Hi xda,
I have a 16GB class 4 sd card and im not sure how much space i should give for parition.current paritions
Partition 1:FAT32 1GB
Partition 2:FAT32 rest of it 14gb+
I just want to install games and apps but im worried about the space issue as some of them said once ur link2sd parition is used up,the phone will go into bootloop
Thanks in advance.

I have 16 GB class 2.
My class 2 sdcard is fast enough, I got 14.57GB FAT32 and 256MB EXT4.
I have 56 games and apps including big-sized games and HD games.
Stable FroyoBread / GingerDX ROMs.
I always full load my ext part. (max apps installed) and since I bought my device I haven't experience such bootloops. Ever.
you can stop worrying.
EDIT: Why are you having 2 FAT32 partition?
Tried ext2,3 and 4 but link2sd didnt work, the anroid forum (not sure of the name) said that just use 2 FAT32 since it support all devices
Edit: can i try increase the space of the 1st partition? Seems like 1GB isnt going to be enough to store music, pictures and also videos.lets say:1st partition 5GB,2nd partition the rest of it.

Oh im sorry I see that you are using Eclair.
Have you done this? I was using Eclair before.
App2sd MOD
Why don't you use Custom 2.2.1 Roms? App2sd is native there, you don't have to make some mods..
There is another version of app2sd easy way just flash using xrecover right?dont know it works with stock eclair.
Uhm yeah, ive been using custom rom for the pass 1 year after getting the x8,been fun, although there is alot of problems here and there especially battery draining.
X8,E15I Eclair
Well I recommend not to use the easy way.
All you have to do is to follow the simple instructions
Oh yeah: I recommend GDX. It won't drain your battery.
Uhm okay nevermind,im staying with link2sd..
Eh yeah ive use froyobread till v0.20,then moved on minicm6 or something forgot the name..then gingercruzt, kuyadroid, srom 2.2.1,srom 2.3.4 then finally landed on gingerdx v005 till v14,most of them had random reboot issue and battery drain (charged from 100%,5mins later 93%) i didnt even use it...
X8,E15I Eclair
Currently I am using GDX, My phone lasts for 2 days, sometimes 3 or so. I usually play games, calls, txt msging, browsing the net and listening to music.
Have you followed the instructions regarding the proper installation of GDX?
Used GingerDx (based on observation) didnt report to the thread, dont want to trouble the dev because of a small issue and dont wanna "flood" the thread with alot of "stupid" questions
V005 - 008 Not much of a problem,battery issue still there,not much app installed
V009 - 012 still the same no problem, random reboot 4-5 times per hour.battery drain issue still there.
V013 - 014 idk what to say, sometimes it reboots not as worse, battery drain still there.
V001 stock GingerDx no battery drain issue could last 1 - 2 days
X8,E15I Eclair
One more question the dual touch module didnt work for the stock eclair.tried it on google maps, gallery 3d and browser.im currently using cypress digitalizer and module ax8mt v005

I started off with cyanogen 4.0.4, I like it, but it seems to lag a lot when I open/close the screen, when the screen view changes from side to side to up and down. I have a 4gb (I think its class 4) card, and I formated it with like 3.xxgb fat32, then 512mb ext3.
So I decided to format the card and try hero (latest non-experimental version).
I like it better, but everytime I touch something it gives me a TouchFlo force close error. I tried reformatting the card and re wiping/flashing the update, no go. For hero I had 3.xx fat32, 512 ext3, and 32 swap.
For both builds I had cyanogens latest recovery, the latest radio, and the latest spl (hykaro, I think I spelled that wrong lol)
So, am I doing something wrong? My friends g1 has the cyan 4.0.4 build on a 2gb card I believe, and his is smokin fast compared to mine.
Someone help me out, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
At this point I think I wanna keep the hero build, but I need to solve the touchflo issue. If not, ill be fine with cyanogen's, but ill just run the hero theme on it.
Also, if I go with cyanogen, should I run a swap partition or no?
The swap partition really increases the speed of the Rom, Are you running apps2sd?
my suggestion is make a swap partition and set up usernint.sh so you can use both compcache and swap on Cyanogen 4.04. It should speed it up a lot. Link in my signature.

with hero i was, as i understood, it does apps2sd automatically?
with cyanogen 4.0.4, im not sure if i was, if it had to be set up, i may not have been and that might be part of the reason. how do u ensure that im running apps2sd?

ill try that now. should i stick with 4.0.4, or the experimental (which i heard is pretty stable, or am i wrong?)
also, i think i may order an 8gb class 6 like you have linked in your sig, hell for 17 bux, might as well.
and in your sig, what is that "xROM" you have listed after cyanogen? do i need that as well?

To check A2SD is running, check how much free space you have on your ext (Settinds > SD card > Secondary) install a couple of big apps - "Bonsai Blast" is 6MB - and check to see if free space has gone down. It A2SD is working it should have done.
4.04 or 4.1.11.1 doesn't really matter. I had a few acore FC's on 4.11.1.1 so 4.04 is your best bet. Could be my fault for not wiping though.
xROM is just...a ROM basically I believe it's based on CM 4.04 but it's themed up and looks awesome
so is the xROM different than 4.0.4? or am i confused.....lol
anyone have any idea on the issue im having with loading Hero? i just wiped and reloaded, and im still getting TouchFlo force close constantly.
anyone else having this issue?
Wipe your ext partition before wiping and flashing:
Go to Terminal:
Rm -rf /system/sd/*
Reboot recovery
Wipe
Reflash
oh, so when im in recovery, and i do alt+w, that wipes what? i thought it wiped everything? that might be the reason, ill try what you said.
although i even reformatted the card completely, then put hero on it and it still is doing it (randomly)
i had it working just now for bout 5-10 minutes then it started again.
also, when i went to wifi tethering, it says my kernel doesnt support it or something (didnt catch the whole error, ill try to copy it down if i see it again after wiping/reinstalling)
is there any reason to run hero over say....cyanogen 4.0.4 with a hero THEME? what are the advantages to running the actual Hero rom?

Yeah try wiping the whole sd card, not just the fat32 partition. Maybe your sd card is going bad? see if you can borrow another and give it another shot.
If he formats through the terminal app does he have to issue su before the other commands? Its been a while since I did mine sry.
I got Cm 4.04 and it works pretty fast on my 8gb class 4 card. I had some lag issues once I installed a few apps. I guess they didn't agree with the either the rom or the hero theme I have lol. Got rid of them and its back to normal. was the SayMyName and TTS Library....in my case tho. It might just be my phone running out of ram, not to sure tho.
And If Im not mistaken, Apps2sd is automatic on the rom.
i got that command to work, i forgot to SU.
i have an extra 1gb laying here, ill try that to see if it does anything different.
i just ordered an 8gb class 6 so that should be here soon anyways.
whats the difference in running hero, vs cyanogen 4.0.4 with a hero theme?
I'm not sure what the difference is but just to clarify my lag issue..
I have around 20ish apps installed. Everything still works pretty good. I just happen to install an app that must have intergrated itself in the system files or something and slowed and almost locked my phone up. Maybe it was the app maybe it wasnt. After I un installed it, things were back to normal.
From what I've been reading Hero is alower then the normal normal G1 builds. I'll have to try a hero build soon. Goodluck.
yea ive tried 2 different hero builds, i overall think cyanogen's 4.0.4 is what i like best, and ill just run the hero theme, i like the theme alot.
the only thing on that as far as lagging goes, is when i open the screen, it switches to landscape view fine most of the time, but when i close it, probably 7 times out of 10, it will lag when switching back to portrait view. the screen goes blurry when its switching (like when you go to power down the phone), for sometimes 2-3 seconds until it switches. i dont remember this happening when i had the stock software on the phone.
any ideas? im going to try the other SD card in a few minutes here just to test it.
ok so upon further review, it seems to only lag when the screen switches from landscape to portrait when the screen is closed. when you physically change the position of the phone, it takes 2, sometimes 3 seconds to switch the screen view. when opening/closing the screen, it switches very fast, as it did with the stock FW.
is this normal?
is there a way to disable that? i really only like it switching screen view based on if the screen is open, or closed.
if its normal, ill have to live with it
I think this is normal. On the normal stock/1.5 builds, the screen will not switch to landscape while the screen is closed on the home screen. It will only change to landscape when you slide out the screen. Is this the transition your talking about? I think its part of the build or theme, the os has to load up additional settings to force it to go to landscape while the screen is closed. For the most part it seems like the os is trying to figure out what position the gsensor/motion sensor thing is in, before it adjusts itself accordingly. I get the same thing on cm 4.04 and on the on the 4.1 I tried once...
soon I will be trying another 4.1 build, I'll let you know the results. nandroid backup is awsome lol
yea thats what im talkin about. i wish i could have it not switch views when the screen it closed, but oh well
im still stuck between hero and cyanogen. i tried xROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543621) didnt like the layout of that theme.

Note: if you want hero, you MUST have a swap partition. the g1 doesnt have enough ram for hero. you may get forceclosures because the g1 is running out of ram without anything even running. you need a swap of atleast 32mb. jac recommends 64mb and i along with a majority use 96mb swap
you know what, that might be it. i did have a swap partition, but there is a command or something you have to do to make the phone USE the swap parition right? if thats the case, that might very well be why it keeps FC'ing.
i ordered an 8gb class 6 sd card, should i do more than a 96mb swap? or is 96mb plenty?
Ok guys I have been trying to set up this phone for a while now and always a week later the phone begins to start to mess up. When I say mess up, the phone crashes my apps disappear and the most annoying my SD card always gets a invalid file structure. I am using Super D Rom because I was using the cyanogen froyo and it was slow as hell. The SD card that I'm using is a WINTEC class 10 16GB, I tried formatting part of the sd card to linux swap file with no success. I would like a guide on setting up the phone from start to finish. So if anyone could help that would be great. Any recommendations are welcome
Do you install your apps on external SD?
Does your computer say the SD has got an invalid File-Structure?
Maybe you should try the Ezterry/Firerat Rom or if you like cm-features take the Ez FrankenCyan ROM. All of these ROMs seem to be very snappy and daily usable.
I'am currently using Ez FrankenCyan with Custom Boot Animation (so it doesn't say CyanogenMod at the start) with Zeam-Launcher and 2d Gallery, which works just fine!
If you don't want to mess around with Kernel-Installer, Radio and CustomMTD take Ezterrys Rom!

OK, I am using super e and my phone is very slow. At the first it was fast now just slow. I just want a Rom that has the google navigation, and maps, you know the essential stuff, I don't need Gingerbread or froyo. I think. Also on forums I have read that FROYO and GINGERBREAD are way to much for the G1 to handle.

Also i'm using the fast boot with the 3 Androids on skate boards. I just want to find a ROM that will let me use my memory card and all my apps work fine. I'm using super E rom and it's not working properly. Apps are crashing and the phone is super slow. If anyone reads this that have pointers or suggestions about good ROMS and how to properly set them up, please post! I'm looking for a ROM that is FAST, and has all the google apps like Navigation, maps, etc. Please help. I'm not looking for fancy graphics and games, just a FAST rom that doesn't hang and also that I can install apps to my sd card. My SD card is a class 10 16gb card. Thanks guys.
Check out the yoshi gingerbread version its amazing sleek and fast. just upgraded from cm 6.1 to this and it's hella faster, make sure your EXT3/4 parition is under 1gb, perfferably like 512mb, the higher it is the more problems it has.

Does anyone know how to test if a bootable sdcard with nookie honeycomb actually works before you test it out on the nook color? thnx
btw i used the process that was on this site http://theunlockr.com/2011/02/07/how-to-load-honeycomb-android-3-0-on-the-nook-color-usd-method/
Not sure why you need to test it before putting it in the nook. If you're worried about doing any harm to the nook it's really not possible. Just put the card in and try to boot. If it doesn't boot take the card out and boot up normally, no harm no foul.

I second this. By default, all the Main Roms for Nookie Froyo and Nookie Honeycomb have no features enabled that will touch your Nook Color. The only thing it touches on the NC is the Cache Partition in order to prevent too many writes to the SD and to also speed things up. Anything done there won't screw up your NC in a Million years and Switching back to Stock and doing a few things will wipe any evidence. Or if really paranoid you can Flash back to Factory to ensure all is wiped.

thnx u guys, But i have another problem. i succesfully installed the honeycomb and got it to work on the nook color. But when I go to my computer with the sd card plugged in, it says that i only have 115 mb of data on the card. I have an 8 gb card. It's not left on the card, it says 115 mb out of 115 mb of data, even after i deleted everything. Anybody know how to restore it back to the 8 gb data amount thnxx
NookColor Format and partition your SD card back to a usable state
Opinion
Since the OP seems to have been answered, I'd like to piggy back a bit
Been doing some reading on the forums and I have started to vision myself getting in to the nook color honeycomb idea.
But a few questions first...
How well has it worked for anyone who has tried, is it a daily driver yet or too many issues? I have a SGS captivate so I am not too worried about having to mess with it before it works and I can use my phone to access email and all that.
But is it quick and snappy or will I feel like i'm using an underpowered device after using my phone.
And battery life, is it good, acceptable, or what?
Sorry if these have been answered somewhere else i tried to find the answers, but it's getting late and I have work yet to do tonight.
I installed it to emmc..over clocked it's still sluggish. Kinda cool but not a keeper to me.my droid x blows it away on performance. I will be back on phiremod beta 2 soon. Honeycomb is fun to tinker but not primetime. Remember it is not from aosp..missing features. It is amazing how good it isconsidering.
Well...its very promising for being in the early stages of development

i use honeycomb as a daily driver and if you install V2 on the emmc from samuallhaff(not 100% sure of his username off the top of my head) it runs smooth and it is really clean
i get the stock all day battery life(mainly it just sits in my bag when im in class but i have wifi always on so i dont disconnect from my schools wifi) and web browsing is amazing(it doesnt have flash though not a deal breaker though imo)
just dont use live wall papers and set CPU because they drain battery life faster and they diminish performance big time

I just realized that you are running HC from your SD card.
No, if you format that SD card, you lose HC. It actually mentions that in the procedure you linked in your original post.
The reason you only see 115MB on the card when you mount it on your Windows computer is because Windows can only see the first partition, the boot partition, that was written to that SD card as part of the procedure you followed. The rest of the space is taken up by partitions Windows can't see without help.
So if you want to continue to run HC off the SD card you have to dedicate that SD card just for running HC.
SD Card Partitions
while installing the image 3 patitions will be written on your sd-card.
1) root partition
2) honeycomb
3) fat32-partition
to use the full size of the sd-card use a partition manager to extend the fat32-partition.
installed apps can than transferred to the fat32-partition

And i was using HC on a level 4 sd card and it said that u need a level 6. But i was still able to get it to run. The honeycomb on the sd card level 4 was pretty slow. i was wondering if i got it on my NC, would it be faster. If it would, can someone show me how?

Nope lots of lag still. Its ok not complaining. Lots of fc in dolphin too. Back to phiremod 2.2 for awhile.
You have to remember that the Honeycomb that was Ported is the Preview Release, think Demo version. It wasn't ported from (pretty much)scratch like Froyo was. It is more of a Rom hack. For a better performing version we have to wait for Honeycomb's Official Full release. In perspective, it's amazing how much deeper-blue got done with just the Preview image.

Not picking on you but it's actually 4 partitions.
1=Boot (Basically redirects to the Android on the SD)
2=System (Holds the main OS files of Honeycomb)
3=Data (Where all you're settings and other data are)
4=SDcard (This partition is used as a stand in for a Physical External SDcard)
Also the easiest/simplest way to access the 2, 3, and 4 partitions is to use linux. Burn a LiveCD if you don't want to Install, although Ubuntu can be Installed without Partitioning or other such normal 2nd OS needs. Just get the Windows installer from http://ubuntu.com

SD Card and Honeycomb 3.0 v4 image
I've been looking for an answer throughout the forums on this question but can't seem to find anything. The problem: I used the Honeycomb v4 image with WinImage. The SD card was originally 8 GB. The image file is 4 GB with approximately 600 MB or so of free space. Missing: 4 GB that was on the card.
1. Can I use a utility under Windows to get the free space allocated on the SD card that remains? If so, how?
2. Is there an option with WinImage to allocate the additional space on the SD card as free space and include it as part of the image that is being written to the SD card?
3. If I need to restore my SD card back to 8 GB, can that be done in Windows Explorer (not sure that Windows will pick up the full 8 GB as I haven't tried that yet).
Thanks.
Ohh, you have that problem. Don't know where you've been looking but that has been asked and answered many times. The problem is that when you install Froyo or Honey to the SD it makes 4 partitions like I listed above, but Windows can only see the First Partition and only Formats the First partition. The easiest way to fix is to put it in UnRooted Stock and Format it from Settings. If you don't have that you can Burn a Linux or GParted Live CD and Format it from their.

hi,
i am running CM 7.2.0 RC5.1 KANG on my galaxy mini.
after fighting myself through endless threads i still cannot find the answer to my question. or maybe i have missed something or it was too complicated for me to understand.
many of those memory increasing posts are only for stock roms.
and i want to increase it with cm7 on the phone. is that possible?
i intend to update to the latest official CM in the near future. would it be easier with a clean install?
please share some information ... i have only 20 MB left
Use any app2sd program you prefer.
Most famous and used are s2e, link2sd, etc
As i was on galaxy mini, i used mebiteks rc0 v0.7 cyanogenmod in combination with link2sd and a 512 mb extended partition. It worked flawless.
Just pic your choice and try.
TIP: Make a backup of your current rom. In case something goes wrong you can go back to last state.
Good luck.
thanks for the quick reply.
i am still a bit confused.
in some threads they write: don't use program X, others say never use program Y and some even say never ever use progam Z.
some members report bootloops, some get instant cancer or die right away.
any clues what works "best" with my rom or do i have to go via K.O. System?
What program works best depends on the rom you use.
I believe S2E works fine on that rom.
sorry, perhaps i didn't make myself clear enough.
i have only 5 apps installed (additionally to the cm7 apks)
the other 60+ programs are installed on the sd card.
my question was: how can i INCREASE the 178 mb ram on the galaxy mini.
let's say ... 1 GB ... that would be fine.
as i have mentioned before, those scripts or progs are available for stock rom only.

i have only 5 apps installed (additionally to the cm7 apks)
the other 60+ programs are installed on the sd card.
my question was: how can i INCREASE the 178 mb ram on the galaxy mini.
let's say ... 1 GB ... that would be fine.
as i have mentioned before, those scripts or progs are available for stock rom only.

Practically speaking, you cannot increase the 178mb internal memory.. that is a hardware limitation.. what we can do instead is alter how android utilize the internal memory. If you want to see 1GB as your internal memory, amarullz and ungaze scripts can do that. You must have a 1GB sd-ext partition on your sdcard for you to use this scripts. Recommend amarullz though coz ungaze makes things laggy.. to know more and how to use these scripts, do a search in the dev section..

By the way, I guess the one that you are referring to as memory hack that are for stock is the work of DOC.cheilvenerd.org..

you go to samsung centre and blame it there...
First take a backup of ur sd card content .. As it will wipe of ur sd card !
Go into cwm - select sd card partition - select how much u want to increase ur internal memory-select swap value 64 mb -and then reboot
This is the easiest way to increase internal memory

Hello there, I had a problem about my G1, I rooted it just last few weeks, after that I flashed a CM 6.1.0 but after I install some apps using Link2SD the phone is getting slow even after reboot. By rooting my G1 I really achieve what I want it is saving more internal storage by using Link2SD but another problem came, it is very slow that it is not usable, please help what should I do?. Or is there any other rom that is more stable and faster than CM 6.1.0?
From what I have heard, cm6 runs slow no matter what on the g1, from the fact that the g1 has a very modest chipset. i have been running cm4 on my g1 for some time, and have encountered almost no problems woth any slowdown.
I started using cm5, it is very slick, many times even faster than rc29! There is a detailed discussion that me and demkantor had that you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435085 that contains instructions on how to flash it. Hope this helps!
Yeah, Same here. I would definitely advise the CM5 for the Dream. I'm running the latest CM5.0.8 as of yesterday on my old Dream and it's just beautiful. Way faster than the Cupcake and Donut Roms. The apps2ext on it works beautifully and saves a lot of stress over the space for apps. The great thing is on the CM5 ROM you don't need any application to facilitate the saving of apps to the SD. It's inside the Rom already and works just perfectly. Just don't forget to partition the SD card first and best is to use ext4 partition, instead ext2. I've been talking to Demkantor as well and followed many advice from the same thread the Dreamwave here suggested. Mostly everything you'll need is there and if anything's unclear, feel free to write any of us.
Something that I personally found is that apps2ext doesn't always work out-of-the-box, what I did to counter that, and what I found works even better, is using something like link2sd, which allows someone to dynamically move their apps, so that launchers and other sensitive apps don't force close on boot because you accidentally removed the sd card/ sd card isn't reading properly.
