I want to flash custom rom, but.... - HTC Incredible S

I had to return my phone because I couldn't connect to my network (even from nanoback restore).
What happen was few days ago I got my incredible S on a bell network for 3 years. The plan is Fab10 (1gb/200minutes/free calling for 10 numbers).
I started to do some research on how to flash to custom roms. I first rooted my phone, than found a ROM Android Revolution HD™ 1.1.7. Did a nanoback up than I finally flashed it (without the radio update). I couldn't connect to my bell network. After that I flashed the radio and still had the same issue. Google didn't show up anything, so I to restoed my nanobackup. Now the network is running, until I plugged in my USB. Network disconnected and only had WiFi. I unplugged and it still wouldn't connect, rebooted and same issue again.
This phone is only 1 day old. I go to bell, tell them the networking isn't connecting and got a (NEW) incredible s. I'm afraid of flashing to a custom rom, because my network could be disconnected.
Can any of you help me to not run into that problem again?

If I remember correctly, to flash a radio update you need to have s-off for radio as well.

could that be the reason why i lost my phone/text/3g connections.
even with stock rom restore, the network was cutting in and out. Only started happening after I flashed the rom

reading from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867567
the stock rom contains some files that allow the 3g/mms/text etc to work. I'm on bell and not sure if they follow 850/1900mhz, compared to 2100mhz.

There should be no need to flash a new radio if your phone is android 2.3 + the only reason we were flashing radios was because a few months back our phones were shipped with 2.2 (froyo) . Most likely your phone was defective if they gave you a brand new phone (they are made in Taiwan after all).

I'm also on bell networks in Ontario I've never had a problem with connection using the current radio and your ROM

well if I flash again, I need a backup plan. Originally the guy said you have 30 days to return it.
I returned it once because it wasn't connecting to the network. Is it possible to return it again if I can't connect again?

Chances are you can if you s-off and root and flash you can always revert to stock by flashing a stock ROM

what s-off you recommend for 2.3.3 incredible s bell 3g network

HTC Dream losing 3G?

I'm wondering if anyone else ever came across this weird issue. I am on the Rogers network with a HTC Dream. I've tryed several ROMs and none make a difference. The issue is, I lose 3G connection and my SIM card gets corrupted. I have a LG GW620 and I used it for a long time and this never happened. What happens is I totally lose 3g capability and I can't get it on any other phone unless I get another SIM card activated. I've had this happen to me twice now and it ONLY happens when I used my HTC Dream for couple weeks it seems. Could this be due to that my phone is using roms or is my phone just mangled? I'm just thinking of smashing this phone with a hammer as it is useless to me if my 3G connection is gone.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
IIf you currently have radio 3.22.26.17, please find and download the 3.22.20.17 radio image and flash via fastboot 'fastboot flash radio-3.22.20.17.img'
The image is on bcrooks server.
Please note the imei-sv is 3 in 3.22.26.17 but 2 in 3.22.20.17, this means if you are a rogers/Fido customer with a rogers branded dream you will be flagged by rogers for not having the e911 rom.. and thus they will disable your data if you have not filled the wavier. To reactive a call to the call center is usually required (preferably on a phone other than the cell in question)
Note the radio has nothing to do with the e911 issue, as the bug was in android not the radio.. so if you have signed the wavier or are not a rogers customer feel free to use 3.22.20.17.. of if preferred downgrade to 2.x via fastboot
(its unknown if the lattest 2.x or the older 3.x provides better signal on the Rogers network .. but the newer 3.x has problems in every rom.. including the official one HTC/rogers forced on everyone, sad since the bug was just in the Java code of one file on the phone in /system.. nothing to do with the radio)
Alright just let me get this straight.
So they are flagging me because of my phone, or radio? I am a Rogers Customer, have been since 2004 I believe. How would I go about getting data to not dissapear on my phone again? I had just bought this phone used and rooted it and put on a custom OS. I'm not exactly sure which radio I have at the moment, but if i update to 3.22.20.17 would that fix the issue if I got rogers to re-activate my data?
What radio do you have now
I believe this one is on there.
Radio Image update 2.22.23.02
So if I update to Radio 3.22.26.17 via Fastboot and call the support line to re-activate my data or w.e that will work?
Not quite that simple your current rom wont work with the 3.x radio as is..
I recommend one of two things..
1) goto http://rogers.com/htcwaiver and sign it.. then call rogers saying you signed the waiver and want data back.. if it fails tell them that..
2) if this is a rogers branded dream and I assume it is unroot to the stock e911 patched rogers rom and start from scratch on android 1.5 .. this is not optimal and I highly recommend option 1.. and you still may need to call after to get data back http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Branded_EBI1_Dreams#Returning_to_Stock_Rogers
Huge low blow in Rogers case. Plus I have to call them cause they say my number does not exist when I put it in that Waiver. What a joke in my opinion.
Thanks for the information though. Much appreciated.

[Q] PLEASE HELP - my captivate's not a phone!!!

Hi everyone,
I recently (3 weeks or so) bought a Rogers Captivate (Canada) and flashed the cognition froyo rom b6 onto it. everything was great. however, As I was traveling to India soon - i wanted to unlock it. So, I flashed the 2.1 AT&T rom, and did the nv_data.bin process where it doesn't ask for a unlock code anymore. I tried my bell canada sim card and it seemed to work fine. The network lock for OFF too.
Now, when I came to India and put an indian sim card (bsnl), it says (phone not allowed MM#6) and the IMEI is 'unknown'. I flashed 2.1 AT&T again and I got network but as soon as I switched the sim card, same problem. No network, with a phone not allowed error. I tried the Axura rom and same problem. Now, I am back to AT&T 2.1 and can't for the life of me, get a sim card to work!!!!!
I NEED to fix this, as I am traveling across india for 3-4 months and not having a phone, is a major problem!!!!!
please help.
I have access to a mac/PC and odin.
Maybe becouse you have flash att rom into it. And is rogers one, did you do a nandroid backup or anything of that sort before you loaded it with att or did anything?
rogers
I did have a Nandroid backup but that didn't help at all.
I have done the one-click downloader, flashed to stock JF6, Master clear, and still not luck
any suggestions?
bump...............................
Lot of info on Google but not much answers on how to make it work.
Basically the indian provider is locking out North American devices based on the imei. Buy a disposable phone.

I'm not new to this...

I guess I'll get my flame retardant suit on here goes:
I can't seem to get data enabled on my device. I have trouble shot everything possible so I called sprint dreadfully, but since my phone is rooted and running a custom ROM they can't help till I re-vert. I have tried all ways of re verting and have simply failed everytime.
1. How can I revert to non rooted or how can I get the closest to stock so that I can try to enable data on this device?
2. If anyone has any idea why my data isn't working (I have tried profile updating as well as msl codes through sprint also simply enabling mobile networks) I'd be much happier
This is my father's device and I just to get the data flowing.
device info :
baseband version:2.42.02.10.29
ROM :Kush decks gingerbread
FIXED>>>Re Verted to a older Nan of DC and flashed RUU from HTC site officially unrooted.

[Q] after nv flash to stock rom no traffic while showing 3g

I after my simcard broke on me i resorted to pauls nv flash to stock rom to get the new simcard at the shop.
in the shop the card gave the 3g notice and i thought all was well.
went home and tried to root but failed with superoneclick and then tried trymhansens one that worked and i installed CM9 again.
i found out today because off using wifi at home that my sim shows that im using 3g or H but that im not getting any traffic i am able to make and recieve calls and sms.
so i nvflashed again and went back to the shop to ask if it was a provider side problem.
they told me its software related.
so here's my question what should i do now
nvflash the paul 10b or flash the latest dutch released rom that i downloaded from here.
or is there an other way that i can get it back to stock without the change of breaking it further.
i dont have the cash at the moment to get it fixed or by a new phone, so i am willing to use it as is now and just have internet at hotspots or at home but would like to fix it .
also flashing requires that i close down all other programs on my pc to avoid corruption ?
thanks in advance

[Q] Stuck 1x no data after Gingervolt/Broken Out 2

This was a new out of box phone on zv9. I rooted and wifi tethered my 4g (my only source of internet at home) but latency was high so I though I'd go back to my old decrap v1 froyo rom to see if that fixed my latency issues with this new phone (same make and model as my old one). I couldn't find any working links to the old froyo roms so begins the current problem..
I flashed gingervolt 2.0 and sim card would not activate after many attempts. I assumed this was because it's zv7 which I hadn't noticed.
So I flashed broken out 2.0 which says works with zv9. Unfortunately I didn't go back to my stock back up which I made before flashing gingervolt.
so basically, I went from stock zv9 to gingervolt and then straight to broken out 2.0.
My sim card activates on broken out 2.0 - at least I think - it's showing my phone number / prl version / network verizon in about phone, but also says mobile network state: disconnected. I have 2 bars but no 1x/3/4g symbol and no connectivity or calling ability.
I'm downloading the stock zv7 gb rom right now, but I'm guessing this won't fix it. Am I going to have to use LGNPST? And if so should I use zv8 if going to gingervolt?
I tried searching the forums, but there's 1000's of posts about 1x when the network went down and I'm on dial-up right now so I don't really have the ability to search through multiple threads.

broken out is a zv8 or zv9 rom. gingervolt is for zv7. dont flash gingervolt on zv8/zv9.
what android version does it say on your about phone menu? find out your version, wipe data in clockword recovery, then flash the correct rom.
have you tried rebooting or cycling airplane mode? that works for me sometimes.
your sim card slot or the card itself might be screwed. try shimming it to improve contacts between the pins and the chip.

Well, I went ahead and used LGNPST to flash stock unrooted ZV9 back on it and it's still doing the same thing..
It finds service, but says Mobile Network State: Disconnected in about phone.
WiFi is off, Data is turned on.. I've rebooted/airplaned and messed with the sim card a lot, but I don't think the sim is the problem since it's connecting to the verizon network just not to data.
I have 2 bars as I normally would have, just no 4g or 3g data connectivity.

Could this be the problem even though I've gone back to zv9 using LGNPST and it still has no data? I know that gingervolt wont work on my zv9 firmware due to improper radio, but now that I'm back on a zv9 rom the radio should be working (which it is just no data) perhaps it's an activation problem or perhaps when loading a zv7 rom on zv9 firmware something has been corrupted? but that should have been fixed with the firmware flash I just did.
I'm gonna try calling verizon and see if they can reactivate my sim card; maybe that is the issue.

Yep, that was the problem.
Apparently, at the same exact time I flashed broken out, verizon had decided to switch my data usage allowance - which deactivated my sim card.
I called and they reverted the data usage allowance, as I hadn't activated a phone on their subsidized pricing, thus I'm not bound to a new contract.
so the good news is I went ahead and used LGNPST to flash zv7 firmware and now I am gingervolted and still have my unlimited data.
good news and happy endings.
