Washed out screen, something wrong

Hi there, just got my Kasier yesterday and was working fine, but took it out of the belt case on getting to work and the screen is super washed-out and white. You can still barely make out some words etc. but something is definately wrong. Rebooting the normally red version numbers in the bottom right are a light cyan/blue! Any ideas? Only other weird thing is battery was down to 77% at 8:15 am from full at 6:30am with about 30 mins WiFi use. Unit gets hot with WiFi but not crazy so, and is not hot now. Rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Help!!!! Thanks for any ideas...(and yes already notified MadMonkeyBoy of the problem since I got it from him).

This behaviour happend to me 1 year ago with my Tytn. since this happend just before my hollidays, I open a ticket to HTC europe, they request me to send it back for repair. When I return from vacation (I let the battery out), I just checked before sending it, and... it was fine... never happend again...
My advice... let it rest a little... you stressed it 2 much...
Now serious... send it to HTC.

does the case have a magnet to hold it closed? i thought i read somewhere on XDA that the when the phone is in a case with a magnet it can cause some problems; i don't recall, though, if this caused problems with the screen... i'm interested to hear feedback, thoughts from other "real" experts.

The case that comes with the Kaiser is not one with Magnets. Similar pouch style but with a tape/velcro fastening.
Having said that I'm using a Hermes case with magnets. It does no harm, though it can operate the screen orientation switch according to reports. In addition it can (again according to reports and tested by me) actually turn the device on from standby so you could drain your battery using such a case.

thats just how my screen went before i returned it for replacement. my second TYTN II hasnt had any problems

i just got the same problem today..i was at work and i pulled out my phone from my pocket...and noticed the screen was all washed out...any idea if its software of hardware????

This happened to me last night. Anyone got any answers? I'm using a Krussel case with a magnet. Phone only bought recently second-hand off ebay - just a few weeks. Gutted here.

Sorry to dig up a thread from the dead, but I just had this happen tonight. It looks EXACTLY like the pics in the OP's post. Has anyone ever found a solution to this problem? Even LCD replacement? I don't mind replacing the LCD If I know it will fix the problem. My fear is buying a replacement LCD and finding out it is some other hardware problem, and I don't want to waste the money on an LCD if it's not the issue at hand.

Broken Diamond display, or what?

This thread is more for an ensurance for me that I've done nothing wrong when using my phone - and it might show up that some other people have the same problem as I do.
Now, to the thingie. Bought a HTC Diamond about 3 months ago - working just fine. Although about 3-4 weeks ago I realized that when I tilt my screen, I can see some crazy stuff going on... There is two pictures attached and linked to further down.
Anyone else has this problem? Would be lovely to hear what you've done. I sent an e-mail to HTC and the manu... manufactourer-/or~ (spelling :b).

That just looks like moisture between the screen protector and the screen itself.

Odd that it's in a perfect rectangle. I've seen this before on a mates LG Viewty (Horrible phone!), but he never followed it up so I don't know what the cause was. It did have a touch screen, but no protector. Perhaps its moisture actually in the screen or a manufacturing fault?

Oh my - I had rectangle on the screen today when I removed the protective front later (brand new phone).
Though It's no longer showing I'm scared its going to become more apparent and eventually become like this.
What is going on with QA and HTC?
There was another exact case like this that I saw this week. Can't really remmeber but do a search and you will find it.

Unfortunately it isn't moisture below the screen protector, but that the touch resistive layer was subject to heavy pressure (eg: being squeezed in the pocket). It shouldn't affect anything in the short term, but in the long run the touch screen might become erratic or imprecise, so you should keep an eye on it.
The store I bought my TPro from doesn't accept returns/exchanges, and so far HTC hasn't replied to my support ticket. Unfortunately I think some of us are going to be left out in the cold. Personally I'm tempted to buy a replacement touch layer and replace it myself, but of course that would void the warranty (even though it doesn't seem to be doing me any good).
If this becomes widespread, there could be a chance for a class action lawsuit (hopefully HTC will wise up and help us out before it comes to that).

Yes, the rectangular shape is very, very odd - since that makes me think that just pressure can create this mess. It feels more like a manufacturing fault.. But, as for fhsieh, HTC hasn't respond to my support ticket.

But in a Touch Cruise I own before. I thought, as said, that this regular shape can only came from a pressure problem.
Loosing my warranty (due to the long time to be repaired here in Spain), I opened it, confirming that was not a problem with moisture (at least in my case). Also I saw the resistive layer poorly sticked to the body, with zones unglued, causing the layer to raise, specially in the bottom edges. This bothered me a lot, because I ended with lot of dirt between the layer and the screen itself, unable to clean.
Maybe that was the problem. If the layer is not correctly assembled it gets an irregular surface (as lightly squeeshed) , yielding this. But, functionally speaking, the screen was performing well, as it should be.

It's only humidity... it happens also in my diamond... try to dry it under the sun..(not so good for lcd but it works for me)..

Yes, it's due to the prefect pressure of the screen, exactly in the center..if you try to press a corner for example near to Start button (with screen off) you should see the spot follow your finger's pressure. So there is a small drop between LCD and screen..(for me)

I had same problem in polaris. Send it for warranty as this is manufacturing fault. Why keep ****??? its htc s fault!?!

Well I thought i was the only one who had this problem till I came across this thread.... it's quite weird it's in a perfect rectangular shape anyone tried removing the protective screen and checkin whether it is the display... but one thing you hve to notice once the display is on we can't see tht on the screen only against a black background can you notice it....

It is the problem of screen protector. You may not see this watermark after you take off the screen protector. Try other good screen protector like Brando, Martin Fields ....

I tried removing the screen protector and the rectangular shape is still there then I put it in front of an A/C cooler unit and it went away!!!! then after awhile it returned back and the place I live is very hot and humid so I guess it's weather which plays a role....

Moving couch = Broken Tilt

I'm assuming I smashed my At&t tilt or something, there is no cracks on the screen or anything, but the pic below shows the display I get. I'll have the phone for about a year in about 2 weeks. Anyone have an idea as to how much At&t or HTC will charge to fix this or am I better off buying a new phone? Or any ideas as to what could be broken and how it can be fixed? It doesn't allow me to do a hard reset. Thanks

well i don't know if warranty will cover it or not but you are still under your one year warranty so you could try to get a replacement. Its hard to say what could be causing it. You can check out mike channon's articles on disassembling a kaiser.

Well to my trained eye, it looks as though you have actually cracked the lcd screen. This damage isnt generally covered by any manufacturers standard warranty. Unless you purchased an extra warranty including accidental damage, I think its up to you to repair yourself unless you want to spend 400USD + for the repair. Taking it apart isnt terribly difficult and I have seen links to lcd screens posted all over for no more than 100USD. Check Ebay also.

I don't see a crack in the screen. Can there still be a crack in it that isn't visible or not noticeable until you take it apart? If that's the case I'll either buy a new screen or just buy a new phone on ebay for 200bux. Also anyone have any recommended sites on how to replace the screen?

This raises a great question for me. i work in a clean room/static sensative environment and repair and calibrate many different types of electronics (mostly signal generators & spectrum analyzers). I was wondering if anyone here has actually attempted to replace a LCD screen with success. And if so, how complicated the process was. I have downloaded the schematical drawings and have found replacement parts for the kaiser online for extremely cheap. i will post the site as soon as i find it again.

I did a screen replacement on a Wizard, and it wasn't that difficult. just make sure you don't break anything while trying to pry small pieces off to get to the screen.

ITs easy as hell.
I've done it two times with success.
Its only matter of two connection belts and thats all at all .
Screen replacement is really easy here.

Generally you will NOT see a physical crack on the surface. The surface is actually JUST a digitizer ( a separate piece which is built into or ontop of your LCD for input purposes ). The digitizer is basically your touch screen portion of the LCD. What is actually cracked is the thin film below that which contains all of the liquid crystals.
As far as the replacement goes, I believe it is Michael Channon who has the step by step instructions on how to disassemble and replace the LCD. It isnt a hard task from what I can tell. I had taken my hermes ( Tytan ) apart so many times that i could do it in my sleep. Its not a terribly difficult process.

Its not in English but its not hard to follow the pictures. He has done a great job at documenting the procedure.
If you are a bit scared to try it yourself, have a geeky friend do it for you ( maybe get him a date to a movie or something lol )
It should only cost you no more than 50$USD to repair ( Minus the bribe for a date lol )

Thx, I'm gonna give it a shot. I went ahead and bought the screen off ebay from the post by pyraxiate. Worst case I mess it up and buy a new phone of ebay for 150-200, which is what I originally thought I'd have to do, so this at least gives me a chance to save some $$$

Got it all done, actually my pops did it. Works great, he took it apart just like the Mike Channon pics show, don't know if you had to do all of it or not just to replace the screen, but he did. Only one little annoying thing now that it's back together is that a small part of the black plastic out case hangs out just a tab and isn't flush, which makes it a little annoying when hitting the power/standby button on the right side of the phone. But I can learn to live with that I think. thanks for all the help.

correct me if i'm wrong...are you saying that the two halves of the phone (screen and keyboard) don't align properly when the keyboard is closed? if so, i remember a thread in this section of the kaiser forums that details (with pictures) how to possibly fix that particular problem!!!

As was stated before, there is a thread for the case not aligning. I did some quick looking but to no avail. If i come across it ill be sure to post it

I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly. But it's basically the outer case, and around the power button it's not flush. Not sure if you can tell from my pics. I tried also doing a search w/no luck. I'm sure there is some specific name or something other than case that it's under.

When i replaced my faceplate i had the same problem. all i did was push it in...kinda hard, and it poped in, or you could use a plasic flathead and pop it back in...

I tried that, and it doesn't seem to pop in at all.

I think its just like DemoShadow said. I dropped mine once and it seems to be a similar issue. I also just pushed really hard to get it to pop back in. I think its just that clip isnt in place as it should be when it was put back together. If anything, try to take it apart and put it back together

I literally just replaced the screen on my backup Tilt last night. Still got most of it in my head.
What, exactly, do you mean about putting the keyboard back on? Got any pics of where you are now?
This was one of the easiest things I've had to do...asside from it being somewhat tedious. Most of my issues were resolved by MAGNIFICATION! Once I could see what I was doing, there were almost no issues.
I only paid $31.99 on eBay for a screen with free shipping (from USA no less)...less than the $35 I would have had to pay with the insurance through my Provider Dealer...and I didn't have to wait for 3-5 weeks to get it back.
I'd do this for people with broken screens as a service, but I can't guarantee the cost of the screen...it goes up and down too much.
If you can be real descriptive, or have pictures, I'm pretty sure I can help get you back together.

Hi! for couple of weeks my X1 is driving me nuts. Throw is against a wall, place c4 on it, throw it off a buliding, place in volcano, shoot with a .50 sniper, blend it. All of these should kill it.

i stand by my microwave idea

I would not do anything to deliberately destroy your phone since SE will probably discover it. You say your phone is still within its warranty time frame. So I recommend making a list containing all errors. Has your phone got any cracks in the case? Is the optical pad loose? Problems with the screen? Together with the fact that your device turns itself off during the charging process it should be enough to get a replacement under warranty.
I did the same with my phone which suffered from a pixel failure (generally not covered by warranty), a loose optical pad, a crack in the case and the fact that the black paint of the battery cover had come off. Now I got a replacement which is in perfect condition and it did not cost me anything.

My xperia just broke because of the screen ribbon cable, it seems that I used the hw keyboard too much. I guess if you really want to go rma, just switch to landscape too much

What screen replacement do I need?

My Nexus 6 fell and the display broke. Not the screen but the display. The scratch's are inside. My device still works but I can't see anything and the touchscreen doesn't work.

That's the right one.

That replacement has the frame too, if you want to save money and your frame is still in good condition you can just remove the existing frame from the broken screen, no need to worry about hurting the display as it's already broken so just break it loose, in pieces if you have to lol. Then just get one without a frame, just be sure to check the descriptions to be sure they include adhesive tape pre-applied or get a roll of 2mm 3M double-sided adhesive tape for $2 and do it yourself. While your at it you can also use the tape to re-secure your back cover after removing it if it needs any.

That seller it's a $40 difference in price without the frame. Also note how the speaker grills are attached to the frame, NOT the AMOLED. Keep that in mind when taking off your broken screen from the frame. If you are unsure if you can do it and feel safer just getting it with the frame, take 10 minutes before ordering and just try to seperate the broken AMOLED from the frame, if you succeed and find it by looking at it just how the new AMOLED panel would attach to the old frame then save $40 and get just the panel, it's already broken, might as well give it a shot, if you don't think you can attach the new panel to the frame yourself after removing the broken panel, order the one with the frame. ?

And, I've noticed that the phone doesn't heat up when I charge it as it did before (I have a Turbocharger), is the device ok? Is it normal that it doesn't heats up?

It's normal to have it not heat up when charging. Mine doesn't.

What seems weird to me is that the phone usually heated up even if i wasn't using it (I guess fast charge) but now it doesn't.
Is there a way to know if it's charging or know the battery level other than looking and the screen? Because I can't see anything.

You should let the battery completely discharge, so the device turns off. That will help to prevent electrical damage to the components when you are disassembling the phone.

Letting the battery drain to zero is bad for the battery, for one. For two, the battery will be one of the first things disconnected, thus there will be no component damage.

Typed up a long response then posted and ticket was expired lol. All I can think of right now is the phone still works, just can't see anything. Let the battery die, call the phone to see if it's dead or rings/vibrates. After it's dead plug her back up and see if she starts, can call again to check if it's in fact booted into Android. Maybe someone else can think of a better way, I take it you don't have the LED enabled for charging so that sucks. Like the previous poster said, it is not advised to let the battery drain 100%, one time however won't hurt, just don't do it repeatably. Hope you successfully get her up and running again I still have my pre-order Nexus 6, never a screen protector, just a Seidio Dilex Pro case and not a scratch on the beauty, someone needs to make a SD 835 phone with dual front facing speakers before I upgrade!

These fine people are in the town where I live and have very through tutorials. They are also involved in the political battles to allow user repair rights for everything you can imagine, and then some. :highfive:
