So I've been shopping around for a new ROM and was reverting to Rogers Stock 2.2 using ODIN from Mosaic VII so as to have a clean slate for the next ROM. I noticed, however, that on its first boot, my phone still displayed the I9000 logo despite having been (supposedly) returned to Rogers Stock 2.2
It's not a terribly big deal, but I'm curious to know what the cause of this is and how to fix it.
I9000 bootloaders.
Flash At&t bootloaders.
How exactly does one restore a bootloader to stock without catastrophic phone failure? I know having two bootloaders (initial and secondary) that don't match is basically an instant brick, so any advice would be helpful.

Hello XDA!
I recently bought Samsung Captivate from Rogers with Eclair installed on it. It is my first android. I rooted it. I wanted to install froyo 2.2 on it and used Odin instead of just using the official upgrade with Kies (dumb me). Now I am stuck with AT&T froyo 2.2 which voids my warranty from Rogers. Kies would not recognize my phone. I would rather have Rogers official release of 2.2.
Is it possible to replace AT&T 2.2 with Rogers 2.2 (or at least Rogers 2.1, so I could upgrade through Kies)?
Thank you,
Elena.
Stock rogers 2.1 rom is here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TT4RYLDZ
You need to flash this with odin, and you will be back to stock.
As for the boot screen, there is a thread on here on how to change the image back to the I896 boot screen.
Thank you I will try this
Ok, I did flash it with Odin3 v1.30. I still got the AT&T boot screen for just a second, then the original I896 comes up and then I see rogers logo trying to start up, but nothing happens after. It turns off on its own.
maybe i need a pit file or something?
well if you followed instructions, just restore your original backup..
what? didnt follow instructions... well here you go...
if you are seeing the att boot logo you flashed i897 stock ROM
rogers is i896. the Att boot logo is part of the kernel.
heres what you need.

I had some issues with the phone (i9000t) not wanting to boot without being plugged in. They first appeared on Doc's ROM (just started one day. Had been working fine for weeks) and persisted even after flashing various stock 2.1 and 2.2 roms.
After I flashed the Gingerbread Beta(samfirmware), the problem went away. After that, I decided to try and flash a 2.2 rom again to see if it would work; it didn't. I'm not too thrilled about the amount of RAM that Gingerbread is using and my battery life is crap, so I'd like to go back to a Froyo rom, but I really don't want to deal with the phone not turning on.
Anyone know if it's possible to flash a Froyo ROM with the Gingerbread bootloader? Even better, anyone know of a fix for this bootloader issue?

I have bootloaders in my stash.
I have flashed them and there was no problem.
Link to my stash in my sig.
Flash a stock rom with Odin, 512 PIT + repartition.
When I have a problem I'm flashing JM9 (2.1 rom) back that way and everything works as intended after that and I can upgrade to any Froyo custom rom error free.
Works great with CM7 too.
Did the 2.2 ROM you flashed over the gingerbread beta have its own bootloader? If not, try flashing a 2.2 ROM that comes with a bootloader. Both XXJPU and ZSJPJ from samfirmware.com come with bootloaders. Try those first.
I flashed the 2.3.3 GB ROM on my captivate, then flashed back to stock 2.1 using odin one click. That includes flashing the bootloaders of course. I recently had the phone-!-computer icon show up but it was the same as it was for the gingerbread bootloader(I think).
Is there any definite way to tell what bootloaders I have, or did they just not flash when I used odin?
Good question

Between Froyo and the leaked GB bootloaders it would be hard to tell cause they both sport the at&t logo but you should be able to know depending on your Android version. I don't think Froyo bootloaders will boot up GB rom's but GB bootloaders are backwards compatible I think. The I9000 GB bootloaders stick out easily cause of the I9000 logo. You screen would indicate to me that it still has the leaked GB bootloaders. I don't think the other screen is present on the older bootloaders.
I also meant to add that I used Kies mini to update to 2.2 Froyo. That's why this confuses me. Is there supposed to be a specific connect to pc icon when softbricked? I don't remember seeing what I saw until after I flashed to the GB rom.
Hello, I am currently on Miui but I want to flash official Rogers 2.3.3 to get Rogers bootloaders, as i hate flashing AT&T stuff when I don't have an AT&T phone. What is the safest way to return to either 2.1 or 2.2? I have tried returning to stock from an i9000 based rom a long time ago, and ended up bricking so I'm very careful and kinda scared to do it again since I haven't flashed in a while lol I do have a jig now in case things get hairy, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I do have Heimdall 1.3.0 and a Rogers 2.2 package with everything included, should i just use that?
Use the Rogers package and flash. You don't really have a choice since to go back from CM7 or MIUI you need to repartition your phone.
use the stock roms in my signature. herehttp://bit.ly/eqg4W2
because your are coming from miui / cm7 it is recomended to flash the att one click first then the rogers stock roms
i was on miui for 3 hours yesterday. i HATED it. buggy and iphone phanboy bs.
but i did a nandroid backup before flashing miui, that i restored after by flashing ATT one click, rogers 2.2, talon kernel, then my nandroid backup.
Last time I tried to get off the i9000 rom's I used the at&t one click, and it bricked my phone, it would show an at&t screen for a few seconds and then it would shut off and keep doing that, but I had no download mode or anything, the Heimdall package has the bootloaders and everything in it, isn't it safe just to use that?

ive never used heimdall never needed to.
if you had no download mode last time then how is it working now?
it works. everyone has done it. i did it twice yesterday.
ATT one click, 2.2 rogers with odin, flash custom kernel with odin, boot into kernels built in CWM, flash new rom. done,.
Well i ended up making my own jig to get it into download mode and then tried to flash to stock, and my phone's screen turned green, and stayed like that for a while, so I unplugged, pulled the battery, tried it again and it was hardbricked, as in the jig didn't work and nothing else did either, so I sent it into rogers for repair. Plus my phone is a 1010 model, which is why it doesn't play well if the AT&T one click. I don't want to use that. Why must i use odin? does Heimdall not do the exact same thing?
Is there a commend to display which bootloaders I'm running? I've seen people say you can tell by which screens appear when booting or which buttons you have to press to get into recovery but I am looking for something more definitive or precise. Thx.
That is the only method, so you're best bet is that way -_-

Which metod? My Captivate does not show the Galaxy X screen when it boots up and to go into recovery mode I have to push both the volume up and volume down buttons and the power buttons. Which bootloader does that mean I'm running?
I897. Now which ROM are you running?

Here's the checklist:
First boot screen:
Black with "Galaxy S I9000" logo = i9000 bootloaders
White AT&T World Phone logo = i897 bootloaders
On a Gingerbread rom? You're using Gingerbread bootloaders
On an ICS rom? You're using Gingerbread bootloaders
On a Froyo rom? You could be on GB or Froyo/Eclair bootloaders. You'll have to remember whether you've ever flashed the GB bootloaders.
Or, you can just flash the GB bootloaders (i9000 or i897) and know for sure.
So, according to both of you my bootloaders are I897 (I didn't know I897 had anything to do with bootloaders!). I am running Doc's Master ICS V5 Final. I realize that theoretically you have to be using GB bootloaders to run ICS but I thought you could use the wrong bootloaders and just have a buggy phone. My broadband version starts with I9000 though. Is that unrelated to my "I897" bootloaders? Thanks for helping me learn!
The i9000 part you see is your modem which is required when using AOSP ROM (CM7, CM9, MIUI) Unless you want to use Nexus S modems. So yes you have I897 bootloaders. What ROM were you on before you flashed any ICS ROM?
@jmtheiss you don't have to have GB bootloaders to run ICS... Many people are too scared to flash them and don't want to.
Good to know. I thought that there might be a chance it was similar to the cm7 requirements.
I never knew CM7 required GB BL's....
lol scared to flash bootloaders... i flashed bootloaders 3 times on my two cappies the other day without palm sweat like i used to back in the day... lol running i9000 bootloaders with custom boot image now on both cappies. no more sleep death with Deep idle and liveOC!!
oh hey if going to ICS (which you will now or later) probably best to flash i9000 GB bootloaders. custom boot image link in my sig.
If I recall, from 2.2 I ran gb cyanogen rom for a few minutes then upgraded to ics and never looked back.

i have read that flashing bootloaders is risky and can hard brick your phone? is this a common myth that people are scared of or is the process reversible? i am having a lot of random shut offs especially with wifi on. i clean and wiped everything and using GB bootloaders but it seems the issue persists. i am desperately trying to find a fix, i am running doc masters v6 rom. do you have any advice and if the i9000 bootloaders may fix my issue?
Its no myth. only way to hard brick is if the bootloaders are missing or corrupted.
he was just saying that people stress it too much. I too have flashed boots plenty of times with no issues at all. hell, we all used to use Odin one click, some even recommended it between every ROM flash (way back in the day), which contains boots.
My captivate is 17 months old and going strong, just make sure you've got a good connection by flashing a nobootloader package a couple times, then if that goes good, flash the bootloaders and you should be fine.
I felt same way about doing my first flashing. Now it is a walk in park!! I load a different ROM about every other day. Do your backups!!!

You're using the normal gingerbread bootloaders for captivate, please correct me if I am wrong here.
