Memo confirms Iphone5 coming to Sprint? - Off-topic

I know this post has nothing to do with the EVO Supersonic but this is where I hang soo....

I hope this puts Sprint in the black. Sprint in July reported its 15th consecutive quarterly loss.

do you guys have to be d**kwads? or is it just something hardwired into your brain? this is interesting stuff. iphone coming to sprint is epic. I care and so does a lot of people. this would bring tons of buisness to our phone carrier. more business equals more money, more money equals more cell towers, more cell towers equals better reception, better reception equals really awesome 4G. So all in all stop with the whole android and iphone war its old, stupid and childish. they are both really badass smartphones. please grow the f**k up.

While I won't mind having an iPhone along with my EVO. IPhone doesn't mean more money. It's been stated that after the last 4 years anyone who wanted an iPhone switched carriers and has an iPhone. It will create some more money, but when all carriers have the same phone customers will look at the network, sadly sprint right now doesn't have the best network.

read that also and am contemplating getting one to check it out if i don't like it could always sell it

There are those who are totally in love with their precious Apple iphone, they swear by it like it's the best thing since sliced bread. What's even worse is they actually go out and spend the $200-300 to buy their product. It should most definitely be the other way around, Apple should be paying me to use their phone. To sum it all up, I wouldn't touch an iphone with a 10ft pole..... Thanks

Just because it's been stated doesn't mean its true; I, along with many other people I know on sprint & t-mo, are waiting for the iPhone to come to their respective carrier.
Reception in their hometown, plan pricing, and applicable employee discounts clearly override the desire to switch carriers and pay more just to have an iPhone, especially since there are comparable phones to choose from.

True, not everyone leaves their carrier over a phone.

There's two benefits IMO.
1. Some people love the iPhone but would love the iPhone with Sprint's cheaper family plan pricing even better.
2. Hate it or love it, there's not many dumb phone users who'd impulsively upgrade to the $10 premium data fee for an Android or WP7 phone but would for the iPhone.

Yeah.....sprint need a sudden influx of people sucking on an already collapsed straw of bandwidth.
Or maybe you are right. They are just waiting on more customers to justify flipping the switch on decent service.

How would this bring tons of business to you carrier? Do you not know the track record of the iPhone? The only thing Sprint has going for it is good android devices and unlimited plan. Let's all guess which of those will disappear if iPhone comes to Sprint. At&t and Verizon has both lost one of these two.....Sprint customers will get the iPhone when Verizon buys them after at&t and t- mobile deal goes through. Wecome to big red.

Isn't this similar to the ESN policy that has been in place on CDMA carriers for years. Except you can get around a bad ESN by using it on another carrier. I don't see the issue its similar to the VIN system cars use.

BS! More power to them. AT&T has an inherent duty to not activate the phone if they know it is stolen. Furthermore they have a duty to call the police when they run across one. Then let the police handle the matter from there.
Pawn shops are not allowed to buy merchandise they know is stolen. Why should AT&T be allowed to profit off of phones they know are stolen? And they profit twice. From the stolen cell subscription AND the sale of a replacement phone.
And the analogy from another post about atm's is bs also.

Yeah exactly. That casino comparison is pretty wrong. A real comparison is:
I went to the Casino, got mugged and robbed right in front of the casino's security camera's. They have video evidence of the guy that mugged me, yet they are sitting on their hands saying "sorry not our problem. but we'll ban that guy from coming back to our casino's, if that makes you feel better."
Now THAT's a true comparison to what AT&T would be doing in this situation. And yes, it's bull****.
Eh, re-read the article. I guess my comparison isn't that great either. It's just a bad situation either way.

is there a law requiring phone carriers to block stolen phones?
maybe you should blame the phone manufacturers. on my old sony ux280p 4.5" UMPC, i can put a password to enter bios or put a password on the hard drive.
No law that I know of. Seriously, the iphone folks need to get over it. The phone was stolen, probably had NO security installed on it and no insurance. The butthurt flows too well in the iphone camp. Decent enough device, way too rabid fan base. Although the same could be said for any OS.

[slaps forehead] What difference does it make if it was an iPhone or no insurance? This will help all phone owners, not just iPhone owners.
And I am sure there are laws against it. But they are at the state level. And AT&T can turn a blind eye by saying "we don't track stolen phones". But this will force a centralized database where they will have no excuse now.
No carrier tracks stolen phones. They may restrict a particular device from being activated, that's it. If you have a hot device like the iPhone, etc. You should put some form of security on it yourself. It really is not the providers job to watch over your physical phone. The contracts are a promise to maintain service for a set period of time. For loss/stolen insurance, which is optional.
All this applies to u.s. carriers only. The other countries may have different rules.

Many years ago, over on the sensible side of the pond, as people were getting their phones stolen so much (this was before smartphones too) to be used with new sims, our government had the bright idea to force providers to block the handsets once reported stolen.
It had a significant impact on the theft of phones.
One might say such action is logical, but then, I am on this side of the pond

anyone else flip phones on craigslist?

lol i do.
yesterday i needed some quick cash because of a move im doing and i was short on my energy bill...
so i put my sprint galaxy nexus on craigslist for sale/ trade.
last week i got it new in the box for 150. a deal to me for sure.
i got a bunch of crap offers but eventually someone offered me their epic 4g touch and 100 cash for the gnex.
so we met up at a sprint store and called customer care because the store cannot do active phone swaps and we both went home happy.
right away i listed the phone on craigslist, within a few hours i got a few offers, mostly junk but one was or seemed to be worth while.
a white iphone 4 8gb, with case and charger, even trade. so telling her i was interested i posted the white iphone up on craigslist also forsale/trade before i even had it. i got many offers, a few low balls (lol even 50 dollars with the excuse that its outdated and old and the new iphone will be out this month lol), then a 225.00 offer, a 200 dollar offer, you get the idea. i entertained them all, but one of the guys ended up changing their minds and made a even better offer, he retracted his 200 dollar offer and said he would trade me his mint condition epic 4g touch with case, charger and 100 cash... BINGO lol, i quickly accepted.
how could i loose, i met up with the girl at 615pm to do the swap for my epic touch for her iphone 4, after thats done i wait for the guy who comes at 7 and we call sprint all over again and do another swap, it all works out and i leave with another 100 in cash and the same phone i came in with lol.
so i was tainted with a apple phone for about 10 mins... Lol it wasn't that bad but the screen was hard to adjust to.
anyone else flip on craigs? needless to say i have my epic back up on CL for hopefully another trade or sale.
i already got my epic touch running jellybean and honestly its not too much different then my gnex minus the lte which i dont have yet and the HD screen which is noticeable to me.
Seems kind of immoral to me. It's like abusing Wal-Mart return policies to make a buck. You're using Craigslist outside of its intended use for profit. But you do what you gotta do to make the bills work: I personally would not make a habit of "flipping phones".

lol immoral?
im using a public website that is made for buying, selling, and bartering.
thats exactly what im doing.
im not "abusing" or misusing anything, and its not a mega corporation where im scamming their return policies.
its a buy sell and trade website..
thats exactly what im doing.
in fact there are reality tv shows based on this same thing, that where they use outlets like craigslist, people do it with everything under the sun, from tvs, to cars.
im not ripping anyone off or telling people things that they arent.
im giving people what they want and im getting what i want.
exactly what the website is for.
When you start to talk about morality, you instantly are entering into a subjective paradigm in the philosophical/metaphysical sense. However, I do agree you're in a way taking advantage of peoples lack of knowledge on the tech you're trading. Is this immoral? Depends on how you define it. If both parties are happy and walk away from the deal feeling like their was an equitable exchange, then I personally don't think so. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Now, if you intentionally mislead the other party into believing they're getting a much better offer than they realize for your profit then yes this is, to me, immoral, but I don't think your doing this. It is the reason I believe the majority of advertisements and those working in the field are in some sense immoral, but this is getting off topic.
In short, I haven't done it and for me the amount of time and effort isn't worth the small return.
I didn't mean to imply you're ripping anyone off. I just find it interesting how one can make a buck nowadays. I stress the kind of part because I read about the iphone part and it boggles my mind how people are willing to pay so much for so little. I get that if the needs are met then it's fine. However it boggles me further how people can conclude the iphone 4 and the galaxy s2 phone is of equal value. Galaxy s2 clearly has better specs plus MIUI more than makes up for the iOS experience. I get that not everyone is gifted with our passion which is why I use the term "immoral" for someone who knowingly barters with this information in hand. But I do agree with l3lessed that if the girl is happy then that's what matters. Then I conclude that while the ends justifies the means this time, I wouldn't make a habit of this kind of business.
That said: I'm sure you can many people in the MP that has "flipped phone".

I was just short this month and this way its legal Lol
Everyone was happy. In fact all the deals I did were brought to me, made by the other party.
I agree the iPhone to me isn't worth much but as everyone can see they have a huge faithful following, enough so to dump more premium phones (in our eyes) in order to have one.
Locally regular iPhone 4 non s versions are still selling more than galaxy s2s.
Its mind boggling to me actually.

I flip phones all the time. If i find a great deal then i will most definitely snatch it up. One thing I never do is low ball. I always offer them a fair price that's low enough for me to make a profit, yet sits well with conscience. Business on Craigslist is easy money if you can negotiate.

I can't see the immorality in his actions. He's entertaining offers from others and not misrepresenting his goods. If anything, I'm impressed by the fact that youre arranging Craigslist deals in advance and juggling it all. You should get into stocks or futures or something and make real money with your talents.
It's not immoral, nothing wrong with it.
I have done that once or twice, it's how I get "new phones for free" but honestly it takes too much time/effort/driving and to me is not really worth it. I do it like once a year to upgrade my phone but that's about it. It's not a bad way to get a decent device though, just be willing to put up with all the BS that goes along with it.
I actually prefer the MP here for the most part, except for a few items that are overpriced here that I want to buy or underpriced (compared to local prices) that I want to sell.

Low ballers make me sick, but that's just a part of Craigslist.
Its not hard to do,but can be time consuming and irritating when you run into tire kickers and people who bs.
Throughout all the years I've used Craigslist for everything under the sun, from TVs,to fish tanks,to cars, refrigerators and probably other things I can't recall. But I've never have had one bad experience, never been robbed or put into any bad situations.

If they want quick cash and I'm willing to buy, so be it. I take the time to relist the item and sit on it for a few days, a week, hell I've sat on an item for 3 months! It's all about time and effort. Here in NJ, there are really good deals. Business is just business.

I made money on craigslist this pass week. I just sold my GS3 for $400 (which I bought new for $440 on eBAY) and with the money I bought a white EVO LTE in mint condition for $225 which I sold on Ebay for $340 ($300 after fees and ship).

I made some additional moves on Craigs list recently which I didn't post about.
I traded my gs2 for a white 16gb 4s which in return i traded for a new in the box black evo lte.
Sad to say I'm surprised that the resale value on these phones aren't higher, because the lte is not too much different than the gs3...

Why Teens Don't Need a Smartphone

Smartphones are super expensive and my teen has been begging me to get him one. I know that the only thing he might actually do with it just access facebook and twitter and just play some stupid games.
Don't buy your teen a smartphone.
Here's an article that gives you a list of reasons to say NO to your teen:

Don't be so quick to think that way. First of all, the article's only argument is that the price is high, and it is cheaper to use Facebook and twitter from home. In addition, it even states an argument against itself (I like it because the author is not biased) which says the teen years are a memorable time and the convenient camera captures those memories.
So basically, buy a Galaxy Nexus off contract (~$270), activate it on a cheap prepaid plan, and blam! You don't even need to get data, just have him connect to WiFi.
In fact, you can even just get an unlocked Nexus S (~$130) or Galaxy S (~$100) and they should fit his needs enough.
The article pertains to on contract high end phones (specifically an iPhone 5), but you can greatly reduce the price by buying a previous flagship and use a prepaid plan.

Don't be so quick to think that way. First of all, the article's only argument is that the price is high, and it is cheaper to use Facebook and twitter from home. In addition, it even states an argument against itself (I like it because the author is not biased) which says the teen years are a memorable time and the convenient camera captures those memories.

True but teens fall into peer pressure and the iPhone is the greatest status symbol.
It might just be cheaper to get the iPhone 5 unlocked...but $650 to fish out is a lot of money..considering you could buy a full fledged laptop in that same amount...or an HD LED TV from Sony.

Yep, so don't get him an iPhone 5. Or any iPhail for that matter.
Like I said, there's still the Galaxy Nexus which is pretty good as it is, and for your sons needs even a Galaxy S or Nexus S would be enough. Dirt cheap now that they are 2 years old, but solid performers. Plenty development, so (if it even matters to him) he will have the latest version of Android running on it.
I agree, peer pressure is definitely a factor, but getting an Android stands out among all the iPhones I see in teens' hands these days

I wouldn't buy my child a smartphone until they're 15 or older, so many kids text during class now, no wonder kids are less educated than when I went to school.
Well, brace yourselves, here comes a 16 year olds opinion. What my dad did was get me a plan, but I had to buy the phone. It was great because it taught me some responsibility and gave me some leeway. Please don't lock your kid down from having a social life, also don't let him buy an iPhone. And yes, this nexus 4 was paid for in while by me. As where my previous 3 phones.

Well, the thing is even dumb phones can text, so in order to prevent that you need to not let your child have a phone at all.
Or just good parenting

Let me tell you one thing. When I was in hs we all had blackberries and iphones 3g. Yes there were those kid who were into drama and stuff and non stop texting and they don't learn anything but there good uses for 15 year old to have a cell.
Although I don't condone cheating Google the answer to capital of new York is better than guessing a wrong answer because you'll know and remember rather than go on not knowing.
The other is for communication. Especially after what happened in Connecticut you child needs to call out or if they go out and get peer pressured to do something bad, they can call a friend to come or call you to pick them up before they are guilty by association.
Last reason is that bullying. We want the best phones and kid like to make fun of others who are less fortunate then they are. When you get older you view being bullying differently but could be devastating for a teen who hasn't experienced the adult world.
Smartphone for teen. Lab top or PC. Yes
Tablet and brand new car. Get a job!

The Nexus S is not going to get the Key Lime Pie update...
Without updates, its going to go out of style very fast. Galaxy Nexus is still a solid buy
Buddy you'll be shocked that lots of decent developers here on xda-developers are teen. I myself started symbian development at the age of 17. So I think it's best not to generalize teens.
I had to pay for my first smartphone and Plan. The only thing I had was a "dumb phone" and it was for 911 only. So any teen who thinks getting a smartphone is in the bill of rights, need's to get a job. ( If want to give them one as a gift, because they did well or what ever ok.) But Don't make them think for one sec it's a right to have a free smartphone+plan.
That's all I have to say.
If they work for it that is great, but if a teenager wants something enough they can make money to get it

Learn the magic of ROMs, boy. The Nexus S didn't even get the 4.2 update, but voila! A few days after the N4 was released, 4.2 ROM!
Also, if your kid isn't really like the teens on xda, he probably won't know or care about software updates.

As a 15 year old teen, I'd say that, by a side, it does indeed can get in the way of school. Sometimes I get distracted with it instead of studing (at home). But, on another side, I see it as my tool to do a lot of things during my day. I listen to music with it, I often access my school website for grading check (hard to explain my school grade method) during classes with data (no WiFi access to students), I write all my tests, control my classes with it, takes notes, be related to school or not, it's also my communtication tool. And many other things not mentioned...

I agree with you completely mate. It teaches teens about financial responsibility. It also shows them that they are not entitled to a smartphone but rather something that is earned.
Good luck mate

Tell your son that. Let him choose the plan and the phone as long as he pays for it. You will have to make sure he doesn't get some crap China phone that'll break in a day, but otherwise it's all up to him to find the best deals etc.
Good luck to you, lol aren't you the OP who are you saying good luck to

Exactly. A phone basically should have thing in mine, to get in contact with some1 when they are doing a lot of work. Something was when I first got a job, my parents got me a phone so I could makes calls when I wasn't in school.
Since upgrading to a smartphone, its more than just a phone, you can access the internet with it and it can be a huge distraction, but its so much better then most phones out there.
To give your son a smartphone is a big resposibility, but something I learned is you gotta work to earn it, cant just give it for no work. f he has good grades and shows responsibility with it, then he deserves it. If he starts to show hes slacking behind, then its trouble

Dam.
You must not take a lot of notes cause I am sure you could write much faster than typing on that tiny keyboard.
I bought my teenage daughter a cheap laptop. Put k9 browser on it, an old refurbed iPod 2nd Gen and locked the iTunes store and safari, and then put k9 on it too. She has a dumb phone to call in emergencies and text her friends with. The locks at 8pm and if I see that her grades are slipping the phone and iPod become mine again. If I see she is spending all her time in front of a TV or computer theybget turned off and she goes outside.
That being said she is in Beta club. Gets A's and B's and has as much of a social life as she needs. She also won her class's physical fitness award. The place I spoil her is I let her do some name brand shopping for clothes. As long as I approve.
All in all we have our disagreements but she "gets by" lol.

HTC One 5 million sold!

After hearing all the bad news about execs leaving HTC because the companys not doing well etc, etc!
Thought it's time for some good news:
HTC is close to 5 Million units sold (Shipped to carrier's) thats 50% of what Samsung claims.
The fact that HTC is having shortages is proof that those #'s are mostly in consumer's hands rather than retailers.

HTC, pretty much all they have is the One, since First was a utter flop (whodathunkit?!)

...yet.
This is still in the rumor mill. And it really does sound like it's gonna happen. They may not have released it to Verizon right yet because the demand would crush any opportunity of them meeting it. That being said, next month when the component providers kick up their orders, and HTC starts getting more produced, it's going to explode when it's been predicted to be released on Verizon. This will be huge.

If they give Verizon one with an SD slot..
..omg, I'm going to be so pissed. Not only would they be kicking dirt in the face of the other users but completely prove themselves to be liars about the "not enough room" crap.
They would have such a gigantic **** storm. I'm sure they'd get **** if they got a 64GB version though..
...be careful how you announce the Verizon version, HTC. All I'm saying.

S4 also has way more advertising and they bash apple in their ads. HTC just needs to kick up their advertising and promotions like Samsung has.
The s2 is a horrible device and I still get customers coming in asking for it because Samsung is advertising it still. I have to spend extra time to convence the customers that signing a 2 year agreement on the s2 is a terrible idea.

Supply and demand, Verizon should just announce it already. Remember the long lines Apple releases first created. It would be great if an HTC device could drive the same traffic to stores. If Verizon releases and says quantities are limited it very well could cause great success with a limited supply should the current devices in the market on other carriers (like the one I have on Sprint) continue to amaze everyone I show.

No, android fans are smarter than that. There are better ways of getting a bleeding edge device than sleeping on concrete at the stores doorstep.

well it isn't true its an opinion. As for the Iphone 6 having an ext SD, good luck with that.
If you're always going to be looking at the next flagship release then you will never buy any phone at all.
All I can say is see what the money you have spare can get you WHEN you need it.
I had a good price after bargaining with two operators and ain't complaining.
At the end of the day it is just electronic gadget that's gonna brake eventually. It is not like buying a house for 250 000 or getting married.

THIS! Was just about to post the same exact thing, if you keep waiting around and listening to all the rumors you'll be stuck with the phone you have now forever!
The iPhone 5S was already obsolete on features 2 years before they released the thing, And I can confidently say the iPhone 6 is already outdated because we all know they give you nothing unless they already developed a way to massively overcharge for it.
I just had to waste my time to reply. Every piece of tech is obsolete the second it come out but at least I'm not holding on to an even older complaining about a better phone and thank god I'm not waiting for the iPhone 6, which has been under development so long I can't possibly imagine how it can stand up to the note 4 or s6. Lol trolls are so dumb.

LOL!!! EVERY iphone has been 2 years obsolete when they are released.. That's like their entire mantra because it makes the Jobs-knob-hobbing rubes foam at the mouth for the next big feature that will be obsolete when it comes out. Case-in-point.. the OG iphone was EDGE, not 3G - only a total MORON would design a web-centric, data-intensive phone to use one of the worst data networks in the country.. The 3G was 3G but didn't have video capabilities (which were standard on every other phone released for AT LEAST two years prior), you had to buy the 3GS. It's all part of the marketing scheme.
You see, in a securely guarded vault deep inside apple headquarters is the ultimate iphone that was designed late in 2005. It is IP99 certified, has a 4.8" 8K parallax 3D screen, 512GB of internal storage, dual 3D 4K cameras, a removable extended battery with NFC and Qi, dual SD card slots, yadda yadda yadda. They took that model and stripped it all down to barebones, and released it as the OG iphone. They're simply adding a couple features back each year and releasing "the NEW IPHONE", which makes all the fanboys jizz their collective pants as they line up like idiots to pay the ridiculously inflated price for it.
