sory for my bad english

Download Philz Kernel that corresponds to your version of ICS. Put the zip file onto your external SD card.
Turn your phone off, then turn it on by pressing and holding 3 buttons at once: Volume up, power button and home button
Once you are in the recovery, install Philz kernel from sd card. Once that is done reboot, turn the phone off. Go into recovery with the same 3 keys.
From the safe recovery, do the following:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
advanced => wipe dalvik cache
mounts and storage => format /system and then format/preload
After you have done those step:
Install zip from sd card => from internal/external (pick) and select the cm10.1 nightly zip
Once that has finished Install gapps
Then do a data wip/factory reset
No need to flash the cm10.1 kernel you posted about because when you flash a ROM then it flashes a new kernel too

I agree with the abovementioned instruction. Just one part may be critical. If you're using PhilZ kernel prior to (lower than) Version 3.99, you'll end up with a Status 7 error message saying installation aborted.
IMHO downloading a CM10.1 kernel and putting it on root of the internal SD does no harm.
If you'll end up with a Status 7 error message, you could just flash CM10.1 kernel and go to advanced within CWM and choose reboot to recovery.
Then, from CM10.1 kernel's CWM recovery you'll be able to install CM ROM and GApps easily. Doing a wipe data etc.

Two recoveries
Now i have tried installing cwm through rom manager and successfully installed it, now if I go into the recovery mode through rom manager it shows the new recovery but if I go into the recovery mode through the combo (volume up button home button and power button) it goes back into the old recovery ie dark core recovery, so that means I have two recoveries in my sgs? Please help, thanks in advance
Because you're on Darky's ROM, you already have CWM. You don't need to install new one through ROMManager.
Only thing you have to do now, is wipe and flash.
With Darkcore there is no need to install the CWM Recovery through the Rom Manager. Anyway ist seems installing CWM with Rommanger does not work with the SGS. (I didn't try because i always got it with a Custom kernel but i read it a few times). Instead you have to flash a Kernel which includes the CWM Recovery
To the installation of the CM7-Rom. I usually flash a Samsung Stockrom before flashing a Custom Rom. It seems to be the "cleaner" way. But if you go after Erakko's Instructions you will get CM7 as well I think it's on you which way you will prefer.
I Cleaner install would help to make the transition easier...
go back to stock, then to cm7....for a much cleaner install....cause switching between custom firmwares leads to a few bugs at times.
Sorry but getting confused on what is a Nandroid back up, is it the back up option on the CWM or on the darkcore recovery?
It's a CWM-backup.
Nandroid restore table:
BACKUP -> ACTIVE = RESULT
Samsung -> CM =
Samsung -> Samsung =
CM -> CM =
CM -> Samsung =

Can't flash in CWM

Hey Guys,
I have this problem where i cant seem to flash to any new roms in CWM with the new roms in zip files on my SD card.
I have tried flashing to new kernels but it doesn't seem to change anything.
The last rom i flashed was Criskelo v7 and i haven't changed because i cant every time i try to flash something new in CWM it seems like it only just starts to do it then freezes and i leave it because it might be working and it always end up rebooting and then i find I'm back on Criskelo v7 as if its a fresh install and it need my google account / full setup as if its new but no new rom.
I have also tried updating CWM with odin it works to update odin but it still cant flash any new roms.
Am i doing something wrong? please if anyone has any idea let me know.
Sorry if this has been covered but i really did try and find similar problems.
Thanks
What does the screen read? Error 7?

Flash ANy ROMS
Dr_Rag
if you want to flash any roms using cwm,
1. Flash Safe kernels like Hydracore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863) or Philz Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270).
2. Reboot in recovery
3. Do all 3 wipes (wipe data, wipe cache partition & wipe dalvik cache)
4. Flash romzip
5. Reboot
If you want to flash XXLS7 TW JB Dump Based Roms , then
1. Flash Safe kernels like Hydracore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863) or Philz Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270).
2. Reboot in recovery
3. Do all 3 wipes (wipe data, wipe cache partition & wipe dalvik cache)
4. Format /system & /preload in mount and storage

BTW what rom you are going to install
I had a similar issue and it was a root issue.
To see if it is the same for you, if you have SuperSU, open it, and press 'Continue' if prompted to update binary. If this fails, your problem is root related, the solution of which is below. Unfortunately I don't know how else to test if you don't have SuperSU or if the update prompt doesn't appear.
Below is how I fixed the problem. It may not work for you, and if it doesn't, it's not my fault.
Also note this method will fix the issue no matter what caused it, and wipes data, so backup what you need. It also assumes your ROM is flashable.
1 Put your ROM anywhere in /storage/sdcard0 on your phone.
2 Go to hotfile.com/dl/155490069/c7932d4/N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_DBT.zip.html on your computer to download N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_DBT.
4 Extract this to produce N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5.
5 Flash this through Odin.
6 After your phone reboots (you can't get into the actual OS so you must do this in the Samsung boot animation), enter recovery.
7 Wipe data and cache.
8 Enter download mode.
9 Go to puu.sh/1q5mJ to download GL_NOTECORE_HYDRACORE_v4-3b_STD.tar.
10 Flash this through Odin.
11 After your phone reboots (you don't need to wait to get into the actual OS - you can do it in the Samsung boot animation), enter recovery.
12 Flash your ROM.

Stock ICS --> JB Leak?

Hi all,
I know similar questions have been asked literally hundred times, but as a complete noob to roms, I want to make sure that I get a full set of instructions and then I won't brick my phone. I want to upgrade my note to this JB Rom by cronosmachine. I'm on stock ICS 4.0.4. Never rooted or did modding to the phone. No kernel change (which I know nothing about), nothing.
I'm not sure how much info you guys will need but here are the basics:
Baseband version: N7000XXLRB
Kernel version: 3.0. 15-1115729
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 20 00:40:29 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.ZSLPN
I know that I have to first root my phone to get CWM? My guess is to follow method 1 on [24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM?
And then from there I don't know what to do in order to get the ROM onto my phone.
And is there anything else I need to be aware of?
Appreciate any kind of help.
yes first root usin 1a method using philz kernel.
Once done, you will have root and cwm and is a safe kernel.
Download the zip file of the rom you want to flash and place it on internal or external sd card.
boot into recovery now (vol up +power+home)
go to mounts and storage
format/system
format/data
format/cache
go to advanced
wipe dalvik cache
go back
install zip.
point to the rom you downloaded.. and wait for it to install. that's all. see your phone booting into jb.
hope that was clear enough

On Phils' post where I can download the rooted kernel, I don't see XXLRB (my baseband version), but I do see a ZSLPN (my build number). Is the ZSLPN the one i'm supposed to download?

Thanks SpyderTracks.
One more question before I pull the trigger, can all this be done with the "internal" SD card? Or does it have to be an external SD?
stock recovery doesnot allow installation from internal SD. so external is required. but you can use PC odin to install it, but it will leave a yellow triangle and increase the counter. later you can use triangle away app to reset it, Final call is yours.,
So after I installed philz's root and safe kernel, I went into recovery to wipe data cache system, went also wiped dalvik. Then I went to the main menu, chose install zip, tried to select choose zip from sdcard, but it keeps giving me this error: E:Can't mount /sdcard/
Nevermind, I managed to install from internal SD. But I'm not liking the ROM that much, so I plan on flashing CM10 Nightly to try it out.
On the CM10 thread, it says that I shouldn't be on a ROM based on stock. What I want to do is to flash CM9. But in order to do that, I'm not sure if I'm already on a safe kernel (after rooting using dr.ketan's 1a method (Phil's)).

I am not sure what kernel it has. boot into recovery and check what you see.. If it's philz the you can just flash the cm10 on it. else. install philz xxls7

I'm not sure either, I booted into recovery, went into Philz Settings > about, and got CWM base 6.0.1.5, and PhilZ Touch 3.00 (n7000).
And what you're saying is that if I'm on Philz xxls7 kernel, I can go right to flashing CM10, without worrying the "do not flash on stock based ICS fw" (even though I'm on jb)?
Yes.. you are on philz kernel and you can directly install CM10

Thanks for the information. But I want to know what makes my case an exception from
- Make sure to run CM9 or an AOSP-based ROM : FLASHING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK! - You're warned!

I'm on a JB rom but it's based on stock, isn't that essentially the same as based on stock ICS?
the warning was when the safe ics kernels were not in effect.

Thanks for the quick reply!! When I get home, I'll try this out!
So what I need to do is
put the zip files onto my SD,
reboot into recovery,
install the rom,
install google apps,
wipe data,
factory reset,
reboot into cm10
I don't need to wipe system/cache/dalvik??
once in recovery
mounts & storage
format/system & data & cache
then install rom & gapps

Help with flashing philz kernel and custom rom

Hi, I need some help - I want to flash my Note to Liquid Smooth 2.2 rom, so please tell me if I'm thinking properly.
1) My note have stock 4.1.2 rom XXLSA, so I need to flash letest Philz kernel from stock recovery, with is "PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSA-DBT-3.99-signed"
2) Do full backup, and flash latest CM10.1 kernel ("Kernel_CM10.1_Official_20130403_n7000_N8Mali"), reboot recovery into CM cwm
3) Full wipe - wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache
4) install rom zip and next gapps, reboot
Is everything as it should be? And what is N8Mali in cm10.1 name? There are a lot of kernel, so I don't know if this will be ok for me. Thanks for help, and sory for my stupid questions... but I really like to know if I'm doing everything in good way.
You don't need to flash the cm kernel after you flashed the philz kernel.

I have read somwhere that It is safer to flash from cm kernel, because flashing from philz sometimes goes wrong. But thanks for answer, thats easier without it
So I have another stupid question - If I want to go back to stock android in future, can I just reboot to cm recovery and restore backup of stock rom? Or I have to firstly flash philz kernel to restore?

Restoring backup in CWM (CM version) will be just fine. Thou, you can flash philz kernel first...but it is not necessary.
So first of all you are on XXLSA and want to flash Liquid smooth 2.2 so here are the steps :
1. download philz kernel for xxlsa .tar from here http://www.mediafire.com/file/wxqlp64nu6s7v66/PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSA-DBT-3.99.tar.md5
2. download odin from here and extract it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
3. open odin and click on PDA and insert the .tar Philz Kernel in
4. Go in to download mode with pressing Home+Volume Down+Power
5. Connect your phone with your Computer now odin should say "Added" and click START
6. after flashing the kernel disconnect your phone and let your phone boot it will take some mins
NOW YOU GOT ROOT AND CWM
7. the next step is that you put the liquid smooth 2.2 file and the gapps file in your phone storage
8. open CWM = volume up+home+power
9. Wipe everything
10. go to install zip from sd card after that from internal storage
11. now go to the liquid smooth file and flash it
12. after the liquid smooth file flash the gapps file
13. now reboot !
YOU ARE DONE !!!
i have one suggestion
Format /system, /data, preload (in mount and storage option) after doing wipes .
he need to flash cm kernel for flashing 4.2.2 aosp roms. in philz kernel cm 10.1 base rom installation will fail.

How to install CM11

How to install CM11 on a stockbased ace if you cant use CWM for it on stock based roms?
Do you use the stock recovery to install CM11 rom first?
What standard procedure is being used?
First flash CWM 5.0.2.6 from your stock recovery, How-to and download link is pinned in the main thread of S5830 !
Then you can flash CWM 6xx recovery which will then install the CM11 ROM !
