i'm planning to root my samsung galaxy s i9000. i want to know if accidently i brick my phone will it restore?
if something goes wrong while rooting will it be able to get to its default(official) firmware?
as long as you can get to download mode you can revive your phone.you can try CF root.read carefully the instructions, choose the correct file and you'll successfully root your phone.here's the link

the best is before you root, try to see if your handset is able to access download mode (vol dwn + home + power) if im not wrong, some handsets are unable to access download mode through the three way method.
Don't worry, you can unbrick it fast with odin, but only if you can put your phone in download mode: volume down+home+power (stop from keeping pressed when it starts).
If that works, pull out your battery, place it back and turn on. It should load normally, with no problems.
Tested on my SGS!

You should try to reinstall the stock firmware. First see if you can get into download mode. Two ways, while your phone is off, hold down volume, the home button, and power button together till you get a yellow sign that has a digging android. If that don't work, other way is to take battery out, hold down volume, home button, and power together and reinsert the battery. Once you get to that stage, use Odin to reinstall your firmware.

shud all my apps be restored?? or back to square 1?
Well seeing as though you updated via kies, all your apps are deleted. I would just start fresh and back to stock. After that I would install a custom rom from the forums here, in my opinion, these rom makers do a great job making Roms that will make your phone be a phone and more

Two choices return phone to Samsung saying broke under Kies update .
Or use recovery jig and flash stock firmware this is an unofficial method that will invalidate your warranty .

Sorry went to bed, just woke up. Anyways download the stock firmware for your phone. Make sure you download the right one. Meaning if you have the i9000M, download i9000M, or if you have i9000T, download i9000T. If you check behind your battery you'll.find your model. I don't think it really matters, I mean your just gonna flash another rom once your phone is back to life for sure. ;-)

Hi everyone. Im not normally in this section as i have an x8 but my friend has seen all the roms, mods and updates ive done so he tried to do it to his galaxy s i9000 without rooting or unlocking his bootloader. I asked him what he did he said he just tried to update software with keis but now it wont turn on just white screen with a red triangle in the middle i hope its download mode as i dont have a galaxy i dont really no but the battery has died and it wont charge im guessing hes damaged the bootloader am i right and if so whats the best corse of action to tepair it. Thanks.
You can check if it is in download mode by pluggin it in pc with odin. See the wiki page what it says about soft brick.
Soft-Bricked
After flashing a rom you might not be able to enter the Download Mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power. In this case a so called 'JIG' would be helpfull.
You could build it on your own: [HOWTO] [REF] Get Download Mode without 3-button combo using homemade JIG
... or buy a preassembled one on a well known marketplace.Hint: There is no difference between a JIG for Samsung S/S2 or S-Plus.
See if you can go into d0wnload mode with vol down home and power. If that works go and try to find the stock firmware for the phone and download and extract. Download odin and put csc pda and phone/modem in there rightful places. 512 pit in pit section. Pit usually comes with odin download. If not find it somewhere. Repartition checked and hit start. It should reboot when done. It will problaby take a couple of min to boot but be patient. If it starts to go into boot loop put back into download mode again and reflash. Its very hard to mess up the phone to where you cant fix it. So relax and watch tuts or whatever helps you best. I know of a link i that i will find and post for you when i do.

DEAD bricked phone
So, my friend's phone (hopefully she'll stay my friend after this) was turning itself on and off all on it's own. So I (no good deed goes unpunished) suggested that I will upgrade her firmware for her. She had 2.3.3 firmware. I downloaded the odin1.7 as well as a package of all the info for 2.3.5 firmware upgrade. I flashed the phone- originally only using the PDA option with a file called: CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship
It worked, the phone restarted and showed the firmware as being 2.3.5.
I don't know why, but I thought it would be a good idea to update the CSC and the pit and the modem as well- so I did that. when this was finished - though odin said that the flashing was successful the phone is completely unresponsive. The computer doesn't recognize it, it doesn't show any signs of life at all- like it's in the dark ages and there is no electricity in it.
HELP!!!
First question: do you think a jig will work? how dangerous is it?
second question: is there any other option to try that I haven't come across other than changing the motherboard, and if there isn't do you know where I can get one, bear in mind I live in Israel.
Please e-mail me a copy of the response to [email protected] if you can...
Odin dosnt pick it up atall plus the batteries dead aswell now and the stupid thing wont charge so i cant evan try any thing till i find away or some one to charge it but thanks for the tips.

Try to recharge the battery from other phone or use another battery.
Check whether you have the download mode working. (Home+Power+Volume down)
If yes, put phone in download mode and flash Darky RE or any other Rom via ODIN. Try to get the recovery mod after rooting and then try ROMs.
Or try restarting the phone it may work without update also. Long press power in download mode restarts the phone. However be careful.
What is the status of the device can you go to download mode
Post your firmware files name and how you choose in the odin flasher.
Dont try anything crazy you will bricked your device more:banghead:

Alternate way to Download mode
Hi gavster26
I have been there with a buddy's phone... not a nice place.
Found a link showing this other trick ... but you have to trial and error this one on the different combos:
1. Phone off
2. USB cable pluged in
3. Odin running
4. Down (or Up - test both) Volume button + Home button + plug in the USB cable.
This booted my dead "bricked" phone into download mode.
Try it.
here is my problem ..
i was on ics euphoria when i get some FC. i tried to get back JM9 rom using Odin3 when my phone was fall down during the operation now when i turn it on there is image of phone.../!\....pc
i don't have the download mod usb jig doesn't work and also one click or unbrickable resurrector on linux .well it seems that I'd do hardware modifications make a connection between xOM5 resistor & xOM3 or xOM0 is that true?
is there in other thing to do? i need help
Sent the Service Centre for repair if you still have your warranty. I bricked my phone twice, rooted and in custom rom and they couldn't find out as long as you have BSOD(phone.../\...pc). If you don't have warranty anymore try flashing a stock rom using odin.

If you can go to download mode by holding the down volume + Home Key.
Keep them pressed & turn on the phone.
If you are able to enter download mode.
Try to download a original firmware eg., ( xxjvu 2.3.x) & try to flash it with odin.
Try google & it should come up with some links to the firmware.
If you can't enter download mode try this heimdall-one-click.googlecode.com/files/OneClick.jar

if everything didnt work you may do it in the hard way that is you turn off your device and take off the battery and sim card and memory card if you have one then you bring a hair dryer and put it on the hottest level then center it between the camera and the speaker for 10 seconds then quickly put the battery back and hold home+low volume+power this will put you into download mode if it didnt work the first time try again and for me , it didnt harm my phone .. i used it when my phone bricked and it didnt enter to download mode nor recovery and didnt have a jig .. hope this would help you ....
NOTE : DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK

this is a hardware issue the high temp disturbs the hardware and somehow it takes you into download mode and I swear it worked for me.
the phone reacts on resistors. so if you have a special resistor your phone turns in different modes, e.g. hard reset, schutdown, or download mode.
Thanks

hey guys, i believe i acquired a soft bricked galaxy s last night. from what the girl told me, it had been rooted, custom rom installed, and im guessing a kernel aswell.it gets past the "world phone" screen then gets stuck at the glowing android coming out of the ground. Im assuming its a kernel problem. ive tried alot of methods on here, searched alot of the forums on these phones being soft bricked. tried the vol+,home, power; vol-,home, power; both volumes, power; also tried with connecting usb and odin open; both volumes, connect usb, input batt; vol-, connect usb, input batt; ectect. i just cant get past that boot logo. I have the drivers from samsung installed but when connecting to the computer it registers that something connected but doesnt identify the phone. so is there anything i am missing guys? i read about the jig and i am guessing thats where im gonna have to go with this. no problem there; just seeing if anyone has any other ideas. thanks in advance guys!

A jig will force download mode but is only needed is vol down + power button doesn't get you in it.
Do you know if she was on gb and up? That would change your button combo to get in recovery to vol up + down + power button.
If you can get in recovery that way, you have 2 options: 1- clear cache and dalvik (in advanced) and try rebooting. 2- reflash the custom ROM she was running (without deleting anything).
If recovery doesn't work, get in download mode and flash Odin KK4 without bootloaders (in dev section). From there, you'll need to flash Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 and you'll be able to get in recovery to flash the ROM and Gapps she was running. *Doing this will wipe her apps and apps data*

yea, whatever happens to the phone doesnt matter, its mine now, was just given to me. sadly idk what rom she was running, her sd card is MIA, and idk what OS she was running on. i highly doubt she would even know. so at this point after trying all the button combos, think a jig is the only option?
What happens if u pull the battery, replace it, leave phone off, phone must be off, connect usb end of cable to ur pc, hold both volume up and down together and then insert micro usb into phone ??

Same story man. Probably gonna be jig is what it is looking like. Any ideas what cause this to happen? Ex. Not being able to enter recovery/download by using proper button combos?
Just a known issue on some Capivates. But the flash up to GB firmware is the fix for the button combos failin to work. Once u have the GB BLs ur button combos should work.
So once u get a jig, Odin or Heimdall up to KK4 with Bootloaders (heed all warnings about flashin BLs). Then u can Odin KK4 Corn Kernel and proceed where u wish.

After the Stock kk4 flash it will have....Stock i897ucKK4 Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware.
So afterwards u will need to use Odin to flash the .tar file version of the KK4 Corn Kernel in order to get cwm recovery and go from there in the flashin of dev roms if u want.

Little precision: Odin one click is what you'll be using to flash KK4 (stock gb firmware). Odin 1.85 is what you'll need to flash Corn kernel (.tar is PDA slot).

Odd... I don't see why that happened, being on an I9003 shoudn't make any difference...
Try take out the battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. It seems to work for some people (or variations of this method).
Or just keep trying to boot into download mode- it has worked for me once before, download mode suddenly working again after getting that symbol.
Worst comes to worst, it requires a USB jig, but there have been cases (including my own) where download mode has been recovered without needing a jig.
Did the error in Odin happen instantly? (you did everything correctly, judging by your screencap)

Please check i9003 for your phone as SGS 1 and 2 software may not be suited for your device just to be on the safe side
Got it into download mode using this method. Then flashed I9003XXKPE package but it's still bootlooping and recovery says that /data can't be formatted. I've seen this method that could solve this situation, but I would like to try to recover data partition before.
read carefully, choose, download urs n flash it, all there
