Using Root Explorer go to your /system/app folder and see if you have the files:
Setup.apk
Setup.odex
or
SetupSettings.apk
SetupSettings.odex

Yes I have then won't install

Question about root files

Hyperthetically if someone (not me) deleted all the root files using root explorer, would they all be replaced after a stock rom was installed using odin or is the only way to get root files like efs back a nand backup?

I am not at all sure, but from what I can see online it seems that the /efs folder (and thus the holy IMEI number) are NOT restored by flashing roms or reloading general backups. That is likely the reason why it is strongly suggested to take a copy of your efs folder and save it somewhere secure before doing ANYTHING copacetic to your phone.
You (oh sorry, I mean your "friend") may be better off flashing to stock and then searching here for ways to change/set your IMEI number. Perhaps that will work.
Good luck.
Ok what I'm trying to ask is if I start playing with mods like root file mods that edit system files like the battery icon mod. Will a flash to stock rom on odin restore it back to normal or will the system files be forever changed? I think that is abit clearer.

Anyone?

I would keep a back of all those files just to be safe

I agree . But I'm more interested in the actual answer. Is the bootloader even stored in the root. And would it even be possible to restore everything just by pasting a backup of those files back?

Pro's?

You can't **** up your bootloader with root explorer. You can destroy your efs though. As long as this is backed up everything else is restorable.
Thanks. So how would one go about backing up their boot loader or is that a mute point since the phone won't boot without one anyway? And if your bootloader did get screwed say from a bad flash and you couldn't get into download mode is that whats considered a hard brick and would a jig allow you to fix this?

[Q] Rooting Question; did I mess it up?

Hey, so I rooted my Bionic yesterday and everything went well. I started deleting the bloatware with Titanium Backup, then I realized I should ahve been just freezing them instead.
Should I unroot it and reset the phone? Will that bring all the bloatware back for me to freeze once I root it again?
Thanks!
You can purchase the TBH app and debloat and rebloat as needed.

Doesn't the TBH app just change your apks to have a bak extension? I don't think it will reinstall them if you deleted them, it will only undo the change. However, flashing the fxz will put them all back if you really need them.

Read the stickies in the dev forum. You will not get your files back without running the FXZ (new SBF) and resetting to factory new. Team Black Hat app will not doing anything to apps you deleted.

Got the apk for Myaccount when I install it says application not installed when I try to install it Any help would be great
I just got done fixing a problem I had with Contacts Storage, a system app. I had a clockworkmod backup, however. If you don't have a clockworkmod backup you may be in greater trouble than I was. My clockworkmod backup was of the BAD setup, so you don't have to have a "working" backup, or you'd just use that, obviously.
I FXZ'd back to stock, re-rooted, re-bootstrapped, then just did an "Advanced" restore and restored ONLY the "Data". Got me back to exactly where I left off.
If you have modified anything else in your System folder, the FXZ will overwrite it.

[Q] How to reinstall Contacts and Phone apks

I replaced my original working Contacts.apk and Phone.apk after being tempted by some claims of GS3 equivalents or orignal.
Now, i cant search contacts and cant dial.
Is there any way I can restore/ reinstall the original apps?
I had installed Rocket Rom V7.
I tried flashing again, didnt work.
Thanks in advance.
You'll need a root explorer. Navigate to system/app and copy and paste these files there (Remove the [1] at the end) and reboot.

I'm pretty sure that its not possible to paste these back in place, the only way to restore working usage is to factory reset.
It depends if you're getting fc when trying to access the contacts and dialler, or if you go through messaging, does it bring up the dialler OK?

Yes you can, you just need root. I did the same thing but luckily I backed up the original APKs.

Need help with cm7 missing file! !!!

Long story short.....Im onCM7 and i deleted the "batt " file from /sys......now I don't have a battery reading, my phone will not work unless is plugged into a charger, it wont boot into my custom recovery, and I can't flash it aagain because when I go into the bootloader, it says the battery is too low to program...my nandroidbackups r not being recognized by titanium backup or rom manager so I can't restore. Without the custom recovery, I can't reflash cm7....anyone have any ideas at all??? And help would be great. Please and thank you
