Kitty Cat Boot Animations
This is my first break into boot/shutdown animations. I put these together for my wife, an adamant cat lover. We stumbled upon Simon’s Cat videos on youtube and it just made her think of her fluffy cat. That’s all it took, so I put these together as a surprise to bring more cat joy to her phone! The look I went for was to have the cat clean itself until the phone is shut down, where it finally stops to look at the screen. There is a separate flash-able for EC05 and EG22 because Gingerbread uses sanim.zip instead of bootanimation.zip. You will require a kernel with boot animation support. While the boot animations should appear just fine, I have not actually tested the shutdown animations yet and am simply assuming how it will appear. Enjoy!

About Flashing Shutdown Animations:
Shutdown animation exists as a sequence of PNG files in /system/media/video/shutdown so this zip will simply copy the image files there. HOWEVER, since this is not simply replacing one file like the boot animation, if you currently have a shutdown animation this zip you should delete the folder using your root accessible file manager of choice (unsolicited advertisement: Root Explorer does very well with read/write permissions and is totally worth the purchase) or adb the folder out of there. If you flash over an existing PNG sequence it may be prone to weird flashing and stuttering.
DISCLAIMER: ALWAYS have a backup of your system BEFORE you flash. I am not responsible for anything bad happening to your phone should you choose to flash these files.

Froyo or Gingerbread?
gingerbread. Magically after posting this the boot one worked but the shutdown ones still not.
I'm having the same problem. I delete the shutdown folder with root explorer before flashing the zip. Still no dice. On srf1.2 if that makes any difference.

That's weird. You can always push the folder to your phone manually. Ill look into it.

I figured it out after trying to push the folder manually. There was no cfg file included so I made one. Also for some reason all the png suffixes we capitalized which didn't seem to work so I changed those and it works now.

Just unzip and replace the video folder in system/media with this.

Extract the "shutdown" folder from the zip file and copy it into your /system/media/video folder.
You should backup and/or delete your current shutdown folder to prevent the folders from merging.
Thats pretty cool but just remember the CRT animation is for putting the phone to sleep on the Nexus S which is what people really wanted for the Captivate. GJ though!
Looks good. I will try this out soon.
@flashman - there is no way this can be put as sleep animation. That animation in 2.3 is pretty deep inside the framework and very hard implement on 2.2 (at least for now).
How exactly would I insert this. I'm using droid explorer and managed to back up my previous Shutdown folder. But when I try to then delete my old one it doesn't delete. It wont let me delete the old shutdown or add this animation to the system folder. Am I doing something wrong?
nvm, got it done through root explorer, great work!

Uhhh, yeah. I know that. I was merely stating that people want the CRT as the sleep animation. I have followed the request thread and know that is pretty much a dead thread.
Not to step on your toes...but here is the crt shutdown I madefor the Phoenix rom. This was my prototype without the Phoenix logo. This can be flashed with cwm, however you will want to go into the system/media/shutdown folder and delete the previous files. If you don't you will get the remainder of your previous shutdown when this is finished.

...and just let me know if this is thread hijacking and I will remove link if op desires.

Found this on Android Police. It's the boot animation for the Nexus Prime. I haven't tested it yet, but it should work with these steps:
1) First you have to be rooted and have a file explorer like root explorer
2) Find the boot animation you like, download it and place it on your sdcard
3) Using root explorer, or what ever you use, move the bootanimation.zip to system/media and reboot
Enjoy!
Edit: OP updated with the correct resolution. The previous one worked but this looks a lot more clear.
NOTE: Use the bootanimation.zip for EC05. Use the sanim.zip for any Gingerbread Build, such as EH17. If you are on EH17, make sure you have a kernel that supports boot animations, such as EH17plus.

I've also tried extracting the folder and putting it in system/media/video next to the shutdown folder. Still no luck.

Hi Guys/Gals,
ABOUT:
Ok like many people out there, I am an Assassin's Creed nut so I decided to make a boot animation for my android.
I did this using the stock ICS boot animation as a backdrop with a blood red hue. and then blurred it out to make it look slightly out of focus. I then created an Assassin's Creed Logo in 3D and then gave it a dirty crystal look so the blood red backdrop shows through a little. I made it only spin once because I didn't want a tacky unfinished look (animation stopping halfway through etc.). and on top of that long animations only slow down the boot time of a fast device. I added a delay of a second on the end to just show the logo on a black background while the system loads.

Here is a link to video of the boot animation running on a HTC Vivid/Velocity/Raider
DOWNLOAD: Click Here
INSTALL INSTUCTIONS:
It is built for the HTC Vivid/Raider/Velocity at a res of 540x960 however I am led to believe it will work on any device.
- Download the Boot Animation
- Rename the Boot Animation to bootanimation.zip or Telstra_bootanimation.zip (if you are running the Stock Telstra Rom on a rooted phone).
- Use ADB or a GUI app like Droid Explorer to copy the file over the existing bootanimation.zip and then reboot the device.
- Enjoy.
FINAL WORDS:
Boot animations take time to create (when your not just splitting up frames of a video etc). So if you like it, please give Thanks.
Depending on the feedback I receive, I might do a few more animations as well.
Cheers
Camo

A couple of questions...
How are you trying to replace it? (what are you using to actually replace the file?)
Have you got /system mounted? Some people have to load into recovery and mount /system and while still in recovery they flash the files from there.
Maybe your phone is not rooted?

Should be under /system/customize/resources/ if your running a Telstra ROM they call the bootanimation something different, if so, look under files starting with T.

Full credit for the boot animation itself goes to JaeKar99 over at Rootzwiki. I just changed and cropped the image sizes to 480x800.
NOTE: This was originally landscaped, but I'm not a big fan of landscape boot animations on my phone so I upped the image size so that the height was 800 then cropped it down to only 480 width. This results in only capturing the middle of the actual boot animation, but I think it turned out pretty darn good.
I can easily up the resolution or change to landscape if anyone is interested... just post the resolution and portrait/landscape and I will be happy to oblige.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Step 1: Download a boot animation using a link below
- Step 2: Copy the boot animation to your sdcard
- Step 3: Use a file explorer (I recommend ES File Explorer) to navigate to your current bootanimation.zip
* If you are using an AOSP ROM this should be /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
* If you are using a Sense ROM this should be /system/customize/resource/VZW_bootanimation.zip
- Step 4: Make a backup of your existing boot animation file by copying it to your sdcard
- Step 5: Delete the boot animation file from the system folder
- Step 6: Copy the custom boot animation file and paste it to where the original boot animation file was located
- Step 7: Rename the file exactly like the original.
- Step 8: Reboot the phone

That's so weird...I cant change permissions...at least ES file explorer keeps saying that. By just swithing the bootanimation.zip...it still boots with the old one.

weird indeed. are you having this issue with modifying other system files?
try using a different browser. im using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree
a little inconvenice with this browser, which could be happening on other browsers too, is:-
after you pasted and overwrote bootanimation.zip with the new one the permission will still appears as rw-r-r.
Back up one level and return to /system/media you'll find the zip now having rw-rw-r
OR
Check /data/local directory for any other bootanimation.zip
delete if any
Love the "welcomeCM" bootanimation so minimal and just as I like it.

Thanks a bunch! Everything works now! Looking great! Keep up the good work! I might even do some myself since I'm kinda involved into graphics and stuff. Gotta figure out how to make it an actual boot animation rather than a bunch of images lol
But bootanimation IS a bunch of images, Literately
A good tutorial is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852621
