I'm saving up for a new phone, and I'm not sure if i should wait for wp7s. I really want the nexus as I love my g1, but I also want to try wp7s as I also really love my zune. will it be possible to port win phone 7 series to the nexus one? afaik, there are no winmo 6/.1/.5 roms for any android phones.
It might it might not. Windows phone 7 is having strict phone specs which is why only the HTC HD2 is rumored to get the update.
Compare the specs of the Phone 7 to the nexus and if too many things are out of line, it might be a no, it'd require too much time for the devs.
now why on earth would you wanna put a windows on nexus?
Would probably be possible with a bit of hacking here and there. If I remember correctly the requirements are something along the lines of 3.5" screen, 1GHz snapdragon, 256MB RAM and 3 hardware buttons.
Besides the larger screen and hardware buttons the HD2 is basically identical to the Nexus One.
is there a reason (like licensing) that winmo 6.5 was never ported to an android device then? b/c if it is licensing, I doubt we'll be seeing wp7s on the nexus one

It is because we all got Android to get away from WM, so there is no real desire to do it by anyone with the know how.
Also, the HD2 isn't getting WM7.
Ive been wondering the same thing and if we can get htc sense thats on the hd2

Do a google search... it has been all over the news since MWC and the announcement of hardware requirements that are not compatible with the HD2. Also, HTC confimed as much sometime this week, I think today, maybe yesterday.
Bonus, here is the link to google news results:

so since wp7s won't be on the hd2, I assume a N1 port will be a similar affair to what eclair on the g1 was a few months back: no camera, or other hardware features. I'll probably end up getting a N1 and waiting to see how wp7s turns out/matures.

Yeah, and WP7 won't be out until this fall anyways.
And of course you could always just get the phone you want now, and trade it and some cash for a future phone? Personally, I'm waiting till Nokia's Morph thing becomes tangible before I really sink money into a new phone.

wasn't planning on upgrading until about august though, so who knows what will happen by then. for all I know, the nexus two will be out.

Well in that case, don't even start looking until July, otherwise you will just spend the next 5-6 months fretting over nothing... although, if I were looking at an August upgrade, I would hold out until October or November since cycle wise, that is when HTC is done releasing their new round of phones.

exactly, my hope is that the nexus will drop in price by then. we'll see. I never buy anything without doing months of research on it.
I've only heard bad things about the current and older winmo phones but I'm curious about word processing I bet its got great Microsoft word programs if nothing else. Is it impossible to take winmo word processing apps and rewire them for android? The best option we have that I'm aware of is documents to go which is OK but it seems like winmo would have full Microsoft office for their cell phones. I'm sure im probably dreaming, I searched but Nov '09 was the latest info that I found...
Ive been considering getting an android phone for quite a while so im thinking of the g1 becuase it is cheap and it has a keyboard, what are your guys thoughts, i have a fuze right now.
Don't buy a g1. I've had this phone since november 2008 and I can't wait to get rid of it. You should spend the money and get a better android phone, such as the droid, nexus, or wait for the htc desire. You will definitely have a better android experience with one of these phones. Its just to much hacking you have to do to make a G1 good.

Yeah I would stay away from the Cliq. There are roms for it, but there isn't as much development for it as there is for the G1. You'll find it to be quite boring and it's stuck on 1.5. If it's a choice between the two, get the G1.
Lol... Its pretty funny how everyone is saying the G1 is bad and don't buy it. Give it a month, there will be something then the N1 and everyone's going to say, "Don't buy the N1 its such garbage." G1 is a good phone. It won't take you to the moon, but it's not bad. =] I personally have the myTouch. I honestly wish I would have got G1 for keyboard, though. That's another reason I hate the N1... Yea, it's sexy... but touch screen keyboards have proved to be nothing but trouble for me. Besides misclicking (which you get better at) they usually lag. Sometimes slightly - sometimes horribly. They're NEVER as fast as a physical keyboard, though. They also prove to be trouble for games or things that use a keyboard. Most have full touch screen support, but I personally like to use a keyboard to play a game if it's an option. That's just my opinion.
I bought one off eBay for under $200 and I love it. I don't see how any other phone is better than it right now. It was a five row keyboard, trackball, and with all the custom roms available, it fits every niche that I want.

Beat THAT!
HTC DREAM (people... please call it what it actually IS and not what it has been DE-branded to...) is a very flexible device. Perfectly capable of running the latest builds of android.
The problem that some people are having is that the manufacturer (HTC) has decided to stop supporting it. This is no different than what will happen with the GN1 or other android phones made by HTC.
And the main thing to keep in mind is that this is a PHONE, not a supercomputer. Does it REALLY NEED to be the latest super-duper over powered crazy thing? NO. It really doesn't.
DREAM is very well known, and hacked up the wahzoo. There is virtually nothing that you can't make it do. Right down to being jtag-able.
Fact is simple; if you want maximum flexibility in your phone (more important than peak performance), DREAM is the ticket.
Cool guys, thx for the advice i defintley think i am going to purchase 1 off ebay, but im thinking if i should get the brown/black or the white, i saw the white can get a few nicks on in but it looks nice, what do u guys have?

I would say overall that I am very happy with this phone.
Especially with the hacks and mods that I've done to it.
Its fast, stable and looks great.
I am more than happy with this phone, (Especially since I traded a Sidekick LX for it) I haven't been this happy with a phone in a while.
I used to have the HTC Excalibur and coming from Windows Mobile to Android is phenomenal, everything is so simple once you learn and get the hang of it.
So if you have the cash and you are curious just buy it and learn the basics!
Well worth it!
What attracted to me about this phone is that it is able to use the keyboard( hard keyboard is obviously easier to use) to type and gaming. Moreover, the phone is able to be modded and a variety of ROMs that might suit your style to choose from.
I would actually want to buy a second HTC Dream if I could. Seriously, if you really want to utilise your PDA phone properly, the Dream can do it all for you. However, if you really want high end gaming and more sensitive touch screen & proximity sensors to show off, then it's better to get the latest phone. I find that as it is, I am utilising only 50% of what the Dream is capable of. So I have been using it since last year and will continue on until I cannot do certain things that are important for work. Just my 2cents.
Coming from all different kinds of OS's, Sony, WM for many years, and finally the awesome Android OS.
Its hard to compete against it. I like the idea of a quality physical keyboard and screen. There is so much development and quality Rom releases here for our phone.
Devs know this and that is why they stay and keep doing what they do so well for all of us. Themers as well deserve much respect for their hard work and commitment.
Bottom Line: Buy a G1, you'll be hard pressed to find a better android phone at this time.
Hi, i found a guy selling his G1 on the web, her in Portugal. I own an HTC Diamond, as you know i can´t, unless with haret, have android on my phone. I've tried it and fell in love with Android. Is it worth it to buy the phone? The guy ask for about €60. I know the specs are somewhat similar to the Diamond, but it runs native Android. For +/- the same price i can buy, new, some ZTE or Huawei phone, but nothing that compares to the "feelling" of holding an HTC. What do you guys think, is it a good deal? Or for this price is a way too outdated smartphone??
Thanks in advance for your replies.

HTC Dream (no doubt great phone itself) but as u said, it's way too outdated, u rather go for Hero (atleast supports Adobe Flash), Using HTC G1 since it's release, If u just wanna use Android as just basic & not function freak, just go for it (it'll make u buy next gen Android)
But if you wanna enjoy Android at it's best, go for Hero (cause of it's SENSE UI & support for Eclair Officially) OR some Moto Droids ...............
If you wanna spend money & wanna use it all for years, I suggest go for some updated device (i.e. nexus 1/S, Droid, Galaxy etc)
but if u wanna go for some old great devices, u surely wanna go for HTC Hero OR G1 .............
I bought a G1 in Nov. 2010,I am loving it so much.
But honestly, the ram of G1 is too small.many games can't be run on G1.
If you have enough money, you'd better buy a better android phone such as desire,defy...
I recently gave a friend my g1 and got a vibrant but I would buy another g1 for testing things out such as flashing roms.
I sent this from my Vibrant!
If you want a working, stable and reliable phone then you can't go wrong with the G1.
But if you are planning on playing 3D games or expecting significantspeed then the G1 will not suffice.
I love my HTC dream don't get me wrong, I'd also recommend a great Donut Rom or the one in my signature.

I guys, thanks for your replies. After all the G1 was an china clone of the G1, it didn't had the sliding screen and, fatal to me, no wifi. I ended up buying an HTC Magic for €50.
Hello xda community!
I recently broke the screen on my current android phone, and decided instead of replacing the screen, I would buy a new phone.
I have been researching various windows phones because I love their UI so much.
I found the HD7 on amazon for $240 refurbished, and I love the overall look and feel of the phone.
Before deciding to commit to my purchase, I came here to ask about the phone itself.
Is this phone worth it? Does it have a good dev community?
Or do you reccomend another windows phone?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
i think that its a very good phone.
before you buy it, just check the model number?HSPL????
if you cant install cotulla HSPL and then rom dont bother with it !
iam still waiting for HSPL... for mine, actually iam doing back to the HD2 as (looks) like all problems have been fixed,
cheers
i love the phone. it is my favorite purchase from 2011.
even if i could pick up the Titan or the Radar for the price i got my HD7, i would still go for the HD7.
size is right. Titan is too big, Radar is too small.
removable battery, unlike the Radar.
only three things i wished the HD7 had: physical keyboard, higher resolution screen (not yet, available, though) & newer [read: more power efficient] cpu.
also, i find the HD7 community to be larger then the other WP7 devices' communities.

i have a spare htc hd7, bought it from tmobile and its updated to mango 7.5 and is sim unlocked. im considering selling it because its a spare phone, if you are interested let me know. BTW its a great phone if you want to see if the OS is for you ^_^ tnx
Get the HD7. All of the big WP7 Development just happens to be centering around the HD7 resulting in dozens of custom roms to choose from.. The kick-stand is a very small feature, but it has proven to be extremely useful.. When showing friends a video it's much easier to be able to set the phone down and watch it like a mini-tv of sorts.. If it were up to me, all future phones would have the HD7 design, the only thing I'm willing to change are the internal components, (CPU, Memory, etc)
I suggest getting the HD7.
Hi guys i am also thinking of getting one i know how to check hspl and versions but with which one i will be to use custom roms, from what i've read so far 1. 2. 3. are flashable others 4. and 5. require downgrade if not halfbricked by now... i got really lost with all that info can anyone provide what should be a valid id of hd7 so i don't get a brick ... Thanks

I don't care a whole lot about ringtones..and not sure why it would be hard to change.
Im planning to purchase this phone from Amazon for 200$ used, as soon as I acquire funds for it.
Not sure if I should spend the extra 40$ for a refurbished/new one.
Luckily this phone is T-Mobile native, and I can just pop my sim card in.
Plan on seeing me in this community soon!

I'm looking at getting a cheap HD7 as well.
I'm currently using my HD2 flashed with WP7 mango and have to say I'm quite enjoying the WP7 experience. It just works and I don't feel I have to spend lots of time tweaking like I did when I had Android on the HD2.
But there are a couple of things I'd like to confirm before I get one.
1) My main issue with the HD2 is battery, is the battery life on the HD7 likely to be better than the 10ish hours max I get on my HD? (A few short phone calls, hourly calendar/mail sync, bit of internet/market with wifi OFF but bluetooth on)
2) I will want to flash with a custom ROM so to unlock the sideloading of apps etc, from what I've read to do this easily I need to ensure the bootloader is 4.x or below. Is this correct?
Thanks
Knowing the other phones available, would you buy the HD7 again today if you had the chance ?
i had mine given to me, love the phone, dose everything i want, so answer is yes
cheers and have a gr8 day
thanks button is next to qoute button

i most certainly would, yes. the HD7 isn't showing it's age, yet. with Custom ROMs, the HD7 is more up-to-date then Gen2 (e.g. Titan, Radar). i would however invest in a second battery and battery charger.
Yes I would, I love my HD7 especially with the 32GB internal swap. Only thing is battery.
