Roms? - Motorola Droid 3

Now with root I cant wait to get some custom roms again!!!!

cyanogen?

Doesn't the bootloader still need to be unlocked before custom roms can be used?

They could make a bootstrapper like what was used for the d2 and dx

How do you add custom roms? I tried installing rom manager but it doesnt list droid 3 in the phone models i have to choose...what do i do?

There aren't any available yet. Patience, young patawon

this is my first time rooting. so, now that im rooted but cant install custom roms, what can i do? anyway to make my phone faster, like overclocking or getting rid of the motorola bloatware?? my d3 lags like crazy for some reason

is it possible to install a custom recovery (RzR or CWR?) or will that need unlocked bootloader?
My bad if the question has already been answered

Should try DroidWall instead it blocks any unwanted apps from internet access therefore no ads, well worth it.

WOW. The results are unbelievable..my phone is atleast 3-4 times faster. Before this I would have an average of 80-120 mb ram free, and now almost 200mb. I used to have TERRIBLE lag on this, sometimes waiting up to 5-10 seconds for my camera app to open..it was absurd. Now, its snappy..opens up in under 2 seconds.
AMAZED.
So, how long until I can make this baby even faster with a custom rom such as cyanogen?

Tranquility ROM

there is a new ROM over on mydroidworld its by P3Droid and it has most of the stock blur removed..its pretty sweet if anyone wants to try it out..all credits go to the creater of the rom
Looks identical to Birdman. Meh
He pulled the same apk's. Identical. I appreciate the effort but we need something new.
Link:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-mods/4467-tranquility-blurless-droid-x-within-reach.html
This is a good rom for those that haven't already manually removed all of the bloatware themselves. Otherwise, nothing special. Atleast yet.
I figured some people might like the stock messaging app alarm clock and gallery..i hated the motoblur messaging..this plus the froyo

I never bothered upgrading to birdman since I had already removed most of the junk myself so it just didn't seem like a good enough reason to wipe. This rom on other hand does not require a wipe and it is nice to have the stock message app as well.
I updated to tranquility, because it was deodexed and I had not yet done that. Now I was able to use the black status bar with white text. No major differences from stock than that and removal of a lot of blur.

A lot of blur can be removed, you just have to have applications to take their places. And it has to be able to work without blur supporting it. That's what these ROMs are so far. They're either floating over blur or taking over certain components of it.
Most of us however are waiting for a vanilla build heh.

well i wonder if Birdman will make the vanilla rom he was talking about. I guess he had a falling out with alldroid.org, and said he won't be posting there anymore. anyone know what happened?
Not sure about you guys.. But I was having a lot of random reboots with this "rom". Went back to my own deodexed and bloat removed nandroid. Much faster. and much more stable now.

Netflix on the market? for stock 2.2 no less

So I downloaded netflix from the market, and it says in the list of supported devices that the HTC Thunderbolt is one. Now it does install and accepts your username password, you can see your qeue and it attemps to play the vid, but fails with a DRM required message. any one else seeing this? if you search for it it will not appear, but if you select apps, all apps, free apps then scroll down its listed. click install and try to enjoy a mostly usable app.

it will never work on stock or rooted froyo for the thunderbolt (at least not without netflix directly supporting it). person that said it did on that forum is full of it. amount of effort to make it work would not be worth it. GB will be out soon and nearly everyone has it already on here. Anyone who wont root to get netflix obviously doesnt want it bad enough

Ok ok, im not a dev, but.... Look at the LG Revolution. It is running 2.2.1 and netflix runs perfectly out of the box. in my ignorance, I dont know why it would be any more dificult to modify it to work with other froyo devices. Netflix does NOT need GB to function, it appears as if it needs it for the TBolt but not overall. That being said they made Droid Bionic support available so take everything with a grain of salt. Maybe GB will be coming soon and rather than fix issues with the TBolt again soon they figured set it up for GB and users can use it then (and root users now ).

I don't think he is saying that we shouldn't root our phones because companies disapprove. I think he is saying, don't root your phone if you want that particular app to work without issue....
I'm curious to know how the app checks whether the device is rooted. I see similar behavior with the new Android Market on my rooted Nook Color; Movies just don't show up, but I don't get a SuperUser request, or anything indicating the app is checking for the ability to gain root.

Are you sure its rooted? Rooted? Rooted?
I bet that the app can scan the installed apps and check for SU. I would check the permissions of the app and see if there is anything odd. If your running CM7 i thought a little while back they introduced the ability to block permissions for apps. Might start there.

2014 I'veRooted My N3, Now What?

So I search xda and couldn't find anything current.

I installed root checker, but that's it.
What do you folks suggest one does with a freshly root N3?
backing up?
removing bloatware?
make the powerful N3 even better?
what things have you rooting pros done with your new N3,
are there "must do" things as well?
I know some of you have really improved your stock N3, what do you suggest one do fresh after rooting?
Titanium Backup is a must for freezing and/or removing bloatware.
After that, check out Exposed Framework and Wanam, That will keep you busy for a while.
I would recommend a custom ROM

Spend some time and flash any ROMs that appear interesting till you find one you like. Install Xposed framework and browse through all the modules and look for anything that interests you; Wanam and App Setting are probably the 2 most popular modules and sometimes installed already on custom ROMs.

Welcome to the community! Titanium backup pro is a must if you're going to be romming and modding you're android devices. Custom roms are definitely the way to go especially being new to android modding. There are a few really smart dudes developing great custom roms for the n9005a. They do all the work that you would want done and they're really good at it. I recommend knoxraid by @drakeymcmb. He has been involved with romming this phone since before we had a recovery to flash from. There a bunch of helpful people that follow his thread.

Keep up the post-rooting tips guys, I'm gonna edit the 1st post and start listing all your suggestions :good:
What else, us newbies what to learn more.

is it worth rooting?

Previously I've used Samsung devices, which I root the moment I get them. I've tried stock and its horrible, rooting is pretty much necessary. But then I got this phone and its got just about everything I wanted in a ROM on my Samsung devices. What has been the experience of you lot? Is it that big of a difference?
It's just like everyone else says. 100% personal preference.
I root all my devices primarily for Xposed framework. It's something I pretty much can't live without. The stock ROM on the X is near flawless as is, so I have no desire to flash a custom ROM, but Xposed gives me the little flourishes that I like that aren't offered by the stock ROM.
Aside from flashing ROMs on your Samsungs, were there any root apps that you grew accustomed to using? Maybe Titanium Backup? If so, then root. If not, don't. You'll have an amazing experience either way.

Couple random little things, like viper4android, but your sentiment was the general mimpression I had as well.
It is all personal preference. I used to root for the Roms, but the Moto X 2014 is nearly perfect on stock. I still root because I like to be able to install an ad blocker and be able to reboot rather than just powering off.
Although I initially rooted my X on KitKat for xposed, I believe its perfectly good even left as stock. I only rooted after moving to Lollipop to reduce the DPI as that's the one thing about stock X that really gets on my nerves. Everything else is gravy.

It is, yeah. But I've always been more comfortable doing it via apps or build.prop editors..so..
Besides, I tend to change it around quite a few times till I've settled on one that suits me best. I'd rather not be tied down to a computer to do it. Rooting is just a one-time hassle so I prefer it that way. Plus, greenify, adblock, etc.
