Network Issues - Motorola Droid Bionic

Everytime I'm away from WiFi, my phone doesn't seem to want to find or perform activities over the Verizon Network. I'm always in a 3G or LTE area. I am constantly having to turn off WiFi when out of the house. It turns itself back on and searches for WiFi rather than connecting to the Verizon Network. Any suggestions?

There is an issue with the Bionic switching networks... 4g to 3g to WiFi, whatever.... There is supposed to be an update in early November iirc that will hopefully fix this. They (Verizon) has said that the workaround is to turn on and off airplane mode. Or reboot.

Radio switch

Has anyone out thought of a switch for root users on 4g phones to disable 3g so you don't have 2 wireless radios for 3g and 4g running at the same time? If so, can someone name the app, or tell me where I can find the info on it?

I think if you disable the 3g radio you would have no voice or text. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

you're right. 4g is only for data.

I'm not sure this is correct. On the Thunderbolt, you can switch it to LTE only, and it remains able to make calls and send/receive texts. Although perhaps that doesn't disable the 3G radio.

Only reason this even came to my attention is because I had heard rumors about the Sprint users being able to disable their 3g radio and still receive texts and voicemails... So, I figured I would ask about it. I mean with dumbphones that weren't 3g how did those receive those functions without a 3g radio?
voice/text messages are on 1x while internet is on 3g/4g

Issue I see, is sometimes I'll lose 4g around here (GR area too), and if 3g was off, I wouldn't have data at all.

Than why when I'm on 3g, in a non 4g zone, when I go to make a call, the phone disables 3g?
Radio Switch
@sheatyj - I would have use for this though because I travel the country for work... Most places I go are all 4g (or at least Verizon claims them to be) so if I can disable my 3g radio, I can make my phone last a little longer... Also It will help with me having issues with my phone jumping back into 3g when I just had 3 bars of 4g.
heard of a toggle on thunderbolt a widget
How about switch to turn off all but wifi?
A nice feature of my Blackberry was the ability to turn OFF the telephone and leave the WIFI turned ON. This was great for non-coverage areas and when I traveled internationally. Can this be done on the Bionic? tnx

Just enable Airplane Mode. That will turn everything off.
Once everything is off, just re-enable WiFi and/or Bluetooth if you want to use just that.

[Q] Phone won't go back to 4G on ICS after using 4G LTE Toggle

Hey all, I just updated to the official ICS update and found that the LTE would not turn off, so I downloaded LTE On/Off to go to 3G to save battery. I got a spare battery, so I want to use 4G now, but when I try to get back on it (selecting LTE/CDMA/EvDo), I simply lose 3G. Is there any way to fix this up? I assume flashing back to stock would fix that, but I'd rather not do that unless I really needed to. Thanks!
Are you sure you are in a 4g reception area? There isn't anything about toggling between 4g and 3g that would require flashing stock or an fdr, unless you are on a custom rom that has a problem with 4g.

I'm not sure if it's officially on the list, but I used to get 4G when I toggled it on back in gingerbread. Over break I was in Northern Virginia, which definitely has 4G coverage. I guess I can try it again when I'm home, as that has 4G coverage. Plus, wouldn't turning the toggle to LTE/CDMA/EvDo give me 3G if I'm not in 4G territory?

Yes it would give you 3g when your not in the 4g area
Have you tried dialing *#*#4636#*#* and pressing send to get into the service menu. To change the settings.

I've been having the same problem on my Bionic running IcarusHD, which I believe is based off of .247. I haven't had any luck using the Phone Information to toggle to LTE/CDMA/EvDo. It could be that we're not getting 3G on that setting because PRL is not being used. I had this problem back in the day on ICS ROMs before any leaks came out, and the only solution I could find was to do a factory data wipe, OR just reflash the ROM entirely. If you're on stock .246 I guess that would mean an FXZ.
Whatever you do, don't try to FXZ back to 5.9.902!!

[Q] 4g data problems at home

It seems I have very good 4g signal at my work but when I am at home, it gets stuck on either 1x or 3g, according to sprint, there is 4g coverage on my house.Does anyone have problems with 4g not working properly? Its getting me annoyed since I use hotspot at my house. Any suggestions would be helpful.
I've noticed it'll show 3 bars of 4g at home, but if I actually start browsing it drops to 3g. My friend had done nothing but complain about sprints network so I am just assuming it's their problem.

I'm having the same problem! My friends iPhone gets better reception, and we both have Sprint. He gets LTE at my house in my office, but I get 3G or 1X. It's very frustrating. I may return the phone, or leave Sprint altogether, as I didn't have these problems with my Verizon Note 2.

I have used sprint chat with an agent and followed every troubleshooting method and still 3g. I will check the store to see if I can exchange it for another phone or see whqt happens
Could just be a week signal. Note that the signal bars on your phone are NOT for 4G. Check out this helpful write up over at S4GRU could help you determine what is up once you check LTE signal levels.

Signal switches from LTE to HSDPA wtf?

Where I live I have decent LTE signal strength about -85dbm in the house. Currently my phone says LTE, but if I make a phone call the network automatically switches to H, and internet is incredibly slow. When I get off the phone the network will still stay on H but internet browsing speeds will improve.
Restarting the phone does not seem to fix the issue, and it will take hours for it to go back to LTE. The only way I've found I can get it right back to LTE is by calling T-Mobile and having them reset my phone to the cell tower and I will regain full signal.
Can someone explain to me what in gods name is going on. I'm running stock android 5.0.1
Thank you

Nexus 6 does not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) on T-Mobile network or VoLTE is not in your area. That is why its changing to HSPA speeds when you make the phone call.
The connection to HSPA should go back to LTE after your phone call is done though, even though it isn't doing that for you.
Thank you. But is there any reason when switching to the HSDPA network and on call my service is so miserably slow? Its like being in a 14.4k modem. Takes forever to load something.

Have you tried updating your modem/radio? Verified APN settings? New SIM card?
I have T-Mobile and there's no VoLTE where I live but the speeds are still 20mb/s with H+ while I'm on a call. VoLTE would be nice but I don't think its enabled in any network for the Nexus 6 yet.
Hopefully when N6 gets TMo WiFi Calling, VoLTE support gets added. It would be nice
I updated the radio when I flashed the newest 5.0.1 update. I did the update manually so I know I flashed the updated radio... This was one of the issues I had with the original 5.0.0 software that I was hoping the update would fix.

How do I verify the APN and make sure everything is correct with that?

Cellular Networks Random Drop?

I'm on Dual Sim, esim with Sprint and Sim with TMo.
I'll have 3/4 bars on Sprint and someone will call I'll answer and boom drop.
It'll say both of my Sims are Xed out for about 20 seconds. Like a reboot.
It seems to work better since I turned the VoLTE.
I'm on the Dec update but was doing before that.
Does anyone else seem to have the random drop issue?

That's sounds about right! A lot of the time it's running 3g when I know it should be 4g. Update PRL and boom 4g kicks back on. I have to manually update the PRL like three times a day to keep the 4G going.

I'm still having the problems, I go into 3G A LOT and sometimes it loses all mobile data access unless I reboot. Gonna try to get a new sim card (mine is kinda old), or flash a new kernel (why not?) or completely format the phone (don't wanna do that); it's driving me crazy

I have the same issue on Sprint with data going from LTE to 3G, not sure if the issue is with the phone or Sprint. If I toggle airplane mode off then on it connects back to LTE. I find this works quicker than restating the phone.
If I drive past the current cell tower it goes back to 3G frustrating as hell, so I repeat the airplane mode toggle on and off and it connects to LTE untill the next tower.
I'm at my wit's end as I have spoken to Sprint tech support a dozen times and they have no answers. I'm about to cancel Sprint or get rid of the Pixel XL or both. Never had a issue with a note 10 or iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Very frustrating
