Question about phone parts - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my heros front panel (where the home back search menu and track ball are) is lose and looks like it will fall off... its barely hanging on... will sprint fix it or will they give me the only option is insurance? because i dont want to spend 100 bucks for this phone... lol i paid less for it

If it's over a year it would be insurance I'd imagine. It also doesn't sound like normal wear & tear. Really you'd need to call them or take it in to know I'd think.

[Q] [Question] Will Sprint exchange my hero?

I have one of the Hero's that will not let me overclock past 691, plus there is a crap load of dust underneath my screen.....do you think Sprint would exchange my phone for one that will let me overclock into the 700's?
How long have you had it, out of curiosity
...and I doubt they'd do it if that's the reason you tell them you want a swap!

It is just under a year, I am probably going to just upgrade to the Evo in December since I am due for an upgrade then. But it annoys me that I can't overclock the way most of you guys can.
I always call them rather than go in. Tell them you live 20 miles or so from the nearest repair center. They will transfer you to a truobleshooter, the Hero has a known speaker problem. Say when using the phone you can barely understand because the speaker is crackling. That worked for me, one of the 4 replacements I have gotten

It also helps that the phone you want to replace is your primary line. One I want to try next is the USB, this way they dont know if it is your phone or the charger. They will have to send a complete kit (new phone) rather than a replacement.

[Q] Question: Want to sell a 'dead' Hero...

and I need to know the best way to do it.
Before I begin, this isn't a solicitation for a sale.
I'm going to be getting a new phone. Currently, I have a Hero along with my gf's Hero that she broke last April. She dropped it on a hard bathroom floor. The screen is still intact but the trackball popped out and I never found it. Also, the unit doesn't power up. That's the biggest issue I'm facing. I disassembled it and tried to see if the contacts were broke. They didn't seem to be.
I was going to sell both phones together. Sort of a 'you get 2 phones but one doesn't work...use for parts...'. Where my screen has a slight, 2cm scratch, hers is perfect. Mine has the dust under the screen issue, hers doesn't. Mine was one that had the paint come off the power button issue, hers did not.
My main concern is how to get rid of any data on her phone. I'm guessing there isn't a way to do it unless I can get the thing to boot up. If I can't, would I be better off just selling the screen and housing and ditch the 'guts'?
Thanks a lot for your input.
Wouldn't you assume that if it can't boot up that odds are Simone else may not be able to either, hence, no access to her info...

I thought about that. However, I'd hate to find out that there was just one solder point that wasn't allowing it to power up and a person could fix it with relative ease.

may be obvious
Why not just build the sweetest hero you can, from the two, then dump the sensitive materials.
Like what, with 2 screens? Lol
I would if I had the patience and know-how. I can take stuff apart but it doesn't go back together as well. My luck, id toast the other phone as well.

Easy fix.
1. Go to local hardware store.
2. Purchase biggest hammer your budget allows.
3. Return home.
4. Use biggest hammer to "erase" data thoroughly.
5. Gather up data pieces and place in a baggie.
6. Throw baggie into trash.
7. ???
8. Profit.

Ha! Funny stuff. I could easily make a killing considering I have several hammers at home already capable of doing the job. Profit galore.

Rehab for smartphone owners

So mine HTC Evo 3D was picked for warranty today by HTC. I needed make the choose, or live with an dust part under mine screen or not have mine new HTC Evo 3D for about 1 a 2 weeks.
The dust part.
So I made choose to let them fix the problem and now I have rehab, I can't check the time unless there is somewhere a clock, I can't check or answer mine mail dure breaks on work and I'm not reachable until the phone returns.
I guess many off you also miss your smartphone if its gone for warranty and it feels like rehab.
If it helps....find a iPhone and smash and burn it.....might get your mind off things bud :/

Lol no the iPhone I would in fact accept as temporary smartphone while mine phone is away for warranty.
But when the store where I bought it wanted to turn it for warranty and give me a temporary phone, I said no, but now I did it directly via HTC and don't have a temporary phone, but I think doing direct via HTC is faster as via the store would be slower.
They would send it to HTC to, but it would probably take longer for me to get it back as it goes via the store.
I understand what you are going through. I am addicted as well and I donĀ“t know what I would do without it, even if it was for a few days. I have a friend that works in a drug-rehab clinic, and he told me that many people can deal with drug whitdrawal but they keep on desperately asking for their smartphone!!!

why would you do that?
--sent from my glacier.
It has been wensday since I'm having smartphone rehab. I got the following symptoms: I don't have any grasp off time right now, because the smartphone is also mine clock and to make it even worse there is not even one clock on mine new temporary workplace.
Further more I'm not able to set alarms myself, mine smartphone is also mine alarm clock and I'm not able to listing to music on the go and ofcourse I can't check mine mail during the workday.
And I'm not reachable.
Dude I just went to the store and forgot my phone and almost had a panic attack so I feel your pain lol

Insurance claim thru Verizon

So my phone is pretty ****ed up, and if I can't fix it I am just gonna have to break it physically and take advantage of the insurance I got on this phone.
My question is, since the LG REVO is pretty old now a days, and they don't even sell it at verizon anymore, at least not online or at any of the stores in my area, and the lady I talked to on the phone from verizon said they don't sell em anymore. But what I was wondering and didn't ask her, was if my phone breaks and I claim the insurance for a replacement phone, and since they don't have my phone anymore, what will they do? Will they go backwards and give me a ****tier phone or will they be cool and give me the next step up. Either way I assume it will be a refurbished phone but I was just curious what kind of phone they might give me.
Any thoughts?

If your phone is messed up and your still under contract they may still send you a replacement at no cost to you... So call them first to try to warranty it out instead of paying for the insurance replacement.... But that's my thoughts on it.... Either way they probably going to send you another Revo
Sent from my Broken Out 2.1 VS910 4G powered by Mt using xda app-developers app
Yeah, most likely it'll be a refurb Revo, though you might be able to say, "look, I had trouble with it before it physically broke, can I get something else?" And they might say yes. Some have gotten Razrs that way,one got a Droid 4, someone even got a Gnex. More likely they'll offer something like a Spectrum. I'd be stunned if they tried to give you something inferior to the Revo.
"Inferior to a Revo"? You mean like a 5" chunk of 2x4 with icons and buttons drawn on it with a Sharpie?

In all seriousness, while my time with the revo wasn't bad, it'd be hard for them to come up with an inferior replacement now that phones have come so far. I mean they'd have to go back to something that doesn't have 4g for one thing...not gonna happen.

That made my day. I'm counting the minutes until I can get a new phone.

What do you think Its worth?

Well today by accident my phone got ran over. I had taken it out of pocket because really its to big to keep in pocket an crouch all the way down to work on a car. Its okay its just the repeated up and down with the shifting in pocket puts it in some tight situations that could cause the screen to snap. Well I set it on the hood of the car, fixed what needed to be fixed with the car. I then test drove it forgetting I had left the phone on the hood of car. I remembered when I seen it fly off. I went back to get it. Parked put my flashers on. I could see my phone it was fine as it had a case on it. It was 10ft from me. Some **** head didn't even slow down I tried to stop him, but yeah not jumping in front of a car going 55mph or so. Ran over it front and back tires. Well phone works had someone call me. But the screen is shattered and digitizer is destroyed can't see anything on screen to answer phone or use it. So what do you think its worth? Back of it is still mint, camera lens and all.
Nothing

Wow that really sucks. I agree it's really not worth anything - you can probably sell the back cover, battery, and the case -- if they're in good shape.
But you should see if you can get a replacement -- warranty almost never covers damage like this, but you never know...

Nope, I used a Visa based debit card. I kinda figured it would be worth around $200 still as it just needs a digitizer and LCD. It still works other wise receiving calls buttons light up, and it vibrates still. I will have to see if At&t can do anything for me but I doubt it.
Update: It will cost me $232.00 to have Samsung fix the phone. Doing some math, the phone must be worth closer to $400 still.
Do you not have mobile insurance?
