Ubuntu Touch - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I have been reading about this lately. From what I understand is that it can be ported to any device capable of running CM 10.1.....CM 10.1 and CM 10 are both jellybean. Is it possible to use CM 10 as the base since we have it?

There are still bugs in the jb roms so let's focus on that first then we could port ubuntu

This is the main reason I myself got so deeply interested in the Android community. I've been strictly a Linux user for years (Windows and the whole Microsoft company are way to money hungry and can't develop anything worthwhile), and although Ubuntu isn't my distro of choice I would love to have it ported to my device.
A dual boot scenario of Android and Ubuntu would be awesome!:victory:

Multi booting Android/Ubuntu is possible on a Nexus 7, and it works wonderfully. I would recommend you get one if that is what you've been longing for. Check the forums here. It's pretty easy to do. Here's a link for ya. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403

yeah, multirom works great on N7, but I dont think the vivid has any kind of dual booting support...

I am super keen on miui as well, and as it is based on CyanogenMod for drivers and behind the scenes stuff, yes cm must come to our phones first.
This was the one thing making me hesitate between the velocity and the galaxy nexus in the end, I figured it would be ported eventually and rolled the dice... hopefully I don't get snake eyes

Nexus 7, is it a tablet? Will it get Android 4.2 multiuser feature?

Anyone know?
It's not a phone, that's for sure.

so, in the tittle you ask if nexus 7 is a tablet, then in the message you affirm is not a phone.
Then, 4.2 will be untouched version of the 4.2 system.
I really don't think this thread is needed at all. Common sense can answer all you questions.
It is most definitely a tablet!
But I am not sure why I should be thrilled about multiuser management.
The thing with nexus 7 is that, while its no phone nor a 10", you always take it with you.
So in my opinion there is not much point in multiuser management for me.
But to come back to your question: IT IS A TABLET!
It's a Tablet that is obvious, also FYI for now on AOSP will share same UI regardless of if it's a phone or a tablet.

I can't predict Google anymore. When they released Nexus 7 without landscape support, who would think it's not a tablet? Do you remember people keep asking for tablet ui? Do you remember all kinds of hacks to make Nexus 7 a tablet?

Google chose the UI so anyone who isnt familiar with Android would have the same user experience between phone and tablet, sort of like the iphone and ipad. Multiuser accounts will be there, (one unified OS) people will have kids, spouses, nieces, and nephews no matter the size of the tablet.

:good: and I even like it with 4.2!
I love mine too! 4.2 not so much until Devs catch up and we have Recoveries that play nice with it. It also broke ability to use USB storage devices with it. I got it from playstore when it came out. It arrived the 2nd day after. 1st thing was unlock and root. Ran stock 4.1.2 until I put on a custom 4.2 (plain vanilla )rom. I previously had Galaxy Tab 7.0+. Very expensive and I thought I was getting the best. It was OK, but my 32Gb N7 beats it six ways from Sunday in smoothness, reliability. Also the GT7 had a proprietary charge and data port/cable. It was USB but you needed a converter cable for lots of stuff. The N7 is great out of the box but awesome!! when unlocked, rooted and rom'ed. Everything just seems to work better. Movies, music, email, calendar, notes, to do's games, You name it. Now if I could just make calls on it...oh, wait, with Google (Voice?) you can I am told!
Problem with 4.2 is it messed up the sd card file partitions so that I can no longer make Nandroid back-ups. I sure it will be fixed in a few days. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the crap out of this thing.
Loved it since I bought it. Eyeing the N73G for the holidays, then the Mrs. Gets the 16.

Loving my nexus 7 as well. As a apple fanboy the nexus really has impressed me. The only thing I don't love about the nexus (android problem i guess) is that none of the browsers can compare to the Safari-browser found in the ios echo system. Sluggish scrolling, accidently clicking links when scrolling never happens to me on my ipad or iphone. Google, tweak the chrome-browser and my apple fanboy days might be over.

Most unique/different ROM

Hey guys i'm looking for a rom that is unique and not just nova/trebucht/apex launcher. Something really unique and different. I'm currently trying out miui.
MIUI on the Nexus 7... that is just an upscaled version of the same UI that you get on every phone that MIUI supports.
Other ROMs are also a no-go if you want something different, because all of them more or less use the same UI as AOSP.
You could try Paranoid Android, but somehow it was not really appealing, at least not to me.

there is nothing that's themed differently or different at all? Getting bored of the same layout. Although I think ubuntu fir N7 mobile version is releasing tomorrow.
Honestly, as a ROM junkie, I've just stuck with stock since there isn't really much of a compelling reason to change. Maybe just try a different launcher? I admit, I've loved MIUI on a phone, but have no desire to use it on a tablet unless it gets tabletified.

Why is ROM development so slow for HTC phones?

I'm trying to decide between the sprint galaxy s 4, and the HTC one. My concern with the HTC is ROM development, my original galaxy s gets fully working cyanogenmod before a useful rom is made for my evo 3D. This seems to be the case with most all of their devices.
Why is it this way? Will the HTC one be this way as well? I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

lol! Cyanogenmod ROM comes first before stock ROM? Ain't believing it buddy
useful ROM = Stock ROM
Nono, the evo 3d has unofficial cyanogenmod at least 3 months after the epic 4g receives official. Two, unofficial AOSP roms seem to be more stable (and released earlier) on galaxy s devices than htc devices why is that? Both being flagships, what leaves htc behind in custom AOSP roms?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My galaxy s would be on. 2.3, it is now on 4.2. The evo would be on 4.0 with outdated sense, it is now on 4.1. Nexus 7, stock 4.2. I use stock until the phone ages, and stock isn't good enough. I plan to have my next phone for 2 years, I might as well choose a phone that will stay current throughout those two years.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
HTC supports the flagship in every way possible, look at the One X. Even the newly released One is getting OTA at a crazy rate. And for custom rom developers, my Desire HD has fully stable 4.2.2 CM, AOKP and even paranoid. I hope this was helpful

I've never owned a Samsung, but I've owned 2 HTCs, and my device is great in durability. I have this phone for about 2.5 years and I drop it around once every 3 days (obviously not intentionally) and it still runs good, no issues. For Samsung, you should read Samsung forums.

Ohh ok I got it now. Unfortunately there's won't be any CM or AOSP ROMs until kernel source code is out. Thing is Stock kernel is not compatible with AOSP/CM ROMs and the other way around since both custom and stock has some functions added to the kernel for it to work.
And the thing here is samsung releases kernel source code earlier than HTC. So it really depends on the situation. And by the way samsung is not releasing opening up it's exynos to developers. And now that samsung implemented octa core & big little architecture on their new processors. I doubt they would be able to make a CM/AOSP ROM anytime soon on S4.
I know cm10.1 runs slow as heck on my wife's one x as a custom sense rom works smooth as butter. On my note 2 cm10.1 actually runs better than any touchwiz rom. My advice is to wait until there both out and go see them in person. Both phones will get a good bit of development.
Thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Do you think the unlocking/s off process going to be simple to get it to run AOSP? I had to do the horrifying "wire trick" to get AOSP on the evo 3d.

You don't need s-off to run aosp. You just need to unlock on htc dev or buy the dev edition one that htc will offer. But yes I'm sure in time we will get s-off for everyone. Lol.. Doubt that, it's not unusual for phones to ship a version behind. But with the s4 shipping with the latest I'd hope htc will push an update ASAP.
