A way to get more developers. Please vote! - Motorola Droid 3

Droid life is conducting a poll that many developers seem to be following. Please vote for the Droid 3! The more people who vote, the greater the chance that we have more developers. We were the ones that got the over rated bionic rooted (really DJ but you know we helped him help us). We were the ones that got bootstrap first. I am pretty sure that there are more droid 3 users than the bionic because of the stupid 4g contract.
So vote. No sign up needed. No real effort either. Do it from your droid if you have to, I did. If you have any other legitimate sites hosting a poll, let me know! I will add it to the OP.
thanks!

Incorrect. Whoever you spoke to does not know what they are talking about. There is no 4G or 3G data plan with Verizon. It's just a "data plan". If you have the Smartphone data plan, it doesn't matter if you have a 3G or 4G phone or bounce between the two, it's the same plan. If you were grandfathered in at $29.99 for unlimited....you have that regardless of 3G or 4G or switching to the other.
Same plan, Same price.
The only plan that is different is the "feature phone" plan. They had an unlimited plan at $29.99 that does not carry over to a Smart Phone (Android, Blackberry, WP7, iPhone) and moves you to a tiered plan if upgrading.
3G or 4G, same plan, same price.......unlimited grandfathered plan holders keep it at $29.99

How to get Unlimited Data on AT&T

I'm just transferring this thread from the Atrix forum for those that would be interested in getting onto (or back onto) AT&T's unlimited data plan rather than the tiered plans they offer.
It requires an IPhone 2G in order to do it and a sim card that has not been previously registered on an IPhone.
It does work, I did it on my own lines with ease.

I have no idea but are you still tethering? Like as in are you still tethering hours later? If so, you might want to watch how much you're tethering. If you push it too far, AT&T can find out and put you on a tethering plan.
Right now I'm on Sprint and would like to move over to AT&T but like most of you want unlimited data. If I switch I will get 3 lines (family plan) 2 iphone 4s's for my two sisters and 1 Samsung Skyrocket for me. Anyone know if its possible for us to get unlimited data?

Verizon brought back unlimited data?(guess not, was misinformed)

Not sure if it's been gone over already, but I just called VZW and asked if any promos where going on, which there aren't, but I was told they brought back unlimited data plans again 3 weeks ago, for the same $29.99.
Really? The vzw rep said that? If so that's awesome!

Not available on their website. Maybe like everything else, reps don't know what they're talking about.
If this were true we would've heard some report of this from other sources. Odds are the rep had no clue what was going on.
I'm calling them back to verify. Maybe someone else wants to call and see what's up.

There was a loophole but it's closed now. For some time you could get unlimited data by adding the 4G only, $30 unlimited hotspot feature. By default it changes your data plan to the $29.99 unlimited.
It is only intended for customers with unlimited data already, but for awhile they were doing it for all 4G phones.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I got unlimited data last week.
I was on the 2 GB plan... never used that much since data doesn't work worth a crap. My company IT department finally appoved me to get me email on my phone using the "Good" app. As soon as I activated it, the Good servers sent me an email stating that I did not have a feature on my account and I needed to contact Verizon. So I did. I was told that I had to go to an enterprise plan to get my mail through the app. It would be $44.99 a month but it also included unlimited data. With my company's 22% discount, that brought it to $35.09. I pay $5.09 more for unlimited data over the 2 GB regular plan.
I've been on the phone with Verizon this morning and getting nowhere with this. I just moved from AT&T and definitely miss my unlimited data. I was told they know nothing about the unlimited data coming back for any period of time.
To anyone that gets it, congrats and enjoy!
ive been a vzw rep for a few years now and this is nothing that ive heard. tiered data was all part of a bigger plan that hasnt come into place yet. what i do know though is that service is able to put customers back onto unl data if they lose it due to a system error or weird change in their acct that doesnt involve a phone.

"4G LTE Smartphone customers who make a price plan change or an ESN change during the promotional period will be asked to select one of the promotional options."
The way I'm reading that is, If you upgrade to any 4G phone during the promotion period you will be asked to choose one of these tired plans and lose unlimited data.
This wouldn't be the first time Verizon has done something like this. I wouldn't be surprised if they say that the RAZR, Nexus, and Rezound are not compatible with the unlimited data package.
I've never been on the "personal email" option -- always had work paying for it and had the corp email and hotspot. Can someone with a regular data account (i.e., personal email, not corporate) tell me whether there is any restriction on data activities with one of these "regular" plans? Other than tethering, I mean. Like, can I still use the regular email app and all my other good stuff?
Thanks, and sorry for the noob question. On ATT, I never worried about this stuff. (Turns out that was the only plus about ATT, but I digress.)

Actually I think this is Verizon testing the waters and trying to find middle ground between unlimited and their current offers. Everyone and their mothers are flocking to Sprint because of their unlimited data, albeit they have issues of their own. If this experiment goes well this may end up being their new tiered plans or they may extend the promotional period. Verizon is not looking to stick their unlimited users, they've moved on. It's all about the next dollar. Now that at&t is deploying LTE they need to separate themselves from the pack.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is an MNVO?
I don't know if they would be violating the TOS. I'm pretty sure the contracts that we all signed gave them the right to change any damn thing they want, whenever they want to.
This move has probably been planne for since 4g was a but a twinkle in their eye.
I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait out our "upgraded" contracts until the original end dates. And they're betting that by then, we'll have gotten used to the "upgrades."
I just love that have the nuts to call this an upgrade. Freaking hilarious.

that how i'm reading it too, it doesn't sound like i will be required to change my data plan until i upgrade again.
The way it will likely work is that as 3G unlimited contracts expire, Verizon will push subscribers to upgrade their devices to smartphones on company's 4G LTE network. These customers will then have to sign up for the data share plans.

Probably. But that's the velvet glove. Do we know anything about the iron hand inside? If Verizon's spiel is "Upgrade to 4G LTE" and the customer's response is "No thanks", will Verizon counter with "Upgrade to LTE or else find another provider"?
The mindset I'm sensing behind killing off grandfathered unlimited is that they want all of their customers capped, and if you won't be capped, you won't be their customer. They're playing chicken, and most of their affected customer base will be the first to flinch.

Yeah, looks like they've opened a loophole in their plan. You lose your grandfathered unlimited if you buy a subsidized new phone (i.e., renew contract). So, if you craigslist or ebay a phone, and convince Verizon to activate it, you'll keep the unlimited data. (Or, if you like giving money to Verizon, buy the phone new from them.)
Interesting. I wonder how many upgrading customers who want the new-new shiny and don't pay much attention to contract plan dynamics will miss that distinction and lose their unlimited access without fully realizing it?
Yup im switching to tmobile! This is such bs!! Tmobile will b the only carrier left with "unlimited" data, after verizon pulls this stunt!!! Oh well, tmobile @ least has the one series phones. Suck it verizon!!

Free wifi tethering now free from verizon

sorry im a new user cant post links
Unless I missed something it doesn't necessarily mean that tethering will be free. What the govt. did was slap them on the wrist for blocking tethering apps in the app store, forcing customers to use their paid app. I could be wrong, though. Anyhow I've heard that a number of people were already tethering anyhow. Just don't go overboard on the data usage even if you have an unlimited plan.

this.
It wasn't just for blocking users from using third party programs, it was for charging LTE subscribers to tether, period (especially users on limited tiered pricing). That is why the share everything plans all include free hotspot now.
Now I'm tempted to get a share everything plan. Can anyone recommend any apps to wifi tether on the market?
Foxfi

Would you even need a 3rd party app on a shared plan if hotspot is included? Wouldn't that use the built-in app?
If you are on share everything, then you can just use the built-in hotspot.
Here is an interesting article regarding FCC's ruling:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...eans-to-you-faq/?part=rss&subj=news&tag=title
People definitely need to read that CNET article. Anyone on an older unlimited plan still has to pay to tether. It's only existing customers with a fixed amount of data per month who can tether for free.
This ruling makes no sense at all. Why would it allow wifi tether on tiered plans but not unlimited?

How did you get a bionic early? They didn't release it until after they stopped offering the unlimited plan. I signed up the last weekend unlimited was available and the only 4g phones that were out were the Tbolt, Revolution, and Charge.

I got my bionic in December, then called in February and got switched to unlimited data. They had a loophole for a while where unlimited hotspot was listed in the features section of the website, but it failed if you tried to add it to your plan. You just had to call and many reps would tell you you needed to be on unlimited data to get that, so you just asked then to switch you to unlimited data. The unlimited data was even 29.99 instead of 30 for 2 or 4GB. Plus, if you had any kind of group service discount it applied to the unlimited data but not the tiered plan.

This ruling makes no sense at all. Why would it allow wifi tether on tiered plans but not unlimited?

It actually makes COMPLETE sense (for Verizon's sake) - since you will run through your allotted 2GB or whatever plan you have. If you have unlimited, then you can just power your home WiFi or whatever you want, which is not what you're paying for when you have unlimited data for your cell phone.
Anyway, this is XDA, so this shouldn't really matter to anyone here...turn that 1 to a 0 with an SQL editor and enjoy your free tethering.
I have a stock charge and am using foxfi free tethering on unlimited plan. I will have a bionic in 3 days

Seconded. I bought mine release day with an upgrade and the only question I asked the sales rep was that I make sure I stay on unlimited data, which I have. In theory, the ruling should support free tethering on all 4G service, including unlimited.
