Just curious if anyone has tried to trade in this phone at Verizon under their trade in program. Is it worth anything?

It's worth $66. That's a little depressing lol.

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait until September and use my wife's upgrade to get a Droid Maxx
How about this?
I have had a few calls to service, the issue is that the 4Ghotspot won't download data to my PC(s) even though I can obtain data using the phone's browser or on tether. If I wait long enough the data will work (something like 10-15 minutes). This does not happen every time but often. If they delete my account and add it again everything work great, but in a few hours it may be messed up again.
The support person offered to send me a Razr, I told him to make it a Maxx, but he was stuck on the idea that he only had a Razr. So one is coming tomorrow to see if this solve the problem.
I will be amazed if this fixes the problem, but I figure it is nice to see them offer a different phone to help with the issue.
Their Network team is working on the issue too. I think an overhead application on their end is where the problem is, I have used a local application that tests the path from my PC to any Internet IP address, it show each IP address, the hop time, and data lost rate in both directions. The my PC, phone and the network hardware is working just fine.

Why would I do something crazy like that? I know I haven't. I still love the phone, and my wife will concur that I only like technology for 3 months before I feel the urge to upgrade. I am getting itchy just thinking about my tv, **** now my laptop. The government is giving me a couple bucks. Hmmmm.

Jeez, see if they will throw in a kitchen sink too. LOL. They have the MAXX. I don't like Verizon sales. You need to do research, or they will stick you with crap. Heard them telling a customer, that no companies do unlimited data. And he was trying to push the Ipad on the guy.

I'm so happy that I have my unlimited data. 4g speeds and sometimes around 74GB for the month (I pay for the HotSpot) and never a drop in speed. People may complain about Verizon, but I challenge anyone to give me a truly better service than Verizon can. (The only thing that would cause me to leave Verizon at this point is taking away my grandfathered unlimited data plan)
Verizon customer service has gone down a bit, but still surpasses any others I've ever dealt with. Even when they had 3 outages (4g) in December, I made a friendly call and explained I was not happy with the fact my 4g HotSpot was proving useless for the month and a time I really needed it (out of town for Holidays). They gave me a $30 credit without skipping a beat.
T-Mobile has Unlimited 4g Service, which includes Tethering, for $30/month on a prepaid plan. That's the BEST plan/price for max data. But, the 4g speeds are only for the first 5gb, after that, it goes to 2g, which is basically Dial-Up speed. In other words, some major throttling going on there.
Oh, and to add something to go with the OP... eBay or Craigslist your phone(s). Never trade in. You will never get what the phone is worth on the trade in. My Droid 2 Global was worth $56 trade-in. I got $220 on eBay...
-Cybie
Cybies right. I've sold old ass phones on ebay. Sold the old first gen razor for 25$ and got 40$ for an old cingular sliding keyboard.

I've been on Verizon unlimited for years and I've had 4g for about 7 months. I never thought I was affected by throttling even though I knew they did it until recently this month. I have 3 days left in my cycle, I'm at about 11GB and sometimes webpages take for ever to load and even time out on me.
If i download a file, the speed seems the same, for example I downlaod a 100mb podcast each day and that takes about the same time as normal.

Top 5% of users based on data transfer usage. So all these people tethering for like 100gb a month, they'll get throttled.

Back story: I pay a lot for ATT Uverse: 5 channels plus DVR, landline, and 18meg internet for 121 after taxes. I pay for 2 lines through Verizon my phone is the only smart phone at 141 after taxes. I called ATT dropped landline, got the uverse family package, and two phones for 114 a month. How about that? Crazy.
So now, I am getting a new phone from ATT, I still don't know what one to get.
And I want to get rid of my LG Rev.
Any thoughts on any of this?
My coworker just got the Skyrocket. Coming from a Dell Streak was a bit of a change, but he loves it so far.
im switching to at&t around april and im gonna get the sony xperia ion, but the best phone for at&t right now would have to be the skyrocket hd or the galaxy note
Good luck on your switch to AT&T, my co-worker has them hits his data max every month.
You will want to make sure you turn off all your notifications and such, and airplane mode is your friend.

Well with 3 weeks to go before my warranty is up I contacted VZW about my non working alt key and my ****ty gps connections. They were more than happy to send me a CLNR and I was more than happy to recieve it. With the first replacement I made the mistake of activating and downloading all my apps before trying the physical keyboard (I would not make this mistake again). It was horrible. Maybe every 3rd or 4th letter I typed would register. Again I called and again they sent another CLNR.... this one was just as bad as the 1st. Called again and explained the issue, they promptly sent out a 3rd. Now the 3rd CLNR had a perfectly working keyboard. Happy with the keyboards performance I fired up the maps app to see about gps.... this it when it first rebooted. It then rebooted 8 more times in about 20 mins. So again I called VZW, and again I was very polite as I always try to be, and as soon as I described the newest issue she stopped me and informed me that she was going to send me to "tier 2" resolution and told me that they could do more for my situation including upgrading me early(not due till 03/13), she also thanked me for being "patient and understanding" noting that alot of customers she dwalt with were not. The "tier 2" rep also mentioned how polite I was and that usually they are being screamed at and called every name in the book. I got the felling that keeping my cool helped escalate me through the process quicker. In the end I was offered and excepted an early upgrade and chose the Galaxy Nexus due to it's unlocked and thoroughly supported dev community. I'm so appreciative of Hashcode and everyone else who supported the Droid3. Sadly tho my Droid3 will be retired to a box in my closet while my now almost 3 year old original Droid still gets used everyday as a wifi/gps device.

Yeah, I think it started in June or July.
I know it's expensive, but buying a new device outright and not taking the discounted contract price will allow you to keep your unlimited data. Your not changing anything/signing a new contract, just activating a new device.

My friend recently got a D4 in place of his oddly-broken D3. He told me he had put it in his pocket while moving his mom's stuff to her new house, he bent over and heard a *crack*...and sure enough, a massive crack diagonally across his phone.
He called it in, and Got a Refurbished D4, with his original Contract in-tact. Unlimited 4G... Lucky Son of a Gun.
I thought about doing that to my phone, but its rooted, lol. My contract is up in the exact same month/year as your's OP. Hopefully, they'll let me keep my Unlimited Data come upgrade time, or I may just be goin to a new carrier for a QWERTY Phone.

As long as you don't get a subsidized phone, you'll be able to keep your unlimited plan. As far as I know they're still allowing you to switch from 3g to 4g with it too.
I'm also saying goodbye to my D3, although it's working perfectly I felt that it was too slow for my needs. It's rather disappointing to see such good hardware wasted because of 512mb of ram. If it wasn't for that, we would have already at least an ICS leak with a great phone. I got a Note and it should arrive today or tomorrow. I'm afraid the community isn't going g to be as food as this, but let's see how it goes, after all we are all in xda
I have to say this was a great community to be part of. You guys remind me of M2 community, we had committed devs just like hash and jonpry who made our little phone incredible for its time, and still today is being updated, with a semi-functional JB build, even a semi functional camera and hw drivers.
I hope you guys get your JB, and to hash and all other devs who worked on the D3 success on your careers and lives, you guys are amazing!

Unroot then.
Sprint sent us a letter saying that my dad's phone had been sharing his connection to computers without their permission. We have been using our phones as our house internet for about 2 years, we got 4G last summer, we use the heck out of it. We have the family plan with unlimited text and data. His number hasn't tethered in a while, we have been using my brothers phone for the house internet while he's in boot camp. Why are they saying they will terminate our account because of my dad's number? The phone for the house internet has used A LOT of data, but that's the point of have UNLIMITED can they really do this? They said they will be monitoring our data usage for the next 10 days, isn't that invading privacy? Thanks
They can tell when your device is tethering. They will only monitor the amount of data being used. Not what you are viewing or downloading. They don't have the ability to actually see that. Why don't you consider home internet? Its cheaper than a hotspot or mobile broadband

We can't get it where we live it pisses us off because it would cost us $24,000 to run it from the middle of our road to us. That's why we use the hotspot, we arent paying for the hotspot, if we did pay for the $30 fee, do you think we could use as much as we want?

I'd think you would be able to, but I'd still drop Sprint an email to make sure with them and get it in writing in case they try to give you trouble later on.
Unlimited isn't truly unlimited, it's unlimited within reason. It's in their fine print. They also say they can terminate you without further notice for using too much data per month, especially if you roam.
You need to come up with a better solution. It's because of people like you that make the network slower than hell for the rest of us. Tethering here & there I have no problems with but people that use it for home internet is just so stupid. You can get a hotspot or sat internet if you can't get a wired connection.
Seriously guys? When did this sentiment begin? People have been sneaking tethering for years and that's one thing that is a preferable benefit to sprint and these phones. Since when can they tell we tether while rooted?

Comet1966, Consider that Sprint, just like your cable, water, gas, credit card company all have the ability to "profile" you. They know who you call, for how long, what shows you watch, how much water and gas you use, and where you shop. etc.
Sprint Terms Of Service prohibits tethering unless you pay for it. They were offering 5 gb with the unlimited for life plan for authorized tethering. As others have suggested either try to work with Sprint to get a tethering plan or stop tethering if you like your Sprint service. At least they put you on notice and just didn't disconnect you.
And I know exactly what you mean, my dad's and brother's houses are in the country and from time to time I have turned on the tethering - but not as my primary internet connection for a household every month.
"I didn't pay for something and now that I am abusing it Sprint wants me to stop or pay"
First, you know tethering is an extra fee, by bypassing it Sprint could have charged you for every bit of data used. More importantly in response to your "unlimited" claim, it is unlimited data used ON YOUR PHONE. In fact Sprint doesn't even offer an unlimited tethering plan, I believe the highest they go is 5GB. It sucks you live in a crappy part of town but you need to look into an actual solution.
There is NO WAY of me finding another solution, we CANNOT get cable internet at this point in time. It would cost us $24,000 to run it to us. Now of course all the cable companys get our hopes up by saying that they have it in our area, right up until we call to get it. Google intended for the tethering to be free in the beggining, but yes its really up to the carriers. It is the only thing that we know of that is actually usable and stable. No need to start pointing fingers, I was just figuring out why. And to say "it's because of people like us that the networks are slow" is the dumbest dank thing I've heard today, 1 of the five phones that are on our plan could be downloading a torrent at 2.5MBps right next to me, and I would still get 20MBps, I believe yes they throttle us otherwise one guy would be getting 100MBps and the other would be getting 1. Bit the limits of our radio's also do that.

Why not just pay for a Sprint MIFI card? Believe you get 5 GB a month? Is DSL available in your area or maybe even another wireless provider (at my dad's house, they have a company that has basically WIFI that uses a special receiver attached to a small dish antenna pointed towards a tower)?
And if you are running Torrent traffic over a Sprint connection, that definitely isn't standard "smart phone" traffic along with the amount of Internet traffic, is what Sprint is looking at when it comes to "abuse".

Yeah, we had something called planet connect it aimed at a tower, but it was highly unstable and their customer support sucks now.
Well your only option now is to find another solution because if you keep abusing Sprints network your account WILL be canceled. This is not something new and this is not the only thread like this. I admit I do tether but it's only to send an email or two every once in a while. You have clearly been abusing the system and now you've been put on notice. You will probably continue to do it then you will start another thread complaining that sprint canceled your service for no reason. I am not trying be be an a#$ but you've been a member of xda since 2011, you had to have seen other threads like this.

NO WAY at all huh. You can get a mifi card using the same network connection. You shouldn't be torrenting over hacked tether. I hope they cancel your account and they should. The bottom line it does affect other users & the network. Sprint's 3G is painful enough as it is, borderline useless in some areas. Stop being cheap and get a mifi card. If you actually paid for a capped connection, you would be a lot more careful with what you were using bandwidth for.

READ THROUGH YOUR CONTRACT. There are provisions regarding the use of tethering. Its not the CSR's job to know what you and a million other people signed, It is yours. Sprint does not offer unlimited tethering. It is a separate charge and even then it has a maximum limit. It has always been that way, don't forget tethering existed well before Android ever did. This isn't even an argument, no matter what way you twist this you're wrong.
Sad to say, I won't be a user of this section anymore, as I have made some changes to my mobile phone...
I have switched to T-Mobile, for a cheaper plan that offers me more with fast data that actually works. The last 3 days that I've been with T-Mobile have been the best I've ever had on a mobile phone since WiFi! Ha They even paid my ETF, so I really had nothing to lose.

Thanks Rydah for the help and advice in the past. We'll miss ya man
Thanks for all the work! I to would go T-Mo but they don't offer anything in my area. They are probably the best bang for the buck.
see ya around bud...good luck on tmo...catch ya on hangouts
I used to be on Sprint and when I moved to T-Mobile I was amazed that things loaded so fast. It's just so much easier to get things done. Sprint really needs to address their data speeds. What good is unlimited data when it comes in so slowly?
Hope to see you helping out in the T-Mobile forums now. :good:

I agree, I am loving T-Mobile, and still have an unlimited plan, including data. Usually, my Sprint data would be so slow I'd have to just not use my phone or have WiFi. I used to only have 1.5-2 gigs of data use, now I'm barely over a week on T-Mobile and have over 4 gigs of data used. Loving it!

I'd recommend it, my battery even lasts much longer now that I always have a strong connection.
Edit: they offer a 7 day trial period that's free. Try it, and if you switch, use me as a referral, it's a free $25 for me. Haha

Damn, good luck to you sir, see you around
T-Mobile is selling more and more towers to AT&T... My dad has T-Mobile and he went from having full coverage to not even making a phone call outside. I don't understand how you guys see an improved service through them.
I have to agree with the OP. Ive had sprint for 12 years and been through alot of ups and downs. Living in baltimore ive been lucky bc it seems everytime they updated the networks we were one of the 1st to see improvements. But working with 2 guys that have t-mobile really frustrates me. There able to stream videos and music from anywhere in the bldg where i on the other hand cant even download pics from text unless i walk outside. And dont even get me started on the poor service at my house. If it wasnt for the airrave i wouldnt even be able to use my phone at home. And every time i get a new phone it acts stupid for about a week until its fully synced with the airrave. Ive always dealt with sprint bc of how cheap they are but the 4 lines for $99 from t-mobile is calling my name. Luckily i buy all my phones off craigslist so i can just walk away from sprint

I haven't been on xda for awhile, sorry to have missed ya rydah. Best of luck to you
Good afternoon everyone. I have been looking at several posts in regards to what people live/hate and some issues people have been having.
My situation is that I am grandfathered into Verizon's unlimited data. I work at an emergency communications center that does not give employees WiFi. So I give myself and my brother access though the hotspot and use about 40-50gb a month. I'm currently using the DE Moto X 2013 which has just gotten beaten down over time.
What I'm looking to find out is (and from what I have seen there are no issues) that I can root the Nexus 6 to give myself hotspot without Verizon's verification. Also looking to see if it's worth the phone. I have seen several posts with connection issues, but others saying they have never had any problems. I know Google is looking to put out new phones in August roughly, but two things concern me. My current Moto X is horribly slowed down even after wiping/installing roms which makes me want to make a purchase soon. The other issue is that I know Verizon has a horrible track record with working with Google and I'm scared that even if Verizon will allow a new Nexus type phone on their network, it won't be for several months later.
I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.
generally, if you have questions, they get posted in the q&a/help section, not into general. people don't look there to help people or to answer questions. so I found your post here, in the wrong section, and just requested that a mod move your thread to the right section.

That was a mistake on my part, posted though my phone and thought I clicked the Q/A thread. Thanks for the move
No issues with my phone on VZW yet. I haven't rooted it, but I don't see why one couldn't seeing as it can be unlocked. I got my from Best Buy, swapped in my nano SIM and off I went.
I finally got around to rooting my Google Play purchased N6 so I could use my VZW unlimited on a hotspot. I rooted using the simple method in Wug's tools and then edited the build prop line and rooboted. Works perfectly on 5.1.1.
I bought the Verizon Nexus 6 at full price to keep unlimited data and came from the moto x 2013 just like you. I just unlocked the bootloader, rooted and added the line to the build prop file and everything works great. I use the hotspot at work and home and it is working just fine. I didn't know if I would like this large of a phone but I actually do like it. I don't use my nexus 9 near as much though.
If you like the phone, get the phone. You will lose unlimited data before too long anyway, they are going to get rid of the plans altogether...
Awesome, thanks for everyone's help. Ordered one and an looking forward to it!

Why do you say that?
Don't get me wrong, UDP is the only thing keeping me with vzw, so that would be my exit queue.
OP, I got the Google places 64gb version, flashed the vzw build, rooted, enabled hotspot.
I used their build so I could get the vzw app and the visual voicemail and the signal is superior to my old note 3.

Because VZW is talking about getting rid of them, and unlimited plans are going the way of the dodo across the board with all carriers... Even Sprint is talking about getting rid of them. You are not grandfathered in in the sense that most people use that term. Your contract for Unlimited expired. They are still giving it to you, but they are no longer contractually obligated to since the 2 year contract you signed with them, expired long ago... You are getting it now more as a courtesy, because they haven't bothered to boot you off, but its coming.
Unlimited made sense years ago when people didn't consume much bandwidth on phones. Now when people are pulling down 50GB a month, they aren't going to let that go on forever...

2 cups and a string had superior signal to my old note 3!
I found the note 4 to be a huge improvement, and the nexus 6 is in line with the note 4.

I had the Note 4 on Verizon for 6 months, my wife still has one as I havent found a "sucker" yet to swap for a Nexus 6.
After using the Note 4 daily for all these months and going to the Nexus 6 it was like the Wizard of Oz when it goes to color,
effortlessly fast, The Note 4 lollipop update is a complete disaster, My wife's phone is 100% stock and its constantly stuttering and freezing up.
its junk.

"Courtesy" is not on vzw vocabulary, there must be another reason. We are talking about vzw here, that company is so evil that the ceo breakfast includes a cup of baby blood.

Yeah, LOL.
Well, they just haven't bothered, is what it comes down to, but with even Spring throwing in the towel on Unlimited, these old plans won't last too much longer...

As good as their service is, i would gladly jump to the 30 bucks plan on Tmo if they remove my unlimited.
No more locked down bootloaders!

Had the same issue. And lucky me found a friend that was looking to trade wife's n6 for another phone. Traded my Note 4 for it and never been more happy to do so. Great phone. Root was a must which was denied on Vz Note 4.

The amount of people who still have an UDP are the minority. On top of that, the last time Verizon tried to make changes to the UDP people, they got a huge backlash publically and reversed their course of action:
http://www.fool.com/investing/gener...cides-unlimited-data-now-means-unlimited.aspx
I'm sure eventually Verizon will axe unlimited data, but by that time we will all be on Google Fi anyway .
