D3 UPDATES SYSTEM,KERNEL, and BASEBAND - Motorola Droid 3

this is what was updated from what i have read.
Baseband changed to N_03.18.29P
Kernel changed to 2.6.35.7-g790a33c [email protected]#1
System Updated to 5.6.890.XT862
here is the BIG news to date:
*** Gtalk has allow video option in it now
1st link
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/55749?start=15&tstart=0
Motorola thread started a new on to see what was changed.
as i im writing this they took down the 2nd link but i was able to get the new versions from it that i posted at the top.

great news, can't wait for google talk with video

Yeah same thats awesome news, with update comes root also lol

I was just told by Verizon there is an update ready now. Not here yet though; just checked.
I asked because of the radio issues Im having. As I read there are others with some sort of problem like stuck in 1x, no 3g, calls not going through and even swapping off a network extender to a tower. The list seems to go on with these type of issues.
They said if no other phone or a signal detector other than the Droid 3 looses service where I do, then they'll give me an option for different device. What a load of CRAP!! Hopefully this baseband will fix it all for good.

I was just on the phone with Verizon last night. They're sending me a new phone as I'm having problems with GPS. They told me they don't have any idea when an update will be released.
As for an update ready, there isn't anything on the Motorola forums and I haven't seen any information about a soak test which Droid-Life is usually quick to post when the email goes out from Motorola to participate. I did see the link above so hopefully its sooner than later.

One more got the OAT, possible to grab the update.zip?
I got an OTA update for my Droid3 today.

Is there a way of recovering deleted data from an sd card? The update.zip might still be accessible if it hasn't been physically overwritten.
Recuva works - who do we get to check for the update.zip?

The post said it was written to a cache partition we dont have access to. You would probably have to do some kind of man in the middle to catch the update.zip before it gets to the phone. We should probably find a good tutorial on how to set that up for anyone else that gets that update.

I second Recuva. I use it to recover deleted files as well so that may work out....

NetworkMiner / Wireshark / port-mirrored switch should take care of that. I've got a setup already in place. Any chance of capturing the signing keys and putting them to use?
EDIT: does any portion of the update require the cellular connection as I cannot snoop that data...

Does this include a radio update, and if so will it override our radio hack that gives us free tethering by tricking the system into thinking all data is from the phone?

(Replace the DOTs with . I can't post links yet ;P)

If you are getting an OTA most likely there is an SBF as well. Please someone who hasnt updated go download the Motorola Software Update program. It should download a file that you can use as a stock sbf to return to.
https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/Motorola_Software_Update.exe

the2dcour: I tried working the rsddownload server for about 3 days prior to going for the OTAs instead.
Issues:
- I was never able to trigger any downloads via Moto's software, no matter how I tried to tweak it.
- Or by using the lookup API directly (https://rsd.motorola.com/cs/servlets/SRPConsumerServlet) discussed here: http://and-developers.com/sbf (NOTE: This works great for overseas phones) -- The main issue being you need to pass in 2 values (flex and firmware, or flex and apiflex) from the phone which will bring up a list of matching SPF URLs. For the North American phones those 2 values are sort of obscure.
I think if you get more eyes on it tho, we could come up with some way of grabbing an SBF, but it will take some brainstorming. Also, I think once you get a URL back to the rsddownload site, you have to hack a username/password to actually download it.
Here's a fairly recent Chinese Blog about some guy grabbing a file from the Moto RSD site via the API. But, there again he's using an overseas phone where the info you need is literally on the "About Phone" screen.

How To Update To Honeycomb 3.2 For Beginners

For those of you who are noobs/beginner, I have found a blog that contains step by step instructions with pictures to show you how to update to Honeycomb 3.2.
http://streakblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-update-to-honeycomb-32.html
All I did with my update was open up the browser and typed the following for the Wifi version and it updated my tablet without any issues. I didn't give it the tag number and it went ahead and updated it without requiring all of those steps. It was done in less than 5 minutes and it's function well.
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/?version=GLUNB1A334430
My version was a different number so I wasn't getting prompted to update but was able to update it without needed to move on to SD card and renaming it.
You can watch the status of the download from the status bar at the top, drag down. Once it's complete, the status will change to state the download is complete.
Click on the line that shows download is complete and it should prompt you that an update has been found, do you want to update now. You should click "Yes" or "Update" (forget which displays) and it should start the installation. Once it is done it will reboot and lead you to the Honeycomb lock button after it is complete done.

That's odd, my streak popup a notice saying an update was available, when I clicked on the notice, it open the browser and load the update page with the download button. I downloaded the package and sat there didn't know what to do because it was not an executable file. I called Dell mobility support and they keep.telling me the update is not live until Oct. 7! I had to search around for instructions on how to update.

Do you have the Wifi version or the 4G version. If you have the 4G then it won't work. However if you have Wifi and go to the above link I gave, it will install. Make sure you are fully charged or it won't do anything. My updated without issue directly from the link.
Thanks for the link.

I have the wifi model. Your link take me to a download page. When I click on the download button it download a file with .pkg extension. What then?
Up on the status bar you should see that it downloaded something. Go up there to see how much was downloaded. If it shows that it has completed, click on it and it should tell you that an update has been downloaded and if you want to install. Click yes or whatever option that equals yes and it should start installing.
Wow, I wished it had happened like that to me. When I downloaded the pkg file, it did not run.
Will the download work with GLUNB1A33830 ? that seems to imply a different ROM

We don't know for the 4G TMo version, you'll have to wait and see if the update comes out for you tomorrow. The update we have is for Wifi version only. I don't recommend that you install it. Just give it two days to see if you get the update.

If you are rooted, you will not get the update nor will it install. This is per the Dell website explaining who will get updates. I went right back to stock and then installed the update. This update is only for the Wifi version. Also the "Unlocked" version will also be getting updates.

Yes it will erase all your apps, but not the data on your internal SD card. So you have to re-install all your apps, but aware that some apps may not be compatible with Honeycomb.

[Q] Bell XT860 stock recovery

I would have posted this question in response to these instructions, however I'm still a noob on these forums, and haven't met my 10 post quota yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255198
My question is will this recovery method work for Bell Canada users, or will it only function for Verizon users?
I've installed AOKP a few months back, and while I enjoy it, I've lost support for some key features; namely HDMI, which is disappointing. When I tried recovering to the stock rom to hold me over until some new features and revisions show up on the mod scene, I found out my system backup was corrupt.
I have found a few downloads to system images, however every one I have found link to files that are now taken down. Can someone upload a current system dump?
I can set you up when I get home later

I'm really eager to find out. Worst case, you could always just flash the bell XT860 radio afterwards and see what happens!
I am way too new at this to try experimenting with untried solutions
I just barely figured out how to root my ph. Still working on how to flash.
Is it the same as installing a ROM?

No, you have to completely reflash your device and will have to re-root it. I think you should give it a go though
You'll need to download RSD Lite and download the XT860 Bell SBF files (they are about 500mb to download). Also make sure you FULLY CHARGE your phone, just in case you run into any issues. I think you can find an SBF how-to doc in the development forums. Please keep us posted.
Are you on Verizon? Because if you and this works, you probably won't be able to use it with them anymore.
Nope, I am on PCMobile without a data plan, use wifi.
I think maybe I'll try a Rom first.

[WIP][*POSSIBLE SOLUTION*] Restoring Missing Apps Post Unlock: Your Help is Needed

As reported by Modaco, it seems that unlocking the bootloader removes some system apps, among them are the Calculator, Flashlight, Ringtone Trimmer and Sound Recorder (and I've seen a report that the Teeter game is gone too).
Now, I haven't got my own One yet, however I do have access to a Canadian variant from work and we've got another one in America running an older build.
It was running 1.27, now it is running 1.28.
I cannot access the data partition, obviously, not even for read (it is not rooted), however using the pm command I managed to discover which packages are located in the preload directory (excluding the carrier specific apps from my variant):
com.android.calculator2
com.htc.flashlight
com.htc.pdfviewer
com.htc.ringtonetrimmer
com.htc.soundrecorder
Initially I thought ODEX files might be needed, but these are located in the data partition and as far as I know there are no ODEX files there (correct me if I'm wrong).
Using Carbon I've backed them up (see attached here), only thing left is to check whether they can be restored and work properly on unlocked Ones. It might not fit every variant, testing required. Perhaps it might even allow using OTA updates.
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet, I suggest trying this beforehand instead of the attached files:
Through ADB, use:
adb shell pm list packages -f | find "preload"
Backup these apps using Carbon.
Unlock bootloader.
Restore using Carbon.
Please let me know if this works.
Thank you so much. Flashlight and calculator is working. The Sound Recorder gives me a force close. But it is a beginning. :cyclops:

If you keep getting a force close then pmease try settings-application manager-sound recorder-clear data.
This should help clear up any force closures.

I cannot access the data partition, obviously, not even for read (it is not rooted), however I did spot some of the missing apps in the system partition. I think that if we pull these files from a locked One and push them after unlocking we might not have to rely on flashing a custom rom to get them back.
Edit: or not... I've seen the Camera and have mistaken it for the Calculator... Idiot...
However, and here's the catch, I'm not sure the files remain unaltered between builds. So, here's the to do list:
Identifying the exact list of missing files post-unlocking - there'd probably be odex files missing as well as APKs, which is why we can't just pull these from a custom rom.
Pulling them from locked Ones (assuming they are in the system partition).
Comparing MD5 changes between different builds.
Testing testing testing.
Update: Stupid... this could be even simpler. These are in the data partition, and ES File Explorer can backup the APKs. I'm grabbing them now. We'll still need to figure out how to get the odex files back.
Update 2: OK, I've got 3/4 of the missing apps, the trimmer could not be backed up (attached them). Will have to continue with it tomorrow.
Maybe this tool can help us:

Sure, I had to keep a backup of the original recovery and flash it through hboot each time before installing an OTA, however they did work.
I'm not planning on flashing a recovery this time around, I plan on just booting it to install Koush's Superuser and keep the stock one. And if it wouldn't work, just to root and go back to the stock recovery. Until I've had enough of stock :silly:

Generally updates are anticipated and usually a stock version will be posted soon after the ota. Actually the fact that you can't receive an ota after unlocking will save a lot of noobs from installing a new locked down bootloader.
OTAs can easily be pulled from your cache. Someone would pull it and upload it.

Hey guys, I just received the notification about the above mentioned update being available for my phone. Who has experience with this update and can tell me, if I should update or not. Thanks in advance and I hope the answer isnt mentioned here already, cause I couldnt find it within the last hour or so...

There is a thread in general regarding the 4.4.4 rollout. While it isn't necessary to update, the phone will keep nagging you to install the update unless you either accept it, or use root to disable update notifications.
What's better? Well it shows 4.4.4 under Android version number instead of 4.4.2
No seriously, the only change I have noticed are : A much brighter flash for taking photos. Maybe the daylight photos have changed too, I honestly have no idea, no real time to test that.
Since upgrading to 4.4.4 I now can connect my phone to my Bravia via Mircast, if that matters to you.
There is a new Dialler app, which is meaningless IMHO, still sucks big time.
And some security related updates have been made, about which I literally have no idea.
No, the phone does NOT run more smoothly than on 4.4.2, it's just same. If you are happy with 4.4.2 then there is no point.
By the way, no, without root you can't pull the OTA zip file from the phone.

AFAIK, you cannot access /cache (even with ADB pull) without being rooted. I could definitely be wrong about this, so you are welcome to try. Once in adb shell, try to 'cd' to /cache and get a directly listing with 'ls'. My guess is that you won't be able to without su privileges, but let me know if that is not the case.
Once you install the OTA, it is permanently erased from /cache, and it is gone forever. I'm not sure why you are interested in pulling it though -- all of the XT1052 OTAs have already been pulled and posted by others. You can find all this in the very link I posted in my first reply to you.
Good Luck!

Oh ok, didnt know, they have all been posted already. Just didnt wanna read up 40 pages or more. Though I have to say I read 20 or so I just wanna pull it for the sake of pulling as well just to see, if it works unrooted and if I am still able to do so, since my android skills got a bit rusty

g870a update to MM

Has anyone with the s5 active got the OTA yet? And if yes do you like it?
I'm going to go ahead an ask the obvious, did you try the same link as the 900A except replacing the 900A with 870? Mine says forbidden, but i also don't have an 870.
So.. https://xdmd.sl.attcompute.com/agents/42925/1488/SS-G870AUCS4CPA2-to-U4DPE3-UP

I was hopeing to do it locally so I can hopefully grab it for a friend who is outside the USA. but I will try now, and post a link if I can
I have a 870 but I'm forbidden too
I am too, but even if you change it to 900,its forbidden, maybe they locked it down.
I'm beginning to believe we're not getting the update at the same time as the S5, if at all. I still haven't heard any news about it, and I know that the 900a update doesn't work on the Active.
Thing is - 403 forbidden can also be caused by agent number/version that att uses.
Maybe someone can find in old urls which agent is used by S5active-g870a downloads?
Url below is an example -

from what I'v seen it may be better to stick wit 5.1.1, I get super batt life and all my apps work. what scares me most is some of the threads Iv seen about the sd card. my top topo gps app is able to use the sd (25gb maps) and they say there are some changes to the way android handles it in mm...
will have too wait

The only change to SD cards is in the naming convention and adoptable storage. Any app in 5.1.1 must seek permissions to use the SD card for accessing folders. Even if you update to 6.0.1 when an app asks you for permissions, you can select the new renamed SD card and by default the system handles any app storage stored on the SD card. In short, there is 0% chance your gps app will stop working. AT most you will have to redownload maps or re-grant permissions to that folder.

I was looking over this again today, I noticed that the original link I posted for you to try had an extremely wrong base band version.. Which is where i was breaking myself on the PA4 to PF4 on the G900. Someone wanna try the second link with an active WITH Samsung browser, and let me know the results?
Original(bad): https://xdmd.sl.attcompute.com/agents/42925/1488/SS-G870AUCS4CPA2-to-U4DPE3-UP
Try this: https://xdmd.sl.attcompute.com/agents/42925/1488/SS-G870AUCS2CPB4-to-U4DPF3-UP
Someone else mentioned trying a different "agent" so then you would replace 42925 with 48698 in the link base on an old update link? It also appears Samsung is at least trying to get the S5 line on a consistent base band number from what i gather in the support articles
900A: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00036623/
870A: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00051365/
Also, the update, if the right links will likely factory reset your phone. and MUST be applied from SDcard.
Anyway, this is my best guess without an 870. Lemme know if anyone has success.

Didn't work for me. Tried changing the agent code too. no luck. I kept getting access is forbidden errors.
I'm also on OJ3... Don't know if that matters or not. If anyone has access to an PB4 update that'd be great. I'm not in the US anymore.

Bummer, sorry. I'm totally guessing at this point, I don't have an 870 to mess with, so just going off best guesses based on other info available.

looks like it's coming soon... but anyone know how folks outside of the US and not on ATT can get these updates??
Would be cool if someone in US could fetch the update file

I got it my S5 active ATT never finished rebooting, can't downgrade back to lolipop hangs at startup screen.
Anyone know where to download G870AUCU4DPC1?
