As a quick FYI, I've returned two rooted Revolutions to Verizon with clockwork and both went through just fine. Anyone been charged for returning a rooted phone?

returned my bricked rooted+rom'd LG ally without a problem.
Does anyone have the bloatware that came with this device? I will be shipping back my revo to Verizon in exchange for another phone, and I'm back on the stock room, but I'm missing bloatware. Also, how can I get the stock boot image back? I think they'll realize I was rooted when they see the Droid boot animation lol .

If you have a back up from when you first rooted it should give you the stock boot.img. Then flash the stock rom found in the dev section. Then using revotoolkit.apk reinstall stock recovery. Then gingerbreak to unroot. Then update to zv6 from the about phone area and you should be good to go.

crap...
I formatted my SD card recently, and kept my latest backup , but not my original
Is there anything I can do in regards to the boot.img?
Could someone be kind of enough to make a CWR zip file for me?
I'll even pay you $5 bucks or whatever sounds good.

My recommendation would be to flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129117
If it gives you the option to update, perhaps you should try that, and it may unroot your phone.
As far as CWM, I doubt the clerks are going to play with recovery... (that's not a guarantee, however).
If you are really desperate and scared, you should use the VZW tool for reflashing the phone, but I AM NOT RECOMMENDING IT. The tool has been known to do bad things to phones that need expert help to undo if not done properly (not only that, it's a pain in the arse).
Can I flash the boot image from that nandroid?
I was going to use the tool to run the downgrade again but I keep getting errors that I was not getting when I first rooted the phone. Mostly .msi installer package errors when selecting the .tot file.
If its in there it should be fine. If not i can make a zip of the stock boot.img when i get home but it will be about 7 central time.

I don't think the boot image was included with the earlier ROMs. I *probably* have a few boot images from when I was working with Cubed on CWR, but I don't know which is which, and some of those actually can cause bricks. Boot image was p8? I don't even remember now.
As far as selecting the .tot file, it requires the support files... They come with the LGNPST Store & Lab... they would look like:
LGNPST_GenericModels_Ver_3_0_17_0.msi
I'm not positive which one is the right one as it's been a long time. Sorry this is vague, but I went through the process once, and then never again.
The person whose phone we recovered through this method had an issue after the flash where everything looked kosher, but the data would no longer work (no 3g, 4g, etc), and required Cubed's intervention to repair. So I haven't touched it since.

I will try to help as much as possible, but that does not allow you to hold me responsible for anything whatsoever.
Step 1. Download this zip file and extract it, putting all the files in a folder.
Step 2. Download the file "One-Click Fastboot Restore.zip" and extract it, putting all the files in the same folder as the one above.
Step 3. Run the .bat file and follow the instructions.
DO NOT FIX PDS PARTITION UNLESS NECESSARY! IT WILL WIPE YOUR MAC ADDRESS FOR WIFI AND BLUETOOTH!

I'm also curious what exactly it does. At 140k it isn't replacing very much. Does it just fix files related to booting?
Didnt run it because I'm on linux and my phone is fine, but looking at the batch file, it automates flashing the stock gingerbread rom and restores PDS via fastboot.
when I run it, it gives me AdbWinApi.dll error. any suggestions?
I ran this for ****s and giggles and it returns everything back to stock AT&T 2.3 while giving you options along the way of what exactly you wanna restore to stock? webtop, system, pds, wipe data etc. works perfectly! makes life easier really! Phone booted right up after running no problems! Thanks!

It restores your phone back to stock AT&T android via fastboot automatically. It also gives you the option to *fix* your pds partition.
It's also an alternative to RSD

It restores it back to stock AT&T. I tried this on an international Atrix.
Pardon my ignorance, i'm trying to restore a bricked Atrix 4G for a friend. It gave error Failed to boot SVF 105:1:2 0x1000 after bad upgrade. Is it possible to use this as a solution? How can i find that out? and in any case, i have downloaded all files, what's the correct procedure to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Well, been trying but haven't been able to do anything with it. I mean I never used it before and seems like it needs to boot into fastboot mode which I haven't been able to do.
Is in any way possible to make the phone boot into that via usb cable with this software? I installed all requiered software including drivers but it never detected the phone in that (bricked) state, not even once. The phone turns a green light when u connect the usb without battery in, thats it.
I haven't found any solution yet, only seen ppl saying to buy a new one. Is this brick really that bad that there's absolutely no solution? And it all seems to be caused by lack of SBK as ive read on the net...
Well if there's any good news I would like to hear them
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
It's a hard brick. I'm sorry, but it cannot be fixed. You can always try a factory cable, but so far, nothing can be done. I feel your pain
I thought I might open this up since I didn't see it anywhere. Anyway, ill start with my side.
I was on revolt 1.5 (big thanks mtm) and had a haphazard way of getting to zv7. Anyway, I restored stock without wiping, both system and boot.img from thecubeds original factory band, started up fine. Then used revotoolkit to restore stock recovery, downloaded the update and updated sucessfully. I then rooted with the esteem method, free and clear, and restored, among other things, my apps with data that I backed up in ti. Everything was generally fine, with minor hiccups from restoring app data so just manually wiped data from problem apps one by one. After that, gingervolt had come out and I figured that if I flash it over my current setup, worse case scenario I go back and wipe data and install from scratch. But, as luck had it, after taking awhile to rebuild the dalvik cache, everything was fine and dandy.
So how did yours go? Any stories or experiences? Thought this would be good for general discussion and as insight for everyone.

yes tell all as I have heard going right from v4 to v7 was a no go.
You beat me to the punch...I was on Revolt 1.5 and loving it but I want GB. So I downgraded to the stock rooted nandroid backup found here. I went to settings> about phone> software update and...nothing. I tried a few times, I waited for awhile and nothing. I then flashed the z4 tot file, nothing, I updated the z6 file and rooted that and nothing (see a pattern?) I am currently running the Z6 rooted file.
Any help would be appriciated. By the way mtmichaelson you are the man.
I think we are all in the same boat Verizon hasn't uploaded the update to the servers we can download from for now I'm staying stock rooted with stock recovery until they push the update to me so that i can install it when it gets here basically the only thing we can do is wait

My impressions
I was patient and stuck with a CWM/rooted stock V4 ROM.
I uses MT's ROM stock and followed instructions and upgraded through OTA to GB without a hitch. I also erased the internal SD to remove any gremlins from past experimentation.
I used his root zip and it when without a hitch except for the CWM recovery not sticking after reboot.
I notice that the audio output is louder, not one single crash or forced close, faster 4G and GPS, and faster charging. I plan to wait to see how the custom ROMs perform before flashing it and hopefully the CWM issue will be resolved soon.
We all need to thank everyone who has made this possible!

As far as secrets, I cant think of many hidden things I did. A little more detailed though, I had revolt 1.5, backed up everything, and didnt wipe any data.
I went to cwr, made a nand backup, and without wiping anything went straight to flash thecubed's root nandroid rip with advanced restore, with the stock system.img and boot.img, and that booted fine.
Then in android, I used revotoolkit to flash the stock recovery, and I think its this step that at least partially 'allows' the update. I guess something where it checks what is installed to check if there's an update.
Then I got the update prompt for zv6, and it updated fine, although it wasnt rooted afterward. Shortly after, I got another update and it updated to zv7 and 2.3.4, still unrooted. Although my apps were still there, some had issues from remnants of data from froyo, like force closes. So I manually, selectively deleted data in 'manage apps' as I found problem apps.
Then I used the esteem root to root it, and after finding the working, updated one it went fine.
After that, gingervolt came out, and although it was warned to wipe data strenuously before switching, I figured that if I at least made a nandroid before flashing anything, then the worst case scenario if flashing gingervolt over stock gb turned out to fail, I could either wipe data anyway and reflash like normal, or by some crazy chance it'd work, and I just got lucky when it worked. It just took a good 5-7 minutes to boot I presume because it has to rebuild the dalvik cache (based on what/how many apps you have?) and here we are. I hope this explains more so others may have success stories.

It may have to do, like I put above, with putting stock recovery + boot + system.img from stock zv4. Try that if you can and report the results if it deems beneficial.

And I completely have to agree haha. After updating and rooting, I got instant gps lock, have yet to have any fc's or reboot besides the usual routines, and I know Ill have to post a ss to prove it but I was able to get consistent 20-30mbps down with a single 42mbps down speedtest on the speedtest.net app, when before even on a great day it would peak at 16mbps. Loving gingerbread, especially since (coming from a droid) its on a phone meant to handle gb. Afaik, gb's mem manager was more built for 512mb+ (correct me if Im wrong), although it manages everything so much better. As good as gb is on my OG droid, there are a good # of screen redraws lol.
I started from Revolt 1.5. I made a NAND banckup, then got rid of CWM with RevoToolKit. Flashed the v6 tot file with LGNPST, updated to GB OTA, then rooted with mt's script. All-in-all it was pretty painless. I didn't do a data/cache wipe until I went to put on Gingervolt.

Does anyone have a backup of 6.893?
Typically I am very diligent, but somehow I forgot to make a backup of stock.
I have not switched to any other update. I have read through everything thoroughly and I apologize for failing to follow instructions. With 5 android devices and multiple flashes I have never missed this before. And I realized it as soon as I flashed TH3ORYS rom
From what I gather the easiest and most effective way to get back on track is to flash a stock 6.893 rom make a backup and move on from there.
I appreciate anyone's help!
I am also open to using this thread or creating one in delopment to post the stock roms of every version.

Not entirely true. His system will be back to 5.5.886, but his kernel/radio will be his previously upgraded 5.6.893. He is off the upgrade path until he gets the matching system file of 5.6.893. Only then can he continue updating. I just went through this exact thing, used the one step recovery, but went back to .886 and had to beg to find someone to send me a CWR back up of their 5.6.893, which got me back on track.
Oh yeah...nevermind. I completely thought you were wanting stock not the ota. That's what I get for speed reading.

Giving someone a backup made on your device or restoring a backup made on someone else's device is an extremely foolhardy proposition. You are cloning the Android_id from one device to the other, which means that apps that use it as an identifier will push and pull data from both devices without any intervention from the unknowingly affected user.

correct me if im wrong but, all we need is the system img right because im stuck with a hybrid

Check your pms and please don't share in case there is some of my data still left in the backup. just download all the files and put them in a folder and put in your clockwork backup folder on your sd/ext, probably the best way is to restore with advanced restore and just restore system only.

I have really been through the ringer today. I started off this morning by noticing that I had no data at all. I was on 6.893 and TH3ORYROM 2.1 and have been for a few days with no trouble until today when I lost data. I tried everything to get it back, but nothing. I called VZW to make sure there wasn't a network problem in my area and they suggested that I try everything that I had already done (bat. pull, sim card re-register, turn off LTE radio, etc). When they couldn't fix anything, they wanted to transfer me to tier 2 tech support, but they apparently need to talk to me on a different phone so they can diagnose this one, but I didn't have access to another phone. So I decided I would try to flash one of the updates hoping it would reflash the radio file and wake it up. When I got home, I used the R3L3AS3DRoot to restore to stock and tried to install 7.893, but the update failed. I searched around and tried every method I could to get any of the updates to install, but nothing worked, still no 3g either. Eventually, in my desperate attempt to fix this myself I decided to wipe everything and start over. I wiped the webtop partition. I think that's what really screwed me up, because nothing else I did was any different that what I've done in the past. After wiping everything, I went back to the R3L3AS3DRoot and tried to run it. No matter which option I selected, it seemed to run fine, but I couldn't boot past the fastboot screen. I tried to fxz using RSD Lite, but every flash I tried failed. Then, in a panic, I came across P3's moto-fastboot method used to "get you back on the update path". I ran that and it freaking worked!! Then I figured I'd try to get up to 7.893, but I've tried absolutely everything I can find mention of and nothing works. Every install fails. I am getting some intermittent 3G now though. And to top it all off, I discovered that none of the nandroid backups I've made will restore and most of them don't even exist. I just discovered that I needed to check "use external storage" for the backups to take. I thought I had been covering my ass by making backups, but they weren't valid. Currently I have stock, rooted phone with an intermittent 3G signal. System Version 5.5.886, baseband CDMA_N_03.1C.57RLTEDC_U_05.15.02, kernel [email protected] #1, and build number 5.5.1_84_DBN-55. As I sit now, my plan is to see how it acts tomorrow and if I still have a lot of trouble with data, I will return it to stock unrooted and take it into a Verizon store and see if they will let me try a new SIM card. I don't really know what else to do at this point.
I was attempting to work through applying the .218 update to my droid 4. It was giving me a system validation error while when it was running in recovery. I found a thread that stated I needed to replace the apks and odex's as well as the build.prop. I didn't read it carefully enough as it said to replace *THE* problem ones. My validation error was on the build.prop file, I think.
In any case, I was using root explorer to copy *ALL* the files from a base zip file's app folder into the /system/app folder. Things were going along fine, until the phone app forced closed, then the phone rebooted.
Now I'm boot looping.
What can I do? I don't have any safe straps.

I don't have safestrap installed on the device, and I've never used it. I don't think that's an option, unless you have something up your sleeve there
As for Stock recovery, I'd love to give it a try, but I don't know how that would work. I can't get to ADB because I can't boot the phone.
I *CAN* get into the bootloader. From there, I can get into recovery, AP Fastboot, BP SBF Flash BP boot... and others.
So, I'm hoping there's some kind of way to push to the device from one of the boot loader options. I've had a Droid 1, and a number of other android devices, but I've never gotten this far into a hole before.
again... thanks for whatever you got
It doesn't look good my friend, not without a SBF to flash. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to try flashing the update again and cross your fingers that you got things in place before the bootloop. However I'm 99.9% sure that won't work. If I find anything else I'll let you now, but at this point you might be a sitting duck.

I have the update on the SD Card, and nope, flashing it results in the same system validation error, and a bootloop.
thanks. Do you think that flashing the RAZR sbf's would get me a booting device? I only got the thing 14 days ago. Maybe I can exchange it

If you're still in the 14 day return window I would try to return it. If it can't get past the bootloader than they won't know you rooted it. Just tell them you tried to do the update and it bootlooped. That's probably you're safest bet.

I'm heading down there in a few minutes. Thanks for the help all ! I think I'm getting the razr maxx. My wife has one and the screen on that thing is incredible. I think it's worth losing the keyboard to get that screen... and the battery life. That part is also incredible.
again.. thanks.
BTW, you guys absolutely rock. You've helped me out of some serious holes with my OG Droid and other devices more often than I can count.

You can use bp tools to push over a clean system. I believe theres a tutorial somewhere that written for bionic. Just replace that with the droid 4 system. I would extract it from one of the stock roms available and push it thru bp tools.

Can you link that tutorial? I'm also trying to figure out how to use adb via stock recovery. Thanks!

It sounds like OP is going to exchange their phone, but could you really just replace the entire /system folder and have it work? (Nothing special with permissions, etc?)
If so, that is definitely something worth knowing...
Yes i believe so.

Hi all, I'm a noob for the most part but managed to get my phone rooted with gingervolt but I am most likely going to be selling this phone on craigslist and don't want to sell it rooted. I can't seem to find out how to go back to 100% stock and I'm not quite sure what to do.
From my understanding I would need to use CWM to re install the stock firmware (which I can't find) and then unroot my phone using one of the many tools online (can't think of the names of them right now). But I tried something like that while a while back, I wish I remembered, but everytime my phone would try to do an Over The Air update it would boot back into CWM and just kill my battery when I would wake up in the morning.
So if ANYONE knows how and would be willing to help me, I will be so thankful.
PLEASE HELP
Thank you,
Jacob
The easiest way to go back to stock would be to use the .tot to v8 then you could even wait for v9 to download from OTA

I believe that all download links are still up for all the stuff you will need. If not ask and some one will either re upload or point you in the right direction on where to find them.

Okay I'm jealous of your signature 2.0 beta. Can't wait until it is available to all. Keep up the work MT all devs and testers.

meabrams, if I do that, won't my phone still be rooted though? I want to completely remove root access and CWM.

You'd be putting the phone completely back to how the zv8 version is. In short terms deleting everything on the phone then putting stock back on.

Use the tot and revert back to v8, update to v9 then, if you want that true out of box look, wipe your memory cards and do a factory reset. The phone will then be liike it just came out of the box.
The tot route is the easiest way to go completely stock and like the other guys said make sure to wipe the internal and the sd card before you sell your phone to wipe all traces of what has been done to the phone.
And don't be jealous of my tag. I just happened to be lucky enough to be on when Mt posted that he needed beta testers.
