G1 Battery Lasts Only 2 Hours (Help)

My G1 battery is only lasting 2 to 3 hours for some reason. it is a 1400 mAh by seidio. I am running the SuperFroyo 2.6 Lite by Superatmel. i got the battery online like 3 months ago and it was used. Any ideas or suggestions to save battery. and/or should i get a new battery? Thanks

Try another Rom Super D v1.9.3 and SuperFast v1.3.3 are excellent Donut (1.6) ones to test your battery issue.

I will bet that your battery issues are not ROM-related. Being that its an after-market battery, and used, it's probably outliving its life spam. To my knowledge, batteries are meant to provide a certain number of charges, every time you plug the power cable into the phone to charge it, that constitutes for one charge. Whether its for 5 minutes, or 5 hours. They usually have a set number, somewhere around 500 charges. After that, it slowly stops holding a solid charge.
I would suggest buying a NEW battery, not used.

Youre assumption is correct, thats why I directed him to flash a Donut rom to test and see if the short battery life occurs again.
Until we hear from him we wont be 100% in our hypothesis.
Youve gotten ahead of me and commented about the battery being the culprit, damn, beat me to it. ha ha ha.

i would say its lasting longer, but only by 1 to 2 hours more. so im going to buy a new battery. thanks for the advice tho

ALSO, while downgrading to Donut, While wiping, MAKE SURE your battery is FULLY CHARGED and wipe the battery stats. Check back.

ok my battery wasnt fully charged while wiping everything and downgrading. instead of re-flashing and downgrading can i just re-calibrate my battery? sorry for the late reply

i have a genuine battery , my g1 last one hour and 12 mins with the super froyo rom.]
real shame as i love the rom .

I have that rom and it the best battery life I have found so far on this phone...
There's a thread similar to this bellow and I recommended this:
3 thinks you can do
1)check for a better rom and\or verify if your gps, wi fi and on while this happens
2)Recalibrate your battery
2A Discharge it until it shuts itself off.
2B) Recharge it back to full and then leave it charging for another few hours even after it says it is full
2C)repeat if needed
3)buy a new one...

Battery to 100% - Required Parts

First post here, be easy on me. I love this Nexus S, my first android phone, but man this battery issue has really bothered me. I would wake up in the morning, take my phone off the charger and immediately be at 96%. After 15 minutes of checking emails and surfing, I would be below 90% by the time I got to work an hour later. I was spending half the day charging my battery, so I decided to order 2 OEM batteries and a wall charger off Ebay.
Well little I did I know that this would solve two problems. First, the wall charger charges the batteries to 100% and provides significantly more life. For some reason the phone does not let the battery truly get to 100%. Second, when I get home from work or wherever, I can just pop in another battery and be fully charged again. Now I don't have to sit and worry about charging my battery all the dang time, and my batteries are lasting much longer to boot using the wall charger. I am not sure I can post links yet, so what I ordered was an M9P wall charger for like $10 and a couple extra OEM batteries for $10/per on Ebay. I ordered from US sellers so I didnt have to wait weeks also. You might be able to find cheaper if you order from a hong kong seller. Anyway, I hope this helps someone as frustrated as me.

No trickle charge is applied because lithium-ion is unable to absorb overcharge. A continuous trickle charge above 4.05V/cell would causes plating of metallic lithium that could lead to instabilities and compromise safety. Instead, a brief topping charge is provided to compensate for the small self-discharge the battery and its protective circuit consume. … Typically, the charge kicks in when the open terminal voltage drops to 4.05V/cell and turns off at a high 4.20V/cell.
There is a whole lot more info on that site, but I’ll sum up the excerpt, if you continually charge a Lithium Ion battery, it will degrade, and worst case explode, but hey, at least it looks cool when it does.
Just don’t end up like others have, for example, a Chinese man who took his phone off the charger, put it in his pocket, and then it exploded. IMO. I rather have it sit at 95% than to have my phone catch on fire. Better safe than sorry.

I've been charging my mobile devices to 100% for years with no issues. I'm not too worried about it since I don't mod my phone. All I wanted to do was have a battery that lasts and I now have that. Thank you.

There's an app medication for that ...

in the end charging via USB/PC gets a fuller charge because its more of a trickle, though it can be dangerous

The battery level reads a full 100% when I plug the fully charged battery in. I just changed battery again this morning.

From what I am seeing and how much longer my battery is lasting, I am getting a fuller charge and WAY longer battery life charging batteries in the wall charger. I had the same issue as many others with this phone. The battery wouldn't charge to 100% and general battery life is pretty poor. I thought my phone was bad so I exchanged it and the battery life was identical.
I recommend everyone who questions my results, if you have a spare $20 and are sick of the poor battery performance of this phone to get a wall charger and spare OEM battery off Ebay or wherever. Theories are nice and everyone has one but I'll take real world results over theories any day.

Battery life is actually pretty good on this phone. Try owning the evo. I never seen a phone with worst battery life.

"WAY longer battery life"? Really really? I'm having some trouble believing this. The standard battery is 1500mAh. Are the extra batteries the same capacity? Because we are talking about something around 4-6% more power here.
This is either confirmation bias or blatant advertising.

Obviously i'm not advertising, I am just posting my observations. My battery is lasting several hours longer than it did before under similar use. Right now I'm going on 6.5hrs of light use and I'm still at 81%. The OEM batteries I bought show the exact same part # as the one that came in the phone, but say 1440mah instead of 1500. I'm not observing any difference in how long they last compared to the original battery as today I am on the 1440 one.
I've been in the IT field for 18+ years. I know the difference between real results and 'confirmation bias'. These are real results I have experienced. You are more than welcome to share yours if you choose to spend $20 and duplicate what I did.

I don't believe that unless your wonder-charger is literally cooking the batteries to death by some serious over-charging.

So, the original battery to 1500mAh, charged to 96% in the phone would give ... 1440mAh. And range anxiety.
But the extra batteries, charged to 100% in the wonder-charger would give ... 1440mAh. And a peaceful feeling.
Yeah, I don't really see the "WAY longer battery life" here. If those 4-6% extra charge gives "several hours longer" then a full charge would be good for a couple of days of use anyway. And yet you were "spending half the day charging your battery". There's something odd about your story. The numbers don't really add up.

No thanks. I have that exact same charger, and an extra original battery. If that charger actually makes that much of a difference, I don't want to cook my spare battery to death with it.
But feel free to back your claims by some real numbers taken from, you know, objective tests. One battery charged in the phone, the other in the wonder-charger. Then do the exact same thing (play music or whatever) until the batteries hit 15% remaining. Then post the elapsed times here.

Your condescending tone isn't worth my breath. My results are my results and I wished to share them with other people having battery issues and what I did to resolve them. I will continue 'cooking' my $10 batteries to a full charge and having a phone last several hours longer than it did before I started 'cooking'. You can do whatever with yours. Just like what you said, you're new to XDA so I wouldn't be too fond on trusting you either because you haven't been around too long.
I'll continue to stick to my battery. Grats on your long battery.

I go a full day with heavy use on my stock battery. Not sure what your problem is. Unless you can put up some real numbers though, this thread is not worth anyone's time.

After ordering both an OEM battery and the M9P charger I can confirm this.
I don't have screenshots yet, but The stock battery and the replacement OEM batteries I ordered. Function at around 4-6 hours more on the wall charger. With the stock charger charging my stock battery, I was seeing around 16-19hours with heavy use(phone and phone+bluetooth/text/web/youtube) with the M9P charger charging the battery, I have seen roughly a 4-6 hour improvement in battery life depending upon the usage change(i.e if i'm playing angry bird or NFS Shift along with other normal stuff)
I am, however, convinced the pulse charging vs. trickle charging done by the stock charger won't shorten the battery life. Plating will be come a real problem later on down the line, but with any smartphone, I don't expect to keep a battery longer than a year with my use before i either replace the phone or the battery.
If you guys want battery history shots, or whatever you might need to to help you get a better picture of what's going on, please let me know. I'd be happy to provide them.

Thanks for confirming my results. I was very displeased with the battery life of this phone, but since I went to the wall charger and just swapping batteries, I am getting a full 24hrs use and still have 10-20% left when I swap before work every morning. All in all a pretty cheap investment for the gains.
I am not seeing any noticeable difference between the 1440mah and 1500mah batteries either.

Just wanted to post my experience about battery life. It lasts almost two days (I switch off my phone for six hours every night). It wouldn't charge more than 95-96% every time. And it took really long time to charge too, with the oem charger. And then I tried my wife's Nokia charger, which is also 5V output but 1200mA instead of 700mA the oem is. And charged it turned on. And there it was! A bit less charging time, and for the first time it said 100% charged. That happened the last 6 charges with the Nokia charger. I hope I am not damaging the battery with what I'm doing. I can't say it lasts more than before. Nothing noticable. But at least it's fully charged and it doesn't take all day to charge.

i get 100% everytime when i unplug it will either drop to 97% or to 96% but will still last a whole day of use. i dont charge my battery unless it turns red with the X or till it shuts itself off.

Negative. My charge time was ridiculously slow. To the point that while I was charging in my car, if I was doing things along side it, my battery would actually go down. Plugged into wall, it is slow but charges though. Maybe its just US or a small number?

Waiting to get mine still. Did anyone else notice that on Sprint's website it said the One has a 19 hour battery life?

It seemed a little better this afternoon, but I've basically had the device plugged in since this morning(10am)(got it at 55%, and albeit the majority of the time, it was plugged into the vehicle[which hasn't been very good anyways[[my GS3 also loses battery while on charge if doing anything concerning navigation or streaming]]]) and it literally hit 100% about 20 minutes ago. granted I've been using it like a pack mule. and I'm sure you have too.

i heard they packed a li-polymer battery which makes the battery hold its charge longer for the life of the battery when compared to a li-ion battery.. and i dont think htc enabled fast charge like most devices...maybe someone will mod that for us...we need fast charge!!!!!!! still waiting on my ONE

Actually I haven't used it at all. Got it at 2 PM, was at 60%. Dropped my mom off at the airport immediately after, came home and it was 50% at 3:20 PM (which is okay because LTE was on by default and it's super patchy here so I turned it off). Plugged it in and showered, 15 minute shower and I come out and it's 50% still (plugged directly into the wall). Went to work at 5, 55% when I got there. Plugged it in to the computer we have at the front desk and over the course of my 5 hour shift it eventually hit 95% before I had to leave at 10 PM. Un-****ing-acceptable.

yeah, I'd say mine is a little better than that. I left the screen off and didn't use it for like 2 hours and it went from 73% to 91.

I don't have my One yet so I can't confirm this personally, but I've read in a few different places that the charging rate is a little slow compared to other phones. My guess is that HTC is trying to maximize the lifespan of the battery since it's non-removable. Quicker charging would generate more heat and might cause it to wear it out faster.

First day I got 15 hours. That was the usual installing apps and watching YouTube videos and showing my phone off to everyone at work. Will probably be awesome once I don't have such heavy usage.

If I'm not mistaken, the phone has a smart battery or a circuit inside the battery that prevents it from drawing too much current. It is pretty much a standard among smartphones these days. Therefore, even though you use the 2 amp charger, you may not charge faster at all.

I have a 2.1amp charger and it took about 4hours to fully charge from 15%.

Horribly slow charge times on mine as well. I think the GS3s super fast charge ability spoiled me.

My Galaxy S3 definitely charges faster with a 2AMP charger than 500 mA charger.
Do not charge from a computers USB port, they are going to be slow as **** without fast charge.
Just use a 1+ amp charger. Pretty simple people.

Don't put excessive work load on the device while charging in the car either

I've found thats too much for most phones. It all depends on the charger(most car adapters are crappy), I'd assume. I've had the same with Evo, Optimus, GS2, and GS3. If anything is running alongside gps/navi, it destroys the battery

Turbo Charger on Overnight?

I always charge my phones overnight when I go to bed. Not that it takes that long for a battery to charge, it's just when it's convenient. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this.
My question is if the Turbo Charger that comes with the phone will hurt the battery long term if I keep it plugged in all night. Or is is smart enough to shut off and/or lower it's power draw from the wall. I know a lot of people have hypothesized that the battery will have a shorter life cycle with the abuse the Turbo Charger will deliver time and time again.

Can't answer your question specifically, but read where the phone fast charges up until a certain percentage is left. I'm thinking that it fast charges up to 75 or 80%, then reverts to the regular slow charge.

Going forward, a huge number of phones are going to support Snapdragons Quick charge technology, the turbo is not the first nor will it be the last that will have this feature. I am no expert on this, but I HIGHLY doubt that Moto (and all of the other companies that will be supporting this technology) would package a charger with a phone and advertise this feature if it has the possibility of damaging the battery.
I plug my phone in every night like you, personally I am not going to worry about it. I think a lot of people charge their phones when they go to bed as well, I have to imagine the engineers thought this one through.

I'm agree in the part that I highly doubt that companies put harmful accessories with their products, it won't make any sense.

I noted that the phone gets real hot when charging until 80%, and then it starts to cool down, maybe is because of what you said.

I plan on using a regular charger for overnight, and keep my turbo charger at work for my long shifts. Just in case.

I have been using the turbo charger daily since the release. I too have my phone charge overnight with it and haven't encountered any negative effects or problems at all. The phone cools down for me after 60%. This cpu and charger are intelligent in handling the voltage and what not to not harm battery. If it was harmful then qualcomm wouldn't be inputing so much research and tests to have a stable version of quick charge. Keep that in mind too

Been using quick charging for 6 months including plugging in overnight while breaking every rule about charging batteries with no noticeable losses. As stated quick charging only goes at full speed during the first part of the charge, 70 percent is often mentioned. In practice the full charge phase is dependent on battery temp which is monitored per cell and other factors. I recall reading that such charging has a theoretical perfect world capability of charging 1amp in 6 minutes and we are nowhere near that. There is a lot of research and testing in quicker charging methodology and it has been in use in other areas for several years, I'm thinking there isn't much to be concerned over in any aspect of it.
Edit, just an FYI... My Oppo charger works on the Maxx and the Maxx charger works on the Find 7, I get full speed with either charger on either device. I have one of the Verizon car quick chargers and I can confirm it also works on both devices and charges full speed. Nice to know we can do some mix and match on these.

I use Ampere to see the rate I am getting. First plug in might only be 90 mah. I unplug, replug, it jumps up to 350. A couple more times and I end up at 900-1200. Screen off and let it fast charge.

I recently tried out the HTC Bolt for a couple weeks and it seemed to charge much faster than my V20. Shouldn't it be the other way around since the Bolt uses quick charging 2.0 while the V20 uses Quick charging 3.0?

My H910 charges relatively quickly. Just plugged it into a quickcharge 2.0, not 3.0 car charger and it went from 16% to 50% in ~25 minutes.

I regularly get rates of 1.8A or greater using a CHOETECH or Anker charger. One its above 80%, it drops down, but this is normal.
The Anker is QC3.0 and the CHOETECH are QC2.0

even my old G2 get 50% battery in half an hour.
what's with V20?
it uses QC 3.0, but charge slower.
I use original V20 charger, and when charging the status is "quick charging.."
it takes 2 hours from 27% to 100%

looks like something really wrong with your phone. My phone usually takes about 75 mins to charge from 0% to 100%

maybe, but it looks like not just me though.
and btw, my LG G2 can do full charge in 1 hour and 20 mins (80 minutes), and it's not even QC 3.0
I read somewhere in gsmarena, QC 3.0 should charge to 80% in 30 mins

not sure about G2. I've never had one.
QC 3.0 might be able to do it technically, but I've never seen a phone that fast in charging yet. Not even the OP3T which every body is saying quickest in charging.

That grandpa tooks around 2+ hrs to get full charge
But to be fair with the phone, I've never used the original charger of G Flex 2 to charge. I either used my old chargers from previous phones or I plugged it into my laptop to charge it. Let me find the original charger and try it when i get back home

I have absolutely no complaints with the charging speed. Also, I rarely drop below 40%.

My battery takes forever to charge up!
I just bought a VS995 Verizon Unlocked off the net. Was classified as "almost new - open box", hope I did NOT get a unit with problems. Re-charged it now a total of 5 times and on average (plus or minus 3-5 minutes) it takes approx. 3 hours and 18 minutes. for a full charge 0% to 100% . A few thoughts and questions came to mind while reading all your excellent posts:
1.) I believe he must of lost his quick charger because the one he gave me seems like he bought it off the net. Standard USB charger. So probably not using the quick charge function feature of this phone correct?
2.) Can I goto an electronics store and just copy whatever voltage and amps I need to perform a quick charge? Can someone please POST what the voltages and amps needed for a quick charge 3.0 please.
3.) Anyone have a bad battery or have one go bad after using the wrong charging devices? I was thinking of ordering a new battery BUT they are a little pricey. Anyone know some good outlets to buy them at a fair price?
4.) Does rooting the device and putting one of the ROM's on their cell solve anyone's battery problem? If so which ROM do you recommend?
Overall that is my only gripe about the phone. I love the DAC and for all you music lovers out there try Sirius XM on the LG-V20 and make sure to use Hi-Fi made headphones. I bought myself Bowers and Wilkens P7's, sort of pricey but worth it to me. The other thing is Napster as well the songs you download sound awesome with this DAC. For both of these APPS make sure you go into settings and adjust the quality of the downloads and streaming. Otherwise you could be listening to it with poor quality settings from the get go.
Ok well I appreciate any help or advice on my battery situation!

Any charger that says Quick Charge 3.0 would work. I think even QC 2.0 would charge at the same speed, but just less energy efficient.

The difference between qc 2 and 3 is 3 has a variable voltage allowing it to use energy more efficiently.
Excess energy is lost as heat on qc2, the power is reduced in qc3 when the battery starts to get full.
The charge time is the same.
Specs for QC 2 is 5V / 9V/ 12V, specs for QC 3 is
3.2v - 20v dynamic
