Is it possible to get an unlocked T-mobile HD7 to work on at&t's 3G network? Maybe by flashing a different radio to it?
Unfortunatly not ATT uses aws bands 850/1900 Tmo uses 1700/2100
here r the specs for HD7 only will work on att edge
Processor
1 GHz
Operating System
Windows Phone OS 7
Internal Memory
512 MB + 16 GB (non-removable microSD™) ROM, 512 MB RAM
Display
4.3-inch WVGA with capacitive touch screen
Network
UMTS 2100MHz AWS1700/2100MHz + GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
Camera
5.0 megapixel with auto focus
Battery
Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, 1300 mAh
You nailed it...
Thanks for the post...
My iPhone is on the ATT network.
When I received my unlocked TMobile HD7 I decided to play and see how well it would work on the ATT network.
I had almost forgotten how terribly slow the Edge network really is; I barely survived three days.
Needless to say, it is happy to be back on the TMobile network

Bye.
Don't leave sad, just leave.
Have fun without your SD Card slot.
Good news for you. So did you get the 850 and 1900 gsm and 3g frequencies or just the 1900?
have fun with no 3g/hsdpa because itonly runs on 2100 until att wins the auction for 850 (IF and when they decide to go for it) it wont be of much use on the net
Not to spoil your party..but are the fingerprints on the back cover,..messy?
Having said that,...Diamonds are forever...
Keep us updated on the pros and cons..
Cheers.
So far things are fine
One thing I do think is true is that 3G works on my Diamond everything is set to auto and I called HTC and they said that 3G works fine in Illinois but certain parts of Florida, Texas, California have trouble with 3G ......I do miss the sliding keyboard tho......texting is slower because everything is Touch now....I'll have to get used to it / which I'am
Peace

Because AT&T uses different frequencies in different areas. He may be in an area where AT&T runs on a frequency supported by the Diamond.
GSM networks in North and South America operate at frequencies of 850 or 1900 MHz, while most networks in other countries operate at frequencies of 900 or 1800 MHz. AT&T recommends quad band phones/devices for most international travelers. Since these wireless devices operate on all four of the international GSM frequencies, you ensure the broadest international coverage available.
According to AT&T.
Specifically, 3g runs on 1900.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong (please do, because I want to like the diamond :]), but the diamond has radio updates that all it to work quadband for EDGE, but for 3g, it only has support for 900 and 2100 MHz bands...neither of which AT&T run *anywhere* in America.
Is that correct?
Why did you switch ? Just curious. Something new?

In other words, like I thought, 3g *should not* work.
So if it does, why?
I can't 3G works!?!?
I don't know.....top of screen says 3G with 2 or 3 bars......I switched devices because I love touch flow and had the money to buy it. It does switch alot from EDGE to GSM and 3G ...I have to admit tho that it's on EDGE 90% of the time.
Peace

i am also waiting on the touch pro, but congrats on the diamond. now all i wish is that us kaiser users can get touchflo 3d to work on our devices using the new 3d drivers...
edit: i have tw questions to ask you about the diamond:
1. hows the battery life?
2. is touchflo 3d really as cool as people think it is?
Why wouldn't 1900 work, I would understand if 850 or 2100 did not
The video call won't because it is not supported on att but could be used as a web cam right?
Hell, id be waiting for the Touch Pro too if it wouldn't cost 800$ plus.
I am intested in purchasing an unlocked Diamond that I can use on the T-Mobile USA network with my existing SIM card. I'm perfectly happy with EDGE speeds as I don't really use the PDA that much for work. (I use a Verizon 3G wireless card for my work on a laptop.) Plus I'm happy paying $19/month for EDGE compared to 60/month. I'm hoping to enable the 850MHz with the new ROM.
Do you recommend I wait for the GSM 3G US version of the Diamond to arrive? How long of a wait do you think?
If I decide to just get the EDGE only Diamond what is the best price and who would you recommend I purchase it from?
Thanks!
I'm too waiting for T-Mobile USA 3G to be available. It's very unlikely the Diamond will be on TMo USA in the next few months. (But then what do I know?) IFAIK, so far I the only T-Mo USA 3G phone leaked out is HTC Kaiser - http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=537
I bought my Diamond from this guy last week - http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-TOUCH-DIAMO...RKS-WITH-AT-T_W0QQitemZ140254188917QQihZ004QQ - it already comes 850 enabled by HTC.
I love the Diamond so far! There is occasional sound issue (I had it twice in the week I have the phone) but it's not a big deal for me compared to what I get with the phone.
2nd, you can buy them with 850mhz enabled (meaning everything works with T-Mobile but 3G) or you can flash it yourself easily. If you're okay with EDGE, look for any Diamond that's Quad-Band and you'll get everything you want.
i have had my quad band diamond for 2 days. Works great on T-Mobile. DOn't currently have 3G on t-mobile AFAIK here anyway. Switched from the Kaise which was LAME and TOO BIG
Just ordered mine tonight. Thanks for the feedback!
Actually, I just thought of something... If your area is a 3G zone with T-mobile (nowhere but LV yet I think), you'll get 3G as long as it's on the 2100mhz band and not the 1700mhz they also use. The Diamond has a 900/2100mhz UMTS band capability, so half of T-Mobile's 3G will work.
First, I'm a flashing newbie, and still have the stock ROM and Radio flashed on my Touch Pro 2.
TMOBILE has now updated(via some secret behind the scenes update) their Touch Pro 2 owners to "4G" coverage in the Detroit metro area. I would like flash to some of the ROMS offered but I'm not sure if after doing so will I continue to receive TMOBILE'S 4G coverage. I understand that "radio" flashing is separate from Rom flashing but is anyone sure that just flashing the ROM would not effect the TMOBILE 4G update.
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Does the TP2 hardware even support 4G? That's not something you can just "upgrade". Are you sure that they're not just offering more bandwidth via HDSPA? If that's the case, then what ROM you're using will have no effect on that seeing as nearly all custom ROMs have it on by default.

Got a screenshot of your TP2 showing 4G?
from my understanding, only the touch pro 2 from europe and japan have the 4g hardware, usa only 3g hardware, thats why i bought mine from taiwan so when 4g comes out, im well equipped!!!

what they are actually doing is claiming their 3g network as 4g. its hspa. they took a card from verizon that considered their 2g network to be 3g. "you mean, alot of our 3g network is slower than atts 2g? and the only bits that are fast enough to keep up have less coverage than their 3g and is still slower? nonsense! i choose not to believe!"
T-mobile is marketing the same network even when they say 3G or 4G because it's all just upgrades, the appropriate term should be "3.5G". all of their sales reps i've encountered don't know anything about their network or their devices.
a week before the G2 came out, one of the reps tried to tell me that it was sporting a "dual-core processor". i laughed and corrected him without missing a beat. just watch their commercials...it's sad to see someone advertise 4G when it's just "3.5G".

Actually, it's HSPA+, not HSPA, T-Mobile & Sprint are advertising as 4G, which is faster & only a select few devices support the new HSPA+ speeds. So, it's more like 3.75G. HSPA+ provides HSPA data rates up to 56 Mbit/s down and 22 Mbit/s up. Future revisions of HSPA+ support up to 168 Mbit/s using multiple carriers. Regular HSPA maxes out @ 14 Mbit/s. The TP2 & most of HTC's 3G/HSPA(+) devices only support 7.2 Mbit/s down, 2 Mbit/s up. So, to answer the OP ?, If the network in that area was slower than 7.2 Mbit/s down before the upgrade, you will see an increase, but it'd be maxed out at 7.2 Mbit/s due to device limitations. As this is a Hardware issue, ROM doesn't matter other than the fact the lighter ROM's runs faster & therefore can get higher speeds because of the extra free RAM/Resources. Whereas, heavy, more feature rich ROM will tax the device more & therefore the CPU/RAM/Etc. won't be able to attain max bandwidth. It's like having a 30 Mbit Cable/DSL connection on a Pentium 3 PC. It'd never get the max speed as the system is just too slow to take advantage of it.
So basically, their advertising maybe false, it is used to explain a faster network & used to simplify which devices support this new speed. Most consumers wouldn't understand all this. So instead of dealing with, "why doesn't my 3G phone get full speed? *cry*" from customers not understanding their device has a limited bandwidth. Think of it like the days of dial-up modems. ISP A has a 56K network, but User B has a 28K Modem, so User B only gets 28K speeds.
"A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secure all-IP based solution where facilities such as ultra-broadband (giga-bit speed such as 1000+ Mbit/s) Internet access, IP telephony, gaming services, and streamed multimedia may be provided to users."

So it goes something like this;
2G -> EDGE (2.5G) -> 3G -> HSPA (3.5G) -> HSPA+ (3.75G?) -> 4G (?)
Also keep in mind it's measured in bits per second, not bytes. There's 8 bits per byte. So 8Mbit/s = 1 MB. Also some service providers cheat by counting it as 10 bits per byte. (b=bit/B=Byte)
EDIT: Interesting side note, according to gsmarena.com, the G2 & MyTouch 4G only supports HSPA 14.4 Mbit/s down & 5.76 Mbit/s up (T-Mobile's network is 21 Mbit/s according to reports) & the Evo 4G only supports Rev. A, up to 3.1 Mbit/s.
Could I but it unlocked from Motorola? How much? And will it work? How much 3g can I get on it? Is it worth it?
Come on man..common sense. It won't get T-Mobile 3G without AWS bands, unless Motorola included some new antenna we don't know about. In which case, you'll have to wait till it's been released.

I THINK IT WILL WORK WITH 3G AND HSDPA+!!!
Bro if it does I will get it unlocked. I just went to t mobile and they told me I had to pay 400 to cancel my contract but that I could upgrade! What kind of crap is that. They just want to keep you forever!
But on the Motorola website I don't see I could buy it unlocked
No they don't. When buy a subsidized phone you pay for it over the life of contract with a little interest. If you cancel contract you basically end up paying for the phone.
T mobile is the only carrier out the main four that lets you bring your own phone and gives you cheaper monthly plan with no contract.

First suggestion is not post in the Nexus One Q&A about $randomphone
Second, you might want to check to see if you even WANT the Atrix. Let's just keep it simple and say this: No custom ROMs for any Motorola phone, ever. Unless someone decrypts or otherwise rips open the bootloader.
Do you use a custom ROM on the Nexus One? Would you use a stock ROM?
hello there!
i pretend to buy a hd7 front tmobile in ebay, but i want to know if it use 3g in 850m z band
in gsmarea say that have it but in t mobile version rellay dont know
regards
According to HTC's Website, the T-Mobile HD7 has the 1700/2100 MHz 3G frequencies. The AT&T version when it comes out (HD7S) should have the 850 MHz frequency you need as according to HTC's site, the surround they have uses 2100/1900/850 so it is plausible the HD7S will have the same specs.
i have a new hd7s branded att how can i unlock it to use my tmobile sim and would i still get the same network speed etc

You wouldn't get 3G speeds. T-Mobile needs 1700/2100MHz. HD7S has 850/1900.
