[Q] Cyanogen Mod Question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey.im kinda new to android...i was using 2.3.3 gingerbr .
i was tryin to root my phone and get the cyanogen mod on it. through this link
i have a galaxy s i9000.after i flashed the zImage kernal. my phone is stuck on the start screen that shows the galaxy S logo.it stays that way . i can go to download and recovery mode though. but i really don't know what to do .. im a noob.your help will be appreciated
i can't post the link here for some reason.. just google "cyanogen mod galaxy s i9000" and youll see a link saying cyanogen wiki something.. and then you will see steps to get cyanogen.. please help

I find it easier flashing CM7 coming from froyo. What you need to do is flash JPU then flash speedmod kernel k13c (for the recovery) then go into recovery, then mounts and storage, format system, data, cache and datadata. Also wipe dalvik cache and wipe cache partition, then flash CM7. Holla if you need more help

Ok dude, download XXI9000JPU, latest nightly of CM7 and Speedmod kernel k13c before you do anything. Once you have all them (if your on a custom rom now, do a nandroid backup) if not don't worry coz you'll lose settings and apps anyways. Power off your device and put it into download mode (Vol down + home + power) then open Odin, and connect your device (a yellow box in Odin will confirm your phone has been recognized) extract JPU (if you download it from samfirmware.com the password will be samfirmware.com, exactly how its written) then in Odin in the left of the screen, check repartition, and in the .pit section, browse the JPU folder for the .pit file, in the PDA section browse the JPU file for the file with PDA in the name, the same with phone except it will be called "Modem" in the JPU file, CSC will be called CSC in the JPU file, once all files are in the correct place, and repartition is ticked, click start to begin flashing froyo. Once done, and the setup process has completed, make sure CM7 is on your internal SD card, power off your phone and put into download mode again, now with the speedmod kernel, make sure your download the Odin version from touristinparadise.com (it will be a .tar file) connect your phone to Odin again, untick repartition, and in the PDA slot, browse for the speedmod kernel, and press start, let your device boot fully, then power off and enter recovery mode (Vol up + home + power) release all buttons as soon as the Samsung logo appears. In recovery navigate to mounts and storage, format system, data, cache and datadata. Then go back and go to advanced speedmod and wipe dalvik cache, then go back and wipe cache partition. Then install zip from SD card, then choose zip, then browse for CM7 and install. Once done, go back and reboot device now your all set

Odin is not detecting my phone when in download mode :S ... only detects when the galaxy s screen is showing.. and i cant get into the software guys .. its either the recovery or download mode only .. .

This is a drivers issue, have you made sure kies is shut 1st? If so uninstall drivers and kies then reinstall, our just install the right drivers for your computer

[Q] Ultibread! V1.3 - How to ?????

Hi
i read carefully the procedure for flashing the Ultibread! V1.3 based on 2.3.x but as a noob on flashing i did not fully understand. can anybody help me at the remarks as per the original description
I RECCOMEND INSTALLING FROM GINGER XWJV1:
do i have to flash that before updating via odin - this is a 2.2 ed.?
Get into download mode
flash a FROYO yes FROYO Speedmod kernel (make sure auto reboot is OFF)
where to get that and which version - pleas a link for dummies like me
Then pull battery and enter recovery mode
when to pull battery and how to enter recover< mode without battery ???
Then in CWK choose Ultibread-V1.3 and apply.
means most likely start in recovery mode and install from sd ???
Reboot
thanks a lot for helping a noob
br
norbert
I'll break it down for you .
1.Download the XWJV1 (it's the official 2.3.2) Firmware from samfirmware.com. Also download Ultibread and put it on your (internal) sd card
2.Flash it using Odin
3.Get into download mode by turning your phone off and then holding the volume up button + home button + power button
4.Download the SpeedMod K13C kernel from here
5.Flash the kernel using Odin (select the tar package under pda, make sure you don't repartition and turn auto reboot off)
6.After flashing remove your battery for 5 seconds and then put it back in. Turn your phone of while holding volume down + home + power. It will now go into recovery mode
7.Now select install update from zip. Select the Ultibread zip and your good to go!
Good luck!
Thanks for the breakdown - now i understand it too and i am almost done
as currently the speedmod kernel is moreless noch acassible for download - if it is just for rooting, may i also use cf-root instead?

you use speedmod to flash rom via cwm
I installed it over my doc rom.. And it worked correctly....
Some applications errored out... but after uninstalling them and reinstalling them everything is working correctly =) (at least it seems that way so far)
You should propably do a wipe and then install so you dont have problems with your apps =P
So yeah... you can probably skip all those nonsense instructions xD
Just do regular procedure because some users have experienced problems like:force closes, fuzzy screen and even soft bricking the device

i9000 help from cm9

CM9 nice but not ready .... ok, because I'm a noob I have a big problem. I have my new SGS (i9000 3.2.3firmware) with cf-root 2.6 from here (*http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108*). Yesterday put CM9 on it from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593) .. and this morning I do not like it..*so I open cwm and tap to restore from backup ... now my galaxy wont open again... what can i do now??
and odin can see my phone in download mode....
sorry for my bad english, i can speek only greek and german...
did you have a backup to begin with?
if odin can see your phone in download then just flash another rom
It doesn't work because the stock partitions are different to CM9. Flash a stock version of whatever you had before in odin with repartition, then a kernel. Then you should be able to restore your backup from CWM
As posted above. The partitions between CM & stock are different. I did exactly what you did. With the same result.
You can get a stock rom from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
Once you have a stock rom you need to use Odin to install it. You will need to have all three files & the pit file. (phone, modem, csc, pit - 512).
Make sure Kies is not running & open Odin. Click re-Partition. Click PIT & select your pit file, Click PDA & select file with PDA in name, click phone select file with phone in name, click CSS & select file with CSC in name.
Once you are ready with this start phone in download mode. Once in download mode attach phone to usb cable wait for top left corner to go green & click start.
This can take some time but once complete phone should restart. At this point my phone got stuck (either boot loop or black screen I can't remember)
If this happens don't panic just remove phone from USB & restart odin. Now make sure re-partition is unchecked & select the three previous files again, don't select pit file. Again put phone in download mode (you may need to pull battery first) wait for Odin to be ready & click start. This time when the phone reboots it should start although this can take a little longer than usual.
Once started I always like to reboot a couple times & clear cache & do factory reset in recovery.

Samsung Galaxy S GL-I9000 is not booting up after flashing

Hi,
First of all I'm pretty new to this forum and really don't know this is correct thread to post this or not. This forum is kinda huge
Here is my problem,
I have Samsung Galaxy S GL-I9000. After 6-7 months of use suddenly it got very slow and throwing error on installed application could not able to start (Force Close) randomly.
So I decided to do factory reset. I tried to format internal 16GB SD card, it was showing done but i could see the 4.3 GB occupied there. I factory reset option from the menu (forgot where) and it did not solve the problem.
I also tried to clear the Cache and Partition by 3-button combinations, again no use and decided to flash the ROM with available ROM.
I looked into XDA and found one and flashed it, but after flashing it is showing the samsung glowing logo and thats all, nothing is coming up.
I have Odin, Heimdall and bought the jig as well.
Please help me to make my phone in working condition. Any good ROM is fine for me don't need any fancy stuff right now.
Thanks in advance
Sudipta
you in something that calls BOOTLOOP you can fix it with the ODIN
tray to flush the STOCK ROM with the ODIN again
I tried to flash several times, and last 2 times I flashed with Phone EFS clear, Phone Boot Loader Update and Re-partition option selected.
Don't have any idea what else could be tried there. Can you please be specific?
Try clearing data, cache and dalvik and then flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me how to clear delvik?
I think data and cache can be cleared by going into reset screen by pressing 3-button combination.
Thanks in advance
Download stock rom for your phone from sammobile.
Then download odin for the phone again with pit file. It should have 512 pit file.
Now copy eveything on your internal sd card into a file on your pc.
Once done open odin, select pit512, and the three files of your stock rom ( phone, pda, csc) and check repartition. Make sure kies is not running. Now put phone into download mode and connect to usb, once phone connected to odin click start.
If still in bootloop try a second flash with same rom. This time don't check repartition and don't select the pit file. Select only phone, pda & csc.
If the stock rom you download only has one file put pit512 in pit and then file into pda although i think it is preferable to have the three file stock rom if possible.
Alternatively search for darkyrom resurrection in google and follow tutorial and downloads from the resurrection thread. That way the download has everything you need and darkyrom is a great custom stock rom

Jw5 rom from samfirmware is the latest.extract on your PC.password is samfirmware.com
Odin is very sensitive.so follow these steps
1. close kies
2.open odin
3.set files in Odin
4.turn phone off.remove battery, put it back in,use 3 button combo to get into download mode and connect phone to your PC.
5.wait for the Odin to recognize your phone(3-5 sec) and flash
6.don't remove phone until it is fully rebooted.this can up to 10 min.
And Done
Remember always to flash with full battery(100%)

Well sammobile can be a pain. Try googleing stock Roms for I9000 and find different downloads. Find a rom with sbl at the end of it. And put the files in there spots in Odin. You can put the pit and repartition if you want but its not a must. Good luck

Help - Bootloop from format sdcard, odin didn't fix

Here is my situation:
Flying to Europe long-haul tomorrow and I have no phone. I was about to swap phones with someone, so I cleared the data (factory reset) and formatted the sdcard , I didn't think this would delete my whole ROM and recovery image, just some nude pictures I needed to remove.
I was stuck on the boot logo (samsung .Galaxy S.. GT-I9000), which would flicker every now and again as it restarted.
I used to have Slim ICS 4.2 and Clockwork 5.x (I think), but I just want to have a working phone for my travels.
Now I have the yellow triangle working. With ODIN I have even managed to get a simple recovery, but it still boot loops, albeit with an fancier animation and optus logo.
Odin settings:
PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit and
PDA: JW6_JV6_JW1.tar
re-partition: yes
auto-reboot: yes
f. reset time: yes
odin3 v1.85
So is there an odin compatible ROM around that will actually work for a blank sdcard? It's an Australian GT-I9000 from optus.
I think I'm close to getting this thing working, but having a flight tomorrow I don't have the time to search for roms.
I now have a working phone after flashing JVT from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583026
Can't wait to get this samsung junk off it and get back to Slim ICS.
Odin on a Semaphore kernel from the dev thread onto your phone (.tar file). Preferably use version 1.2.6 from the ICS thread. Boot into recovery mode and use the format SD card option there. Stick with 2 GB and 0 MB allocated to swap. After that finishes mount the SD card from CWM and copy a ROM onto the phone, then flash it. CM9 or 10 should be fine. Alternatively you can Odin a stock ROM back onto the phone.

Hey
You need to un-check the repartion in odin3...dat creats bootloops..
That would have been the issue...
Cheers
If my post helped, dont forget to hit the thanks button..
