My phone is much much faster now. Had absolutely no problems deleting ALL of the bloatware and verizon crap. My phone is ATLEAST 3x faster now. No more response lag. Before rooting and removing bloatware, I averaged 80-110mb free ram...after root and bloatware remove i now have 200mb free. I am blown away with how fast it is now...
Now I'm just wondering how long we will have to wait for custom roms like cyanogen...?
Could you maybe give us a guide on how to remove "bloatware". Could be very helpful for us less advanced users.

Don't delete any apps, simply rename them to .bak or move them to another folder. Deleting them means you won't be able to get any OTA updates.
how do you rename them without root explorer? is there a free app that allows you to do the same thing?

adb would let you rename and/or move them.
droid 3 rebot
I have a droid 3, I made the root, and delete some applications and then now every time I turn it on, it restarts and keeps restarting, help please
Any commentary on effect on battery life? I saw some guys in the dev section of the forum reporting really good battery life, but I believe they were undervolting or downclocking the cpu as well.
Also, when you say prevent you from getting OTA, do we need to rename bak's back to apk when we hear of an OTA in order to get it? I have heard OTA would likely undo root, so it may be a trade-off between fixing the blue tinted camera and having good speed/battery life.
Besides the dangerous suggestion of deleting apps, the OP must have had some apps killing his device, since I am not seeing any plausible way to get three times the performance. Device is responsive, 2500 Quadrant (FWIW) and this is in spite of no root yet, plus 1.3gb of apps installed.
Also, some the apps in the list to delete are interdependent on some stock apps, based on the rash of "help me!" posts that are starting to appear in forums.
Freeze them, yes, but do not delete them.
C'mon guys...we are smarter than this. Yes, having root is awesome but I just took delivery of the D3 for my wife last week and it is a quick and snappy phone all stock. The only real reason I see to root is that she was a bit disappointed that she couldn't tether. But we were able to get that working very simply by modifying the radio. Yes I now have free tether without root. I will not deny that I am just itching to root and unleash the power of this beast but I think it wise to wait or at least warn of potential consequences till we have a functional sbf available before just going ape-**** with the delete button and instructing how to do so? I have already seen a couple of threads by noobs pleading for a fix because they deleted something and bricked their device. It sucks! We need to warn there is no sbf or any other way of undoing **** ups yet.... just sayin

Battery life
After freezing all the bloatware my battery life went up from 6 hours to 30 hours. I can't believe the difference. The main culprit may have been DLNA.
I still have no idea what dlna was supposed to do. Anyone?

Anyone have problems with Contacts FCing when selecting a name from the list?
I only unistalled all the VZ apps, now I'm having this problem.
I have the D3 system dump ready to go, but I'm not sure what app could have caused a symptom like this.
Any ideas?

Is it safe to delete the two games form Com2us? Even though I uninstalled them from the apps menu, their data still resides in the /preinstall/app folder and its taking up almost 250mb of data
Even though we don't have much in the way of Custom ROMS for our beloved XT860 at this point, you can get rid of much of the bloatware and speed up your device quite a bit.
I must give credit to lifeinanalog and his original post on Android Forums regarding bloatware on the Bell XT860.
I am in no way responsible for anything that you do to your phone. While this has worked great for me, it may not work out the same way for you.
You will need root access: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240130
And will need Titanium Backup Pro installed: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackupPro&hl=en
Using Titanium Backup Pro, I have frozen the following Apps. Once you reboot your device, they will no longer appear in your app drawer. You can always bring them back by 'un-freezing' them:

I didn't remove any of the apps that I listed - only froze them.
Have had no problems from freezing any of the apps in the OP.
The 'phone portal' does not affect your ability to make calls. From what I have read it is just another way to connect to the device through your computer. See this post here for more detailed information about it: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/28340
I am not sure what the suggestions apps do, but freezing them hasn't caused any problems.
Zoompass is a mobile payment service and I am assuming zoom mode is related to it. Again no problems from freezing it.

Thanks, didn't realize that the script could also be used on the XT860, thought it was designed for the Verizon D3 only.
Does the script freeze or remove the apps?
I'm hesitant to remove anything because of the lack of an .sbf for the XT860.

I tried doing a manual debloat a while back but didn't really see much performance change. That's why I made those changes to the build.prop files (I posted it under general). My phone is pretty fast, but the battery still really sucks. I think we are all impatiently waiting the XT860 update together!
I manually removed about 50MB of apk's in system/app folder of the 5.7.894 ROM. I did not remove Yahoo and Corporate.
I can't sync the FaceBook and/or Twitter avatars with my address book. Did I remove too many?

Just install/reinstall facebook from market, I've had similar problems with FB a few times and that's always fixed it.

You need to keep the blur facebook authenticator if you want to sync facebook with your contacts
About de-bloating:
When I uninstall the blur activesync autenticator I get force-close when I select a contact in the contacts menu.
I can confirm that I do not have the ability to sync Facebook contacts after removing the authenticator (I never synced them to begin with)

Visual voicemail disappeared
I froze the majority of the apps on this list, and while my phone does run much faster, my visual voicemail app seems to be gone. None of the apps I had the option to freeze said anything about visual voicemail, so I'm wondering if it is linked to another app/service that I froze maybe? Any tips on this would be great.
I have the Bionic on Verizon, rooted and using the Liberty ROM. Looking for the factory installed visual voicemail app, unless someone has a suggestion for a better one... Thanks in advance for the help!

Yeah. If you uninstall, there's no way to get it back without pushing/installing the apk manually (Which is really bad if your phone needs the uninstalled app to run).
If you just freeze it, it has all the effects that uninstalling does (keeps the system from reading/using it) except if you need it back, just press unfreeze and all is well.

I actually have never seen the verizon visual voicemail app on my Bionic. Hard to believe, I know. So, are you paying for the Verizon VVM service?
When I was waiting for a Google Voice invitation I found a pretty cool VVM app called YouMail; it allows you to set different answering machine greetings for different people or groups. I think I just wanted Google Voice so bad, I didn't hang long enough with YouMail. Both are totally free!!
Location to download deleted stock APK's?
I am a noob to XDA but I rooted my Bionic right when I got it about 6 months ago. After I rooted it I deleted a few of the bloatware app's that I thought I would never need, but I did not realize that it would mess up OTA updates. I now want to get the .902 update but it keeps failing. I am assuming it is because I deleted City ID, Slacker Radio, V CAST Media Manager, V CAST Music, VCAST Tones, and V CAST Videos. I have looked all over XDA and the web and have not found them anywhere to download. Can anyone send me these files so I can get the update? I could do a complete restore but I would prefer to do it this way. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

Emergency will allow your carrier to send you Emergency Alerts based on your geographic location. It's part of the new national Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) - so essentially you're carrying a weather/emergency radio around with you - and you don't have to "opt in" to the area you're in. Traveling through a blizzard/tornado warning area, it will vibrate and have an audible alert to let you know.
It's been a long time coming & as an emergency preparedness/response professional, I love it. Please don't disable it as bloatware, it's far from it.

Yes, that is why your update is failing. If you search around, you can fix the issue (like the link below yours says).

When doing a factory reset, it asks about restoring apps, etc. I check yes.
Then it seems it's doing it again through Samsung when I login to Samsung during setup.
Are redundant restores happening? Should I should one and not the other?
Any thoughts?
Yes they are basically redundant. I do both to restore as much data as possible and save myself some effort setting everything back up.
I use both also, often feel I'm wasting time but who knows.

its all about freshness.
so appart from apps, one thing samsung offers that goofle dosent is if u use stock launcher, homescreen layout and wallpaper and aod get restored. same goes for keyboard and related custom data associated to it if you use stock input.
wifi and bluetooth pairings would also be restored too, not to mention alarms also.
So in essence if one believes their next device is going to be another Samsung then perhaps best disable most if not all of the Google backup and restore options? If anything perhaps more added battery life perhaps.

well knowing google, apps are tagged from the playstore as being installed.( app library vs installed).so backups arent done on/from your device. when restoring they check last device ID and match the associated installed app from your library.
anyways thats what i think. so all in all not sure if disabling it would help or not.
BUT again, its all about the freshness.
which service offers the very last apps you installed?
but one thing to rhink about is: samsung will restore google play and samsung store apps.
where as whit Google, i think would only restore playstore apps(since they just check playstore library associated to device ID).
I was also referring to other things Google also backup. Turning these off.

so this just in, samsung backup dosent restore app data where as google does. so this means apps are restored but none of the custom data)settings) is actually restored (like rooted people do with titanium backup).
edit i should mention that i was on android pie doing a backup using smart switch. it asked me where i wanted it and i chose my ext sd card. unpon flashing a new rom and setting it up, i used again smart switch to to restore this time, so i chose the sd card logo at the the top right of the screen and it took a while. so not sure how this backup /restore method differs from the regular samsung cloud ...but it did not restore app data. since it was local i am a bit flabbergasted by these findings. would have expected data since google restores it from the network and does include it....i wont try the other regular method via Samsung cloud since the space allotted is limited to around 10 or 15 gig.in comparison my local backup with smart switch took over 25 gb(got 400+ apps) so thats why im not expecting any better viaa regular cloud sync... but we never know. maybe someone with a smaller volume of content can offer some results.
oh and on the flip side, samsung restores more apps than googles does. i suspect it dosnt check for the playstore app signature and just blindly backups all user apps.. just a darn shame about the data part...(not user settings data like passwords and for wifi and bluetooth pairing but acctual applicaion data)
just wanted to share my findings with you guys
google play back will restore all apps downloaded from the play store but it will not restore any app downloaded from other sources like galaxy apps or aptoide
samsung backup and restores all the apps that are installed on your devices regardless of where it came from
so usually i will let google restore my apps so that i will get the latest apps from the store then i will restore from samsung cloud to get the extra apps i installed from other sources plus my apps folders

wow this is news to me !
I was hesitant to buy P40 Pro (I had P30 pro) because of a lack of GMS. But I am spontaneous and had a birthday... and both one
My first observations:
+Great camera - especially zoom one!
+video is better
+Has double tap to wake up, boy how I missed this I disabled it - too many self unlocks
+Fast!
+UFS 3 is a lot faster internal storage than 2 on P30 - downloading pictures is 2x faster over WiFi
-the screen is a bit darker than P30's?
-this huge cutout on a screen for useless (for me!) 3D camera
-has pre-applied screen protector I removed it and now is fine
-The wide camera is 18mm instead of 16mm in P30 Pro
- battery last shorter time
more + and - will come as I use it from 5 h
Now about missing services - phone clone app is by far the best cloning solution I ever used - in 5 minutes I had an almost exact copy of my P30!!! Minus Google Chrome and something else, I can't remember I miss Chrome but for now, with some minor hiccups, FireFox is filling the gap! Chrome is the best I installed it
All apps I use are up and running for the moment - future updates I need to figure it out how to backup calendar? - The internal backup app is doing the job remain to be seen restore if needed
In General, I am happy with it, only time can prove me wrong
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Still doubting to buy this phone. Chromecast and lack of Strava are the only things really holding me back at the moment.
Chrome I never use anyway (Firefox preview is nice!), I suppose Brave Browder doesn't work either? Or does it?

Today using apkmirror I instaled chrome and google gallery - they work thou cant make chrome sign in with my account
Aha alright. Have you tried APKPure already? This app keeps your apps up to date as well. Or AuroraStore, it's kind of similar I believe. Same goes for the Amazon AppStore, or AppGallery of course. I just hope developers will make apps for AppGallery as well, so we can enjoy Netflix in HD instead of SD, hehe.

Of about 120 apps there's only 1 that i really need which I can't get to run (parklio, they rely on google for the login it seems).
I can easily replace the weather apps that won't work without google, a couple of apps like Banking keep complaining about missing google play services but still work.
Somehow it feels really good to be able to get rid of google in one way or another.
After some time of usage - updating apps seems to be an issue - I played Clash of clans for some years (nursing children accounts too ) and when moved to P40 everything seems to be ok BUT new version seems to be a problem - found the game in Amazon store - when tried to install it sais uninstall first - I'll lose all accounts after new version arrived tried again this time Amazon Instaled the game as e second version without accounts ....
I have all my apps and games without GMS. Just Sparkasse Bank in Germany haven't but in the future I believe that it will be solved.
And I'm happy without GMS. And my Handy is also happy without Googles devil in my phone.
Is there a chance to run the store and other applications without pop-up notifications? I have tried several articles but none of them remove notifications about the lack of certificates. After 30 minutes of attempts, google frimework id returns, I delete the old gsm application and install v2 but notifications like that are still there. Anyone have any idea or know the solution?
The P40 Pro has been a blessing in disguise. Challenging at first, it has been a great exercise to eliminate my reliance on Google services. The only Google app that I have installed (other than Android lol) is YouTube Vanced. I just wanted the player instead of the website, and I'm not even logging into it.
I'm also using Waze which apparently is owned by Google, but it does not rely on GMS at all. I do miss Google Maps a little, especially my custom maps and pins everywhere. Time will tell if I really need to come up with a workaround, but I'd rather not pollute my phone
Using mainly APKPure and APKMirror, I got all my apps back. Some apps throw Play Services error when trying to access some features, but overall they've retained all the functionality that I care about. I was never much of a "digitally connected/synced" person to begin with. I don't like logging into apps left and right or having them store my activity online, so maybe this switch is easier for me than others. I also never really used GMail for anything but Android related stuff, and I stopped using Microsoft/Outlook accounts in favor of Protonmail, once again trying to reduce my reliance on the tech giants.
Can we live without Google if they do not want us?
We can use the best phone without Google
My advise:
install Microsoft New Edge browser to notebook and sign in with your microsoft account. Do the same on P40 Pro. For Install, I use AppGallery, when app is not there I use APKPure. Some apps did not work if I used some other Store.
Install:
OneDrive - not only one of the best cloud drive, with this app you can upload photos to notebook and then forward to google photos from notebook.
Outlook - it can superb handle gmail AND google calendar. I have shared google calendars with my wife and kids. Outlook can do this. I do not know any other app that can do that.
Here we go - Excellent navigation. I have allways used Google Maps. It is the best. Period. But, as I daily drive 300+km, Maps often do not find the address. I then used app Here, wich did the job. We still can use Google Maps App, you only can not sign in to the app. In that case i have browser bookmark at home screen. So, with maps we are good covered. (there are more apps that are great, but this is enough)
Problem is with our Bank Apps.
I have accounts at 2 Banks, I am forced to have two, not big deal. My point here: One Bank work great over my browser. Confirmation number I get to SMS. It is not ideal, but it works.
Another bank use app that produce onetime code. There is not workaround with the browser.
I have solved that another way: my another Huawei (P smart Z). This phone can use GMS. I installed AirDroid to PsmartZ and all APPS that do not work on P40 Pro. Then, I installed AirMirror to P40 Pro. When needed, I can connect to P smart Z from anywhere, use that app and then close the connection.
Apps that do not work:
-Google apps where you have to sign in
-Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator
-SmartRemote Bosch (unbelivable)
-Lidl, Lidl Plus (unbelivable)
-ChargeMap, ABRP
-DEĊ½ - simple but great rain radar picture here in Slovenia
What we need fast is ability to pay wih phone. Huawei must do more here.
But my bank have send me email, they are working on their banking app to work with new Huawei Phones, YESSSS!!
I will write more, I have run out of tint
I still do not understand, why google do not sell GMS online?
Google can not work with Huawei, but can sell software to me, or not?
Outook is really great app. It can sync google contacts!!!!!!
Good to know, If anybody need this.... I DO!!!!!
I posted some of this elsewhere but this feels like a good thread to put useful non GPS info into. I got my P40 Pro yesterday and am hoping to avoid GPS as it seems to be quite a complicated process that does not always stick and needs repeating regularly. Also the opportunity to de-google is actually quite tempting. Here is what I have found so far:
- My Lastpass, PayPal and banking apps work totally fine as before. What is interesting though is I saw some info that said that these work ok if you transfer using Phone Clone but may stop working if you then update them using other sources. I have another droid so will likely manage updates for these by Phone Clone
- Outlook seems to work ok for notifications but I am not sure they come through as regular as they should. I think it would be good to start a list of apps that do not rely on GPS to push notifications. Sadly Newton mail does
- Google photos is the hardest to replace seamlessly, Amazon photos should be a good alternative (if you have prime) but just seems to crash constantly. I have OneDrive but am still considering if I want to carry on using Google photos as my main photo repo, such a shame that DropBox stopped carousel as that was great!
- Chrome actually seems to work, you just cannot login.
If there are any fellow non-GPS people out there shared experiences appreciated!
