Two recoveries
Now i have tried installing cwm through rom manager and successfully installed it, now if I go into the recovery mode through rom manager it shows the new recovery but if I go into the recovery mode through the combo (volume up button home button and power button) it goes back into the old recovery ie dark core recovery, so that means I have two recoveries in my sgs? Please help, thanks in advance

Because you're on Darky's ROM, you already have CWM. You don't need to install new one through ROMManager.
Only thing you have to do now, is wipe and flash.

With Darkcore there is no need to install the CWM Recovery through the Rom Manager. Anyway ist seems installing CWM with Rommanger does not work with the SGS. (I didn't try because i always got it with a Custom kernel but i read it a few times). Instead you have to flash a Kernel which includes the CWM Recovery
To the installation of the CM7-Rom. I usually flash a Samsung Stockrom before flashing a Custom Rom. It seems to be the "cleaner" way. But if you go after Erakko's Instructions you will get CM7 as well I think it's on you which way you will prefer.

I Cleaner install would help to make the transition easier...
go back to stock, then to cm7....for a much cleaner install....cause switching between custom firmwares leads to a few bugs at times.

Sorry but getting confused on what is a Nandroid back up, is it the back up option on the CWM or on the darkcore recovery?

It's a CWM-backup.

Nandroid restore table:
BACKUP -> ACTIVE = RESULT
Samsung -> CM =
Samsung -> Samsung =
CM -> CM =
CM -> Samsung =

restoring nandroid after ics?

Hi,
This may be a noobish question, but if I want to experiment with the new ICS builds, will I be able to simply restore a nandroid to revert to the way I had it before on GB?

Yes you can. Here are the detailed steps for reverting to GB from ICS.
--Download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel with redpill touch recovery Or Abyss 3.9 Kernel (for some users where the 4.2 kernel haven't worked 3.9 worked perfect)from here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424 .
--Now first put this zip on your SD Card before you try to flash anything or restore anything.
--Now boot into recovery - Volume up + Home + Power
--Choose - install zip from SD Card
--Navigate to your Abyss kernel 4.2 or 3.9 zip and flash it
--After flashing is complete- go back to the Recovery start menu
--Go to advanced > reboot recovery
--This will reboot the phone directly to new recovery - Hyperdroid Redpill Recovery
--Now go to Wipe Menu and wipe cache, dalvik and do your factory reset
--After this start your restore from nandroid backup , or flash any GB rom !
Cheers!! Enjoy your Note!
Hit thanks if it helped!
Hi abhi...
I heard that if you're coming from ICS Stunner to Nandroid or Flashed GB Rom, you should downgrade to AbyssNote 3.9 Kernel instead.
Have you experienced such a thing?

Stick to Abyss 4.2!! tried and tested numerous times!!
However once kernel is flashed make sure to reboot the recovery from the kernel, it will reboot into the newly flashed kernel and then try to restore your nandroid.
Just follow what Abhi said and it will be a smooth ride for you mate!!
Hi,
I have very limited experience with my brand new SG note.
Just a few quick questions:
1. I currently have midteam 1.1 installed.
2. If I create a cwm/rom manager backup of the current rom, can I reboot to cwm recovery and simply restore (which I did with lots of struggles.
Restoring after removing sim card worked eventually and that may have nothing to do with restore; but it worked!)?
Would Abyss 4.2 in place have made the recovery smoother?
Or
It is required only if I want to go back to GB again?
3. Can I flash Abyss on top of my current ICS, regardless?
I hope I have put my question properly.
cheers
The only ,I repeat the only safe ICS ROM is cm9 official ,if you install that then you can restore your GB nandroid backup normally from CWM
But with any other ICS ROM you'll have a high chance of bricking if you so a restore or flash from CWM .the reason being is the leaked kernel which is being used in said ROMs have a faulty erasing script and may cause a corrupted nand drive ,thus a permanent brick
Read the public service announcement sticky first before flashing anything.

Okay heres the thing , I want to flash a new roms and I did the same old thing
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Go to advance screen and wipe dalvik cache
Install zip from sd card - > choose zip from sd card. Find your ROM in the extSDcard.
Flash the ROM and reboot system.
While flashing , it took so long to actually flash like 10mins or so and I give up and I did a hard reset.
Can anyone point to me where did I do wrong ?
And I'm trying to flash this

Just download Hydracore, go back to recovery and flash it... Then go advanced options and reboot recovery.. After that wipe everything again and flash the new rom... Stay away from franco kernel that's way outdated and doesn't work with anything
Tapatalking on my n7000

i tried flashing hydracore and it took for me 10mins plus at the screen and still at the same place.
you tried to flash hydracore, and its not installing ?
may be try to flash back the stock ICS using odin and then flash Philz kernel to gain root
.boot into recovery and go to mounts & storage.
format / sytem
format / data
then try to install your TMT rom
If TMT is installed, Or even part installed then it wont boot with Hydracore kernel, The main thing is just having the kernel installed cause its safe, So, In recovery (with Hydracore installed)
Do all the necessary wipes, Flash the ROM, Then flash the kernel (Philz kernel)
then it should boot
If not, follow the above post to revert back to stock ICS / GB with odin, and then start the whole procedure again :good:

[Q] Stuck at Samsung Boot Screen

Hi guys,
I just flashed the _AllianceROM_JellyBean XXLSC_ALpha1 via rom customizer from JB RocketRom V1. I am now stuck at samsung boot screen and i can't access my nandroid backups generated using CWM as the TWRP doesn't detact them . I would really appreciate if some1 could tell me how can i solve this problem.
Thanks!
Have you tried doing a factory reset?
Use odin and download mode to go back to any stock rom as a second option
I didn't have the chance to enable usb debugging before this happen. Is there any other solutions for this?
Why do you need adb? Boot into recovery and do a resrt

Stuck at samsung boot screen (the one with samsung logo and NOT galaxy note) is called bootloop
You need a fresh new system, try the following:
1- reboot into recovery (Home + Power + Volume UP)
2- Install a safe kernel - I recommend (Abyss GB Kernel)
3- In recovery >> Advanced >> reboot Recovery
4- when it boots up, do Factory Reset/Data Wipe 3 times
5- Do Cache wipe 3 times
6- Go to Advanced & do Dalvik Cache wipe 3 times
7- Go to Mounts & Storage & do FORMAT SYSTEM
8- Go to Mounts & Storage & do FORMAT PRELOAD
9- Now, Re-Flash Alliance ROM & Reboot - The ROM should come with its own Kernel
Furthermore, it is best if you did your nandroid backups in CWM just before installing a new ROM and while being on Abyss kernel (or whatever safe kernel you're intending to use) to avoid MD5 Checksum failure when restoring
Also, I would recommend you do MD5 Checksum on the Alliance ROM zip file and make sure it matches the one in the thread (you'll find it in the OP, almost always next to the download link - I use MD5Check for windows
P.S. If you can't get into recovery, you got a brick issue, refer to brick threads
Best of luck

[Q] help for flash cm10.1

from stock ics n already rooted. now i want flash cm10.1, i already download cm10.1 n7000 nightly, gapps 20130301, n cm kernel 10.1.
for flash cwm recovery i want to flash via rom manager app, its safe?
if it working flash cwm recovery form rom manager apk, whats step for flash cm10.1?
how if i backup first current rom via cwm recovery?
reboot to cwm recovery-flash cm10.1 kernel-reboot recovery-clean data-flash rom-flash gapps-reboot.
that is right?
please help....thanks
sory for my bad english
Download Philz Kernel that corresponds to your version of ICS. Put the zip file onto your external SD card.
Turn your phone off, then turn it on by pressing and holding 3 buttons at once: Volume up, power button and home button
Once you are in the recovery, install Philz kernel from sd card. Once that is done reboot, turn the phone off. Go into recovery with the same 3 keys.
From the safe recovery, do the following:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
advanced => wipe dalvik cache
mounts and storage => format /system and then format/preload
After you have done those step:
Install zip from sd card => from internal/external (pick) and select the cm10.1 nightly zip
Once that has finished Install gapps
Then do a data wip/factory reset
No need to flash the cm10.1 kernel you posted about because when you flash a ROM then it flashes a new kernel too
I agree with the abovementioned instruction. Just one part may be critical. If you're using PhilZ kernel prior to (lower than) Version 3.99, you'll end up with a Status 7 error message saying installation aborted.
IMHO downloading a CM10.1 kernel and putting it on root of the internal SD does no harm.
If you'll end up with a Status 7 error message, you could just flash CM10.1 kernel and go to advanced within CWM and choose reboot to recovery.
Then, from CM10.1 kernel's CWM recovery you'll be able to install CM ROM and GApps easily. Doing a wipe data etc.

Help with flashing philz kernel and custom rom

Hi, I need some help - I want to flash my Note to Liquid Smooth 2.2 rom, so please tell me if I'm thinking properly.
1) My note have stock 4.1.2 rom XXLSA, so I need to flash letest Philz kernel from stock recovery, with is "PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSA-DBT-3.99-signed"
2) Do full backup, and flash latest CM10.1 kernel ("Kernel_CM10.1_Official_20130403_n7000_N8Mali"), reboot recovery into CM cwm
3) Full wipe - wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache
4) install rom zip and next gapps, reboot
Is everything as it should be? And what is N8Mali in cm10.1 name? There are a lot of kernel, so I don't know if this will be ok for me. Thanks for help, and sory for my stupid questions... but I really like to know if I'm doing everything in good way.
You don't need to flash the cm kernel after you flashed the philz kernel.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I have read somwhere that It is safer to flash from cm kernel, because flashing from philz sometimes goes wrong. But thanks for answer, thats easier without it
So I have another stupid question - If I want to go back to stock android in future, can I just reboot to cm recovery and restore backup of stock rom? Or I have to firstly flash philz kernel to restore?

Restoring backup in CWM (CM version) will be just fine. Thou, you can flash philz kernel first...but it is not necessary.
So first of all you are on XXLSA and want to flash Liquid smooth 2.2 so here are the steps :
1. download philz kernel for xxlsa .tar from here http://www.mediafire.com/file/wxqlp64nu6s7v66/PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSA-DBT-3.99.tar.md5
2. download odin from here and extract it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
3. open odin and click on PDA and insert the .tar Philz Kernel in
4. Go in to download mode with pressing Home+Volume Down+Power
5. Connect your phone with your Computer now odin should say "Added" and click START
6. after flashing the kernel disconnect your phone and let your phone boot it will take some mins
NOW YOU GOT ROOT AND CWM
7. the next step is that you put the liquid smooth 2.2 file and the gapps file in your phone storage
8. open CWM = volume up+home+power
9. Wipe everything
10. go to install zip from sd card after that from internal storage
11. now go to the liquid smooth file and flash it
12. after the liquid smooth file flash the gapps file
13. now reboot !
YOU ARE DONE !!!
i have one suggestion
Format /system, /data, preload (in mount and storage option) after doing wipes .
he need to flash cm kernel for flashing 4.2.2 aosp roms. in philz kernel cm 10.1 base rom installation will fail.
