Just wondering if anyone else is thinking about going to the Droid 4 , and why? I am actually very happy with my Droid 3 but am still considering upgrading for the 4g.

Not me. I'm sticking to my policy of never spending more than $50 which is why I just recently got ,my droid 3 brand new with my two year renewal. Got my wife's free with her renewal a week later. So in two more years will get a Droid 5 or 6 or whatever is the 6 month old but already EOL phone for $50 or less. By the way, the phones we upgraded from were Droid 1's that we got 2 for $99.
Droid 3 is good for me
Yep I got mine for a penny and the idea of spending 199 plus accessories just doesn't seem worth it. I'm not a power user and actually had a razr and turned it in to best buy because the battery life on 4g is terrible , and was having trouble dropping data when 3g 4g was switching. So far D3 has had no trouble. Probably just gonna buy a car dock and save the money. Thanks for the input.

I'm gonna get it because I can afford it.
Why? Because it is newer, better, cooler.
Most ppl can't afford to keep up with tech,
most ppl don't NEED the latest and greatest..

Yes, I also have D1 and D3. The D3 actually replaced the D1. I'm thinking about putting the D1 on ebay. Its rooted and overclocks easily and is running the latest CM7 release. I'm betting I can get back the $50 I spent on the Droid 3 from someone who wants a phone that is easy to tinker with.

I've had a D1,D2, and D3. My favorite is still the D2. I switched to the D3 for the keyboard. Performance wise, D2 on cm7 and D3 on debloated are about the same. I'm not a power user, so battery life doesn't matter to me too much as long as I can get a full day.
Also, My D2 is really a MS2, but its the same thing.
The Droid 4 is basically the Droid 3 without the "chin", plus 0.2ghz, which is going to be doable in a very short time (I hope =P) and more ram (ok, this is nice). Keyboard and camera are the same. Not quite a great upgrade.

I too like the D2 or MS2 better than the D3, I think I was more used of it, but my MS2 found a wild toalette and died.

Guess I'll think about it but will try ebay first.
Anyone call Verizon trying to get a free or discounted droid 4 yet because of the early release?

You mean plastic backing - right? And water repellent. Definitely won't survive submerging.
I also have all of them - D1 - (MS1 actually), Droid 2 (Global) and Droid 3 (XT860 4G to be precise). My favorite still seem to be the D2G. D3 was a disappointment mostly due to 1/2G ram and (for me) the pentile screen.
D4 seems well balanced phone - I like the look. They fixed the RAM issue, but left screen the same as on D3 (major let down!) At least they could have placed the screen from ATRIX2!
Verizon 4GLTE does nothing for me since I am not in US 99% of the time.
Judging from the reviews, phone seem to move quite smooth thanks to the expanded memory.
Bottomline - if they release HSPA/LTE variant that works with Canadian operators, I will consider it.
Just got the Droid 4. Came over from sprint. I had an epic 4g. Sprints service was not the best but from everyone i have talked to and everything that i have read, Verizon is the way to go.
I don't feel to ripped off TBH. After a DX and now a D3, I know I'll never go back to Moto. The DX was my learner phone that was kept stock, this one I've ROM'd and what not, but the locked bootloader issue annoys me beyond belief...I'm going to Samsung next. GNex or wait for Galaxy S 3 (potentially quad core)?
Also, for this reason...no ICS...no .

Quick question guys thinking of geting a bionic from a friend but I have a few questions first
1. I see there is and awesome noob root and custom rom guide however how easy is it to go back completely to stock for warranty reasons with my charge I could just use a cwm install to get back to stock is it that easy for the bionic or is more required?
2. Does the bionic have a working ics port yet?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
1. Is not as simple as the charge, but yes. there are guides on how to go back to stock from a custom ROM. Follow them to a T and you shoud be good.
2. Theres a few ics roms, axiom, gummy, etc. just look in the development section or on rootzwiki. You're going to have to install a safestrap or cwm bootstrap in order to use them though.
Don't
Sorry to be blunt, but don't get a Bionic. Sadly, this phone has become a leper in Motorola's lineup. It seems like they shifted so much attention to the Razr/Maxx so fast that this one has been left behind. I wouldn't expect the official ICS build on the Bionic until way later than the Razr, if at all.
Aside from the apparent lack of love from Motorola, there's some goofiness on the Bionic with images not containing radio versions and such that cause some extra hoops to jump through if you got off the beaten upgrade path when messing around with it.
The screen on the Bionic isn't that good either in my opinion. Unless you're getting one for dirt cheap, don't.
Obviously, others may have a different opinion.
really how many people are going to post this every week just freaking search dude!! or try it out for a week or so and if you don't like it return it!!!
Dont get a bionic unless you find one for free...I'd def get Galaxy Nexus or RAZR.
I agree with Averix, do not get a Bionic even for free!
If you can find one around $200 I would. I had one, it's an excellent phone. never lagged, speedy, etc. personally I'd rather have a Bionic than a Nexus, with HDMI, a microS card slot, & much much better build quality. The phone's have identified specs (dual core lmao, 1GB ram, FCC, etc) besides the above. ICS will come, it's not even needed to make this phone great, as there aren't any problems with GB, and there are still several excellent ROMs a soluble if flashing is your thing. People just need to be more patient.

I liked my Bionic now that I've rooted it. I'm not a fan of the stock OS. Currently I'm on Eclipse 2.2 because I had problems with Gummy.
-First post
Bionic with ICS here - I like it, but I think it's time to switch it up. If you're used to constant flashing...don't look for it here =/
Personally I have 2 bionics and find them to be very stable, good (not great) screen rez and can be purchased on eBay for a decent price (I got both of mine for around $180). RAZR's and GNEX are going to run a lot more, though I admit they are both superior devices. For me I simply wanted a dual core w/ very good LTE performance (Hotspot at home) and I get around 15-20Mbps-down, 12-16Mbps-up at home and on the road. ICS would be a plus but I would rather wait 4-5 months when VZW ships an update. I decided NOT to use my upgrade yet, I would rather wait for the next gen of phones w/ Tegra 3 or Exynos Quad processors and hang with the Bionic for the time being.
But if you want to be on a devices with regular ROM updates, yeah the ship has sailed on the Bionic.
DO NOT GET THE BIONIC. though i am still using it and toughing it out for the moment. Moto really screwed all Bionic users in 2 ways:
1. the phone in stock OS is terrible. it is slow, laggy, atrocious battery life (even with extended battery) and has many bugs that updates have not fixed.
2. Moto delayed its release for so long that they rolled out the RAZR (which has much better hardware and runs much smoother) a month after the bionic effectively stabbing all Bionic users in the back by killing further development of the bionic. A lot of developers have jumped ship from the Bionic to new phones. It looks like the RAZR will be getting ICS before the Bionic showing that Moto doesn't have much loyalty to the Bionic.
If you're gonna get a new phone, get a RAZR MAXX
Agree eclipse 2.2 on bionic is awesome excellent battery life ;-)

If you can get a bionic for a price you like. Great phone. Not the most development for it, but its still better than most androids in users hands right now. If you like flashing a lot, go with HTC or the nexus. I've been.seeing people sell their nexus for cheap on Craigslist lately. I wouldn't get a nexus though. No HDMI and screwey 3 on screen button is a deal breaker for me. Android been using 4 buttons for so long, I see no reason to change that's up.
The majority of the complaints about the bionic can be found with any android. At this point, a lot of it is nitpicking.

Came from the Droid X and found a gently used bionic with an extended battery and door and the stock battery and door with the lapdock for 200 bucks. In less than an hour had it rooted and gave Gummy ICS, liberty 3.2 (radio didt work. I'm on 902.) and settled on eclipse 2.2. It's a major improvement over the X. And I still have something to look forward to when ICS matures or even Jelly Bean is released.
I'm happy

Bionic has some pros over Razr
I actually decided on the Bionic over the Razr/Razr Maxx for a few reasons:
1. Bionic fits very securely into the Bionic Lapdock. I can sit in bed, on train, plane, etc., with the Bionic in the Bionic Lapdock and it stays in securely. I much prefer this over the Razr and the Lapdock 100/500 which is a universal Lapdock that very loosely hold the Razr. I found unless you are sitting at a table with these Lapdocks and Razr, than it is going to be cumbersome to use with the Lapdock. Also, easier to just drop Bionic straight into Bionic Lapdock than having to fiddle with cable of Lapdock 100/500.
2. Bionic Lapdock's build is much better. Bionic Lapdock is aluminum and feels more sturdy than plastic of Lapdock 100/500 used with the Razr.
- theses reason were more specific to use with Lapdock obviuosly, which for me was a deciding factor. however, Bionic has another pro I feel is overlooked, and that is its removable battery...
3. Bionic has removable batteries. Though everyone goes on about battery life of Razr Maxx, it is still not removable. Granted, it last a long time, but when it runs out, then what? Unless u got charger with you, you are out of luck. With Bionic I can easily carry a couple of extra batteries with my Lapdock to keep me going as long as i need. And I do not have to be tied down to a charger cable and outlet if Razr Maxx runs out of juice. I am often on Bionic with Lapdock in coffee shops, web browsing on LTE, streaming Pandora, editing files, the whole works. Even the Razr Maxx cannot keep up with me. And I never get a seat by a power outlet. With Bionic, I carry a extra battery and extra battery wall charger and usually have this extra battery charging on wall while i work across the room. When one battery runs out, i simply walk over, switch out batteries, and while I'm using up the new one, I still got one charging and I do not need to be tied to a cable. Works great. Razr Maxx cant do that and LTE is a killer.
Raxr Maxx = 3300mah
Bionic Batt = 1760mah....get 2 of them and swap one out while another is charging with a extra battery wall charger and you got = unlimited battery life = unlimited mah!!...for cheap!!
The extra bulk, updates of Bionic, dont compare to this nearly inexhaustible battery life with removable batteries that everyone seems to overlook with Razr Maxx. Plus I got my Bionic, extra batteries, extra battery wall chargers and other accesories for less than what Razr Maxx costs. Bionic all the way for me! Now just give me ICS with Webtop 3.0 tablet mode and I do not see a phone in sight for the price that has this many features.

Just got my Bionic at Best Buy for Free.
Nice phone.
Better than the Pantech Breakout I returned for it.
Hey all,
Just wanted to get some opinions on this. My Bionic has been having a fair amount of issues as of late. It seems every CLNR replacement phone I have gotten has had one issue or another. Verizon offered to bump me up to the Razr for my trouble and time. The question is when I got my Bionic I got the extended battery with it. Would you make the trade? Or push for the Razr Maxx since it is a closer comparison to the Bionic w/ extended battery? (Which was purchased at Verizon as well) Just looking for some conversation on it, and maybe some ideas on what I should do...
Thanks in advance!
push for the galaxy nexus, best of both worlds.
You think the Nexus trumps Bionic and Razr Maxx?
maybe not on battery life, but the developer support and (half-ass) google support really makes a good choice. NFC is very nice also.
Wait for Razr HD?
So i have had my Bionic for about 2 months now and im looking to get a new phone already. Love the Bionic to death, just bored of it, and was wondering what phones compare to the Bionic for specs and root capabilities and BL unlock. I know Verizon is pretty tight when it comes to phones that have bL that are unlockable. So what would you all recommend as an upgrade?

I've had mine since December, and am planning to have it for 2 years (longer if I don't break it). What's to get bored of? Does a 6 month newer phone get you a different internet?
Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk 2
Well if you're going from 3G to 4G i'd say it's not any different but faster XD. With the new ICS coming out your Bionic will be different. Not sure how you get bored with a phone after 2 months. I've had mine sometime after launch and with the new ICS Leak it's like a whole new phone. I am not sure what you're looking for especially if you're looking at a phone with near specs. If after 2 month you're bored of it obviously the phone wasn't meant for you. ICS brought more life out of the phone for me. As stated above I intend on keeping this phone for years especially with VZW's so called shared plans. Almost all VZWs phones have a locked bootloader. Hopefully Hashcode gets us the ability to load custom kernels then that's when the fun begins.
I find the bionic to be as good as a nexus with the leaked ics. Then again I prefer stability and sticking to a rom for several months at a time unless there's major bugs
So personally id keep the bionic as there really aren't any huge upgrades out there.
Unless you love a amoled screen but I really like the display on the bionic as I can make out things in sunlight

Keep it!
There aren't really any phones out with more horsepower than the Bionic - with dual core and a gig of ram it can run any Android flavor just fine.
I'm curious - what is it that "bores" you with the Bionic? What feature would you be looking for?
Not meaning this to be snarky - but seems to me if you're "bored" with your phone you have waay too much time on your hands. Start developing with it if you have free time - us regular users will love you for the work!

They're both practically the same phones except the Razr is thinner and has ICS. So I'd go with the Razr
Bionic has ICS too just not OTA. The leaked builds for the Bionic is a higher version number then the ICS version on the Razr. Not sure if that is of importance. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Razr's screen is a higher resolution then the Bionic though (1280x720). Both good either way. Let us know what you chose

The Droid Razr has the same basic screen as the Bionic (540x960 for both), and mostly the same hardware. With the impending ICS leak, I would suggest the Bionic, mainly because you can get an extended battery for it, which is much better than the stock battery or the non-removable of the Razr. If it's the Razr Maxx however, it's got the bigger battery, so I'd go for that.
Go Bionic:
Replaceable batteries!
I have both and still love my Bionic...swapping batteries just feels right, ya know....Amazon has stock Bionic batteries for between 3 and five bucks!
But to each their own...Bionic, that is!

I would have lost my left arm... I could of sworn the Razr had higher resolution. Linuxgator is correct that the resolution is the same. The Razr does have a super AMOLED display while the Bionic's is a TFT so the Razer still has the edge.
I traded my Bionic for a RAZR. Bionic was a good phone, but once you hold them both in your hands you'll want to make the switch.
My two closest friends have a RAZR and a Maxx. I don't think you can go wrong between the RAZR and Bionic, but I definitely benefit from the extended battery I have in my Bionic.
But the difference between ICS and GB is night and day, so if you're not willing to put a leak on there, the RAZR may be better for you (though ICS is seemingly impending for the Bionic).
I've read many complaints from Razr owners not being able to watch online videos once they got their ICS update, and some of the people are pretty mad since one day they could and then the next they couldn't.

I think thats a Adobe Flash issue and all Android users will have issues with that on ICS. works for some, doesn't for others. Adobe will not support it past 4.0.x which means it will NOT be made available on JB. That puts Androids back in the same unfortunate feature lacking category as the iPhone.
Those same exact issues are on the Bionic with ICS. All you need to do is sideload Flash (there's a link in the RAZR forums) and it will work perfectly. All flash video works fine on my RAZR.
Considering not everyone can sideload flash on the ics leak for the bionic and have it work, I'd be willing to bet that not every razr will be able to sideload it and have it work also.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Try it like in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855735 - uninstall clear data for Flash and clear your cache, uninstall whatever version you have, then add the version posted. It will work.
I am completely pleased with my Bionic and the high price I paid for it when it was released. HAHA however if you sought out this forum, I have a feeling you should go with the newer, slightly better supported phone. The razr will get JB first. The AMOLED screen is super nice, and the non-removable battery is considered not as nice. I would def rec the MAXX, but still my vote is RAZR.
Best of all, you will be pleased no matter what you pic. Both good phones
