So, I have been at the hospital all week long and my data is creeping near the old 3g 5GB unlimited limited data packaging price and I am wondering if I still need to be concerned about that old limit or can I rest at ease and know that they aren't enforcing the 5GB limit on 4g LTE
You talking about data cap?
If you have unlimited you should be ok.
Ive seen people hit way more than that and i think verizon only throttles the top 5% on heavy used cell towers or what not.

VZW is only throttling top 5% of 3g data users.

From what I have read on this forum and other places; Verizon doesn't actually have the ability to throttle 4g users yet?
It is truly amazing though, never in my 7 years with unlimited have I come even close. The first full month with my Bionic 4GB in less than a week
Amen...I never hit 2GB and am already over that in 2 weeks and I feel like I am usually on WiFi. I don't know what I will do if they ever take away my unlimited. I can't afford tiered lol

The hospitals' wifi creeps at 13kbps. No way I will use that! too spoiled now. FiOS at home and 4g on cell
I routinely go over 5GB/mo and never noticed any negative consequences. Thankfully, I was grandfathered in, or I would have had to go to Sprint.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.

I went from unlimited on AT&T to 4GB on VZW, and it's killing me to have to think twice before I click a link or download a file. On the plus side, at least I can get a signal now...

Just curious.

i just got my bionic and have had it for about week now and i have hit 2gb already, i dont even need my wifi, 4g is just that good.
i will let you know when i hit 10gb which will be before the end of the mouth for sure. if i get slower speeds.
but i am at 2.5gb on 4g and have kept the same d/l and u/l speeds and no slow downs
Damn still waiting 4g in my area

Sometimes, yes. It's obvious. But only on 3G. I've never seen a slow down on 4G. That only happens near the end of the month though, and then at the start of the next the throttle is off and it's back to full (well, for 3G) speed. I live on the outskirts of 4G so I have it when I'm away from home but then only 3G at home.
2GB tiered here,
Makes me sad. I'm at school all day tho, and its 3G at like 15kbps there.... so I use the 750kbps wifi there.... but at the downtown campus I live at, I am lured by the 25mbps 4G..... damn 2gb tier
I went well over 20GB (from root, not paid, tethering) on my Thunderbolt on 4G and I still hit way over 35Mbps regularly (in Los Angeles). So I'm pretty sure from experience that they don't throttle LTE.
I have been a VZW customer for over 5 years, never gone over on data. I am not too worried about it after this post. Since I was in a predicament (hospital) I expect they would understand, if they thought about limiting me.
That's the most data I have ever used, and for it to be in a matter of 1 week is even more of a "wow" factor. I understand they look at trends as well. Hopefully my trend hasn't increased in the other 3 weeks with LTE
I'm gonna have to say that the throttleing does kick in and only on 3g, which makes it even better when I'm in a 4g area, cause the difference is even bigger than normal

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait until September and use my wife's upgrade to get a Droid Maxx
How about this?
I have had a few calls to service, the issue is that the 4Ghotspot won't download data to my PC(s) even though I can obtain data using the phone's browser or on tether. If I wait long enough the data will work (something like 10-15 minutes). This does not happen every time but often. If they delete my account and add it again everything work great, but in a few hours it may be messed up again.
The support person offered to send me a Razr, I told him to make it a Maxx, but he was stuck on the idea that he only had a Razr. So one is coming tomorrow to see if this solve the problem.
I will be amazed if this fixes the problem, but I figure it is nice to see them offer a different phone to help with the issue.
Their Network team is working on the issue too. I think an overhead application on their end is where the problem is, I have used a local application that tests the path from my PC to any Internet IP address, it show each IP address, the hop time, and data lost rate in both directions. The my PC, phone and the network hardware is working just fine.

Why would I do something crazy like that? I know I haven't. I still love the phone, and my wife will concur that I only like technology for 3 months before I feel the urge to upgrade. I'm so happy that I have my unlimited data. 4g speeds and sometimes around 74GB for the month (I pay for the HotSpot) and never a drop in speed. People may complain about Verizon, but I challenge anyone to give me a truly better service than Verizon can. (The only thing that would cause me to leave Verizon at this point is taking away my grandfathered unlimited data plan)
Verizon customer service has gone down a bit, but still surpasses any others I've ever dealt with. Even when they had 3 outages (4g) in December, I made a friendly call and explained I was not happy with the fact my 4g HotSpot was proving useless for the month and a time I really needed it (out of town for Holidays). They gave me a $30 credit without skipping a beat.
T-Mobile has Unlimited 4g Service, which includes Tethering, for $30/month on a prepaid plan. That's the BEST plan/price for max data. But, the 4g speeds are only for the first 5gb, after that, it goes to 2g, which is basically Dial-Up speed. In other words, some major throttling going on there.
Oh, and to add something to go with the OP... eBay or Craigslist your phone(s). Never trade in. You will never get what the phone is worth on the trade in. My Droid 2 Global was worth $56 trade-in. I got $220 on eBay...
-Cybie
Cybies right. I've sold old ass phones on ebay. Sold the old first gen razor for 25$ and got 40$ for an old cingular sliding keyboard.

I've been on Verizon unlimited for years and I've had 4g for about 7 months. I never thought I was affected by throttling even though I knew they did it until recently this month. I have 3 days left in my cycle, I'm at about 11GB and sometimes webpages take for ever to load and even time out on me.
If i download a file, the speed seems the same, for example I downlaod a 100mb podcast each day and that takes about the same time as normal.

I tried out Ice cream sandwich yesterday. I thought it was pretty cool, but still had 1 too many bugs for my taste. I tried to do a restore from my backup, but it seems like my backup is messed up after I installed ICS. So, I have safestrap and I just did a standard format and installed the KIN3TX_v1.0 rom. Seemed to be ok, but now my data is worse than ever. I get the 4g icon, but only have
3g speeds using the speedtest.net app. I usually get a 30 to 40 dowload and now get a consistant 3. Half the time the data crashes part way through the test. What should I do to get this thing working again? Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I didn't have data for the first 4 hours I was up this morning thanks to Verizon. They need to give their customers a credit on their bill since we paid for the time of the outage. I don't care if the credit is only for a dollar. Some of us need our data at all times for professional reasons.

Back story: I pay a lot for ATT Uverse: 5 channels plus DVR, landline, and 18meg internet for 121 after taxes. I pay for 2 lines through Verizon my phone is the only smart phone at 141 after taxes. I called ATT dropped landline, got the uverse family package, and two phones for 114 a month. How about that? Crazy.
So now, I am getting a new phone from ATT, I still don't know what one to get.
And I want to get rid of my LG Rev.
Any thoughts on any of this?
My coworker just got the Skyrocket. Coming from a Dell Streak was a bit of a change, but he loves it so far.
im switching to at&t around april and im gonna get the sony xperia ion, but the best phone for at&t right now would have to be the skyrocket hd or the galaxy note

Hey Brian, just as an FYI, I called Sprint yesterday to complain about the lack of anything in Central Florida, and two things came up. First, I received a $15.00 credit, and second, they're saying that (this is obvious) they're working on LTE in the area. Taken with a grain of salt, they said they're anticipating a release this summer for LTE in our area. Fingers crossed.

I had a chat with Sprint a few days/maybe a week ago..And they said the issues i'm having are because of the tower being worked on 4th street behind AOK Tires..Well that's BS because I drive by that tower every day heading out to the office and it has NOT been touched.Old legacy cabinets still in place/no workers/no panels and s4Gru also shows no work being done on any towers currently in Apopka.

There is no offical LTE in Orlando and that they are doing full network upgrades... This requires them to screw with the towers for some time.
As for the comment about "I don't see any tower work"... Most of the tower work is done at the base. The only tower upgrade is when they install Network Vision (replace the copper up to the cell with fiber and replace the base modules). So even when they are doing a network vision, the only "visible" upgrade is when they are replacing the copper. http://newsroom.sprint.com/press_kits.cfm?presskit_id=19
Just be happy you can get LTE anywhere in an unofficial market... I am in Tallahassee and we still barely have 3g eventho we are on the LTE rollout list.

That's all fine and dandy that they're working on the upgrades now and that's why the speeds are slow. But for as long as I can remember, I've never had a good speed with Sprint. I'd hit a spot once in a while that would put me close or over 1mbps, but every other time, it's literally below .5mbps. It's ridiculous.

That is about standard for half max distance from the tower... The theoretical Rev. A high is based upon a high SNR (that was never really achievable at distance with copper).
really? before they started working on lte I always got fantastic speeds. When I got my OG Evo I pulled 2-3 mbps on 3g, and 5-20 on wimax. I really only get pissed when they are working on towers in my area, then my connection drops to .2-.5mbps, but I stay because after its done Im back to the good old 3g speeds, and 10-30 mbps on LTE. I love sprint, and most of all I love my unlimited data. I know youve heard it 1000 times, but hold on, its getting a lot better.

That is max burst (not sustainable). There is a lot to it, but one of the main things is degredation of the SNR (which is why they switched from copper to fiber). Also channel interference. Most users will experience between 500 - 1000 kbit sustained speeds. You are also limited by the reverse link when submitted requests.
All I got to say is if the reason my speeds are so bad is because they are working on towers in my area. Then it's been one hell of a process upgrading 1 single tower for over 3 years.

T-Mobile starts data throttling. I knew this carrier was to good to be true. This sounds like a breach of contract to me. Im in a contract and pay for unlimited data without throttling. I asked the sales rep before I left AT&T, and was assured and even have it in writing. Contract is no longer binding if they breech and continue to breech contract.
This is ridiculous.

Maybe they not making enough money as folks thought they was and being abused on the data is hurting them real bad maybe? T mobile needs a buyer badly they need a merger or something to help them with the cash to be able to do everything they want to do they came along way and did good but they can't keep going unless they get help.
Before you listen to he say she say read for yourself. Tmobile throttling will only affect P2P users and people using third party tethering to go beyond the tethering limit. The CEO of Tmobile already cleared up if you use 1TB for data browsing, netflix, hulu, and etc your safe.
1 TB of data? And how are they to tell or decide who is using a third party apk to tether beyond limit? Its a violation of privacy to go into you phone and see from where or how you use your data.

When you signed up for tmobile youe were guaranteed unlimited data on your phone only not unlimited tethering to other devices or downloading illegal torrents.
I don't download any torrents of any kind..... Don't know where you got that. And I only have 3 gigs of tether after that its shut off. So...... Where were you headed with that.....

They don't have to decide...... They know the limitations of hardware and how much it can down load. Also it's not what you have on your phone, it's how much data your using from their network. Which your using their network, so there is no violation of privacy.

So why are you complaining about throttling when it wont affect you
Cuz I still pull 50+ gigs a month. And its the principle of it. Advertise one thing then get a bunch of people to switch to T-Mobile then change the rules in the middle of the game.
And this didn't really start as a complaint. I started the thread to inform people. Share information to make others aware.
We gotcha........
T-mobile is just doing the something that Metro PCS did years ago. And just saying, hey for those who are abusing the network we will step in and throttle you down if you keep it up.
It won't effect people who aren't abusing the network. Only the people who are.
T-Mobile's thing is to give those people fare warning before they do throttle them down.
So if your using under 50GB a month you probably have nothing to worry about. But if you're a person who is using 300GB then you might be throttled down. Just for example.

T-Mobile CEO stated you can use 1 TB of data and you still wont be throttled. T-mobile is only throttling users who use 3rd party apps to bypass the monthly tethering limit I'm on unlimited everything so my tethering limit is 5gb . T-Mobile will also throttle u if your using there serivce for p2p/torrents most content is copyrighted and illegal to download anyway plus its heavy on uploading on tmobile network. If you dont do the two things i posted your safe from throttled.

3gb is all I get for free. Using the tether hack I get a lot more. But it's kinda like a car. When I bought it it only gets 24 mpg but after the modifications done it gets 27 mpg. Does that give the dealership right to charge me more or the gas station the right to charge me more. And no I'm smart enough to know you can read my history of post just glad you're smart enough to know how to do that. Now are you smart enough to know how to pull your finger out of your ass and move on past this. Since I've explained that this post was only to inform people of tmobiles future plans. Well you ought to be cuz that's in my post history too.
Boom he just got served lmao
They slowed me down at 100gb, no tethering at all
