What do you mean with ends in JVQ? JVP is older than JVQ you know that!? And JVR is the newer one.. You have flashed JVQ to your phone, why wont you flash JVR to it.. same processes!?
There are good flash tutorials in this forums!

Like I said, although I have owned other smartphones, The Galaxy S is different when it comes to flashing, the JVQ is the when you look at the baseband (in settings/about phone) thingy or do the *# code, the phone, pda and csc end in JVQ, i wanted to know if I can flash a rom which has JVR or JVP at the end, as there is more great roms, i didnt know if it was phone/country specific, or whether it will brick my phone, thanks to anyone who helps me!

Flash whatever rom you want.. as long as it is for an i-9000... and if you get no service flash a modem that works for you.

i got a bell i9000m ugjk4 froyo... now how do i know what roms will work on my phone without messin it up... like what exactly does the ugjk4 mean? can i put different ones on my phone? sorry im a newb at this lol
Hey,
That "ugjk4" is the current firmware version that your are using.
The Bell i9000m is compatible with most roms for the i9000 international and its compatibility (or incompatibility for that matter) is usually discussed in the first post that details the information about the rom.
If you every do flash a rom that is incompatible go to "samfirmwares" and download UGJK4 from their site and reflash through odin.
Let me know if I did not answer your question as you were a little vague.
Happy Modding,
Alex

He isnt talking about flashing modem or CSC?
Also, you will notice I told him to look at the OP for the ROM he is interested in BEFORE he flashes for compatibility issues. I did not say that every ROM will work ok.

I understand what you're saying and have some questions if you don't mind. I've been wracking my brain over searches but haven't come across anything that lays it out clearly.
By way of example, I'm running JPU on my i9000M which changed my product code to "Nordic" and my csc/modem accordingly (which is what I'd expect given that JPU isn't a Canadian firmware). I've since flashed a Canadian modem, changed my product code back to BMC (Bell Canada) and enabled the 850 band. Are there any other changes to be concerned with/aware of given the mixing of pda/phone/csc?
Many thanks in advance.

[q] darky's rom help samsung galaxy s gt-i9000

Ok so im keen on flashing this Darky's ROM because of its proposed battery life and speed compared to stock firmwares. I was wondering if people could give me links or advice as to what else I would need to flash at the same time so that I have optimum coverage for my provider (Optus- Australia). I'm on a stock Optus 2.1 eclair ROM.
Thanks!
Please, do some research instead of just asking questions. We're trying to prevent spamming of the same questions over and over. Look in the developers page, there's plenty of information there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665
I had done some research and had not found any solution specific to my carrier (Optus) apart from installing a Optus Modem. Could you tell me how I would install a Optus Modem?
because of its proposed battery life and speed compared to stock firmwares.
??????????????????????????????????????????
You would need to ask the developer of that rom what you need or read post in the OZ post .
Thats as well as reading Darky FAQs etc.
Better still i can point you to Opus modem in rom kitchin .
Build your own rom .

you dont need to flash an optus modem, however,it is highly recommended that you upgrade to 2.2 through kies or otherwise. other than that, you will need to be rooted with clock work mod. after that , just drag and drop the rom zip in to your phone, download the configuration app from the market and flash from there.
Whenever I flash a new darky version I normally flash his odin ressirection edition then use cwm to flash latest version hope that helps

Welcome to Darky's ROM!

Israeli Galaxy S Owners

There seem to be more and more of us appearing in XDA, and on the streets of Tel Aviv the Galaxy S is appearing almost as often as the iPhone these days...so perhaps it is time for an Israeli thread (similar to the Indian one) where we can share tips and experiences dealing with Pelephone, Cellcom and Orange.
Post and say hello...hopefully we will see 2.3.3 officially here soon so exciting times ahead.
If you are looking for something new to try while we wait, Simone101's Simply Galaxy ROM, based on 2.2.1 features a multi CSC just for Israeli users, so check it out. Always good to support devs who support our own little corner of the Android community.
Haide!
going on to have a big community
Does anyone have a flashable zip file of Pelephone's JJJP3 modem?

I did, they just have the Pelephone firmware as a single tar. All I want is the modem.
the pelephone tar there is not working for me :S....
extract from the tar the modem.bin file
go to romkitchen make an update.zip that have just modem...
paste the modem from the tar to the folder and compress it to zip and flash it through CWM...
and i'm not sure that will help you...

Hmm..that sounds reasonable. If I flash it and it is a bum file in the end, can I just reflash another modem afterwards?
ofcourse... first make a backup...
if you try the a modem from the rom kitchen than change the modem.bin inside and flash it again... just for checking...
i didn't try to change the modem.bin but I flashed modem that i downloaded from the romkitchen...

Excellent....I had downloaded the big single file and then made my own flashable modem, just in case...but it is always good to know I can flash back to vanilla stock if I need to.
If you ever need a flashable multi CSC file for all Israeli providers, check out Simone101's Simply ROM thread, he was kind enough to make one for us.

Some custom ROMS are beginning to appear got 2.3.3, and of course the leaked pre-final stock, but no sign of the official release by Samsung. The new rumor is mid april, maybe.
All I know is I am going to stay with 2.2.1 until the official rom is released, has had time to mature and been put through it's paces by the XDA devs.
Any Israeli user get a kies update yet?

[Q] Reverting back to stock.

Hello,
Recently I updated to doc's mod v11.1, but I want to revert my phone back to stock (just to learn). I want it to be exactly the same as when I received it. I bought my phone on december 2010 so I guess I'll need the Froyo 2.2.1 firmware. Some information:
It needs the European firmware including dutch language.
I need to revert CWM recovery again to stock recovery 2e/3e.
Anyone got some information on this and can give me the required information, because I am having trouble finding it. Like where to find the firmware (I read about samfirmware, but I can't find the appropiate firmware ;/) Thanks in advance!
Tbh information without the files is welcome too. All information is welcome since it can broaden my search. Thanks again

I've got stock kernel in my backups pile... can upload and then you can use it with GS kernel flasher. Can do it preferably by Dropbox.
As for un-rooting (if you want to lol) check out OneClickRoot or something like that by Shortfuse
Hi
Hey bro i read ur thread,, here i have a link to a video from youtube it says step by step how to do it,, ive done it also a few times. you have to make an account to the link that the video points.

hope i helped you
Alright thanks a lot! I'll take a look at the video when I come home.
At ravelair does the stock rom contains Dutch settings etc... or not?

If you just install the stock rom with a wipe u can then choose dutch by language at the beginning. Im also from Dutch so ive done it also
Galaxy S
Alright thanks but can you tell me what version I need from samfirmware?

It depends on which one you want , if you want to go to Froyo then u can choose just the modem u were at, otherwise u can just do the latest European Gingerbread

I have no clue which modem I was on... This is more of a test if my phone ever breaks down I can flash it back to custom and send it in for warranty so... wouldn't really matter ^^ If I flash Froyo or Gingerbread right now I guess... the method is the same just a different file. Anyways what modem do you suggest?
aha okee,, well I use now the latest Gingerbread, it's very fast and stable... and it's officially released in the Netherlands, so you can flash that one
Alright thanks can you provide me with a link since I don't want to flash the wrong image :x. Thanks for all your help!
Dutch: Bedankt man
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Noprobs bro, if you've an account on samfirmware, just log in and choose samsung galaxy s i9000, there you can choose the European version from the beginning till rom 2.3.3 latest
Dutch Geen Dank ahah
Alright thanks. But the guide says I need 3 files... a CSC, PHONE and PDA. I can only find 1 file.. do I need to flash that one without the repartition checked?
hmm, you can flash back to 2.2.1 or JVB that has three files with 512 pit file and repartition, and then after that 2.3.3 jvh without re partition..

I already downloaded a 2.2.1 version and it contains 1 file.. not three... so that's kinda weird... It's 2.2.1 JPY and then I'll flash to doc's rom (which is JPY based) again....
I downloaded this one:
I9000XXJPY ## from this link:http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
Do I need that one or another one? Thanks!
I just found this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686 is this also a legit way to do it ? Thx (by only doing the first section ofcourse)
You can download this one >>http://hotfile.com/dl/114645023/5ea002a/PDA_I9000XWJVB_-_PHONE_I9000XXJVK_-_CSC_I9000XEEJV3.rar.html
it has three files, flash it with 512 pit file plus repartition.
Alright thanks a lot! This just leaves one question will this also turn my ClockWorkMod in to recovery 2e? Or do I still need to do it manually?
Just flash katest K13c speedmod kernel over the JVH modem the latest gingerbread then you have it also rooted and it works fine

What you need is to root from this thread here.
Depending on which FW you have (Like many used JVQ or JVR for 2.3.4) is the file that you need to download. Once you download the correct file that matches your FW, then you flash that file once again in Odin, and you are rooted...
CF-Root is the easiest way to root your Phone.
Yep !!!
and for more info CF-Root indeed is the best tweak in kernel right now!!!
How do I determine which file to flash from that CF Root thread?
flash it with odin, just add the .tar file to PDA. then start

Help! I don't know which file to pick! The filenames confuse me!
First thing: don't panic! It's all rather easy, and you won't easily do something bad! I am personally attentive to use the exact same version as the ROM I am running, but it's not that important.
First, go to Settings -> About phone -> Build number. It should say something like FROYO.xxJPy. It's primarily the JPy that we are interested in. Try to match that with a download link available in this (and the next few) posts. Some of the downloads dont just have JPy file name format, but are called xx_xxx_JPy.
Let me explain that. Samsung isn't always very precise in naming/marking their different (leaked) firmwares. CF-Root's are modified kernels, the filenames explain in more detail which exact firmware ROM the base kernel was taken from, for those experts who understand.
If you are not one of those people, go back to the JPy thing. The "y" in JPy is 0-9, A-Z. If they run out of numbers, they use letters. So A would be 10 (9 + 1), while Z would be 35 (9 + 26). Find the one that is closest to yours, if yours is not present, and flash that one.
The truth is, these kernels, they don't differ all that much. It's quite likely that the very latest version (at time of writing: JPY) will work perfectly fine on your ROM. There are some small differences, but using a different version is unlikely to cause serious issues. The closer the versions are, the less likely there are to be issues, BUT it is still quite possible that the latest version will work better for you than the matching version (or not!).
If you are just installing CF-Root to flash a custom ROM like Darky, make sure you have ROM Manager already installed, ClockworkMod flashed, then simply install the latest CF-Root, reboot once normally, then reboot in recovery and run the Darky update.zip. In this case it does NOT need to be a near match at all!

Sooo based on this i think he cannot use CF-Root, as for some reason he is not running a JPX version. Could be because he is on the Korean SGS
