Introduction
This mod adds an option to hide/restore the system bar to the power menu (appears when you press and hold the power button). You can see screenshots at the end of this post. Please read all instructions and requirements carefully before installing.
This is the very first release and stable performance is not guaranteed! Make a backup before installing.
Prerequisites
Retail Wi-fi Tab (7510).
Deodexed ROM based on UEKME stock firmware.
The ROM must have framework-res.apk and android.policy.jar unchanged from stock. This mod overwrites these files. If they have been changed by the ROM, best case you'll cancel some of the ROM modifications, worst case - your device will stop working. If the ROM uses a custom theme or adds elements to the power menu (such as 'Reboot' or 'Boot into recovery'), most likely it isn't compatible. If unsure, ask your ROM developer. In case your ROM is not compatible, ask your developer to include this mod into their ROM.
As of now (September 16), StarBurst ROM should be compatible. I think it'll work on Task650 ROM, but you'll lose extra options that ROM has in the power menu by default.
Installation
Check all the prerequisites!
Make a full nandroid backup!!!
Download the attached update.zip and put it on the sdcard.
Flash from the CWM ('Apply update from SD Card' option).
Reboot (the boot will take a while, it's normal).
Long press the power button to see the updated menu.
Select the "System bar" option.
Click "Allow" in the superuser prompt.
Repeat 6-7 to restore the system bar.
Troubleshooting
Long first boot (several minutes showing Samsung logo) is normal. Boot animation with sound playing over and over is not.
If the mod doesn't work, try rebooting. If the problem persists, post logcat.
If you device doesn't boot, double-check all the prerequisites. If everything seems in order, post logcat.

update.zip is attached to this post (mirror)

Works on Task650's V6 Rom.
Awesome. Can't wait for this to be baked into a few ROMs. Great idea.
Should be in every ROM from now on. More screen real estate = massive win for videos, gaming, you name it.
Excellent work.

It will probably be less useful for games than you think, since most games have graphic resources designed for specific resolutions. My guess is that you'll see a lot of black margins in games. Also not very useful for videos, unless you watch a lot of old movies that are not widescreen.

this would be great for web browsing for me. the stock browser always take precious real estate for tab on top and the system bar on bottom. i always looks squeeze to me. this is one of my complaint comparing to ipad2 aspect ratio.
dolphin hd solve this issue. but with this mod it will be even better

You can hide tabs and address bar in the stock browser by enabling "Quick controls" in settings (Labs section)
Worked for me on Overcome. Lost extended power and themed settings menu.

I know this not exactly a bug or anything but i just want to say that if anyone one else have a better idea to toggle the hide/unhide control please suggest. While using the power button is the most obvious way, i cant help but to mention that its not exactly user friendly in term of multitasking.

I haven't tried this out yet. But to keep the extended power menu you will have to add the strings for them. I'm going to update my rom tomorrow with this added to the extended power menu. I'll post it here if the OP wants me to also.

I was thinking more for emulation unless you think they would not stretch using the "fullscreen" modes.
I do watch quite a bit of 4:3 content too, I am assuming this would stretch downward to use the added pixels.
Web browsing will be nice too.
Maybe overthinking it lol.
Hidding the control bar is very usefull and handy together with Buttom Savior and Elixir Widgets. Now I always have my control keys in the right side of the screen wher are more easy and fast to reach.

This was created for the Vibrant, but I see no reason why it would not be compatible with the Captivate. Enjoy.
This Metamorph changes the status bar and status icons to the Sense theme. Make sure you are using the latest version of Metamorph (1.9.13 or higher). I'm not responsible for anything you do to your phone.
WARNING:
Make sure USB Debugging is enabled in Settings -> Applications -> Development.
If you're using the standard TouchWiz launcher, this morph will remove the Messaging icon from the bottom dock. To get it back, open your applications, press menu, view type, customizable. Menu again, then edit. Find the Messaging icon, drag it back into the dock, then menu, save, menu, view type, alphabetical grid (or whatever you had it on before.)

does this change the battery so that it is actually accurate?

Yeah, the battery uses the HTC scale to show level, not the completely retarded Samsung scale that always shows damn near full.
This might be a dumb question, but I'm new to android so I'm gonna fire away anyways. I really prefer the way this made my notification bar look, but there is one thing that seriously bothers me up there, although it isn't directly related to this thread.
Is there any way to change the notifications for apps in the notification bar on the left side? In particular, I hate the way the juicedefender notification looks, and would like to change it to something... less colorful. Is this possible?
Short answer: Yes, if you're dead set on doing it.
Long answer: Metamorph wasn't really designed for Market apps, but it has been done. You would need to create an icon, and then build a metamorph zip around it. You could also pull the app from your computer, remove the icon, replace it with a new one, and resign the zip file. If you're not sure what you're doing, both methods will be a pain in the ass, but luckily there are plenty of tutorials on XDA.

Thanks, I sent you a PM to prevent the further derailment of the original thread.
On a more on topic note, every time I look at my notification bar I like it more and more. The battery icon does seem more accurate, and it didn't affect the brightness control swipe action.
this WILL work if using a launcher separate from TouchWiz right? i use LauncherPro, and just making completely sure before i try using it.

Yes. This modifies the system framework, not the launcher. Technically this morph will work on any HDPI android phone.
What do you mean by not supporting market apps? I can't put apps on the home screen?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
is there anything special I need to do to calibrate the battery icon? I'm at 67% battery right now and it's showing the same scale as the old samsung icon (i.e a sliver shaved off to denote the battery is between 50%-75%)
Do I sideload this onto my captivate or how do I install it??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Install Metamorph from the market, and move the file in the download link to your phone. There will be a folder called AndroidThemes on the root level of your SD card. Open Metamorph and locate it, the hit extract. After it extracts, select the applications you'd like to modify, or just hit Apply All.
Thanks Man I Got It And It Was Completly Easy Greatly Appreciated
This looks great, thanks for the info. : )

I was explaining to a previous poster that Metamorph wasn't designed to be used to theme market apps. You can put whatever you want on the home screen. This morph just replaces the images. It doesn't change functionality at all.

It's possible that the Samsung battery fiasco runs deeper than just the images. I thought mine was showing a more realistic scale, but I could easily be mistaken.
I ran this and my phone just cut to black after applying 4/4 and now won't start?
edit: sorry, stupid, gave it time, pulled the battery, restarted... it's working fine... I just got a big over-anxious
It will soft reboot after applying the framework-res package. As long as it's allowed to run, you will be fine. If you did something stupid, such as pull the battery, you'll need to push framework-res.apk to /system/framework over ADB from recovery in order to get it to boot again.

I sat waiting for a solid 5 minutes with nothing happening. I tried holding down the power button for varying periods of time, to no avail. Plugged in/unplugged USB: nothing...
Eventually said "**** it" because it wasn't responding to anything, and pulled the battery. Replugged the battery, booted fine, the new framework installed just fine.
edit: I should note that I have removed the standard e-mail.apk (not the gmail one) and it tossed out a comment saying it wasn't there, but I assumed it would just skip it and move on (that's the only thing I could imagine that would cause it to sit at the black screen for so long)
Just thought I'd pass this along. Before the NS, I used the hell out of "Extended Controls" ... Sadly, most of the toggles I would have liked to use do not work with the NS (2.3 compatibility issue?). Emailed the dev and got responses right away saying it will be updated next week. Next week came and gone ... came and gone again. Dev is probably behind with RL stuff so sooner or later it will be updated. In the mean time, I found an awesome alternative with more features ... and its free.
Widgetsoid2.X
Highly customizable power control widget ... and can even be configured to add a power control widget from your notification bar drop down.
Yeah I really like widgetsoid. Since cm team still hasn't got the flashlight working I use its flashlight widget inside the notification bar. Works great.

Odd. Both my wife and I use extended controls fine. I find if you restore it via Titanium, it doesn't work but if you do a fresh install of it, everything functions great. Good find though.

The widget isn't really not put in the notification bar. It puts the image of your widget there but when you click on a power control it brings up the power control in an overlay of your screen where you then select which power control you want to turn on/off. For me (not short on screen space) its no quicker than using regular widget on the screen.
thanks! I've been using extended controls even though it wasn't fully operational w/gingerbread. Just dl'ed widgetzoid and bluetooth works! Liking the vertical option too..
I was really impressed by Widgetsoid and its developer 2 weeks ago. I found a bug, emailed the dev, and got a response in like an hour. Within like 2 hours of emailing him, he tracked down the bug and incorporated a fix into the next release. Now that's service.
we reported it a while ago

(p.s. google translate is your friend )
The thing I really like is how easy it is to edit existing widgets. Saves a lot of time if you just want to add or remove something from a power control type bar
the app is good, no doubt, but it's a major pain in the back to configure
some options are no longer available after you hit apply
so if you ever want to change them again, you can't (for example the invisible option, there are a few more that are no longer accessible after it was saved)
and the only alternative is to delete it, and create a new one

Guess that's why I'm sticking with extended controls. Profiles are so easy to edit.
but once you master this App, it's a big treasure chest!
once everything was properly setup and configure, it easily replaced 7+ apps
TeslaLED
tons of On/Off Widgets
Ace Volume
Battery info
crap load of other ones i uninstalled
i setup 4 rows, maybe gonna add 1 more for 5 rows for Apps
that's the nice thing about this app, you can create custom shortcuts to make it launch your most used apps, from the Notification area
i simply love it

are you guys able to enable/disable Data with Widgetsoid 2.x on Nexus S using Gingerbread 2.3.. (unrooted?).
Most items work, but this one does not toggle Mobile Data on/off on my phone. I dunno if this is a security limitation right now with this OS.

Yeah I noticed this too. Was a shame, cause this is the main reason I was after this. I guess this functionality of directly enabling/disabling from the task bar cannot be enabled in stock roms without direct framework changes.

Hi,
Widgetsoid need root only for the reboot toggle
For the data on Nexus S just restaur your apn, check your data is enable and go to global preferences of widgetsoid and check "disable all apn".

Android don't allow event on notifications it's an android limitation not an widgetsoid error/limitation.
On HTC rom it's works directly because HTC have modify android source code to allow this. HTC users are lucky. Next version have an option to disable popup after click on notification.
Thanks a lot guys for your support !! This build just because i love you all and i got featured yey !! CM9 kernel still but works great for a initial release !!

To be honest, This is not tablet mode at all, It has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks. This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode. This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even system components individually.
Remember, Android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigation bar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course. Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on. This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better.
Now for every element that you like chose a mode (PhoneUI, Phablet/Nexus-7UI, TabletUI) and/or a size. You are 100% independent of the system DPI which runs nicely in whatever value it has been assigned to. You do not need to boot your phone into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, phone, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself. This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of your phone.
NOTE: The JB version is work in progress. These are alpha releases.

2. Search this thread and Cyanogenmods aswell (its our base) for possible reoccurences of your issue and hopefully solutions that may have come up.

FAQs For PARANOIDANDROID :
Global density :
Is the one used by your hardware configuration and all non PAD touched applications. It's the old one that you can change with build.prop, and this one can get you outside of tablet mode - Phone mode. Don't touch it if you dont know what you're doing. This one has nothing to do with PAD or PAL, as it's the one designed by google.
Default SystemUI DPI :
User interface density, can be reflected on statusbar, Recent apps, etc. This one can't get you outside of your current mode.
Default User DPI :
Is the one used when your app is not on pad.prop list, so when you run a new app that it's installed by you, and not on /system/app, it will run at this density. This one cant get you outside your current mode neither.
Some Other Facts :
:: You cant change framework dialogs (like when you hold power button) density on tab mode yet, don't waste your time (it's limited from 120 to 128 global density so it's not a huge difference)
:: Keyboard must be on the same global density, for tablet mode (i have not tried phone mode)
:: Disable Settings>System>Statusbar>Auto Hide statusbar
:: If you see the dock on launchers in tablet mode, and not the old layout, this is NORMAL, it was ugly before, and now it's preset to phone mode at 240 density. If you want to get the old ugly tablet mode for launchers, go to settings > paranoid > hybrid settings > list apps, select your launcher, put density to 120-140 and put in on tablet mode
:: I'm not the responsible that some apps, being on phone mode, and seted up to tablet mode looks ugly. Google is. Go blame google!
:: The message that appears every time that you change DPI or layout mode for any app IS NORMAL, we put in there so changes can be applied, APP IS NOT FORCE CLOSING, we're asking you to force close, please read at least!

Thanks, works great on my T running Curiosity 1.2. Every mm counts on these phones!
My fault... I didn't set the mode to "pie"...
thanks for share
Thanks for this. I'm planning to upgrade to a T very soon and this will be very useful.
However..
I think I may be able to do one better and put these keys in the drop-down notification screen. Which means no extra app's, just a bit of modding.
But I'll need someone to test it on..

I'm willing to test for you. Just drop me a pm with modded files. Preferably in cwm flashable zip.

It'll be in a flashable zip (if I can actually do it!).
I use the Universal Flashing Tool which automatically generates a backup. Very handy for trying out mod's!

I haven't had a chance to work on this yet, but that's a good point. I can probably put the back button in the statusbar but the full-screen issue is a good point. There's not much I can do about that. The camera button can probably be remapped so that's the home button, but that's a bit impractical.
You can always exit games without the home and back buttons anyway

That's not a bad idea!
This should be possible. Sounds like we'd need to do some smali editing.

Hello Fish,
Finally I can modify the Navigator Button Size by myself
I search many post, no one can tell me how to solve the aapt bammi issue
After a long long search, I found a post said, if aapt not work then bababababa...
The method is, build the unchange version of the framework-res.apk first
after that, modify the res/dimens, then build the modified version
Extract resources.arsc from both unchange / modified framework-res.apk
use the Binary different software to compare which address value is different
After locate the address, and modify the original framework-res / resources.arsc
But the address is not the same, but the pattern is almost the same, so need to search
Use Hexeditor to edit the value which you want "you changed"
Then put back the resources.arsc to the org. framework-res.apk
Then finish~~~~~
PS: modify the Hex address, call up my memory of playing Nitendo to modify the save file or even crack the PC games password ...ha...
I hate how cluttered the status bar is on the S6. So I spent some time rearranging and hiding stuff. Still lots of work to be done but I think its worth sharing. Also, if anyone out there could deodex this B I'd be very grateful. I'm stuck on a couple apps...So here's what it looks like right now. Center clock, hid the battery icon, hid the BT, sound and alarm icon. I got rid of the sfinder and quick connect buttons in the pulldown, and the brightness slider. The ONLY "bug" with the current apk is the status clock shows on the lock screen.
If you do decide to check this out, make a backup first! The systemui is deodexed, so you have to delete the 2 odex files in /system/priv-app/systemui/arm64. Then Paste the apk over the old one, set permissions and reboot. Your phone WILL lock up when you paste it. A reboot clears it up.

We'll probably never see AOSP on this phone so might as well make the best with what WS have ??

"We'll probably never see AOSP on this phone so might as well make the best with what WS have" - A curious prediction - any hints on why? As far as i know, we have kernel source (as used for TWRP), easy to do root, and an unlocked bootloader. If there is any S6 that can get an AOSP build (unofficial of course), its this one..
Exynos. The S5 variants from over a year ago that have the Exynos still don't have AOSP. Never is probably to definite, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
Yeah but how many people did they have working on the Exynos? Most of the world was on Snapdragon. Now they have no choice.
We'll see...
I noticed that the status icons are grey compared to the clock. It didn't look like yours was like that from your screen shot, so I'm wondering if they're supposed to be like that or not.

I'm color blind so I hadn't noticed haha. Yes they are gray. Do we prefer the white or the gray? I can make em match.

They always have a choice - i think it is giong to depend on the direction Samsung takes in the future with the note 5 and beyond - if they continue to use Exynos exclusively for new phones - and they make those phones compelling - then we have a greater liklihod that will happen, IMO.
I hope so - even though I mostly use Touchwiz - I like the variety that having AOSP roms offers. I am still stuck in the world of not wanting to lose the Samsung Camera when I flash AOSP roms - and because you do lose samsung camera on AOSP I typically haven't flashed AOSP very often - it would be so cool if the camera could be ported - but I doubt it ever will be...
I probably won't end up staying with AOSP but I test everything.
I'm already working with @chenxiaolong to get his dual-boot patcher apk to work on the S6 Edge. I believe we have support just no roms to test yet

Can you mod the systemui to hide the following:
s finder
quick connect
am/pm
battery percentage (i can't believe theres no option in settings to hide this!)
Please and thank you.
Odexed.
Would you be able to mod this SM-G925T SystemUI from the latest OCG? https://mega.co.nz/#!Ix8jSahT!b9xWtnvf-1G5b7oAdjb8R-36LioVLGKLzQ-QYyfDrDA

Either way, it'd be nice to hide the am/pm and quick connect/sfinder stuff that I don't use.
The app drawer is aweful. You have to hit organize each time you install an app. Also you cant swipe left from letter A. Not happy with this.
