I've tried to look everywhere for info on this issue and the closest I got was in the developers thread where someone was going to flash from Fresh 2.4 to CM 6. Apologies if I'm completely dense here.
There seem to be tons of ins-and-outs that I'm not yet hip to like hboot versions and clockwork vs fastboot and etc.
I am running Fresh 2.4 and I'm getting the "Low on space" trouble that others have noted. I downloaded cyanogen 7.0.3 to my SD and installed ROM Manager. I am able to boot to ClockworkMod and can select the zip to install from. After CM installs I reboot and can't get past the boot screen. (As a side note, I notice the videos all have a white background with black HTC while my boot is gray HTC on black background.)
Is there something I'm missing? The only thought I had was to revert back to completely stock ROM and try to start all over again. Thanks!
1. Are you using any other mods/tweaks - Firerat's, Data2ext or such?
2. Did you wipe everything before flashing CM? Or what steps did you take before flashing CM?

1) no other tweaks. Just put Fresh 2.4 on and started using it.
2) In the ROM Manager I backed up after flashing to ClockworkMod. I've used that backup to get my phone working again. I also checked the boxes to wipe everything as I told it to install cyanogen from the SD card. I've also tried booting to recovery manually and scrolling to wipe/restore to factory before trying to install cyanogen from zip.

From manual recovery (power + volume down -> home button) I "wipe data/factory reset" and I "wipe cache partition". I also "wipe dalvik cache" and "wipe battery stats" in the advanced menu.
I still get a persistent gray HTC text on black background boot screen.

Redownload cm7 again. Could be a bad dl. Especially over 3g it could go bad so try wifi. Or try aosp's 2.3.4. Its a very stable rom with less cm bloat but still has it's features.
Also don't flash through the rom manager clockwork app. Doing everything from the recovery works better IMO. My guess is that's why it failed. Because you flashed it through the app and not in recovery. In the recovery it's says install zip from sdcard. Select that and find your cm download and load it there. Then your gapps. Bet it'll work after that.
If it doesn't load or doesn't boot up after that then its your clockwork recovery. In the manual recovery at the top it'll say what version your using. The latest is 2.0.5.7 I think. Personally I use a different recovery but for your use the latest will work just fine.

I've downloaded 7.0.3 twice and also 7.0.0 just for fun. All through my home internet onto a macbook pro and transferred via USB to the SD card.
I'll try again and make sure to only use the manual recovery. Also, thanks for the aosp suggestion!
It's a no-go on everything.
Formatted boot, system, data, and cache. Wiped dalvik cache and battery stats. Tried to install a fresh copy of CM7 and also tried AOSP 2.3.4 with same steps.
The only thing that doesn't stall at the boot screen is my backup.
There must be something about versions that is wrong here. Something isn't playing nice.
Excuse me sir. Don't mean to but in here. But I think you missed the part were matt suggested you reflash your recovery. Its good advice. Whatever your current recovery is try reflashing it, repeat the necessary wipes and flash your rom of choice. You can reflash your recovery threw adb or if your s-off threw an hercimg.zip or if you have a nand you can boot into you can do it threw terminal or rom manger.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Personally I bootload to flash any recovery but also I'm s-off. Its extremely easy and all you have to do is rename the file and move it to the root of the SD card. Using terminal emulator is also very easy if your not s-off. If your still unsure about some of this just keep asking us. More than willing to help. Here ill make it a little easier. Go find the s-off thread and make it happen. Ill throw you my renamed version of green lantern recovery. Trust me it works perfect. Still clockwork. Just different. Then all youll have to do is bootload the recovery then reboot to recovery. And you already know how to do that.
1st go to that s-off link
Dropbox link to greenlantern
http://db.tt/ORAwPdX
The file is named
greenlanternHERCIMG.zip, just delete the greenlatern part and it's good to go.
Heres the s-off thread. All you need is the zip in the bottom of the op. Then flash it through manual recovery as always now
Get the recovery working first then we can help fix the flashing rom if it continues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759955
*I use bootloader just to be a dork really and watch it load for that 2 seconds it takes then reboot, but who's phone doesn't like a reboot .. honestly.

So I've got a Sprint-branded Optimus Black. Rooted the device via SuperOneClick, and installed Clock Work Recovery Mod. Unable to flash any rom, get error "error in /sdcard/<romname>.zip Error Status 1". Checked MD5s, all match.
So I decide to restore to factory defaults. I go to Settings, Privacy, Factory data reset. When I do this, the phone only restarts to Clockwork Recovery mod. It will only boot into CWM unless I "wipe cache partition". After this, I can boot into stock OS.
So what the hell is going on here? My goal is to get CM7 running on this device.
What do I need to do to get this going?
I didn't see any solutions in my forum search. I would appreciate some input.
Sprint-branded eh ?
are you talking about Black or Maquee ?

But though doesnt have anything to do with booting problems, he only wouldnt have network.
Your issue can be solved as follows.
As u said, u want CM7 on your device, download the nightly version, that you like.
boot to recovery, make full wipe (factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvic, wipe battery stats (both under advanced) ), go to install zip from SD card, choose zip, install it, reboot and enjoy
But as it seems, that your not that familiar with modding, flashing and so on, better first read some on those topics, in order to get the needed knowledge
I've already attempted to install CM7. My first post explains this. Let's review the situation:
* Rooted
* Installed CWM
* Attempted to install CM7, got status 1 error.
* Attempted to wipe phone, but it only boots into CWM.
I'm not sure what the problem is. I want to restore the phone to stock, and install CM7.
Anyone got a solution? If I can provide any other info that would be helpful, let me know.

where did you flash CM7 from ?
Rom Manager ? or Recovery ?
it boots into CWM,then, can you wipe it from CWM ?
Did u follow all my steps? Download (maybe try a different nightly version), Boot to CWM, Wipe EVERYTHING, as mentioned above, flash zip and everything should be fine
I've tried flashing cm7 both via rom manager, and directly in recovery. Same error (status 1).
It seems I am somehow unclear about my problem. Here are some images:
If I try to factory reset via Settings, Privacy, Factory Data Reset, the phone restarts, and boots into ClockworkRecovery Mod.
https://imgur.com/pFTh6
It will not boot to the Android OS until I perform "wipe cache partition".
If I try to flash cm7 (I've try five different nightlies) via CWM, I get this.

Again, I have full root. I have CWM installed. I have tried several versions of cm7, checked the MD5 on each one.

Update ur cwm... u have version 3.x i think 4 or 5 should be normal... so go to rom manager, select install cwm and install latest version. It might also be, that ur phone isnt compatible with cm.
Is it really p970, or is it maquee, or p970h? Check it pls ;-)

If I go to Settings, About Phone, it is listed as Model # LG-LS855.
If I go to ROM Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", it detects the phone as a "LG-LS855". Then it throws up an error that says:
"LG-LS855 does not have any officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod based recovery manually?"
To which i can answer yes, or no.
So, how should I go about updating my CWM if Rom Manager tells me it isn't officially supported?
Just checked and my version is v5.0.2.6
Edit
I just checked your pics and it seems you have lg marquee and there are no nightlies availiable yet...

Interesting... Thanks for your help.
So since I have a Marquee, I'd like to remove the CWM I have installed and just stay on stock with root.
How do I remove CWM?
The best probably is, to simply flash a fresh version of your software via B2C, then noone will see it has ever been rooted.
followed the instructions to update from cm7 to the cm9
- Upgrading from CM7?
Do a Nandroid Backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon

after the cwm flash phone reboots and shows the following:
1) AT&T white screen (from what i've read thats the pbl)
2) quick flash black screen
3) AT&T white screen again
4) a very quick list of text from what looks like cwm but too fast to read
5) repeats
Any ideas what went wrong?
I do have my phone back up and running but on Gingerbread via One Click K12 with Boogs kernel now. Had to use my home made jig to get into download mode...
Boot into recovery and flash the Glitch V14 Kernel first then CM9. It should fix that problem.

thanks for the reply, i'll give that a try once i get back to cm7
No, you just need to flash the ROM twice as the first flash sets the new partition layout and boot.img(kernel for MTD ROMs). Wipe EVERYTHING but SD card and boot.img in mounts and storage. Then flash again and flash GAPPS without rebooting!
hmmmmmmm, my memory is for crap, but as i recall once the rom flashed the first time the phone tried to reboot and went into what i would think would be called a boot loop. i wasn't able to boot into recovery to flash the 2nd time even if i knew to do that...
as i said though, i may be wrong.
To get out of the bootloop I usually do a battery pull and then do the 3 button combo to get to recovery and flash the second time
ok, i'm up and running although i thought at first something had screwed up again. Since i was coming from stock/rooted gb i used these instructions this time:
- First time flashing ICS to your Captivate (or coming from another ROM)?
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Reboot into Recovery using 3-button-combo
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon
Click to collapse
after first install i went right into the bootloop i described in my first post except this time it was the cm screen twice instead of the at&t. I used the 3 button hold to see if it would go into recovery, and it did
On b-eock's suggestion i then flashed the rom again...this time i got to the screen with all the tiles rotating across the screen, but after a few min i got an "encription" error and message that the process was intrupted and i had to do a factory reset... i click "ok" to see what happened and on the next boot i was up and running
Thank you gentlemen for the assistance
Hey Guys
I've got a problem since i flashed CM9 after a reflash 2.3.6 JVU with pit 512. I've flashed this GB rom to clean a little my system because it became so laggy. Now I'm on CM9 nightly of 12/07/2012 and I've lost my lockscreen, HOME button doesn't work ( but work on recovery ), and when I push the power button prolonged only 3 choices appear whereas normally there is 5 choices.
I noticed that when I flash the Rom by the recovery the progression bar isn't full when it finished and I think that there is a link between these two problems.

Well I've tried your solution and the problem appear on the GB rom too. I think it's the kernel who generate this problem when i flash the Semaphore one the problem appear.
Did you try a data wipe/factory reset? I had this problem once but no matter what I did it wouldn't go away. I ended up flashing a nightly, doing a wipe/factory reset (and formatting everything else in the CWM Mounts and storage section). Then reboot recovery and do a data wipe again. Worked for me!
EDIT - by everything in the mounts and storage section I meant /cache mainly. Not the sd cards.
The progress bar in recovery doesn't mean anything. The person who made the .zip chooses what % the bar will go to while stuff happens. I'm sure they could make it go backwards if they liked.
Edit: I've had that problem before. Just wipe all data and it should work the next time around. I think its caused by an ownership misalignment in the data partition. Once it starts your data is toast, ICS automatically deletes orphaned data.

Hi Gurus,
I am getting crazy and desperate after this problem: Samsung Ace GT-S5830, rooted, installed recovery clockwork 5.0.2.6, installed CM10.1 Cooper (tried various RC2, RC6, Nightly..) . The result I always get: as soon as I reboot, after the samsung logo it apperas a white screen for two seconds and then turns all black. I waited some time, 15-20 min, but the phone does not boot!!! This happens with several custom ROM.
When I use ODIN to get to stock firmware is OK, but I am not able to boot with CM10.1.. Please any help!!!
Thanks!
How did you flash it? What options did you pick in recovery? Can you name every option you picked as well?

Have attached the file. Check it out, though its the same file you used earlier. Use Odin to install Stock Firmware. I was on Gingerbread v2.3.6 when rooted using the attached file. Though you know the steps, let me put it on here.
-Use Odin to install Stock Firmware(You know how to connect the device & work on)
-Once the Stock Firmware is flashed successfully, check if your phone is good to go. Check if everything is working
-Now root your phone using the attached file.

Thanks, after at least 10 attepmts of rooting and reflashing with ODIN I managed to root the phone (confirmed by Root Checker).
(Each root file update.zip, upd_1.zip, root.zip only works with some specific stock firmware, so I managed to finally find the right one for root file update.zip).
NOW: I am trying to install CM10.1 with the following steps:
- Boot into CWM Recovery
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Format /System
- Install zip from SD card / choose ROM zip from SD card

Thanks, after at least 10 attepmts of rooting and reflashing with ODIN I managed to root the phone (confirmed by Root Checker).
(Each root file update.zip, upd_1.zip, root.zip only works with some specific stock firmware, so I managed to finally find the right one for root file update.zip).
NOW: I am trying to install CM10.1 with the following steps:
- Boot into CWM Recovery
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Format /System
- Install zip from SD card / choose ROM zip from SD card
but the boot fails (white screen for 2 seconds than black screen!!!)
I have already tried the following ROMs without success:
cm-10.1-20130503-NIGHTLY-cooper
cm-10.1.0-RC6-GT-S5830-cooper
cm-10.1.0-GT-S5830-cooper++

what's wrong¿?
Did you download the rom file correctly¿? Is the download file corrupted¿?
Is your sdcard corrupted¿? Did you try to format it in fat32 format?¿
Check it and then flash the rom again, CM roms work with whatever baseband you have, only with (2.3.x as base) and you need CWM5.x to flash this roms
IMPORTANT!! 5830I , 5830C and 5830M models aren't suppot!!!
help..
