Instant on question - Dell Streak 7

This tablet has solid memory, how come it boot up so slow? Is instant on possible, or is this a limitation of android?

No smartphone or tablet is instant on... Except, of course, when just in standby.

Yes but can we at least come close to "instant"? My phone boot up faster than the ds7.

Which phone? My DS7 boots in about 45 seconds or so, which I think is reasonably fast. And why are you turning it off so much anyway?
And of course this is going to be ROM dependent.. I'm using the stock ROM.

I'm not turning it off, but if the tablet boot up faster we can turn it off and save battery life. My LG optimus boot up faster, in about 3 sec..

The LG Optimus 3D boots up in approximately 31 seconds <-- according to several sources in a quick google search..
My DS7, stock ROM, 195 apps.. 42 seconds from first splash screen to lock screen. First time I've bothered to time it, considering I've rebooted the thing about maybe 10 times in the 5 weeks I've had it.
Still don't see anyone completely powering down the tablet on a regular basis unless they absolutely need to save on battery. Mine uses about 1%/hr in standby..

Battery too low to power ON!

Hello all,
I just got home from work, and to my surprise my NC wouldn't wake up, and pressing the power button did nothing. This was extra surprising since it was fully charged when I went to bed last night...
After plugging in the AC adaptor I got a message on the screen saying "Battery too low to power ON. Wait 15 minutes and try again". After about 10 minutes it powered on, and the battery widget said 12%.
Any thoughts on what the heck happened?? Up to this point, it's been working pretty much flawlessly, and only losing a few %s of battery each night.
BTW, it's a rooted 1.0.0 version.
My guess is that you had some process that was sucking up the CPU. I had this happen once with a turn by turn Navigator (obviously not your issue). Of course the power down killed the process and it did not happen again until days later.
What were you running last night? Did you install anything new?

A few apps updated but I didn't install anything new. I'll be keeping a closer eye on it tonight and tomorrow, though.

Do you have a task killer installed? They can sometimes result in strange kill/restart scenarios.
Wallswitcher for me twice has had an error switching wallpapers, and when this happens it pops up a dialog informing me and then proceeds to sit there forever with the screen on. However, in this case I see around 4%/hr usage.
Maybe something similar happened, except with heavier CPU, higher backlight, etc.
I was playing around trying to see what still worked of the original B&N stuff after I rooted and I started the app that reads a book to kids. That app did not turn off when I killed the screen. It drained my battery fast. I don't know if this is just on my NC or others, but it's worth looking at. Check Nook Color Tools/Settings/Battery Use.

Are you referring to the Fava Book Reader or something? Mine doesn't die either. I have to manually kill it and yes, it drains my battery.

Yep! I could not remember the name of the app, but that's it.

phone shuts itself off when high LOAD

it seems to happen only when it gets high load (high app usage..).. when some cpu intensive app is running, 3G is on, etc..
it shuts off (does't restart automatically), and when I turn it on again, the battery meter is always awful lower than before.. it does NOT happen if it's charging or plugged in usb cable..
I've made some tests with it already, before posting:
- it happens with stock kernel and with cocore 6.8 or 6.2 (I think), so I think it doesn't matter the kernel
- it happens with stock ddul? firmware and dxamd1 (pure vanilla), so I think it doesn't matter the rest of the SO
- it ALWAYS happens while stress testing with AnTuTu with less then 80% battery
- it won't happen while charging, no matter what. (AC or USB)
- it happens a lot less if POWER SAVING mode is on... (I think it's because it won't let cpu goes to 1ghz, sucking less energy from battery)
so.. MY verdict is: my battery is failing.. right? have to replace it, right? 13 months of use only... any tests I could do before buying a new one? is there any really trustable site where I can buy a good one? fake battery are ALL AROUND and they SUCK
This is absolutely normal because this is a function of android. It automatically shuts down when the cpu high loads to avoid hardware breaking.

What? so is it normal to turn the phone off IN MY FACE whenever I try open foursquare and instagram at the same time?
it should restart normally.. not shutdown..
it defeats its purpose as a phone when auto shutdown..
I think I'm missing something here.. why are you both saying the phone SHOULD restart or shut off itself? of course it shouldn't. There IS something wrong.
And today, after like 6 consecutives shutdowns, I put it on the charger.. and suddenly from 6% of battery it got to 60% !
I've read about battey discalibration.. and it sometimes fit.. but not the sudden shut off.
I've tried the method of trying to turn it on many times till it can't even display the logo.. (MANY times it displayed the logo, tried to boot, but shut down afterwards).. then I fully recharged it.. boot, recharge, boot, recharge, boot recharge.. but no success..
Whenever the battery is lower than 80%, any heavy app I try to use (like foursquare), it just shut offs in my face. It's like I pulled the battery off!
edit: today it happened again.. the battery was 20%.. I was using it normally.. then suddenly POOF: black screen on my face! When I turned it on again, it said 5% battery.. and 5 seconds after that: black screen on my face!
maybe is there any LOGS about what is going on .. ??????
I don't think it's about the battery. Maybe something's wrong with the device. Try taking it to the service centre.
I wonder if you can provide me a dmesg log?
In Terminal Emulator, you can try:
su
dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.log
"All lights must fade, all hearts return to darkness."
here.. just after a crash.. I turned it on and plugged in usb cable for adb shell ..
I would recommend you completely go back to stock and test. If it does work, you know where the problem lies. If it doesn't, it's time to use your warranty

I downloaded I9070XXLQG_I9070ITVLQ3_ITV.zip and installed via odin (on PDA section).. it seems that nothing has changed..
In "About", every version is XXLQG but it continues to crash if I use it for more than 10-20 minutes (without the charger/usb plugged in)... lol
and I don't have warranty...

don't you think it's "just" the battery? it seems it's not charging enough never.. it says 100% but it doesn't handle the load.. also, is there a way to REALLY reset everything? even a "factory reset" keeps many files on /sdcard.. and "re-partition" on Odin crashes it
ps.: pardon me but don't you think your signature is too big? you waste half the forum's page with it..

I'll try to find someone with S Advance to borrow the battery for 1 day then... maybe it is compatible with other models? ..

it was "swollen".. I thought it was kinda normal to be like that but IT ISN'T. If your battery isn't *completely* FLAT, you'll have to replace it...

I9000 shuts down randomly stock 2.3

Hey Guys, Quick problem My old i9000 randomly shuts down by it;s self, i've flashed back stock rom and stuff but is it the battery or software? any fix? P.S phone is 3 years old now and my dad is using it and he is pissed off.
Probably a hardware problem
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Can you specify better your question:
have you no more problems with the i9000 since you flashed back the stock firmware?
If it's fine now, it might have been only app update: app developers sometimes "forget" one of other older Android version and simple update of any app might cause biggest problems imaginable.
Restoring a nandroid backup and updating apps manually can save you lots of nervs.
Also, how's your battery? Sometimes its a case of needing a new battery

Any new installed app or something??? We need more input :laugh:

Ok, The phone running stock 2.3.4 NO apps installed, not rooted, no custom kernel.
The phone just shuts off randomly while not being used OR sometimes when you click the power button to shut the screen off. Also as a side note, when i plug the phone into charge, it says 100% fully charged 10 seconds later but when you unplug it, it goes back to what ever the charge was before plugging in.
I've tried to describe it in the best way possible, so any ideas?
thanks
I would think a prob with your battery ...can you check that ???

CPU frequency locked at 1.5 GHz after unplugging from power source

Yesterday I found a weird thing, which I have discovered years ago in a Nexus device:
After unplugging, the CPU didn't throttle anymore but got stuck at 1.5 GHz - see the attached screenshot, logged with System Panel 2.
The battery life didn't really suffer so I discovered this only by random when looking into my log history.
There wasn't any app involved, at least I couldn't pin it down to an app. Device didn't get warm either. Bootloader is locked and I have no root (yet).
I made a reboot and then everything went to normal.
From earlier I know there was a bug where CPU got stuck when unplugging the power source while screen off, but I hadn't the time yet to verify this.
Have you experienced this also by any chance?
Hello, is it the same with the last upgrade?

Don't know as I have the update for 2 hours now.
What application are you using to monitor?
Charged to 100%.
Unplugged the charger
Checked cores with cpuz.
All right, all cores on lowest speed.
May be there was some app messing sround in your phone. Reboot might help

I dont have this problem. If I had it, i would loose some battery % like in your graphic and I always loose 2% max battery after unplugging the device and go sleep, so its probably something on your device. But I'll test it today again.
Charged the phone yesterday to 100% with screen off.
Unplugged the charger from the phone still with screen off.
Screen goes automatically on when you unplugged it, so I turned it off and went to sleep
Again, I lost just 1% battery over 8 hours.

nexus shutdowns

I have a Nexus xt1103, but im experience shutdowns when i try to receive the call of telegram and active it. But it shutdown. The same happen to me with the camera on ROMs like lineage and crdroid (both Oreo). So I want to know what could be? If you experience something like this.
Shutdowns are a sign that you need a new battery.
If you are reasonably dexterous, you can replace it yourself.

It's normal that after the shutdown I can turn it on and use normal. For example it shutdown at 30%. After that I turn on the phone and the phone keep having 30% and I can use it while it discharge completely?

Yes, that is the way it is on the Nexus 6. A weak battery can run fine most of the time, but when something demands a lot of power, the voltage drops, and the phone turns off.

@runekock is right. It's your battery which can't deliver the current at spike loads.
Someone should make a thread named 'Sudden shutdown = dead battery' and pin it at the top of every category as every other day someone asks the same.
