New recovery method being developed for Android - LG Revolution

Looks awesome and very user friendly. I wonder what the chances are for a port for the Revo?
http://m.androidcentral.com/first-look-teamwin-recovery-project-twrp-20

That is awesome...

It's only for Honeycomb Tablets though

It has already been ported to some Android phones i.e. thunderbolt been using it for months especially when that buggy clockwork came out and backups weren't working

Yeah, I noticed that it was ported for some phones. Would be nice to see it make it's rounds to ours, but this would definitely mean some "near brick experiences" would be in order.
Unfortunately, our guru in this field has been AFK for a while...

I would like to see it as well it is definitely faster

Looks nice - would certainly be a plus to have that for the Revolution

noob question will it support these themes, dying for that isms theme
I know it's my fault for even responding but...
What are you even talking about? Will it support what themes? There's not a MIUI ROM for the Vivid.

I am super keen on miui as well, and as it is based on CyanogenMod for drivers and behind the scenes stuff, yes cm must come to our phones first.
This was the one thing making me hesitate between the velocity and the galaxy nexus in the end, I figured it would be ported eventually and rolled the dice... hopefully I don't get snake eyes
I'll prolly end up with the next generation iPhone before this happens

LG Revolution for HTC Thunderbolt?

Need input, guys.
I've got a Bolt and a guy off of Craigslist is offering to trade his two day old Revolution with extended battery for my Bolt with extended battery.
What do you guys think about that? How does your phone compare? Is there good development for the Revolution? I only saw a couple of active ROMS on here.

There's mainly one ROM creater, MT, but the thunderbolt is getting ICS and prolly has more devs. Its up to you. But LG support for this phone sucks. If you like the t bolt stick with it.

This is my opinion but keep the Thunderbolt. I was gonna choose that phone over the Revo but I chose the Revo and I'd say it was my biggest mistake since I like the Bolt more but the Revo's community is quite nice and welcoming not so sure about the Thunderbolt's.

As of right now the only way to root it is to manually flash it with ZV7. You can then use MT's tools to root it, get your update to ZV8, and finally flash the Broken Out 1.1 ROM (which is awesome by the way).

Welcome to the forum please feel free to post and ask questions, there are a lot of supportive people here that make the revo shine.
The downside is theres only a few rom devs the upside is the commun. While small its personal and you get the help you need quick. No cm7 yet but the roms we do have are solid and get updated quickly and often.
Well the guy backed out on it but I appreciate the positivity. Definitely lacking that on the Bolt forum.

What new android phone should I get?

Hey guys, pretty straight forward.
Just to let you know, I really don't want an HTC one x, or any other phone with poor battery life.
Things that matter:
Screen size: 4in+
Processor
Camera quality
HARDWARE in general
Overall feel of the phone in your hand
I would prefer the least amount of plastic on the phone as possible.
Thanks guys

Plastic is a nice thing....
Do you have a carrier preference? Are you wanting to stay with VZW?
HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Outstanding battery life.
16GB internal storage and a micro sd slot.
Blazing fast processor.
It feels solid as a rock.
It has the best screen of any phone I have ever used, 4.7 inch.
The camera on this phone is phenomenal. Here is a thread with pics from it.
All in all this is the best phone I have ever owned.
The evo 4G is very intriguing.
As far as carrier, I don't care at all.
So far the phones in the race are:
Sony xperia ion
HTC evo 4g
Samsung galaxy s3
These are just so far. Feel free to offer any handset as a suggestion. I'll put up a poll when I get into the preliminaries.

I'm jelly of ya'll that have more than one carrier with service in your area.
Does the Nexus not even get a honorable mention simply because it gets the newest Android versions before any other phones? I agree that there is better hardware on the market, but I love showing off all the new features before anyone else gets them. My buddy just posted on fb how he got ICS on his RAZR, I replied "It can't do a barrel roll." Its fun to be smug about firmware lol.
I got my hands on a SGSIII and I liked it allot, big good looking screen, felt good in my hand, fast and smooth. I rooted it and gave it back to my buddy. Plus the Galaxy S phones have good development so you wont be waiting too much longer than Nexus for custom ROMs and such..
The nexus was in the running, but the camera threw it out for me.
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
If you want to be certain you'll get 1st party updates without waiting them definitely Galaxy Nexus. The camera, however, isn't too good.
Personal suggestion is S2. I haven't found one con from this phone, it's fast,I like its screen,a lot of development here, camera is excellent. It also packs a 1 6GB flash memory and a micro SD slot.

Most unique/different ROM

Hey guys i'm looking for a rom that is unique and not just nova/trebucht/apex launcher. Something really unique and different. I'm currently trying out miui.
MIUI on the Nexus 7... that is just an upscaled version of the same UI that you get on every phone that MIUI supports.
Other ROMs are also a no-go if you want something different, because all of them more or less use the same UI as AOSP.
You could try Paranoid Android, but somehow it was not really appealing, at least not to me.

there is nothing that's themed differently or different at all? Getting bored of the same layout. Although I think ubuntu fir N7 mobile version is releasing tomorrow.
Honestly, as a ROM junkie, I've just stuck with stock since there isn't really much of a compelling reason to change. Maybe just try a different launcher? I admit, I've loved MIUI on a phone, but have no desire to use it on a tablet unless it gets tabletified.

Why is ROM development so slow for HTC phones?

I'm trying to decide between the sprint galaxy s 4, and the HTC one. My concern with the HTC is ROM development, my original galaxy s gets fully working cyanogenmod before a useful rom is made for my evo 3D. This seems to be the case with most all of their devices.
Why is it this way? Will the HTC one be this way as well? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

lol! Cyanogenmod ROM comes first before stock ROM? Ain't believing it buddy
useful ROM = Stock ROM
Nono, the evo 3d has unofficial cyanogenmod at least 3 months after the epic 4g receives official. Two, unofficial AOSP roms seem to be more stable (and released earlier) on galaxy s devices than htc devices why is that? Both being flagships, what leaves htc behind in custom AOSP roms?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My galaxy s would be on. 2.3, it is now on 4.2. The evo would be on 4.0 with outdated sense, it is now on 4.1. Nexus 7, stock 4.2. I use stock until the phone ages, and stock isn't good enough. I plan to have my next phone for 2 years, I might as well choose a phone that will stay current throughout those two years.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
HTC supports the flagship in every way possible, look at the One X. Even the newly released One is getting OTA at a crazy rate. And for custom rom developers, my Desire HD has fully stable 4.2.2 CM, AOKP and even paranoid. I hope this was helpful

I've never owned a Samsung, but I've owned 2 HTCs, and my device is great in durability. I have this phone for about 2.5 years and I drop it around once every 3 days (obviously not intentionally) and it still runs good, no issues. For Samsung, you should read Samsung forums.

Ohh ok I got it now. Unfortunately there's won't be any CM or AOSP ROMs until kernel source code is out. Thing is Stock kernel is not compatible with AOSP/CM ROMs and the other way around since both custom and stock has some functions added to the kernel for it to work.
And the thing here is samsung releases kernel source code earlier than HTC. So it really depends on the situation. And by the way samsung is not releasing opening up it's exynos to developers. And now that samsung implemented octa core & big little architecture on their new processors. I doubt they would be able to make a CM/AOSP ROM anytime soon on S4.
I know cm10.1 runs slow as heck on my wife's one x as a custom sense rom works smooth as butter. On my note 2 cm10.1 actually runs better than any touchwiz rom. My advice is to wait until there both out and go see them in person. Both phones will get a good bit of development.
Thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Do you think the unlocking/s off process going to be simple to get it to run AOSP? I had to do the horrifying "wire trick" to get AOSP on the evo 3d.

You don't need s-off to run aosp. You just need to unlock on htc dev or buy the dev edition one that htc will offer. But yes I'm sure in time we will get s-off for everyone. Lol.. I remember the wire trick, I used to own a rezound, horrid phone. No I just did s-off on my wife's new one x and its just a command line hack and software.

Doubt that, it's not unusual for phones to ship a version behind. But with the s4 shipping with the latest I'd hope htc will push an update ASAP.
