I didn't notice this problem until the day before. My battery status is displaying 70% when the phone consider it to be fully charged.
I've drain it to 5% before charging overnight, but the status still display 70%.
I am not sure if this is a problem with my phone or the battery. Any help would be nice.

This is not the status bar problem as I've test out some of the widget.
The phone would only charge up to 70% no matter how long it will remain on the charge.
Going into the battery info in setting also indicated it is at 70%.
At this moment I am draining my phone with max brightness and everything turn on.
Start off at 70% at 9:30am and now (2:00pm) is at 3%
So I guess I should try to charge it full with the phone off
Did you recently flash firmware to your phone? Make sure your battery is fully charged whenever you flash firmware because it will clear the battery data. It seems to me all you need is a battery calibration. There is a procedure posted somewhere. IIRC, you need charg up the battery to 100%, power down, charge 100%, power up again and repeat a few times.
I had the same problem.
After a day of charging the battery fully charged notification appears. As soon as I unplug it the battery immediatly jumps to 70%.
Is there a way to fix this? Perhaps reflashing when the phone is fully charged (which is currently 70%).
I tried the rm /system/data/batterystats.bin but did not remedy this problem.
Same problem here. It has been this way for a month. Tried calibration, different batteries, different ROMS....everything.

using alternative battery widget is not an option if battery stats from settings also displays 70% max
this is very unusual problem - i would suggest:
1) install https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration (phone needs root)
2) drain battery to 0%
3) take out battery for 5-7 minutes
4) put it back and turn on and drain again
5) repeat untill phone will not turn on
6) while still off charge phone to 100%
7) disconnect charger power on the phone, let it boot and use the battery calibration app
8) now let the phone discharge with normal usage untill it powers off (do not reboot, power off during discharge)
9) put the phone to charger, turn it on and let it charge to 100% wo reboots/poweroffs
should be fine

Hey Somator, I am trying your tutorial now. I drained my battery to 0% on my phone. I then would boot it up, it would register 1%, then turn off.
I then put my battery in a coworkers phone today and it read 40% when it previously read 0% on mine. So I depleted the battery on his phone, reinserted it into mine, and I am now currently charging it to 100% while it is off. I will let you know how the rest turns out.
I have tried calibration procedures on stock rom, MIUI, CM7, I9000, and I897 Roms.

//edit: oh you did exact that - well should be fine from now - still wierd why it just 'decalibrated' by so much in the first place
the original charge has helped me, everything is fine
In case someone is looking for an answer here (considering this is the thread that comes at the top of Google's search results), this is what worked for me:
1. Take the battery out.
2. Plug phone into wall charger.
3. Put the battery back in the phone.
4. Let it charge for an hour. Mine said 5% the entire time it was plugged.
5. Remove phone from charge. Remove battery. Put them all together again.
I hope this works for others.

I have Verizon note 4 that can not be rooted, any other options?
hello i flashed telus v5 rom put my phone on charge last night and this morning my phone was on 30% plz can someone help also how do i calibrate battery its not there in open recovery thanks
Did you perform a complete wipe of your phone before installing?
Try installing a different Kernel or look in your setting under "About" and then "battery use" and see what has been using the most battery.

Shutdown phone, charge until 100%, retire battery, wait until apperas ?? symbol, put battery again, it will be at 60% and start charging again.
As you may not flashing a new rom, try the second tip
with phone booted, charge with wall charger (not PC) until 100% (full charge).
After unplug charger and shutdown telephone.
Charge again until 100%. Boot again. It should clean statistics.
I did this also, but using Openrecovery I deleted batterystats.bin file to be sure that statistics are out.
I prefer to charge always via wall charger and with phone off, I notice more long usage during day than charging the phone on. And charging using PC is really very slow, I use only in emergency.
But do not left battery very low (5%) and try to charge via PC and USB, because perhaps it does no boot and you have no phone, I had this problem once, So I was a couple of hours without phone until arrive home and full charge via wall charger.

I just installed CyanogenMod 7 on my milestone using openrecovery. Everything was working perfectly, but the battery was draining like there's no tomorrow.
Started at 50% when I first booted, I downloaded a couple of apps from the Market, and went down to 20% (in the space of about 10 minutes). So I plugged in the phone charger (USB into back of my computer), and then while configuring settings, battery went to 4% (it was checking in 1% increments, which I have since found out that drains the battery). The phone then died. So, the phone was using WAAAAAY more power than the USB port could supply. Anyway, thought I'd let it charge for a while, then go back into the settings, and remove the 1% increments, to try and get normal battery life.
The phone recharges, and automatically reboots. Its still on 4%, but I went in, turned off the 1% increments. Phone dies again.
Charges about 10 minutes, reboots itself again. During this period, I did some research, and found that the battery draining can be caused by excessive CPU usage, resulting in the screen staying on even when it's off (?).
But, alas, no luck. I don't have enough battery to flash the stock SBF.
All I really want is:
a) a way to just have the thing charge without turning itself on, and
b) a workaround to get at least half-decent battery on CM.

Try deleting your /data/system/batterystats.bin before trying this procedure out. You can use an app like Root Explorer to do this. If you're unable to, proceed with bump charging.
Try bump charging:
1. Remove battery, put it back in after a good 2-3 minutes and connect phone to a wall charger. Make sure the phone is still switched off while it's charging.
2. After it finishes charging completely (green LED), let the charger be switched on and connected - remove the battery alone (without switching off charging).
3. After a few seconds, you will see a "?" on your screen, after which you insert the battery back in (while charger is still switched on).
4. Wait till charging completes again (green LED).
5. Plug out charger, wait for 2-3 minutes and plug charger back in and start charging again. It should now be fully charged.
6. Turn phone on while charging, after booting into CM, try OC'ing it to 800MHz interactive governor, apply settings on boot and restart your phone.

I had the same problem some time ago and tried all this to no avail. I even changed to froyomod for some time, but CM7 is far superior so I just came back to it. The problem happened again this morning just after using google maps. I then rebooted and uninstalled all google maps updates. Seems to be working o far.
hey, yeah, just one problem with that - i can't boot into android for longer than about 3 seconds, and now there is no way to revert, as the bootloader says Battery Low.
Can't you boot into recovery, flash another rom and then reboot into android?
Don't charge from usb, use wall charger. That way, the system will boot only to charge-only screen, android system itself not running.
Hey, kabaldan, I found that out.
Charged 100% using the bump method instructed above. Battery life is still worse than useless, 50% in about a half hour.
will performing those other steps help?
Can you try another fully charged Milestone/Droid battery?
If that doesn't work it might be a problem with your phone's hardware. I know it might be a long shot, try cleaning your phone's and your battery's leads (connectors) if they might've accumulated rust/dust or something. Not sure.
Don't know if this is a similar problem but mine goes down in % pretty fast too but then it can stay for 1% for half a day
No, mine definitely dies. At around 5%, although I did turn off the 1% increments, because I heard they guzzled battery.
The battery life is getting progressively better, but as soon as I use 3G, or open any half-decent games, it drops to about 40% in ~.00001 seconds.
Although, to be fair, I didn't get great battery life on stock rom, either. And my ram always seem chokkas. Like usually only have about 50mb, and I'm not running anything too hectic.
Unfortunately, I think I'll get the Samsung Epic as soon as they bring out the GSM version. I just want an android phone with an unlocked bootloader, insanely large screen, and hardware keyboard, not to mention ~20 days battery life. Is that too much to ask?
A couple of days ago the battery on my N1 ran out of juice. After I got back home and got a chance to plug the phone back in, I noticed the battery now doesn't charge above 54%. I've tried another battery and it's the same story, won't go past 54%. I've left the phone off and plugged in for over 12 hours and still, just 54%. I also noticed that the battery usage history does not get cleared after cycling the phone off and on. Lastly, leaving the phone on and plugged in does actually results in the battery discharging. Any help troubleshooting this would be appreciated.
Are you rooted? If so try wiping battery stats in recovery. If not then try and see if when you use it, it lasts as long as it does normally at 100% (I think it probably will) and try and run the battery to 0% and back to 100% (or what ever you can get it to) and see what happens.
So my turbo just turned 2. For the past 6 months or so been having some weird issue. I was on RR Remix for a while, then went to CM14 by BBH27 for a while, and then back to RR, and now on ComputerFreak Stock. I don't have any issue with charging the phone. Quick charge works just fine.
I have had issues where the battery will just be dead even if it was at like 50% and confirmed charging.
I thought maybe it was my stupid charger (I have another that I have yet to test) but then last night, after charging my phone before I went to bed i unplugged it. I woke up around 6:45 to find my phone once again dead. It looks like around 2 am the battery just fell. Dead. Just gone. I go and hit the power button and i got 1%. The battery graph looks as if i turned the phone off. For the most part my battery last all day 12+ hours with some good usage too.
I'm getting ready to flash back to stock now that full stock MM is out now to flash and see if that makes any difference.
For what it's worth, my Turbo would just straight up shutdown when I was on RR. And not go through the shutdown process, just crash to a powered off state. It would happen if the battery was full, low, or anywhere in between. I don't know if that's the issue you were experiencing, but I suppose it's possible.

When this happens and the phone just shuts down, does the battery percentage immediately jump back up when you plug in a charging cable? I was having that problem when using wireless charging a lot. It turned out be a battery calibration issue. You can re-calibrate by holding the power button and KEEP holding it when the "Power Off" dialog pops up. The phone will eventually reboot itself then leave it overnight on the factory turbo-charger.
One warning - Since the marshmallow update, performing this procedure seems to wipeout your BT connections.
