noob question will it support these themes, dying for that isms theme
I know it's my fault for even responding but...
What are you even talking about? Will it support what themes? There's not a MIUI ROM for the Vivid.

I am super keen on miui as well, and as it is based on CyanogenMod for drivers and behind the scenes stuff, yes cm must come to our phones first.
This was the one thing making me hesitate between the velocity and the galaxy nexus in the end, I figured it would be ported eventually and rolled the dice... hopefully I don't get snake eyes
I'll prolly end up with the next generation iPhone before this happens

You should have researched which phones of the current generation already support MIUI, SGS2 and and SGN already have it

Hey guys, pretty straight forward.
Just to let you know, I really don't want an HTC one x, or any other phone with poor battery life.
Things that matter:
Screen size: 4in+
Processor
Camera quality
HARDWARE in general
Overall feel of the phone in your hand
I would prefer the least amount of plastic on the phone as possible.
Thanks guys

Plastic is a nice thing....
Do you have a carrier preference? Are you wanting to stay with VZW?
HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Outstanding battery life.
16GB internal storage and a micro sd slot.
Blazing fast processor.
It feels solid as a rock.
It has the best screen of any phone I have ever used, 4.7 inch.
The camera on this phone is phenomenal. Here is a thread with pics from it.
All in all this is the best phone I have ever owned.
The evo 4G is very intriguing.
As far as carrier, I don't care at all.
So far the phones in the race are:
Sony xperia ion
HTC evo 4g
Samsung galaxy s3
These are just so far. Feel free to offer any handset as a suggestion. I'll put up a poll when I get into the preliminaries.

It has a 1080 p screen so everything would be awesome

I'm jelly of ya'll that have more than one carrier with service in your area.
Does the Nexus not even get a honorable mention simply because it gets the newest Android versions before any other phones? I agree that there is better hardware on the market, but I love showing off all the new features before anyone else gets them. My buddy just posted on fb how he got ICS on his RAZR, I replied "It can't do a barrel roll." Its fun to be smug about firmware lol.
I got my hands on a SGSIII and I liked it allot, big good looking screen, felt good in my hand, fast and smooth. I rooted it and gave it back to my buddy. Plus the Galaxy S phones have good development so you wont be waiting too much longer than Nexus for custom ROMs and such..
The nexus was in the running, but the camera threw it out for me.
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
If you want to be certain you'll get 1st party updates without waiting them definitely Galaxy Nexus. The camera, however, isn't too good.
Personal suggestion is S2. I haven't found one con from this phone, it's fast,I like its screen,a lot of development here, camera is excellent. It also packs a 1 6GB flash memory and a micro SD slot.

I'm tired of HTC. If you've had an htc you know what I'm talking about. My reason has to do with source code and their violation of the gpl, hardware issues etc..It seems they are now quantity over quality.
I'd like to get an idea of how many people are leaving or have left HTC. Maybe we can send them this see if they care about their financial loss.
HTC Amaze for possibly a Nexus.
I've loved all my HTC phones, I've never had an issue with one that I didn't have with at least one other maker. Although I've switched to Motorola recently, I still believe in htc.

Those were the days. Their sense is awesome. Sense bliss 3.5, ICS sense 3.6, sense 4 (awesome ) but now not enough development on them plus now you got horrible light bleeding from the capacitive keys to WiFi issues on their newest one x. To them not being development friendly.

This is the main reason I myself got so deeply interested in the Android community. I've been strictly a Linux user for years (Windows and the whole Microsoft company are way to money hungry and can't develop anything worthwhile), and although Ubuntu isn't my distro of choice I would love to have it ported to my device.
A dual boot scenario of Android and Ubuntu would be awesome!:victory:
Multi booting Android/Ubuntu is possible on a Nexus 7, and it works wonderfully. I would recommend you get one if that is what you've been longing for. Check the forums here. It's pretty easy to do. Here's a link for ya. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403

I'm trying to decide between the sprint galaxy s 4, and the HTC one. My concern with the HTC is ROM development, my original galaxy s gets fully working cyanogenmod before a useful rom is made for my evo 3D. This seems to be the case with most all of their devices.
Why is it this way? Will the HTC one be this way as well? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

lol! Cyanogenmod ROM comes first before stock ROM? Ain't believing it buddy
useful ROM = Stock ROM
Nono, the evo 3d has unofficial cyanogenmod at least 3 months after the epic 4g receives official. Two, unofficial AOSP roms seem to be more stable (and released earlier) on galaxy s devices than htc devices why is that? Both being flagships, what leaves htc behind in custom AOSP roms?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My galaxy s would be on. 2.3, it is now on 4.2. The evo would be on 4.0 with outdated sense, it is now on 4.1. Nexus 7, stock 4.2. I use stock until the phone ages, and stock isn't good enough. I plan to have my next phone for 2 years, I might as well choose a phone that will stay current throughout those two years.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
HTC supports the flagship in every way possible, look at the One X. Even the newly released One is getting OTA at a crazy rate. And for custom rom developers, my Desire HD has fully stable 4.2.2 CM, AOKP and even paranoid. I hope this was helpful

I really think that the One is getting a huge developer community. Look at the android development thread. 4 ROMs already released (with tweaks) while only a few have got the device till now

I'm beginning to think that the evo 3d was just a horrible buy. I hope that the fact they're releasing the exact same device across all networks helps development. Still can't decide between the S4 and this. Both very good phones.

I've never owned a Samsung, but I've owned 2 HTCs, and my device is great in durability. I have this phone for about 2.5 years and I drop it around once every 3 days (obviously not intentionally) and it still runs good, no issues. For Samsung, you should read Samsung forums.

Ohh ok I got it now. Unfortunately there's won't be any CM or AOSP ROMs until kernel source code is out. Thing is Stock kernel is not compatible with AOSP/CM ROMs and the other way around since both custom and stock has some functions added to the kernel for it to work.
And the thing here is samsung releases kernel source code earlier than HTC. So it really depends on the situation. And by the way samsung is not releasing opening up it's exynos to developers. And now that samsung implemented octa core & big little architecture on their new processors. I doubt they would be able to make a CM/AOSP ROM anytime soon on S4.
I know cm10.1 runs slow as heck on my wife's one x as a custom sense rom works smooth as butter. On my note 2 cm10.1 actually runs better than any touchwiz rom. My advice is to wait until there both out and go see them in person. Both phones will get a good bit of development.
Thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Do you think the unlocking/s off process going to be simple to get it to run AOSP? I had to do the horrifying "wire trick" to get AOSP on the evo 3d.

You don't need s-off to run aosp. You just need to unlock on htc dev or buy the dev edition one that htc will offer. But yes I'm sure in time we will get s-off for everyone. Lol.. I remember the wire trick, I used to own a rezound, horrid phone. No I just did s-off on my wife's new one x and its just a command line hack and software.

Doubt that, it's not unusual for phones to ship a version behind. But with the s4 shipping with the latest I'd hope htc will push an update ASAP.
Just curious if development for this device has been lost for our lowly 8.9 LTE? I know we never had any serious effort but I would love to have a good rom to run on this device. I ran the Danno Rom for a short while but had to go back to stock due to issues I can't remember now. This really is a perfect form factor device just need some Dev love for it. Come on guys this should be interesting because it is a challenge to find the right stuff to make things work on this device.
