1.Enter the "hidden menu" (3845#*970#) -> GPS Test -> System settings -> MOLR Protocol and be sure "User plane" is checked.
2.Now go to SULP Settings (be sure the SLP Auto Provision is enebled)
3.Click SLP Server Setting, select server "OPEN(Google)", click the menu button on touch pad and then click "Edit"
4.Modify the "slp address" to: supl.nokia.com (do not activate TLS setting and leav certification file blank)
5.Click on the menu button from touch pad and "SAVE"
6.Open Google Maps, Igo or whatever do you use for gps, wait until it locates you! (may be slow for first time but after that it will locate you in matter of seconds)
I hope this one works for you guys as it works for me, I really get location very fast, like on stock ROM or nova 1.7.31!
Well, but according to my knowlege this has influence on A-GPS only. Nothing common with sat GPS.

Correct.
Either way, I already changed the supl to Nokia server in the upcoming Nova.
I tested it today with cold lock (sat GPS) and worked fine (app: google maps and GPS timer - 4 sats) and with A-GPS (where Nokia servers might indeed be faster than Google) also worked fine.
can i use this setting here in philippines?
i don't use A-gps
i use directly from sattelite for offline navigation
With Nokia server i got 6 sattelites locked, with Sony Ericsson server i've got about 12,14... (supl.sonyericsson.com)
The real big improvement would be if it was possible to improve the gps tracking once fixed... or without a-gps info.

Lol
That doesn't make the point mgregor, he means the SE server not a SE device.
Also I can confirm this, I've got 9-11 server with SE, 4-5 with Nokia.

After editing OPEN(Google) with supl.nokia.com i`ve returned to stock supl.google.com and now everything runs very acurate and fast...
But I have noticed that if I have data disabled, it locates me much more slower.

Original post.
I'm from South East Asia. I had moderately good GPS with FR 12.
It locks me in about 7 seconds with GPS & Wireless (agps) on.
However, after FR15, i totally can't get a lock on my locations. This is a bit frustrating, as i might be traveling soon.
In Paul's change logs, he mentioned:
3 May Fr15
* Reverted to MCK kernel - patched to .28 stable and with a ton of performance improvements
* Added gps.conf to /system/etc
* Patched settings and removed update client (gains 20MB RAM)
I can only assume that gps.conf is based on the Fastereuro fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066933&highlight=gps+mod
Is there anyway to reverse this? Not being able to use GPS is a challenge.
Does any of you Singaporean guys have GPS issues?
BTW, i've also check my APN - they are exactly the same as when i used FR12. So, it can't be the APN - as the wireless has already been set to supl.
I also tried to go in to the hiddenmenu to tinker with the GPS, but nothing has worked so far.
Hi randy. Are you from singapore? If so, i‘ll send you my gps.conf once I'm home

Why not you extract the gps configuration file in system/etc/gps.conf in FR12 and overwrite it to your current rom? I believe it should work...

I'm also from singapore and currently using Blazingdragon 1.6a rom based on FR15.. My 1st gps fix takes awhile to get a lock but subsequently it will get a lock very fast...
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Hi, the first fix is always slow...
Some method you can try:
Download Gps status and tools from market(free) and download the latest gps file...
Or, Download GPS fix(market, free) The fixing it rather fast...
Or, before you want to use it, switch on GPS 1 day before and let it receive satellite data.
Or, Stay at the same spot, put your phone flat on ground. Wait. Bring some crackers and eat.
Haha, Last method work for me, despite the high buildings in singapore...
Thanks, will check out the apps.
I was under the impression that it's a rom problem.
When i had the Samsung Captivate, gps lock takes 5-7 seconds...
when i first got the optimus, it locks about 7-10 seconds.
Now, it's taking forever.
i'm just wondering if something in the rom is incompatible with our South East Asia location.
Nevertheless, i will check out the apps. (already tested with gps status previously, but didn't work).
Problem is from my view not getting a lock, its being able to keep the connection.. It breaks up when my data connection disappears, and it takes ages to get it back.. I am using Endomondo for tracking my sport, but i cant use it with this phone..

Dear all, I would like you to note that this method worked for me!
I believe, it has something to do with SLP Auto Provision not activating well.
After setting a supl to nokia using this method i got a 16second lock.
I was staring at my device in disbelief...
Immediately, i switched off my gps and retested this new setting with the supl.google.com setting
port 7275
cert NULL
Yes to TSL settings
SLP Auto Provision - On.
I got a lock on in 7 seconds.
So, basically - nokia or google settings will work - it's just that the SLP Auto Provision needs to be on.
(I also deleted gps.config from /system/etc prior to the testing) - this might also affected the result
Tests were done with GPS Status. (APP)
Please retest with your device. This might even be worth a sticky.

When i was using the Samsung Captivate, i changed supl to supl.google.com
(there is also a port change, if i recall correctly).
But i wasn't running stock then. I was running Andromeda 2.0
My SLP auto provision was off by default too. Switched it on when entering nokia server settings, just gone back to the google server and the gps is working just fine.
So its got to be related to SLP auto provision being off by default then.

Yup. You mentioned earlier you got locks, but were they slow?
The posted method locks on about 10 seconds for me.
TQ guys. I was having GPS problem since FR15. I edited the GPS (under hidden menu) to use Nokia SUPL and gps.config to access asia server, and it did the trick and lock my position in about 10-15 secs. Now i am on FR17 and i think the GPS.Config is all messed up, it's meant for Euro.
Anyway, i revert back to use Google SUPL as mention in this thread with all the settings, and i DELETED the config.gps, restart and i got it fix in 5-8sec!!! I didn't use GPS status to download anything. Btw, i am in Asia, Brunei.

Just investigating which one are you using for your Android phone.
I have tested Sygic which is nice but FC is high and Motonav which has good maps but UI is really bad...
So if you could help me to decide and tell me what is available for our andoid hd2 would be nice.
tnx
I use the Google Navigation, works quite good.
Only downside is that it doesn't show the speed.
I've also used Sygic Aura, but I didn't like it.

If you plan your route at home, it will cache the maps needed,
so this way it works offline.
But I don't know for sure, and if you change your route, you will need a data connection.
While I was googling this, I found mapdroyd.com
seems to be Google Maps, the offline version (haven't tried myself)
I've tried most of them, but found iGo MyWay to be the best by far.

Ah, I couldn't find it on the Market, and I was reading and thought it might be affiliated with HTC Sense or something.
Google maps will come with an offline version soon. http://www.androidworld.nl/84790/google-maps-navigatie-binnenkort-met-offline-kaarten/ (dutch link) This will save a lot in data traffic. I hope they add speed and speedcams to it as well.
The most usefull part of google maps for me is the very acurate traffic information, by far the best I've seen.
i use Aura sygic, it's the best GPS i've try on Android 2.3.3, can use it offline, just download maps before.
I have only used google navigator. I was most impressed by its ability to track my location and announce voice prompts when the screen is off, which saved a lot of the battery and the necessity to have a dash/windshield mount.
i use Copilot live. but i missed my iGo and tomtom on winmo

I am unable to get the 'my location' status section of the weather widget to actually name my location e.g. Wembley / Westminster / Boston ... Reflecting wherever I am.
I am sure that previous weather apps were able to do this. It would automatically update according to one's location. In settings, all the location options have been selected inc. GPS. The only way I can get a place name to display right now, is if I manually select a city. :-\
I am sûre that i have overlooked something very simple to allow this function to work. Any ideas would be great. Thank you

EDIT - After de-selecting and selecting location services, went for a reboot of system. Then, prompt box came up on screen, asking whether I agreed or disagreed for Google to collect anonymous location information. I selected Agree and now location is displayed! Solved

Basically, Lg screwed big with the gps.conf file in /system folder.
It has so many setting, servers, and options in it, that the phone takes forever to follow the instructions and get a fix.
So i've read a lot of threads in xda and other sources i can't remender now.

With this gps.conf i'm good to fix sats in my country (Portugal) and in the rest of Europe in about 20 secs from cold. If i reconnect after, i get the fix in under 10 secs.
So, you just need to replace pt.pool.ntp.org with another value suitable for your country. You can find it here.
Of course, if you are in other continent, you must change 0.europe.pool.ntp.org for the value that suits you.
There you go. Just remember to hit the thanks button if i helped you.

Hi All--
I'm hoping someone can help!
I just arrived in Jerusalem, and whenever I go to Google Maps for directions, and tell it to start from 'my location', it calculates it starting in Tel Aviv (about an hour away)! It gets a fix on where I am, so that's not the problem.
It doesn't seem to matter where I tell it I want to go, it starts from the same spot in Tel Aviv (a place I don't believe I have been).
I tried wiping my phone, and it doesn't make a difference.
Anyone have a suggestion? SO WEIRD
(btw, if I tell it to start from whatever address I am currently at, rather than 'my location', it works fine!)
