Any reason behind it and a way I could fix it?

I'm not sure if this is just with Serendipity, but I had a problem where my computer wouldn't recognize one of my drives on my Captivate even when I put it in mass storage mode.
Try disconnecting and reconnecting again. It takes me 2 tries always for some reason for it to properly recognize my drive.
No, I retired it several times and it still didn't work.

Hi guys, i know this topic has been talked to death but i literally tried everything. 3 cables, 4 computers. i have 2 captivate and one of them needs to be sent back for repairs, but i cannot restore to stock. The phone is fully working, with access to CWM and download mode, but my computer just wont recognize it. I have to send it back to rogers but there is a huge ATnT load screen on it
did any one find a fix to the usb problem? i just need to use ODIN
OR is there any way to CWM back to stock from CM7, and changing the splash screen?
thanks
edit: forgot to mention that the phone can charge though usb, it gives me the "USB device not recognized" thing on all of my computers
Are you on CM7 right now?
im currently on MIUI but i could flash to CM7 from an external microSD
its the drivers. sec, ill find the ones that solved it for me.

which side were you unplugging? the phone or the computer?
Use AIO toolbox to install correct drivers, then never use it again, worked great for me!

i think i might have mismatching boot loaders, which is why its causing the problem. is there a way to check which version of boot loaders you have? and can you change boot loaders without using a USB?

bump, no one has any solutions?
Give this a try
1. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284#
Once the last # is hit, the PhoneUtil application is launched. Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA. Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
2. Plug the USB cable.

thanks for the reply but CM7 doesnt support USSD from what i've been reading, and does nothing when i type that in
What I had to do to get my recognized by odin was go into download mode and then pull the battery and brick my phone and then connect it to kies and it will repair the drivers then use jig to get into download mode and flash as normal
---------- Post added at 09:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:18 PM ----------

use the odin and drivers provided in post 1 and check
Delete all existing drivers and Kies before installing the ones nokiamodeln91 mentioned. Make sure you're connecting cable to mobo usb ports not front.

kies does not work if the phone csc and pda does not match. *#1234# on dialer and post the info.
---------- Post added at 11:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 PM ----------
the odin pic you posted, what is that.? The phone looks connected
I'm not sure what you think is wrong with PC Odin. Based on the second pic attached, odin is recognizing your phone in download mode, the initial yellow com4 is normal. Close out of Kies (end the process with task manager), start odin (right click and open as administrator), put the ICS tar.md5 file in PDA, go into download mode, plug in your phone, if it turns yellow, then hit start. If it doesn't turn yellow, use a different cable, use a different port.
hi bro
yes pc odin detect but not in download mode that pic is when phone is "on"
thats why i am confused.

What's going on with your csc? you may need to flash the firmware you're currently on again. Unknown csc is the reason Kies isn't letting you update. Look for it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20963730&postcount=3. After you flash the firmware, wipe your sd card (backup anything you need before you flash and wipe). But the question remains, what do you mean odin is recognizing your phone while its ON? I'm as much confused as you are now. Are you sure you're in download mode? You pressed vol down + home + power at the same time? Did you follow the exact instructions I posted earlier?
I replied to your PM op, check it
he means the odin can see the phone when the phone is ON normally as in on the home screen.. but then he puts the phone in download mode, it is not recognized..

Hi,
I had the same problem. My phone was well and truly bricked. The ONLY screen I could get to was the Bootloader screen i.e. "Downloading... do not turn off target"
Couldnt get into Recovery mode at all
My phone wasnt being recognised by the PC at a fundamental level and there was no Odin COM connection.
- Make sure USB cable from phone to PC is in a rear USB slot that connects direct to the motherboard of your PC
- Take your phone battery out
- Take out SIM card and any external SD card
- Press the On/Off button on your phone (while the battery is OUT!)
- Insert cards back then battery back
- Plug USB to phone if you havent already (whether it was plugged in before or after didnt seem to matter in my case)
- Press on/off phone button for 5 secs
- Do key combo to go to Bootloader mode
- Somehow the phone was now visible to my PC as the attached screenshot appeared on my PC as it loaded two drivers
-I had odin open at the time and as soon as the second driver loaded the com port became visible in odin
not sure if this will work for you but having been in this position i know at this stage we will try anything!
i have tried multiple cords, on multiple usb slots on multiple computers, not even new hardware found shows up i have kies installed on one of the machines, i have tried with and without usb debugging, and odin doesnt see it, on any mode, recovery usb storage doesnt work......my rom is CM7 my model is GT5830D on the Koodo network. i wanna get odin to see it so i can flash the stock rom again. any ideas?
maybe usb storage doesnt work on your rom...try downloading another rom on ur mobile phone(not cm7) and then try to connect it to pc.

As ur cell is rooted kies wont recognise ur sga. Try one thing, search for USB DEBUGING app on play store n den try it on. n if it fails then try a new custom rom. I suggest The Myth2 www.themythace.com try it. hit thanx if helpd
You have CM7, that's why..
Kies wont work on CM7

well, i installed The Myth2 and still nothing, im guessing at this point. my phones usb port is damaged.
Try to disable USB debugging. Go to Settings > Applications > Development

It says My HTC on device manager when plugged in.
It´s says wating-for-device when the fastboot client on the phone is not activated. Which leads me to belive you are not fastboot mode. When the phone is turned on as normal you can get there by typing "adb reboot bootloader". If you also have adb on your computer.
Or when turned off, hold power + volume down. This will enter the phone in bootloader state. Scroll with volume buttons to fastboot and press power to confirm. IF there is a usb connection when entering the bootloader the phone will automatically enter fastboot mode and the above navigation through the menu should not be needed.
There will be a red text declaring fastboot usb when you are set up.

That's not really helpful is it, why waste your time posting something like that?
Supremazy, usually when adb can't find your device and all drivers are installed correctly it means you don't have USB Debugging mode turned on in the developers option on the phone. Enable that and then try again.
Because there us a separate thread for this question

So I am currently in the process of trying to flash a recovery drive onto my samsung galaxy mini however whenever i connect my phone in download mode my computer says windows can not recognise the device however it recognises my device when in all other modes. I have tried re installing drivers factory and resetting my phone several times. Please help if you know how! Thanks
P.s. I have attached a picture of the message i am given.
So maybe you don't install driver phone yet , right ?
---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:05 PM ----------
Or should maybe try restart your computer to give all drivers read properly into your system computer .
thanks but didn't help
Thanks for the advice but it didn't work, p.s. what do you mean about not installing drivers yet, they are required
Also the problem is that my computer detects the phone but can't read it essentially
