Is it possible to upgrade phone s/w after rooting? - LG Optimus 2x

Today when I tried upgrading my system software ota and using LGMobile Support Tool, I got the "Invalid software package" and "Software update is not supported for this model" respectively.
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and uninstalled the Car Home app and F-Secure from the stock ROM. Nothing else was touched after that.
Some other versioning details on my phone:
LGE Version: LGP990-V10c
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110622
My question is that after rooting my phone in my case, can I still install official s/w updates from LG?
I also "unrooted" my phone using SuperOneClick but I am still getting the same s/w upgrade error above.
Otherwise, does anyone know why the error above might have occured?

Your phone is rooted so u cant update your device through lg. Flash a new rom or unroot

I forgot to mention that I tried to "Unroot" using SuperOneClick as well but I still get the same upgrading errors after that.

Do you have CWM Recovery installed?
If you do, that's the problem because the LG updater can't reboot the phone properly if it has a custom recovery installed.
You should flash a stock rom using SmartFlash tool and then use the LG updater.

Download stock ROM and use smartflash
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12890619#post12890619
http://android.modaco.com/topic/335494-12-aug-smartflash-stock-baseband-release-103521-20110725/
Make sure you read through there are 2 files, the baseband and the main ROM

Thanks for the advice guys. I will give it a try.
Another question that I have is that is the baseband version and ROM version related? Can I use the most updated stock ROM version available for my region and an older baseband version?
For eg:
ROM version: BIN_LGP990AT-00-V10c-525-05-JUN-28-2011+0
Baseband version: Baseband 1035.21_20110606 instead of using Baseband 1035.21_20110614
Will there be any side effects if I do that?
*Edited: Ok. Doing a google search on this topic reveals a whole lot of understanding. Thanks guys!

[Q]Reset Factory Default Firmware

Hi there.. recently i've updated my firmware to v10e.. When i tried a new kernel, it got bootloop and had to divert to latest cwm backup..
Then i realised, the backup cwm is v10d version. When i tried update through LG Updater, the software detects that currently im up-to-date.
So, is there any way to reset the factory default firmware so that i can update? :-?
Current settings:-
- NeoBlaze 120811
- Stock v10d, rooted

I have a similar question...I think.
I want to revert my phone to the original LG rom, I am on FIDO in Canada...
I looked at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
But wasn't sure which one to pick...
so my question is:
how can I revert my phone to the original state that it came in when I got it from Fido?
I've tried using NVFlash.. but still the "factory default firmware" is the latest.. hurmm..

I think you will have to smartflash an older baseband (pre0725) , then you can use the lg updater.

I also think thats the solution.
By restoring your backup, you mixed two ROM versions. Now you currently use 10d + the baseband from 10e (since CWM backup/restore cant handle basebands) - that's why LG updater doesn't work.
Flash the corresponding BB for 10d, if that doesn't work then returning to 10a and updating from there on might work. (Caution: BB flashing wipes your device, do a nandroid backup before!)

[Q] LG updater says...

Hi,
This weekend I flashed my phone to the latest official GB ROM that came out here in The Netherlands (V20m). Now when I run the updater it syays there is a update for my phone. When I try to update it says:
"software update is not supported for this model"
What could be the reason, anyone a guess?
I think the tool needs some rest, as it worked to hard from flashing all the LG updates
I'm also experiencing this and would like to know if it's normal or not... Because, what if ICS came out next year and I'm unable to update my phone because of this! Haha!!!
Have you rooted your phone? Cause mine is rooted already when I tried this.
Don't know though if this has something to do with the update tool from LG... Because when I updated my phone from Froyo to Gingerbread, my phone was already rooted and the updater seems to work fine. I was able to update my phone from Froyo to Gingerbread without any problem.
No my phone is not rooted right now.

Hello!
I would say it is just the (sorry) crappy LG Updater - it just means there is no newer update.
Will ota work with rooted phone, for minor updates i mean

As long as it can start the LG recovery/flash software it is not a problem. If you flash CWM it does not work anymore as far as I know.

[Q] LGMobile update service PROBLEM! Help Please?

Hi all!
Few days ago i updated my lg p990 via LGMobile update service to 2.3.4 Gingerbread V20m with no problems. I`m from Serbia btw. Then i rooted my phone and installed clockwork recovery to backup my rom. I made a mistake to do that after i performed root so now when i restore my rom the phone is rooted again and i can`t use update utility anymore! It says my model is not suported. I then used SuperOneClick to unroot and r1-stockrecovery-2x-unsigned zip to remove recovery and it did that but still can`t update or restore original stock V20m rom with update utility. I even managed to install V20l ROM and baseband via Smartflash and offcourse still no update posibility and "not supported model" message. Yesterday i downloaded from XDA, Netherland stock V20m but, guess what, still not supported. Can anyone tell me how to or what to do to make my phone update officialy again with LG tool. THNX in advance

[Q] Root-Problems after Firmware Update to 2.3.6

Hey, perhaps somebody can heIp me.
Updated my Galaxy Tab 7 today from Firmware 2.3.6 (other details I don't know) to
Firmware 2.3.6
Kernel-Version 2.6.35.7
Buildnummer GINGERBREAD.BOJU3
over Samsung Kies.
The Tablet was rooted, but after i confirmed the Firmware Update the Root wasn't there anymore.
Tried to re-root the Tablet with SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse & DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su_1_
but both didn't work.
Anyone got any Idea how to re-root or fix this. Got no Backup so resetting is the last option.
DooMLoRDs Tool said that he can't wright the SU File true no Write-Rights.
Superuser 3.3 is still installed and can't be uninstalled true no root rights.
SuperOneClick will not finish the Root and stops mostly on Part 7 of the procedure.
Tried to rooted with debugging and tablet on.
Thank You
maRul
Start by telling US which model is your galaxy tab 7.
There are many variants.

I used CF-Root V3.3 from chainfire. It works for me.
You must flash this via Odin in Phone slot.

No, kernel is just the kernel it doesnt affect your installed apps.
Anyway, I wouldnt bother with stock GB, I would recommend Overcom rom if you want GB and not ICS/JB.
thanks 4 helping. Installed a new Kernel with Odin3 8.5.
System is now rooted.
Perhaps I will update to ICS or JB later.

Theres no space to install superuser on official 2.3.6 GB.. thats not cfroot kernel fault.. just remove file/app on system..

I have 2.2 Froyo... Need help

Hello, I'd like to update my phone using Smartflash.
I have an official V20B rom which is rooted. I would like to install a new official rom but i'm completely lost when it comes to choosing the right version !
Where can I get the official V20S stock rom (which can be installed with smartflash)
Also, is there any official ICS rom ? (same, for smartflash), if so, is it fully stable ? Where can I get it ? (LG Mobile update says my phone is up to date... Huh)(I have read that you need to change the boot partition or something like that with ICS roms, is it valid for official ICS roms from LG too ?).
Do I have to unroot my phone before installing a new rom with Smartflash ?
Thanks.

1. Make sure that you have P990.
2. V20B should be a gingerbread.
3. If you read one post below yours, you could’ve find exactly what you ask official ICS for smartflash.
Cheers.

I actually have V10B sorry !
I will update via LG Tools with the kdz instead of smartflash. Is there anything to do specifically to keep my data in the phone or is it saved automatically in the LG Tools update process ?
Thanks

I think updating via LG Tool doesn't erase data on your phone... however I would strongly advise you to synchronize your contacts with gmail and backing up you apps with titanium backup in an external sd card.
Update via LG Tool didn't erase my data when I went from 2.2 to 2.3
