Ok, Since CM7/MIUI are running on YAFFS2 on a MTD block, could we get stock ROMs to do that? Such as KI2?
Yes, but it would require a lot of work with almost no benefit.

It would result in a benefit. YAFFS is a whole lot faster than RFS. Also smoother, compare MIUI/CM7 to stock Samsung ROMs... which one is better. MiUI and CM7!

I don't really think there are many Optimizers that are going to do much for Froyo. If you are on a custom rom the developers have pretty much pushed all the speed out of 2.2 as possible maybe you could flash back to stock then flash back to what ever rom you are using. For speed I would personally recommend firefly, or fastys.
check out darky's rom 10.2 i think it's pretty fast and not sluggish at all.
if you want less lag and a more responsive rom, then check out v6 supercharger for android. its right here in the themes and apps section. its a simple script you can run using script manager from the market.i think its your best bet. i'm running miui and it improved response very well.so try it.its free.so you have nothing to lose
Why cant Samsung and Motorola and LG use a recovery sytem tht is like HTC's, where you can flash any version of android without having to be near a computer and flash kernels, bootloader, or anything else. I find it good tht you can recover from a brick, but having to use the comptuer is a pain.

It is totally upto the company in this matter!
I guess they dont want ppl to mess up with their phone n stay on the stock rom that came built in!
Its not that hard to flash a rom on of phones either

I know that, but installing ROMs on an S-OFFed HTC device is way easier than it is on Sammy products

Yea. It is way easier. But way harder to recover a brick as you already mentioned. For this reason alone I love my captivates recovery configuration. I rarely need my pc to flash a new rom/modem/kernel. Only reason would be to change file systems or bootloaders or android os version(typically only if downgrading, but with the need for gb bootloaders its a little different going to gingerbread)

Hi All,
I looked all over for an answer to this. I'm running the stock leaked Verizon GB update and I was wondering if the ext3 format would apply or even be possible with the stock kernel. I'm extremely happy with the gb update and I'm completely dumbfounded as to why this isn't out yet? Skype works great and is the main reason I updated. Anyhow, thoughts about the ext3?
Cheers,
Rob

The stock kernels, unless it's a custom modded stock kernel, will not support the ext4 filesystem.

Cool, thanks for the answer!
I dont know if its me but I cant seem to get the quality search results on the app, that I can get online. I dont have a readily available computer, thats why I cant always search on one. Anyway......
I just flashed kk4. Am I overlooking an available kernel with voodoo sound/lagfix supported?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Samurai kernel will get you lagfix.
To get voodoo sound you'll have to buy the paid version.

Thank you very much. I was worried samuri was ext4, then I found an article saying GB is ext4, I was unaware. Also I couldn't remember if kernel version had to match build, but samuri is kk4 anyway.

Captivate Gingerbread runs on RFS. We convert to ext2 or ext4 with Voodoo/kernel.
Oh ok. Well maybe I missed something in the article then. It had said Gingerbread forward would be ext4. Either way, flashed samuri, things run great.

SGS II run on ext4. Maybe the official release it will run ext4, but I doubt it all the leaks are on RFS
Hello I am running 2.3.6 stock FW with cf root kernal and a few mods (crt off, music/video player still works on low battery, cache scrolling off) so I need to install lagfix? Is wad my understanding that there was no need for it since 2.3 but I'm not sure any help would be appreciated

I dont think you will need it any more
If you want it speed up u can, but Lagfix (ext4) I heard it consume battery more than rfs.
Do you know how much by?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Ext4 is way better than RFS(FAT16 with some tweaks). I don't use gb anymore, but i suggest u to ask in the kernel's thread. Maybe the kernel already has enabled the ext4 partition by himself
Good luck
