Anyone else having problems dropping calls while adjusting earpiece volume?
I was on a call today and dropped call, I kept playing with phone till I figured out the cause. It seems to drop when holding the volume down button. It doesn't drop every time that I hold button, but I can make it drop call eventually if I keep playing with it.

Take it to a store and have it checked out, that's obviously not supposed to happen and something is wrong.
Your kidding? I thought that was one of the exclusive new features from Motorola.

Mine has done this. I have been wondering if i press both up and down at the same time. As when you are on a call you are going by feel. Also mine is in a case so it is even harder to feel where they are.

After playing with it more I have found that mine will only do it when the phone is to my ear and or screen blacked out by proximity sensor.
Any one have opinion if it is software or hardware problem?

So earlier today I was trying to make a call to my gf and I didnt think the call was going through. She said she could hear me just fine. So I did a couple baterry pulls and still a no go. I haven't dropped it or gotten any moisture on my bionic or anything like that. I have no idea what's wrong? How can it just break out of nowhere? If I call voicemail it works only on speaker phone.

So update... only the speaker phone works. So I guess the ear piece is done for. Don't know how though. I could try to unroot or do a factory reset but I'm sure that isnt going to fix anything.

They say to steer clear of launch day phones, IMO it's just a matter of luck. Some phones have problems, while others don't...
I've had to exchange one for a buzzing earpiece. The build quality is not as good as the OG Droid as far as the speaker is concerned.
I just got off the phone with motorola and they are processing my 4th replacement device . anybody have a droid 4 over 2 months old that does not have a problem with the ear speaker. i mainly use speakerphone and when i use the ear piece i dont go above level 3. i have been doing alot of reading and many people are having this problem. i tried the suck trick and it worked temporarily but it keeps getting worse everyday. is anyone not having this issue that has had this phone for over 2 months. i am considering another phone but i really dont wanna lose the keyboard. any information would really help.

My wife and I have both had Droid 4s since release day and aren't experiencing the issue.
I have had my droid 4 since the day it was released with no such problems. The only I can think that would cause speaker problems is if:
a) dust and gunk are getting stuck in the speaker
b) the connector for the speakers is becoming loose... do you ever try and clean around the edges of the phone, like in between the bezel and the frame? If so, you might be damaging a connector when you do so...
Other than that, maybe its a factory issue, it is a very thin top piece that holds the speaker and the screen, etc.
Hope this helps...

I started having this problem about 3 weeks ago and I've had my D4 for about 2 months.
Guess I need to call in for a replacement...what a pain. I used my OG Droid for almost 2 years without the need for a replacement. Then I picked up the D3 and went through about 6 phones in 6 months with a move to the D4 hoping things would be better.
What's the suck trick? My wife's is one day old and ear speaker sounds blown

suck trick
The suck trick is, if u suck on the speaker with your mouth it will temporarily fix the speaker.
Same issueI
I bought a Droid 4 two months ago and about within a month it started up with the same thing you are speaking of, a tinny, blown speaker sound coming from the ear piece. I did the whole sucking speaker deal and it would fix it , only to sound like junk again later. I returned it to Verizon, where they said that they had not heard of anyone else having the same problem, so Motorola sent me a "like new" Droid 4. I have had this phone for a month and just this morning it began with the blown speaker garbage again.
I looked more into it and read that it could be the glue which is holding the speaker in heats up and fails, causing the speaker to release from where it is seated and with that rattles, or vibrates, giving the effect of a blown speaker
This would make sense why by sucking into the speaker it stops, because you are basically popping it back into place temporarilly
Either way, I am returning this phone later today and plan on telling Verizon, I want a new one, not some "like new" refurbished piece of junk. I paid for a NEW phone, not one with problems motorola "fixed"
I hope all works out next, cause I really love the keyboard and could've gotten a Rzr for a few bucks more.
try running this app 2x times. once normally with the bol up and another time with the vol up during a call... fixed the sound for me

I believe this app is meant for the speaker on the phone, not the earpiece that people have problems with.

I just got a "like new" replacement phone for having the same problem. I had my phone for about five months before noticing a problem with the speaker. I had the same problem on four different DroidX phones. Verizon acted like it was such a big deal, and they'd never had any problems with the Droid4. The woman at the Verizon store tried to convince me that my Otter Box case was causing the problem. Verizon's customer service department is such a joke sometimes. So far so good with my replacement though.

if you make a call and run it it runs in the earpiece.
to clean it right
1wipe it off
2 clean it with a airduster if you got one
3 with a q tip and a little bit of alcohol
4 dry it than call you house and pick up the phone
5 than run the app incall 3x times
it should be good than
also in /settings/sound/speaker settings set it to custom turn off surround sound and turn the eq to bass punch or lower.
I picked up an HTC one yesterday and just started noticing some irregular call quality issues. Lots of static during phone calls. Sounds about the same with wired headsets, bluetooth and speakers. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this?

I havent experienced this, but as a side question has anyone had the audio completely cut out? Ive had it happen during about 10 of the 15 calls ive made since picking up the one. Sometimes it happens as soon as i answer, sometime later in the call. Sometimes it cuts back in, and sometimes it doesnt. Anyone else?

I believe I've had this happen on one call that lasted 35 minutes. If it is the same problem and not some other issue (such as signal issue or the other phone/phone user) then it occurred about 3 times in close proximity to each other during the phone call. I've only done about 180 minutes of phone calls so far on the device but haven't had it happen any other time.

Yup. Same problem here. I truly hope it's something that an update can cure. I'd really hate to exchange this phone.
Everything about this phone is absolutely awesome! Except the phone call issue (cutting in and out)
Good thing the telephone app is the least used app on my phone. Lol

I got the HTC One black for sprint a few months ago.
(I have had a slim case on it that barely covers the front face, mostly the back. It's a barely there case.)
problem I am having is that everytime I switch the phone to my left ear and hold it with my left hand, the other party says "i sound muffled" -
they cannot hear me.
Then, I immediately switch to my right ear, and they say "oh, now i can hear you fine.."
I have tried this with 3 different people and they all were able to predict exactly when I switched my phone from right to left and vice versa.
So, there seems to be a problem with my phone. anyone else having this issue? My friend has HTC One silver for t-mobile and he doesn't have this problem.
It's under warranty so I'm thinking of getting it replaced. Maybe go with the silver one?

make sure you are not covering up your noisecanaling mic (the hole next tot the camera) if it is being covered it will not work correctly. no need to send in your phone when it is not an issue with the phone.
Happens to me all the time too.
The main microphone at the bottom is on the left side, and when holding it with my left hand my little finger instinctively hold it from below, covering the mic.
Only with my left hand.

I am holding the phone only from the sides when this problem happens.
I am not covering up any part of the mic on top or bottom.
During my tests, I was careful to make the calls while holding the phone with just
3 fingers, making sure I'm only holding phone from the sides.
So, we can definitely rule out me accidentally covering up the mic.
The problem is consistent and happens everyday
Maybe your phone doesn't like left-handed people... Maybe it's got something against the creative gene... Seriously though, I have people tell me I sound muffled occasionally - maybe every tenth phone call. I don't see any consistency though so I can't wait to hear what you find. And I think I always use my right hand because I hear better in my right ear.

It's something to do with the gyro. Someone made a mod to deactivate it during calls to solve this problem. Keep searching. I'll post back if I find it.
Disable noise suppression?

I immediately thought of this as the cause of the problem - the gyro.
The phone is being naturally slightly tilted in " / " direction ( as opposed to " \ " right handed)
I went to the local sprint store. The tech there was puzzled when I explained to him what was happening.
Then, I stepped outside of the store and called him on his landline. 60 seconds into the call, he was not able to hear me when I was
holding phone to my left ear - when I switched to the right ear, he heard me just fine. He was amazed , as he'd never seen anything like this.
I paid the $50 and he ordered me a replacement - which will arrive tomorrow.
Hopefully, I do not have this problem on the new device.
Will update in a few days after testing new phone.
frustrated...
went to the sprint store when they called me, saying my replacement phone was in.
i went there and was totally disappointed. they tried to give me a phone with scratches on the front / back.
I was not having it. I told them no way, i paid for a new phone 2 months ago, and i will not take some scratched up phone as replacement.
they said fine, they will order another one and ship to my house. it will take 5-7 days.
next day, i get an email saying that the htc one is on back order and there is not ETA date. So, im basically stuck with my phone until god knows when...
i called the store back to complain, spoke to manager, and he said there are no other options, i have to wait.
So, im going to try to call another local sprint corporate store to see if they can help, but at this point, pretty pissed off with sprint.
I would get rid of sprint I think that's your problem, not the phone

hello,
I have a weird problem since a couple of days making calls.
The person I call can barely hear me, often not at all no matter how loud I speak.
I thought the mic might be broken but when I do a speach recording it works just fine.
everything else also works.
anyone got an idea about that?
Sounds like a Rom issue, try a clean re-install
nandroid back up first

Common fault. I had mine since launch day then a few weeks ago people couldn't hear me unless i was on Speakerphone or with headset on.
Got sent a brand spanker from HTC because they couldn't fix it, three days later the new phone did the same thing...
