[Q] Stock Eclair zImage? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I tried rooting my mother's SGS with the cyanogen wiki guide (using heimdall to flash a zImage)
Unfortunately I got a bit ahead of myself and the zImage was for a froyo rom.
So, the phone no longer boots (I can still get to recovery and download mode)
But I cannot find a stock zImage to flash back onto the phone,
so if anyone has one or knows where I may acquire one, it would be much appreciated.

Download a new ROM from www.samfirmware.com
Use a Windows PC and not a Mac. They're much more reliable, i feel.

Managed to use a custom eclair kernel to get it working again.
Used this kernel

[Q] How do I root a Samsung Captivate with the basebuild KB1?

I having been trying to root and unlock my Samsung Captivate and I have constantly been hitting dead ends. I have tried various apps and YouTube clips and nothing seemd to work. I know someone out here can help me unlock this phone. I rather learn how to unlock it than pay $50. I NEED HELP!!!!
Phone Specs:
I don't have AT&T Sim Card
Base: i897uckb1
Firm: 2.2
Kernal: 2.6.32.9
I am new to this "unlocking and rooting" world, so I have been learning while i'm going, please bare with me in advance.
The last program I ran to unlock the phone was "OneClickUnlock." After it went through its whole deal, my phone read - "E:signature verification failed". I have no idea what to do from here...PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!
There are plenty of threads that cover both these issues.

what you need to do is read. thats how you learn
i would agree with pirateghost but i find that people do things all @$$ backwards around here and give out the most time consuming ways to do things.
ok you already have the odin one click installer, is that the one the brings it to jf6?
does the phone boot? or does it enter recovery and give you that message?
since setting up adb might be too much too soon the best way will be to get the phone back to a bootable state if it is failing to fully bootright now. if the phone is a newer model and came factory installed with kb1 it is posible that you need a different one click installer, infact dont bother with the one click installers, it is faster to use the full oding to flash a kernel with cwm installed by default.

this is the rogers 2.2 rom, first one i found and better anyway. use the odin and pit and .tar in the downloads in that thread.
select repartition for good measure and flash the the above rom, the .tar goes in the pda slot. the 512.pit goes in the .pit slot, that's all that is needed.
after you flash your phone back to working condidtion, use odin to flash a custom kernel, the kernel must be in .tar format
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=547852&d=1300708475
^this is speed mod, maybe the most popular and stable, if the phone will boot into the rom then you can start here.
put the kernel .tar file in the pad slot in odin and flash it in download mode, no .pit is needed.
with this kernel you can flash .zip files. you can root or skip strait to flashing a rooted rom, you may also have luck with one of the att kb1 kernels with modifications like skull cap or firebird if you like the stock rom, which the bluetooth calling needs an att or a rogers kernel and modem to work.
most people arent .tar-ing the kernels they build. yet all the users like to flash to stock before a flash, seems to me since you are sitting at odin, flash a kernel and shorten the whole process.
The reason you get the signature failed is because your recovery mode is a type called 3e the 3e recovery mode doesn't allow unsigned packages such as the unlock. What you need to do is get a kernal that has the 2e recovery mode in it and flash that, then you can root using anything and flash update. Zip files, you will need to follow a guide for that though, you can find one by searching "flash 2e kernal on captivate" in google

[Q] im lost????

i'm trying to figure out how to just get to where i can flash a rom, my phone is sgh-I897 running 2.2 froyo.uckb1
if i have read some of the stickys right i need to use odin to flash back to stock or flash a different kernel is this correct? to get around the 2e-3e sig.verif.
could someone please point me in the right direction? from what i can tell there are alot of ways to do this or maybe not??? which is the safest or shortest..
thanks to any that can help me out.....
Yes, you need to get past the stock 3e recovery before you can do anything.
Method 1) simple, easy. Use the script from the 3e sticky in general section (post 3 from TRusselo) to patch from your computer. Then you can flash CWM (through update.zip or ROM manager on the market if you are rooted), and flash any number of FroYo ROMs. NOTE: you cannot flash a GB ROM from FroYo.
Method 2) kill fly via sledgehammer, possible risk, and 3-button problems later depending on build number of phone. Put phone in download mode (power off, hold volume up and down, plug in USB) flash via Odin back to 2.1 stock. (Different Odin will fix 3button if you know it will be an issue) then flash CWM, and flash FroYo ROM desired. Odin *can* brick your phone if something goes wrong; cable unplugs, battery removed, etc.
Im sure there are more ways, but those are the most common and easiest.
Recovery is in the kernal, so a new kernal will fix, but you have to replace or mod the 3e recovery before you can flash a new kernal.
My suggestion is the windows script file, its easiest, and can't brick your phone.

this is false. you can flash a kernel in ODIN and completely bypass 3e recovery altogether.
there are several kernels that are ODIN ready......
Read the before flash posts, then read them again. It will save you a ton of headaches down the road. And almost every rom has step by step instructions-read these next.
Please search before opening a new thread. All of this is in the threads. On a side note. A fast way is not the safe way, and the safe way is not fast. Think about what you are doing, do you really want to rush it?

Galaxy S wont boot

Hi guys,
i just got a Galaxy S (international, germany) and wanted to flash Clockwork Mod so i can flash a custom rom (miui). I got it with version 2.2 so i rooted it with z4root 1.3 and then tried RomManager to get CWM on it. But it did always reboot into Samsung stock recovery mode. So i tried this Odin3 1.7 and flashed a Kernel and got into a bootloop (First this one, then i used the one promoted in this video (YouTube Video, description XDA Thread with promoted Kernel. Phone now stuck at booting (isn`t even bootlooping, just stuck at the GALAXY S GT etc. logo. I still can reach the Download Mode.
Can anyone please help how to get at least the phone working again I`m really desperatly.
Greetings from Germany & Merry Christmas
Alch
Install a new Rom with odin will make your phone boot again.
2.2 is probably too old now.
Upgrade to Gingerbread Stock using Odin. Turn on Repartition and follow the instructions to flash.
Download a Custom Kernel for the Gingerbread firmware that you flashed. Every Kernel except the stock comes with CWM Recovery.
Copy the MIUI zip file to sdcard and flash it with recovery. It should boot right up.
If you are still having bootloops, try doing a factory reset and then boot MIUI.
Don't try things that you aren't experienced with.
Anyway, download odin 1.85, flash stock Froyo, launch Kies, update to official Gingerbread, launch Odin, flash Semaphore Kernel and GG.
Merry Christmas!
How can i flash Stock Froyo/Gingerbread trough Odin? Can`t find anything usefull @ google

(Kinda experienced by flashing around with my N1 for around 2 years now, but never heard about this Odin Program)

I am not going to help you with this one. You need to get comfortable with the forum and its contents first. Read all the guides and stickies before proceeding with Firmware flashing. There are many different types of firmwares with Bootloaders which are often dangerous to flash and few without bootloaders. Hence, first go through the guides and go with the flashing only when you are confident that you are doing everything in right order.

Just do what dhiru1602 says. after you flashed it with the latest Gingerbread ,
flash the cf-root kernel with odin . than download the latest galaxian/semaphore kernel, copy it to your internal sd-card and flash it with the app SGS Kernel Flasher . you can find that app on the market. good luck mate !
Thanks guys, u really saved christmas for me Just booted up the latest Miui Rom!
Happy Holidays

Gingerbread kernels

So ive been in the froyo world for a long time and just now switched to gingerbread with the official 2.3.5 update. I managed to root it the other day but now im wondering if there are any kernels out there I can flash that will work well with the stock rom? Im not too familiar with the kernel partition part of things so Id rather ask first rather than messing up my only phone. Thanks for the help.
Here ya go... [KERNEL][KK4][12/10/11] Corn Kernel v6.03 w/ custom CwM5, Ext4, working nandroid
Load the .tar of version 6.03 into the PDA slot of Odin3 v1.83 or similar and connect ur phone to pc in download mode and hit Start.
View attachment 858888 Extract the Odin out of the zip, after u have downloaded it to ur pc, to use.
Thanks for the quick reply. Now is there a way I can make a copy of the stock kernel in case I dont like the Corn Kernel?
EDIT: N/M I found a copy of the stock kernel. Thanks!

[Q] i9000 tried to flash CM9...kinda fsck'ed

[email protected],
after successfully flashing CM9 to my Defy I convinced my friend to go to ICS as well...so far so good/bad!
I followed the guide to install CMW recovery and did a backup of the stock ROM.
After this I copied CM9 nightly and the google apps package to the internal memory...apperantely the zip package of the google apps was bad, so i tried to boot into CM9..it took a damn long time, so I removed the battery (OK, bad move...but so be it don't bit*h about it!)..CM9 booted but said someting about "encryption of the storage failed..please do a factory wipe"......I did so, using CWM recovery...which ended me up in a boot loop without having access to CMW recvry.
So I thought, flashing the zImage again with heimdall will have the bootloader rewritten (maybe the 2nd bad move this day) so I can access recovery again...I imagined zImage was kinda like a BIOS of a PC...apparently it is NOT
After some google-f00 I found out I have to flash an official FW from samsung, with repartitioning, using odin, am I right?
But the probel is, that they tell me to do a *#7465625# to find out details about the stock firmware...but this is not bossible because the phone hangs at the galaxy s boot logo.
So my question is...what can I do to access either recovery or the stock firmware with a phone stuck at boot logo (i can boot into download mode) and having only a nandroid backup of the stock rom?
Can anybody tell me what to do without spending 200 coins to obtain another SGS for my friend (Yeah, I told him that the risk is to brick the SGS, but I have a kind of guilty conscience.
Hope someone can help...
Thanks a lot!
Odin doesnt care about whats currently on your phone . Just go to samfirmware. Com, find a nice stock rom (2.3.3) for i9000, and flash it with odin. If you dont know how to use odin: use the search button in the i9000 section ''how to use odin''. keep us updated / or if you have any other questions

hey
when i screwed my sgs, odin + darky ressurection rom helped
i can't post a link , google "Darkys_v9.2_Resurrection_Edition.zip" ,though i can't remember if i used that version. some got removed, try to look for a sourceforge link. That still works
and see the reply above how to use odin
Hey,
There are also lots of tutorials on youtube, and other sites to show how to flash an original rom. I also screwed up my install of CM9. And then I followed this guide to get the original rom running again.
w w w.theandroidsoul.com/download-install-xxjvs-firmware-update-galaxy-s-i9000-to-android-2-3-5/
After that, use this link for rooting + CWM:

PS: can't link -_- so you have to copy and paste the URL.

hmmm... i read from another site there are some custom rom that requires the phone to be in a rooted stock rom or another custom rom...
example:
to install Galaxy S GT I9000 with Orange Amestris v7.3 ROM Custom Firmware you need to be on stock XWJW1 or XXJVU Firmware since the baseband of "amestris" would be on xwjw1 or xxjvu or custom rom with the same baseband...
what stock rom/firmware the phone was in anyway?im guessing gingerbread stock rom? you still got a chance to update it right since you can access download mode...
from what i can remember, i updated my boyfrnd's s2 from gingerbread to official ics from "sammobile".com (remove quote)
then updated it to a custom rom...
well this might be irrelevant but this is how i updated my galaxy s:
well on my galaxy s i updated it from gingerbread stock rom rooted to gingerbread miui then to ics miui andy's version, since im on ics i have successfully tried different ics custom rom like darknight, slimics, elite etc...
hope this kinda help =]
Thanks a lot...I flashed the original firmware (it didn't start properly, but I don't care) and with this was able to flash the zImage again...then I was able to access bootloader and reinstall CM9
