hey guys. How to install simplicity ROM? Im currently on stock JVP with Galaxian Kernal. Never done flashing Custom ROM before. Can anyone provide steps to install it?.
First flash semaphore 1.5 via odin.
Copy the Simplicity 0.32 - Wipe CWM3 to ur sd card. not into any folders!!!
Go to recovery mode (HOME+VOL UP+POWER) do a factory reset - IT WILL ERASE ALL THE DATA IN UR PHONE SO PLS DO BACK THEM UP.
After rebooting again go to CWM recovery and install the "rom" .zip file and u are done. Then u can upgrade to 3.3 via the same way.
Its all there in the rom's thread itself. Check it out
" If you are on Gingerbread (2.3). Install a kernel with ClockWordMod (most recent ones do so. Boot into recovery (CWM) and flash the latest wipe version of Simplicity.
If you are on a previous version of Simplicity. Flash the new update zip or the new full no wipe zip in recovery (CWM)."

Two recoveries
Now i have tried installing cwm through rom manager and successfully installed it, now if I go into the recovery mode through rom manager it shows the new recovery but if I go into the recovery mode through the combo (volume up button home button and power button) it goes back into the old recovery ie dark core recovery, so that means I have two recoveries in my sgs? Please help, thanks in advance
Because you're on Darky's ROM, you already have CWM. You don't need to install new one through ROMManager.
Only thing you have to do now, is wipe and flash.
With Darkcore there is no need to install the CWM Recovery through the Rom Manager. Anyway ist seems installing CWM with Rommanger does not work with the SGS. (I didn't try because i always got it with a Custom kernel but i read it a few times). Instead you have to flash a Kernel which includes the CWM Recovery
To the installation of the CM7-Rom. I usually flash a Samsung Stockrom before flashing a Custom Rom. It seems to be the "cleaner" way. But if you go after Erakko's Instructions you will get CM7 as well I think it's on you which way you will prefer.
I Cleaner install would help to make the transition easier...
go back to stock, then to cm7....for a much cleaner install....cause switching between custom firmwares leads to a few bugs at times.
Sorry but getting confused on what is a Nandroid back up, is it the back up option on the CWM or on the darkcore recovery?
It's a CWM-backup.
Nandroid restore table:
BACKUP -> ACTIVE = RESULT
Samsung -> CM =
Samsung -> Samsung =
CM -> CM =
CM -> Samsung =

If you are flashing from another rom.
1. Reboot into recovery using button combos.
2. Flash RC3.1.
3. Reboot into recovery, wipe data / factory reset.
4. Wipe cache.
5. (optional) flash new kernel
6. Reboot.
If you are upgrading from an earlier build.
1. Flash the newest build in CWM.
If you have rebooted and your phone will not go past the kernel screen.
1. Boot into CWM and wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition.
2. Reflash the appropriate kernel.
3. Reboot.

If u just want to flash a new Kernel, it's not neccessary to reflash the whole ROM. Put the Kernels ZIP into internal SD-Card, go to CWM via boot or 3-Button-Combo, head to the zip-file and install it.
It could be useful, to flash the Kernel-cleaning-script that u will find here:

a guide also would mean so much to me...video is better..
btw:can i flash the kernel using ODIN method?how?
hope for your kind consideration and help.
im just dumbfounded with flashing ICS and kernels.
From which ROM are you coming? Cause, in the ROM the CWM is the integrated ... And that's the reason why sometimes the ROM needs to flash two times, means:
Flash ROM
Took out battery and put it in again
3-button-combo to CWM
Flash ROM again
Ready
By flashing the ROM first time, you get the right CWM to flash the ROM correctly ...

Hi,
This may be a noobish question, but if I want to experiment with the new ICS builds, will I be able to simply restore a nandroid to revert to the way I had it before on GB?

Yes you can. Here are the detailed steps for reverting to GB from ICS.
--Download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel with redpill touch recovery Or Abyss 3.9 Kernel (for some users where the 4.2 kernel haven't worked 3.9 worked perfect)from here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424 .
--Now first put this zip on your SD Card before you try to flash anything or restore anything.
--Now boot into recovery - Volume up + Home + Power
--Choose - install zip from SD Card
--Navigate to your Abyss kernel 4.2 or 3.9 zip and flash it
--After flashing is complete- go back to the Recovery start menu
--Go to advanced > reboot recovery
--This will reboot the phone directly to new recovery - Hyperdroid Redpill Recovery
--Now go to Wipe Menu and wipe cache, dalvik and do your factory reset
--After this start your restore from nandroid backup , or flash any GB rom !
Cheers!! Enjoy your Note!
Hit thanks if it helped!
Hi abhi...
I heard that if you're coming from ICS Stunner to Nandroid or Flashed GB Rom, you should downgrade to AbyssNote 3.9 Kernel instead.
Have you experienced such a thing?

Stick to Abyss 4.2!! tried and tested numerous times!!
However once kernel is flashed make sure to reboot the recovery from the kernel, it will reboot into the newly flashed kernel and then try to restore your nandroid.
Just follow what Abhi said and it will be a smooth ride for you mate!!
Hi,
I have very limited experience with my brand new SG note.
Just a few quick questions:
1. I currently have midteam 1.1 installed.
2. If I create a cwm/rom manager backup of the current rom, can I reboot to cwm recovery and simply restore (which I did with lots of struggles.
Restoring after removing sim card worked eventually and that may have nothing to do with restore; but it worked!)?
Would Abyss 4.2 in place have made the recovery smoother?
Or
It is required only if I want to go back to GB again?
3. Can I flash Abyss on top of my current ICS, regardless?
I hope I have put my question properly.
cheers
The only ,I repeat the only safe ICS ROM is cm9 official ,if you install that then you can restore your GB nandroid backup normally from CWM
But with any other ICS ROM you'll have a high chance of bricking if you so a restore or flash from CWM .the reason being is the leaked kernel which is being used in said ROMs have a faulty erasing script and may cause a corrupted nand drive ,thus a permanent brick
Read the public service announcement sticky first before flashing anything.
currently on alliancerom, just wonder if it possible to directly flash ICS back via ODIN or i MUST go back to GB first?
you can flash directly to ICS, you may get some FCs after the flash because of old custom ROM files, So the best thing to do would be to:
Reboot into TWRP recovery (included with Alliance ROM)
wipe cache / dalvik cache / factory reset
reboot download mode
flash ICS via ODIN or Mobile ODIN.

i wonder is it safe to flash philz kernel and reboot recovery into cwm and flash other rom? because as far as i know flashing cwm type of zip will cause big issue in twrp
sure you can, just download it and install like you would a ROM, It might not work with Alliance ROM, so be sure to reboot recovery and change ROM from there. :good:

You can flash Stock ICS and philz kernel at the same time with Mobile Odin. Then, reboot in recovery and do the wipes....that is how I did it and worked fine for me.
