So I have the Milestone 1 with Telus and I have 2 years left of contract. I played with Bell's model which was amazing and I need to upgrade!
I see the Droid 3 (Verizon's model) unlocked on Ebay for reasonable prices, but still cannot find the Bell model online.
What's the best option for a model to buy so I can use on Telus with everything enabled (like data and voice etc)?
Please let me know!
Thanks
Both Verizon and Bell should work with Telus, as long as you unlock the GSM modem.
You better get the Bell one (XT860 4G). Verizon tampered with the GSM radio on the D3 to implement operators bans which, based on my very own Droid 2 Global experience, might not be the best experience you want. (I have D2G which I have had on both Rogers and Telus networks here, not without some issues)
So if I get the Bell version do I have to unlock it somewhere? Or can I buy this unlocked online?
both work well i have the d3 on rogers
I picked up the Bell one today. unlocked online and using it with Rogers. so far so good.

Which unlocking service did you use?
Most online ones should work. I went with mobileincanada as they are lightning fast and have proven themselves to me over the years. Code was emailed to me in 15 minutes.

Bell's website indicates their Incredible S supports the 850, 1900 and 2100 3G bands. Is this accurate? HTC has a habit of selling 900/2100 devices in Europe and 850/1900 in N. America, which means no transatlantic 3G. Certainly the case with the Desire HD and Desire Z, which is why I sold my Z.
Its the real deal. Negrielectronics.com is selling the bell phone unlocked. Bell and virgin mobile Canada both offer it without a contract for 499.99!

it's true, most new NAM HSPA devices that bell carries include 2100 bands as well for global roaming

Negri has a hefty markup though - $140. I'll wait until there's confirmation it can be SIM unlocked by the usual online merchants.

I did awhile ago It should be noted that the SSL certificate used by cellunlock.net was not issued by a certificate authority recognized by firefox.
Other than Negri, do you guys where else to get the Bell (s740A) version?
And how would one go about buying the phone from Bell. I tried it but they ask for a plan and/or a bell login name.
I got my IS from Bell and unlocked it. 3G works perfectly on Rogers, so should it on Fido.

For those who bought the IS from Bell, dis you all purchase them in-store, did you buy them online (other than negrielectronics.com)?

I bought mine from The Booth/Wireless Wave. I got the Virgin Mobile one, but it's basically the Bell one... It unlocks fine. I'm using it on Fido.

lol I should have thought of wireless wave. Got ripped off by Bell, paid phone + activation fee + one monthly plan... but the total is about same for a unbranded IS.
Hello everybody this is my first post so if get something wrong forgive me.
1. Is there a way to unlock us carriers on stock jellybean.
2. I know the Droid 4 is capable of global gsm use where i live Puerto Rico there is a local gsm carrier Claro (clear in spanish) not available in the U.S. currently verizon's roaming partner. I would like to know if it is possible to make calls texts and internet.
Claro is mexican owned company which bought verizons stores and antennas thus removing verizon fully from Puerto Rico.

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to this. As far as I know only the main US carriers, ATT, Sprint etc. are blocked as they are competitors of Verizon, and the phone is supposed to work on GSM globally, but who knows whether they considered Puerto Rico to be part of the USA for this purpose.
If you happen to acquire a Droid 4 and try it in Puerto Rico, please post the results on my thread as I'm maintaining a list of confirmed working carriers.
Actually I own a Droid 4 (I'm sure there is no one esle who owns a Droid 4 here in Puerto Rico) I'm willing to test it but i have some questions.
1. I currently don't know if my Droid 4 is global unlocked
( I tried a tmobile sim it recognizes it as tmobile in the apn. But obviously it won't make calls or texts.) Anyway to check if I'm unlocked.
2. I have a verizon sim I do not know if it works or if it was ever activated. Is there a way i could check. (Out of curiosity and a little off topic.)
My Droid 4 is currently rooted on stock jellybean
I will test it soon and will post results in this and your thread.

It isn't unlocked, so far no unlocked Droid 4s are known to exist.
No idea on the Verizon SIM. I have no experience with Verizon as I'm in the UK.

Is there a necessary procedure for the droid 4 for global use or will it work if a put a sim from a compatible carrier.
So long as you are running ICS or JB, not GingerBread, then it will work.
There's mods and custom ROMs you can go for that make it a bit nicer but it isn't necessary.
I understand that the T-Mo version has its many advantages of having its unlocked bootloader, DEV support, SIM unlock, etc...
Price point aside, are there any major advantages/disadvantages between purchasing the T-Mo(N900T) or the Intl version (N9005)?
Every stat comparison seems to be similar, ROM support and all the freq bands are there.
Looking for some definitive answers from the community before spending big bucks on a new unit.

I must be missing something then. According to the description on NegriElectronics it shows one model (N9005) as a 32g LTE model?

On my way to the T-MO store then. :fingers-crossed:
Just so I get this straight,
1. Purchase the N900T.
2. Purchase a $10 or $20 SIM card. (then insert it and use the phone) Required?
3. Bring it home and use the service on CellUnlocker.net
4. Wait for the unlock codes then ENJOY! (Change APN settings)
Optional;
Follow the rooting/recovery guides in the T-Mo thread.

Lol no worries. Just get the T-mobile version and you'll be just fine. I unlocked mine for cellunlocker.net ( well technically i havent unlocked it yet as i am waiting for my note 3 to be delivered but i got the unlock code ready to go).
I walked into a T-Mobile store day after they released the phone. Bought it full retail without purchasing a plan or a sim. Went home and unlocked it using cellunlocker. Now I am using it on AT&T with LTE. Also rooted and a custom rom is installed.

How's your experience with the device? How's your LTE speeds? Is the phone getting very hot?

Thanks for the update on that. You did not have to put a T-Mo SIM first? I thought that was required for the region unlock issue?
How are the actual LTE speeds? Others have mentioned a drop in speeds due to AT&T not giving top priority to the T-Mo IMEI.

+1 on this question. How is the signal strength as well compared to a true AT&T phone in the same area?
Galaxy Note 3 Active
I was in the T-Mo store today looking at the Note 3. Ready and willing to go ahead and pull the trigger, then the rep says they are all out of the white one. They will have more in by the end of the week. Then mentions, they do have some at another store about 5 miles away though. He looks at me looking all disappointed and says, have you heard the rumor about the N3 active? No, I said. He says, if you can wait to get a new phone you might want to read up as it looks like Samsung is going to be going ahead with the release very soon.

Now so confused, I think I have to wait and see what developes.

That's compete crap. I can't believe they would do that to you. I was under the impression they had to if you bought it outright. Perhaps you'll have to get an unlock code elsewhere.

I'm on net10 using att network in the US and contacted negri about a n900t they are selling but in the notes on their website it says for international use only.. I thought the n900t was t-mobile version in the US? I asked them about it and they said it will not work in the US. I am confused?

It's because their stock of N900T's have been blacklisted by US carriers. Meaning they were obtained from the gray market. T-Mobile and AT&T have a database of IMEI's that are blocked from their network.
N900T vs N900A
I was reading the thread and was wondering why folks would prefer to buy the N900T vs N900A (especially when they are planning to use if for AT&T and will be required to unlock immediately)? Is there hardware/software advantages for the N900T over the N900A?
I'll add my 2 cents on this. I had originally purchased the T-Mobile variant (N900T) of the Note 3. I loaded up a custom rom and it was perfect. Shortly after that, I noticed my LTE signal (not HSPA) would be very low (-110dbm) in areas where my AT&T branded phones would sit on -94dbm. I flashed back to stock and noticed the same thing. Overall, LTE reception on band 17 on the N900T was very poor. Its probably because the N900T isn't optimized to use Band 17. Using the device with T-Mobile service, I had no LTE issues.
Now using the N900A for AT&T and get great LTE reception.
A buddy of mine has also noticed the TMO Note3 gets a lower reception when compared to my ATT note3. We are both on ATT as well.

I just purchased an Unlocked Moto X on Ebay. It hasn't arrived yet, but the back of the box was in Spanish and it is shipping from Puerto Rico. I've been trying to determine exactly what I am getting here, but I'm having trouble. Hopefully you guys can help me answer these questions.
- From reading other threads it sounds like I'm getting a XT1058. Will this be hardware identical to the AT&T XT1058?
- If so, I'm guessing HSPA+ on AWS with T-Mobile will not work. is that correct?
- Have these models received the recent update that improves the camera?
- If not enabled, is there a way to enable AWS? Would flashing T-Mobile firmware work?
I have that model. Its from the GSM carrier "Claro". Yes it has the recent camera update. I have it unlocked and im currently using it on att with LTE.

I had one
Same hardware as att and rogers.
Wont work on aws hspa.
As far as I know still haven't gotten update unless it happened this week. (This is part of why I sold mine to get a T-Mobile one )
You could unlock boot loader and flash the rogers or att image to fix that though
I am pretty sure you can't flash aws on it. I know some Samsung phones its possible but for Motorola the hardware is probably slightly different

Hey all, looking to purchase a Moto X and I'm trying to figure out what variant would work on Bell Mobility in Canada as it's not entirely clear. If someone could help me out that'd be great! Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Compare the bands/frequencies that Bell Mobility uses to the bands/frequencies supported by the different Moto X variants?
You'd want the XT1058 model (aka the AT&T Moto X). Only that model has LTE band 7 (2600MHz), which is widely used in Europe and Asia- it's also the model sold by Rogers Canada.
Keep in mind that if you're planning to root it you should get the Developer Edition. (But then you won't get LTE support outside America).
Bottom line:
AT&T model for international LTE support (XT1058)
Developer Edition for easy rooting (ie. unlockable bootloader) (XT1053)
The easiest to get and best one for Bell is the Rogers/Fido version. It comes sim locked but it is 8 dollars or less to unlock it. They are pretty easy to come across on craigslist these days.
You could also import one from the US if you wanted, if that is the case then I'd get the tmobile version. You would lose access to band 7 LTE though but you'd be able to get a custom colored version and 32gb if you need it.
edit - to respond to what KaiHD said above my post
Run away from the AT&T version, the Rogers version is the same hardware but has an unlockable bootloader and no bloatware. The Rogers version is also very easy to sim unlock.
Also, I see you're in BC, if its the lower mainland you can pickup an as new Moto X for $300.00 Cdn
Just for those wondering - Bell Mobility is a Canadian cell provider with HSPA and LTE.
Unfortunately people in my area are asking unreasonable prices for Rogers/Fido Moto Xs (500-600) and I have the opportunity to grab an AT&T variant for under 300. Thanks to both of your for the info, helped a lot.
