Received Soak Test Invite - Motorola Droid 3

I just received a soak test invite from Motorola Owner's Forum...
I'm rooted and have installed the current LEAKED OTA update (which is running nicely, I might say)...
Should I complete the form to volunteer for the soak test?
Here's one of the last pages of the questionnaire. On a prior page I had to give them my HEX MEID in order to receive the update:

Any advice on whether I should proceed or not? And, if so, should I be honest about the rooting or nervous that I already have a version of their OTA?
I can unroot and restore to stock file condition, but not the system version.
Thanks!

I'd say for the safety of your device i'd be straightforward about root.

I'm leaning that direction...
I still have the registration window up... I'm afraid a cookie session will expire... I was crossing my fingers I'd get a quick reply. I think if I keep going back to the previous page I can keep the session alive... I'd like to get a consensus though... Odds are they've patched the root exploit, huh?

Eh, maybe. Sometimes the process is so far in the making it could be quite a bit before they would patch that.
I'm sure you'd still get in - they always like to have a certain amount of power users for these things for testing.

We will have root again if this soak has patched it, it just a matter of time. Plus we can't flash roms yet anyways.

I backed out... didn't feel the need to be a guinea pig... I'll wait for a custom bootstrap and custom roms/updates.... My D3 is working great as it is.

Looks like im going back to stock tonight cause I just signed up for the soak test yesterday. If I was u I would just ignore the soak test till someone can get a .sbf soon or a update.zip of the soak.

I would say that you have rooted and you'll return to stock. I would then clean up /system but not unroot. When the update came down, I would pull it off the device and post it to these here boards.
Well, that's what I would do.

Yeah, I thought about that... but I didn't want to risk an unrootable phone or something worse... I'm sure they're many other members who'll get it.

I haven't received an invitation yet, hope I do tho. Signed up for it on july 8th.

+1 if u installed the leaked update from earlier then there's really no way to get back to stock is there? So u might as well try to get a new leak out.

Is root really so bad? Isn't moto actually looking for those who root now? Who knows, now that Googorola is the business root may not be so bad. They even state they are looking for those who root or modify the D3. Sadly that can be taken in 2 different ways, but does it always have to be the bad one with moto?
I understand moto can be crooked when it comes to other providers (Tmobile and the cliq), but verizon and moto are the best pair when it comes to getting a powerful phone with fairly good support.

In the form to accept the soak test it specifically states that if your phone is rooted that you need to unroot it and restore stock apks or the installation will fail or brick. It doesn't say that you can't root, it just says that if you claim your phone is rooted that you will not be a priority to receive the soak because they feel the need to explain how to restore the phone to stock, which takes them more time to receive feedback. So I just said I had not rooted the phone, I don't plan to flash it until I know it's safe for me anyways. I just want to try and get it to someone who might be able to derive some information from it.

Caution
Signing up for the soak test may not be such a good idea...

I got the invite too so we will see what happens. With the d2 soak the other week it took a week to get anything on my wifes phone so I think we will be waiting a while.

If the soak is truly the 5.6.890, then it might be.

I'd say it would be or with very few minor additons, i'd like to think moto wouldn't go out of their way; spend extra time, money and resource patching stuff up for a beta test.
There’s a non vendor stock build (non-VZW) with out the bootloader lock downs and exploit patches running around at Moto somewhere waiting to be found.

When will we see Official Android 2.2 update ?

Just was wondering if we will see the official release this week. I have two
EPE54B Nexus ones. Cant wait to see the official update.
Please use the search feature. There are a lot of posts that talk about this.
I've read all the threads just havent seen any updates. And I also know I can run the update.zip on my EPE54B Nexus Ones its just to buggy right now.
I've been running the "test" froyo on my nexus since the day it was on xda. I hated loosing my beloved cm rom, but the switch was so worth it. As far as buggy, I have yet to hit any real issues, just better battery life & speed. Only annoyance is the few apps that have problems. Froyo updates are rolling out every day for those though. So until the source code is dropped, & cyanogen gets ahold of it. I'm loving this version of froyo.

Guess we will never get it. LOL

Tomorrow. No really, tomorrow. You have to make a thread about it or Google wont release it.
Well to be honest I havent found any Official Android 2.2 update threads. The only one I found is Froyo leaked or Official we all know its a test release.
Also there is nothing wrong with starting a new thread I've done my reserch on the update and just though people could voice some opinions.
You should flash the test version. I'm usually very anxious when updates are looming but I could wait another couple of months after flashing the test update. I have some issues but very very minor, go for it OP, you'll probably forget all about the official update. Ok not really but it helps alot
Google annouced at the IO conference to expect the update at the beginning of June, the beginning of June is tomorrow. Patience is a virtue
I might give the Test update a try my wife has the Nexus with the unlocked bootloader so I would have to either put it on hers or unlock the virgin Nexus that I have. I have Cm on hers and she loves so unless I de virginize mine I'll just have to wait for the official update.
So wait..... no one else got it? I updated last night!

[Q] Droid 3 ROOT vs XT860

Good day to all,
Does anybody here think that the root access method found by djrbliss in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234510 would work on Bell's Motorola XT860 4G ?
I'm pretty sure that, to the core, it is the same hardware with a different radio chipset... nothing like what the original DROID was compared to the Milestone in terms of hardware.
I currently own one that I unlocked and use on TELUS, and I must say that it is a very nice upgrade from the Milestone... it just needs root access so I can restore all those Titanium backups !!!
Share your thoughts.
EDIT : Used the following method, worked flawlessly on my XT860. http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=3714
Enjoy !
I'm interested in this too, as I'll probably be getting the XT860 for usage in europe
As per Team Black Hat, all current Motorolas running Gingerbread are vulnerable to this exploit. XT860 isn't an exception. I will likely root mine shortly (busy right now).

I just ran the root program on my XT860 from rootzwiki forums, and the process went through with no problems. Not sure if it actually worked, checking it out now.
Edit: Confirmed the root is working for the XT860. Yayyyyy.
Wow
There's no word to describe how awesome this new is.

Yes, it worked, as expected. Glad we have root now. But be careful - without SBF, we have no secure way out of screw ups, plus altering stuff in /system will prevent us from getting updates. And with the totally broken camera I expect Motorola very soon to come up with one. They will likely break the vulnerability we use too. CWM is the next thing to look on now, as it will be the only way to update preserving root.
Lack of SBF is bothering me...

On another subject, what's wrong with your camera ?
Most Droid 3 cameras look blueish. I've heard a few people complain about how slow/buggy the app is (crashes).
I personally haven't had a problem with it...

Are you trying to say your's not taking blueish pics?? It is not only D3, but the Canadian XT860 is doing exactly the same thing. Unless I use 3rd party camera software that allows adjusting the white balance, everything comes out saturated with blue.
Also - how's the location tag working on yours - everyone so far confirmed pictures are stored with wrong location tag. Your's snaps normal pics and proper location tags? Maybe you run newer software?
I've not taken a "lot" of pics, but mine haven't been overly bluish, i'll admit.
I don't have location tags or services turned on whatsoever. I prefer to remain... anonymous? *chuckle*
It is a personal matter more. Here is a small example where differences can be seen:
1) Motorola XT860 with Moto camera:

}
2) Motorola Droid 2 Global (my old phone, which has far from perfect camera, but colors reproduction is not as bad):
The two shots have been taken seconds one after other - same lighting conditions.
Geo-tagging for those who use it is broken on the D3
Sorry for going off-topic - lets get back on topic - I have no doubt Motorola will be releasing an update, rather soon, that addresses the camera issues and given the root power, it is not difficult to mess up the phone and not being able to update it, given the fact there is no easy way back (SBF).
So - bottom line - be careful with the "new power"
Here a video taken from my XT860. I uploaded it from my phone and I hope it kept its original format.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPiAUKpfPn0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
You can clearly see the cool blue tint. In my opinion there should be some white balance option in the camera app but there is none.

I can also confirm that the exploit works flawlessly on the XT860, and can reaffirm the caution for playing around too much. I've messed up my contacts and can't recover it, since I relied on Titanium for backing up my system apps (oops).

Carrier IQ?

Does anybody know if the Thrill roms, have CIQ?
as many of you know CIQ, can track everything about your device,
and i mean EVERYTHING, so i was just wondering if anybody knows if the Thrill roms being develop here have CIQ in them.
As I understand this only comes in the HTC Sense UI

iv read through the news, the thing lives in kernel. Sense and Touchwiz and others may have active carrier IQ parts in them for better tracking...

make sure to back up and read up before you remove it. the att version seems to be required to let the phone run on the stock rooted rom. i just bricked mine after removing it. And to kick me while i'm down, it wont boot into cwm so i can recover my phone. sh*t sucks.

With battery removed hold vol up button and plug phone into computer. You should see a few things installing. Your phone will not actually turn on the way you know it is worlkng is by the fact it connects to the computer. You may need to download a few drivers from the baseband flash tutorial first. Once everything is installed correctly you should be able to install a kdz. That might fix you up.
Is it safe to assume since the Doomed Froyo rom offers a custom kernel then it might be CarrierIQ free? Shouldn't this be a standard request on all new roms in the future?

No I never tried to even look for it. Mech said that removing it made his phone completely unbootable so removing it may prove more difficult than just erasing something.

Yeah I am double posting
Carrier IQ doesn't really matter anyway. Your carrier sees and stores everything you do with or without it. Everything you do goes through your carrier first so if you think removing carrier iq does anythjng to protect your privacy you are sorely mistaken
Oh one thing you can be happy about is ATT only keeps your texts and call records for 5-6 years.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
Not sure, but if this in the init.rc is what I think it is, I'm going to strip it in Thrillz kernel V3.
Code:
LGE_CHANGE_S [CIQ] 2010-10-21 : adapting patch files
service iqmsd /system/bin/iqmsd
# user system
disabled
on property:service.iq.active=1
start iqmsd
on property:service.iq.active=0
stop iqmsd
# LGE_CHANGE_E [CIQ]
Though Urabewe has a point... If the carriers want the info, they can put it in the Ts&Cs, and skim the info anyways......
Your location, texts, calls, where you made the call from and more are all stored on your carriers servers automatically whether your phone has ciq or not. There is no getting around it and, get your tin foil hats out, the feds DO NOT NEED A WARRANT TO RETRIEVE THIS INFO. THANK YOU MR. BUSH FOR THE PATRIOT ACT

I couldn't agree more. It's one of the worst pieces of legislation ever made. It's insulting to those who actually like this country to call it the "Patriot act". Just sickening. Welcome to the USSA.
More on-topic, I wonder exactly what it takes to neuter ciq? I know that the phone company has all my txts and phone calls and can sniff packets for all my data usage, but ciq is FAR more insidious than that. It allows keyboard logging. This means that they can have the user id and password for anything that I've logged into from this phone. Granted, I have nothing to hide, but I feel that it is my right to hide it anyways. To be secure in my private papers and effects, etc.
I guess I'm really glad that I hadn't gotten around to porting truecrypt for android yet. It would be completely pointless if there's a keylogger on the machine.

I have more proof.

My results from 4 CarrierIQ detectors. I'm running DoomedFroyo V1.0.1
I got 3 yes, 1 no:
Voodoo Detector-Yes
Kintoo Detector-Yes
Bitdefender Detector-No
Lookout Mobile Security Detector-Yes
I would love to test the new kernel wit ciq removed. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws, but could this crapware be.part of our battery issues?
For what it's worth, I know that the carriers have all my text and call data and can sniff packets. It's a stretch to say I'm okay with it, but there's not much I can do. A keyboard logger, however, is TOTALLY NOT ACCEPTABLE. In addition to that, I am not okay with carriers sending snooping data about me over a metered connection that I pay for. Hell no. Spend your own resources on spying, at&t. Not mine!

Why is everybody looking for proof when it is sitting right there in running services?
I disabled it by tapping on it and it did not show up in services again for over 10 hours. So I powered down the phone and voila, it is back. Not sure if disabling really disables as I am not set up to log anything to my computer.

Its a nice phone indeed. All of them were. If its like sprints g4 only lolllipop was rootable and quickly did they implement anti rollback. So root died fast. I had one of the few orig g4s no bootloop rooted. I dropped it and crack led the mb. It works for another 6 months before finally dying.
I always tell everyone. Buy online unlockable. I think eventually one day root will be achieved. But may be 2 3 4 years down the road. Ive see unrootables from 2012 2013 just barely getting root. So i believe one day root will be achieved but we will have done moved on
Pretty sure the US unlocked version is on sale on NewEgg for $250. Rooted and bootloader unlockable.

It doesn't seem like they could or really have the time to worry about it with all the problems currently. Also, with a bit of a bad stigma, do you think they will sweeten any deals to get people to buy these former bombs. Personally I love that Samsung is taking a hit and getting knocked down a peg. I still love these phone but all of the sudden the 1% rooting community has a little bigger effect on sales.
That tiny routing community... against the fees they can make from Samsung Pay. Think about it.

There are August and September Android security patches that the Note 7 didn't get. Anyone short of a Samsung project engineer that thinks they can answer that question is probably full of it.
I think a lot would have to change to make the kernel leak not work. And yes , I don't think Samsung will care about us tweakers still but I still like war ching Samsung squirm just a little.
I think the real question is will Samsung be updating this phone at all or will it become the unwanted step child

We were promised Nougat. Samsung has pissed enough people off with the battery issue. Let them deny us that.

No I haven't took the update. I'll let somebody else be brave and try that one. Hopefully jovy puts out an updated rom with the new firmware.
The new update is not rootable and you won't be able to go back to PGC if you take the update. If you really want root i advise you to NOT let the rep power on/ setup your phone.....it will likely grab the update and you'll be doomed. Best practice: Do not place sim in device OR connect to wifi Until you have root.

A little extreme lol... The update is 400mb so on LTE that will still take a bit to download, which you have the option to pause for quite a while (this is what I did while I rooted it). You just need to pay attention to the phone.

Tell that to the people that got the update without knowing it....and the others that think their phone shipped already updated because it happened so quickly. I'd rather be safe than sorry....ymmv
***Also "will take a bit to download" ?? ROFL
I see speeds of 25-65 Mbps @ 65Mbps the file takes about 45 seconds to download fyi...

Yup you'll lose Samsung Pay, Secure Folder and SHealth (if you update SHealth after rooting)
