[Q] Disable voodoo lagfix - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone help me disable voodoo lagfix? I've been searching but can't find instructions on how to.
I'm currently on Serendipity 7 and want to try the leaked Gingerbread 2.3.4. I've read to disable Voodoo lagfix first.
I've checked in recovery and there are not settings to disable.
Any help is appreciated.
Also, does Voodoo need to be disabled when switching between roms? I've gone back and forth from Serendipity 6.4 and 7 to stock with no issues. Maybe i'm reading too much but just want to be sure.

I'm not running Serendipity so it might be different but, open your app drawer look for an app with lagfix control , open hit disable lagfix , then hit reboot.
As for disabling it flashing between roms ? That will be explained on the OPs installation page whether you have to or not .

That app is Voodoo Control, where u'll find Lagfix preferences, uncheck all and reboot.

Ok thanks,
Just to be sure under lagfix preferences uncheck Ext4 coversion and ext4/system and lagfix debug mode. Mine has ext4 conversion and ext4/sys is checked.
Then just reboot and it's disabled?

You don't need the app st all, in. your sdcard there will be a folder named voodoo, in that folder make a new file (or folder doesn't matter) and name it disable-lagfix and then reboot. That is all the app does.

Yep , only those 2 are suppose to be checked if u have it enabled. U can use the method suggested by studa or the voodoo control app.
P.S. that new sig of urs is freakin' awesome studa

[Q] Voodoo disable help!

ok...I've read and read and read, and tried numerous things, and I still can't seem to get voodoo disabled. I've tried numerous things, which follow:
-place "disable-lagfix" folder in /sdcard/voodoo
-place "disable-lagfix" folder in /voodoo
-place "disable- lagfix" folder in both above locations
-place "disable lagfix" folder in both above locations
-place "disable-lagfix" text file in both locations
none of these seem to be working. I'm not getting a longer boot time after reboot, the log in the voodoo folder indicates that it's still enabled, and my head is about to explode. Help please!!
And, please don't tell me to read. I've read the hell outta the forums, searched, read through the entire cognition thread, read the threads that come up when I searched for "disable voodoo"...in other words, I have read, and now it is time to ask questions since my problem still seems to exist.
thanks!
Are you actually using quotation marks? If so, don't. The folder should be disable-lagfix. Then reboot. No actual quotes. Hope this helps
Captivate
Cog 2.2
not using the quotes, just used them here to clarify what I had used for the file/folder names....
I keep trying....still nothing. Might try flashing a new rom just to see what happens. My phone allows the 3 button combo, so hopefully I can still restore if I f*** something up...
****edit***
so, I just deleted all traces of any disable-lagfix file/folder and rebooted. it took forever to boot up. I'm assuming it just re-enabled itself. I may have actually had things disabled this whole time and not noticed. Will try tomorrow to disable again and load up a rom. Hopefully this won't screw my phone up

Run a quadrant score usingthe free app. Tell me what your score is. I would not flash another Rom. You can flash stock using odin.
Captivate
Cog 2.2
totally forgot about quadrant being able to tell...
I'm pretty sure I've got a handle on things now. After deleting all traces of the "disable" folder, I got quadrant of 1400.
I just placed the "disable" folder back in voodoo and rebooted. This time it's taking a while to boot again, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be good. Quadrant score now yields 1008
looks like I got it figgered out. thanks for your help dude. mucho props. totally forgot about being able to use quadrant for seeing if lagfix was enabled.
I created a disable-lagfix folder in my voodoo folder so as to disable it. I then rebooted phone and the friggen thing wiped all my data and the whole phone needed to be resetup.
So make sure you backup beforehand!
On a side note. After removing the disable-lagfix folder it booted as per normal and doesnt seem to have re-enabled the lagfix.
Weird
Maybe you have a bug. Try flashing to stock.

Lagfix mess up?
Guys, I installed Voodoo lagfix but now my screen won't rotate when typing on the keyboard. And if I click the "auto rotate" button on the drop down, it puts keyboard in landscape mode and won't get out of it. Any help?

Lemme guess you installed a i9000 kernel? If so it has to be reoriented to work on the captivate.

Man, what kernel did you flash, and where did you find it?

[Q] VooDoo what?

What is the deal with voodoo?
Why would you want to disable a "fix"?
It sounds like "lagfix" would be something you'd not want to disable, but it seems to be something that most people disable.
Can anyone explain that one to me?
How much searching have you done? I'm pretty sure lagfix has been discussed a bunch of times.
... the lagfix is due to Samsung's proprietary RFS file system.
The "Voodoo Lagfix" changes the existing file structure and essentially makes the OS and I/O run smoother/faster.
People only disable it to be able to flash another ROM... although it is arguably easier to just flash back to stock and install the new ROM.
You may also want to disable the lagfix if you are looking to change the kernel or a theme. In normal use of the rom, no you would not want to disable

[q] About Voodoo...

Ok, i just installed Darkys 6.0.3 port, and it has a folder called voodoo in my SD Card, now im just wondering, how can i disable this or is it already disabled? also if i flash back to stock and i havent disabled this will it cause problems?? please help and Im sorry if i posted in teh wrong section??
Yes, this is the wrong section to post this, but anyway, I believe the 6.0.3 port already has voodoo disabled. To enable it, you need to delete the disable-voodoo folder.
If you were to odin one click back to stock, it wouldn't cause any problems even if voodoo was enabled because odin restores rfs.
If you were to flash back to stock some other way, it would cause problems if you didn't disable voodoo

its not exactly a folder its juts a file that says Disable-lagfix

To disable Vodoo find the file/folder named disable-vodoo in the vodoo folder and delete it then reboot
Please search before opening a new thread and make sure to post in the right section.

[Q] how to return to stock without using odin?

after this http://bitshare.com/files/s3s2tsj0/NyotaiKa_Chapter21.zip.html
i started to think that maybe i can just flash a stock rom using a zip file from CWM am i wrong or will it work?
if so, where can i get stock rom to do that
Download the zip from my signature.
ok, so:
1. download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790080
2.flash using CWM
3. downalod PER 10.2 and flash with CWM after this
miss something?
If you are running any lag fix make sure you disable
my old cog uses voodoo, created "disable lagfix" folder in voodoo folder

Then reboot. Prior to flashing it would not hurt to clear cache and davlik cache in clockwork
how do i triple check that the lagfix is off?
and also, how do i master clear from phone?

One way to check if voodoo is enabled, run a quadrant score. If it its around 1,000 or bellow it is disabled. 1200 + it is enabled. Also you probably can view it in recovery. Depending on the kernel there should be an option for lag fix. You want to confirm that you are using rfs not ext 4
You can do a factory reset. There its a numeric code for master clear, I think it is
*#*#7780#*#*

[Q] ext4 to rfs file formate

I was just wanted to make sure i did this the right way to change from ext4 to rfs file formate is just disable voodo lagfix and then flash cwm and thats it.Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong .
Yep, by disabling voodoo u'll go back to rfs but imo the cwm flash after that was unnecessary.
Thanks alot i thought that was right i wanted to make sure before I flashed a new rom I need to be on rfs for the rom I'm gonna flash.

I'm in the same boat, running Cog5v2 w/ CWM 4.0.4. How do I verify that the file system is now RFS?
edit:
Pulled up terminal and ran 'mount'. Filesystem is still EXT4. The 'disable-lagfix' trick did no good.

Yep, then checked mount in terminal. The Cognition kernel did not use Voodoo, so the 'disable-lagfix' is not going to get the job done, I think.
That is a beta kernel, from what I remember it had trouble converting back to rfs from ext4. You'll have to flash back to a "stock" firmware with either a 1 click or using a .pit along with the firmware .tar with Odin/heimdall to repartition your file system.
Yikes. Since I'm stuck on EXT4, will my TiBu data backups be any good once I'm up and running on RFS?
Doesn't matter, your backup is fine.
1. Another easy way is to download the "voodoo control app" from the market. It will let you toggle rfs / ext4 from there and reports on current file system.
If I am not mistaken, this portion of the app is free..........but it is worth buying if you do a lot of ext4 stuff.
If you are on a GB ROM from KH3 on, ext4 is kind of unecessary, since rfs makes no difference in "laggy-ness"
Cognition 5 isn't voodoo. I don't remember if you can change it on CWM. Check in CWM if there is an option to switch to rfs or disable lag fix, if not you need to use ODIN back to "stock". Doesn't matter wich leaked firmware you use.
+1
FOR COGNITION:
prbassplayer is correct
See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16664289&postcount=2818
You have to go back to stock.
Voodoo app won't work on Cognition 5's kernel. The paid app is for Voodoo sound implementation.

Absolutely agreed. see my post above.
But on GB ROMs voodoo app works great for ext4 etc. I have the paid app and it works all the time.

Why do you need an app for voodoo rfs/ext4 conversion?
All it does, therefor all you have to do, is make a file (or folder doesn't matter) in the voodoo folder of your sdcard named disable-lagfix then reboot.
To re-enable simply delete that file and reboot...

Well, I am lazy..... And first timers can be comfortable !
Also its in CWM anyways. I have paid for sound, so I have control over conversions on it. But as Studa said it isn't needed.
