Hi!
I just wanted to update a brand new Galaxy Tab Wifi (GT-P1010), German Amazon Version. Since it should be a present for my mother, I thought of using just official Roms. So I installed Kies (... I hate it from my SGS) and updated to PDA:KM2 / CSC:KM2 (DBT). After this, no other updates can be found and it says that the tab is up to date.
I checkt twice and looked at the settings in the tab and ... yes it also says KM2 here but the android version is just 2.2.1!!!
???
Froyo?
This can't be the latest official firmware, am I right?
How can I get the latest one?
I guess no chance for over the air updates from samsung?
Please help. Only two days until my mother's birthday!
Wifi only is currently only on Froyo. There's a rumor floating around that there's an official update to GB coming, but nothing yet.
Thank you for the info.
Does anybody can recommend a Gingerbread ROM for the Wifi (GT-P1010) which is very stable and fast?
I' m thinking of switching to a cooked rom if there is no other solution since I think Gingerbread is far better than Froyo.
I like DarkyROM for my SGS but I don't know if there is a similar cooking Team for the SGT.
There are currently no roms, or developer support at all for us Wifi users. You can root with Z4root and install oneclicklagfix to get the tab running faster- but for now, thats all the customization you can really look at.
Both Samsung and the Developer community seem to have exiled our poor little tab xDD

Hi,
I've seen a few Froyo versions about for Galaxy S, but is there an untouched official version (vanilla - not Network specific) available? Not found one yet...sorry if i missed the obvious.
Thanks
Phil
There was a guy trying to port vanilla but was stuck at getting the camera etc to work. Last i heard he was trying to get some help from samsung but didnt get anywhere.

Hi guys, just this week I got a new Galaxy Tab from T-Mobile, so far so good, but I have a few questions about it.
1-) This is my first time using Android, is there a better version or ROM for this particular tab (or another that is fully compatible) which I should flash into it which is better or gives me more functionality than the default Android installation that T-Mobile puts on it?
2-) How are upgrades of Android OS obtained? I heard 3.0 is out, any ideas if Samsung or T-Mobile will make it available on these devices?
3-) Can "Line2" be used with it? I noticed when I'm connected to Wi-Fi at home Line2 works, but when I'm connected to 3G it wont work.
4-) Is it easy to install Themes on the Galaxy Tab, any tutorials?
5-) Any specific tricks/tweaks or apps, that are a must have for Galaxy Tab owners?
Thanks in advance!

I also just got my SGT T-mobile. What is the model number of your tablet? What is the Baseband version of your tablet? Have you rooted yours?
Mine's model is SGH-T849, Baseband T849UVJJB, and yes, I downloaded a program from this board which supposedly roots it, after installing and running the commands it said it had successfully rooted my device, now how do I know if it is really rooted?
Also what's the Baseband? lol sorry but I'm lost, this is my first ever tablet and also first ever Android OS device.

We both have the same model and baseband. I'm not sure what baseband is. You can check to see if your tablet is rooted by going to Applications and look around to see if you can find a Superuser icon.
If it's rooted, I guess your next step is to find a custom ROM and flash it.
Do you remember what you used to root your tablet? Was it SuperOneClick?
Yes, it was the SuperOneClick one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
Baseband is the modem you have. The modem controls the phone, wirelass data, wifi, and bluetooth. Yours is JJB.

Well, I'm not an expert but here is my experience:
1. You should flash the new Overcome experience Hermes:
http://overcome.mimzo.com/
There is also the unofficial cyanogenmod beta, but as you said the overcome is fully compatible and it will not change the feel of the Tab, just adds to the functionality.
2. The updates are two types:
# Official, these are over the air and you will find notifications in the notification area to tell you that there is a new update, or may be through kies for Samsung.
# Unofficial, which is basically flashing other ROMs whether official or custom.
# As for Android 3.0 (which is called honeycomb), it is not officially coming to the Tab. May be after the 3.2 announced a couple of days ago, but I still don't think so. Still, you might want to follow this thread as there are trials to get it fully working on the Tab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122959
3. I don't have any idea about this, as I got mine used and then I rooted and flashed it the day I got it.
4. Of course there are themes for the Android. This Overcome I was telling you about has a Gold theme. There are a lot of ways to get themes on the Tab. I myself use different home launchers with different themes. You don't need to flash anything if you are just looking to change the looks of your device. Check this out and let me know if you like it:
Go Launcher EX https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex&feature=search_result
There are a lot other but this is my favorite. You can even change the fonts of the display.
5. The most common used tips and tweaks that you should use is over-clocking/ under-volting which gives you more speed and less battery drainage.
As for the apps, these are my favorites:
Tango, Photfunia, ezPDF reader, Movies (or IMDB), Springpad (or Catch), File Expert, Go Launcher, Go weather, Google Goggles, Google Shopper, Just reader, Splashtop, Plex, GrooveIP. I guess there are more on my device but these are the ones that I found more functional and fun to use.
Hope this helps...
Thanks rangercaptain,
Hey ahmadshawki, thanks so much, I will check out all of your suggestions, does overcome comes with Gingerbread?
Yes it does.

Any 2.2 rom is froyo (frozen yogurt).
Any 2.3 rom is gingerbread.
You can have either "flavor". They are both in the development section. Both are highly recommended.
Hi guys,
I've been visiting this forum for more than 6 months now, but I think this is my first post. I have a T-Mobile SGH-T849 GT-P1000.
Last year I unlocked it and changed it to a Gingerbread Euro. Below is the current setup:
Firmware version 2.3.3
Baseband version P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
Tab has been working fine, with the exception of:
- often does not remember wi-fi hotspots automatically, need to switch off/on wi-fi to do this
- 3G & phone works erratically. I don't use it as a phone, but those times that I tried I noticed the phone would loose connectivity to the mobile network and needed a reboot in order to fix it.
I'd like to upgrade it to Ginger 2.3.6, but which rom should I use? I checked on the forum, but I'm not sure if I should use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380595&page=3
or any other.
Is my modem correct or should I use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902323&page=4
to install JL5 modem?
Sorry for the noob questions.
I have a galaxy tab 7+ sgh-t869 I need to chance my build prop in order to play order and chaos online it doesn't support operating system I have no idea how to chance it or what to change it to please help thanks
my coworker just got a gtab wifi only, ive rooted a bunch of phones before but not this device yet. which roms will i be able to flash on this device?
thanks in advance.
It would seem at the moment no big devs are putting any custom roms out for the wifi only tab (GT P 1010).
There is one rom available but to my understanding its only a stock rom with some bloatware removed and extra language support. (Thread in tab development)
I myself have had the GT P 1010 for almost a month now, rooted with Z4, one click lag fixed but still running stock nastiness. I have posted up here about the possibility of getting a CWM running on our tabs, first priority for me personally, but no one seems to have any answers?
Oh and if my sig still says that its bricked, one word, ODIN. Bloody life saver.

I think he's referring to the Sprint Stock Gingerbread update/rom which i've heard does in fact work on the wifi only tab. There is a rooted version of it available as well. Check the Development thread and you'll find it.
Really!!!!! A gingerbread rom that will work on the wifi only tab?
I was under the impression that no roms designed for the GSM tab would work on the wifi tabs? Different hardware and supposedly a different processor?
Not that I'm doubting you but where did you get your source that it will work on the wifi only tab?
TIA.

Be very careful. I hard-bricked mine when trying to flash gingerbread on 1010. DONT DO IT, if its not stated it works with 1010
Hey Guys I got my galaxy note today! it's awesome!!!....but...I immediately tried to check for updates... but after agreeing with the terms and conditions, it says "Registration is failed. Try Again?".
How can I get around this and update my device OTA?
Here's my phone info:
Model: Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Android: 2.3.6
Baseband: N7000XXKK5
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKKA
have you tried installing Kies on your PC, then connecting the Phone via cable so that Kies can update it?
4.0 isn't available through OTA atm so you'd need to do the Kies thing

I'm doing that right now! Thanks! ... I guess my Galaxy Nexus habits are hard to break! LOL!
Sorry to hijack the thread but I also got my G.Note, but yesterday . Got it from Amazon Germany, and as soon as I took it out and connected it to the Wifi Internet it said that it had found the OTA update for the ICS.
I cancelled the update as I was not sure if it was worth it. I hear so many people saying that Gingerbread runs smoothly but that ICS is a pain. I also hear about all the camera bugs, etc that ICS has.
The question I have is: Should I keep with Gingerbread for a while longer or should I just update to ICS?
Thank you all for your advice.

I have tried Criskelo ICS, CM9, Stunner, Liquid Smooth and various GB roms. Even though I like some features of the ICS rom, I eventually settle for Chrack GB rom. It run smooth with good battery life and I have no problem runing all the applications I needs. I suggest that you use your GB rom for awhile before trying to update.

there were several updates to note (at least on mine, Base/Eplus Contract btw)
before ICS, and since ICS is not yet available OTA i think you can hit update on your phone until there are none left, then you should have the most recent Gingerbread version.
for ICS, see last post: Kies update^^
Sadly i already did the Samsung Kies update to ICS and now i have some battery problems (google cloud service and several other Wakelocks draining like a *****)
apart from that little problem ICS is working fine
Hi all and thank you for your input.
As for the last post from Aiphares, I can confirm that there is an OTA update for ICS for my phone.
If I hit update it says that an important 4.0 ROM is available and that it will be 316mb (if I remember it correctly). If I wanted to update now or later.
So I did hit later to see what your replies would be, as I did not want to be one of those asking for help how to revert to gingerbread because my phone could have horrible battery drain, or any other known ICS bug.
I would really like to have a working ICS on my phone, and hopefully something that would improve the S Pen, so that I could actually use it for my daily annotations (minutes of meetings, etc.).
Why can't Android battery just improve, I remember that from Froyo to Gingerbread the battery got much better. Well we can't have it all with these dual cores running in our pockets.
As for the custom ROMs I first want to try the official ones, and if I am am not happy with them, I'll read and read so to prevent triangles and than I'll try a Custom stable ROM.

Please do you people even read this forum?? If i was you and read all the threads about bugs (eMMC) etc. etc. i wanted to wait a bit more. Ok, you just might get lucky (or not) and wipe the phone ten times but if you're not prepare to go to the store and claim your warranty !!!
Please read the topics about bugs on ICS.

(thanks??)
good to know that there is the OTA update now,
well if you feel uncomfortable you can always wait it out, i'm sure there will be more ICS updates and bugfixes
So i got the 8.9 last week and am pretty happy so far. My main uses are internet surfing and hd videos from youtube and play store. However one of my only complaints is that this thing isnt the fastest. I upgraded to official ics when i first got the tab and its not bad but still id like to install Asop jellybean and overclock the tab to 1.2 or 1.4. However id hate to brick my tab which i see on here all the time. The only problem is i have no idea how to root, even after reading and searching for the past week. My question is could some one tell me or show me a link to show EXACTLY how to root to the newest asop jb from official ics without bricking and then tell me how to oc it? I am such a noob with this, I dont know what kernels or anything is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure how missed this thread in the list. It's stickied at the very top.

Good thing i didn't go a head and try to root. I have official ics installed and apparently you have to flash so,e cmw rom or something but i have no idea how to do that, i have searched the forums and all the instructions are just kind of bland and not real specific. Sad as it is, i am someone who needs exact instructions and explanations of how to specifically complete each instruction. Sorry that i am being a pain. I just bought thus tab on a amazon credit card and have not even, ade the first payment that is why I am so worried about bricking or messing up the tab. Thanks for any help

Hmm. I'd be careful recommending ROMs just yet. He hasn't mentioned which model of 8.9 Tab he has.
Given that he mentions he's already on ICS I'd assume he's probably got a wifi-only P7310. He doesn't mention any other radio types (3G, LTE, etc.).
@Wrebbs, what model 8.9 tab do you have?

I've tried various roms and liked cm10 very much. Had to flash stock 3.2 via odin to get rid of the garbled screen issue and decided to try update OTA to ics that worked and i'm running stock ics on my dutch 7310 now this works fairly well, so i am going to wait untill the battery drain issue is being fixed on cm10 and try again then

Not happy with the stock ICS version of the Tab? Did it upgrade over kies? Are you in the US? I am in Europe and have the 3G version. Have to use a ported rom from 7500 to get ICS.
The ICS I have runs really smooth! Price was good aswell. Strange that your TAB is slow...
Only problem I have is that Adobe Flash gives me some trouble in HD and on some sites.
I tried HC 3.2 Stock, CM10 JB 4.1, SafariKing ICS and ported ICS from 7500 v2 and honestly - If I had stock original ICS I think I would stay with it! The Jellybean ROMs still have issues. in Alpha Beta stages.
The Tracid rom mentioned might be the next rom I try, but still happy with the ICS rom I have. If it aint broke don't fix it... (Itchy though, flashing roms is fun.)
Take it from someone whos hard bricked before, take your time and do your homework. Make sure you know the rom is for your specific device. You're not going to see drastic speed increases even if oc'd. So take your time and re-read everything. Your going to have to flash a recovery first, cwm or twrp through odin. Again, make sure it's for your device. Then you can root or flash a rooted rom. Once again, make sure it's for your device.
