This is what MS should have been doing with WM7 from the beginning. Apple announces iOS5 will go live Oct 12, 2011. Guess what? iOS5 will be available exactly that specific day. It won't be spread out over 2 or 3 weeks, or even over 2 friggin days. Every iPhone 4 owner *will* get the iOS5 update exactly on Oct 12, 2011. That is the difference between Apple's dominance and MS's efforts.

If Microsoft only had one device to update to it'd occur just the same, Microsoft decided to offer a bit more freedom and with that comes as much as a whopping three week wait for an update a number of users dont even know exists, how painful.

Not really. My Android gets the announced update on the announced day. The iPhone gets the announced update on the announced day. The WM7 gets the announced update on...umm...wait....let me rephrase. The WM7 doesn't get the announced update...umm...on the unannounced day or the announced day. In fact, the WM7 never gets an announced day. Something closer to "Fall" is when the WM7 can expect an update. And even then the update is pushed to 11:59:59 PM on the last day of Fall...lol....maybe...if intentional unforeseen events don't change it.

Well, would you prefer a dodgy update that borderline bricks your phone, or would you prefer a good update?
It's the same situation with Deus Ex: HR. I was glad that I had to wait for the game to be finished before they released it. Even the later patches were very minor and very small.
Think Fallout: Las Vegas.

I would prefer MS challenges themselves by setting a date and living up to it. I would prefer that if they do announce a so-called date...like Sep 27, 2001 for AT&T phones...they actually put the update out on that date. But, instead, WM7 users get all kinds of excuses about why the updates don't come or why they are delayed. There is nothing but excuses coming from MS and WM7 fanboys. Plus, those very same fanboys never say anything about people expecting the update the whole time prior to the update. They do, however, come out of the woodwork after the date of the update and bad-mouth anyone complaining the update never came by saying MS never announced that date or MS set it for a 2 or 3 week roll-out period.

I can see why you're disappointed. And I have to agree with you. El Goog works hard to make sure that the updates are out too

Didn't the first WP7 update borderline brick a load of phones

Yup... now running iOS5 on my iPhone 4 It was announced a couple weeks ago and it happened just exactly like they said. My Focus still doesn't have Mango. But AT&T told me the 16th or 17th would be the second round of updates. Hopefully mine will be among them that receive the update. doubt it, but a person can hope.

Damn! You're a pretty lady.

LOL, but yeah, they were right on the minute with the release today. The servers got pounded real hard though, but it's nice when things actually get released when promised.

I'm loving the drop-down notification bar. It's better implemented than the Android one. The weather and stock info are a welcome addition.

official facebook app?

Hey are they ever going to release an official facebook app for our phones from the website like they do with the iphone and blackberrys?
Interestingly, rumors started flying around the internet yesterday/today about Facebook possibly releasing an official app. I don't make it a habit to post new threads based on rumors, but you can read some info about this here:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/2...k-and-google-work-together-on-an-android-app/
http://news.google.com/news/more?pz=1&cf=all&ncl=dZCKUtSuPS9aQTMWoeUeRsnoXR0LM
If the rumors are true, we'll find out shortly.
yea, not supposed to be as "full featured" But i guess rumors are saying as soon as this week
I cant wait.
Well, lets examine the evidence here and see what we can devise:
-Facebook just opened up their mobile shop for TMO users after years of screwing us over.
-TMO has been talking rumors of an official facebook app to be launched alongside the sherpa release when the MT3g comes out.
-The MT3g comes out next week.
So I'd say odds are pretty good.

Mid august or a few more days really does not make a big difference. G1 users have been waiting for a good facebook app since we got our phones 9 months ago. its just hope that when it gets here, it'll deliver on what most of us are looking for.
Check this: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Android

Have you tried Babbler? The pay version is better, but this one works just fine.
Everything you need but inbox (which, apparently the official one won't support anyways).

well, now we know its coming for sure. all we gotta do is wait.
screens look slick although i had to zoom in.
widget looks cool too.
been using x.facebook.com and holding out for an official facebook app
I am really looking forward to trying this app. I dont even care if its a paid app. I was mega excited when I first tried Babbler and the same with Bloo. This app looks like it will work as expected with likes, replies and what not, I just hope they throw a few 'nice touches' into the app, and include things like photo uploads and tagging.
I must agree the widget does look kinda cool. I just hope it doesnt drain the battery like twidget.
Until then...
Has anyone else seen a problem with bringing up facebook comments through the email alerts if theyre sent to your phone? I heard somewhere that Garmin was making an Android app, but don't quote me on that
edit: also there is already turn-by-turn nav for the G1. google "telenav". engadget says it is pretty snappy. been around since february.
Garmin making a sat nav would be brilliant! Cannot find telenav on the UK market can someone confirm its there?

If there is indeed 2012, what would you do?

Hi all,
if there indeed is a 2012 event.. what would you do?
Do you think we will see something like this in our lifetime?
P/s i love the movie..
There will be indeed, according to Maya documents, but they talk about a consciousness change not about a disaster, which I believe in

Im following Nostradaumaus on this one. Because it makes sense.
Put it this way, right now i feel im going to try to survive. But probably when it comes to it im going to be s*** scared!
Let's see...to prepare...
1. Make a simple boat
2. Create a machine that will make urine into drinkable water with materials such as a jug, seaweed, some aquarium air lines, and a pump.
3. Inexplicably grow gills so I's can breathe underwater
4. Rescue a little girl with a map to Mt. Everest, the only place to find dry land.
5. Have a mediocre looking chick name me Ulysses
All within a budget of $235 Million---Oh...wait...that's Waterworld...
I have faith that nothing that bad will ever happen (remember Noah and the rainbow?)
the mayans dont even beleive anything is going to end, their is no justifiable reason showing why the world will end besides some mayans who sacrificed to gods who do not exist
Don't worry It's just a movie...a darn good one
OMG!! People do believe this!!!
When entering millennium many people said that the world will end, but that wasn't the case!! However i do believe that the world will come to an end, just like it begun.
another one to add to the list of hoaxes:

Well the Earth does finish like a 10,000 Year wobble and the sun aligns with the center of the milky way, maybe the planetary alignment will cause something catastrophic.
Whatever happened with Y2K?
I think 2012/12/21 will be a bigger scare then Y2K...
i see whole 401k's being spent and the like.
But thats just me.

Well, being an ex-Honor science student, I can PROMISE you this:
- The Planet has undergone ATLEAST 4 Ice Ages. It is estimated that the cycles happen every 102,500 years. on 2012, it is believe to start the beginning of the Ice Age. People believe that Global Warming is cause by us, but this is not so. Everything again, Everything in the Universe works in Cycles and Frecuencies.
- The Magnetic Field is weakening, and when it gets to weak, it is possible that they swap, if this occurs, then earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves, and all are unleashed, and not to a minor scale.
- All this leads to an Ice Age. It won't happen overnight, some losses will occur, but humanity will survive.

THe magnetic poles have swapped in the past but I doubt this would be catastrophic. It might be inconvenient though as all our compasses will point the wrong way.
Global warming ... yes the climate does go in cycles but most scientists believe we are pushing things further than the natural cycle. Paul_Days is in the 1% that thinks this is not so. That does not make him wrong - it turned out the Earth wasn't flat after all...even though most people though it probably was.
For now I'll side with the 99% of scientists.

The 2012 Theory Is False.

I just wanted to let everybody know that the 2012 theory is false. Whoever is worried about it I am hoping to enlighten you right now. Let me briefly explain. Back in 45 BC Julius Caesar created the leap year. Which the Mayan calendar did not account for. We have had so many leap years the date of today would actually August of 2013. Considering the Mayan Calendar ended December 21st, 2012. The world should have ended 7 months and about 15 days ago. So guys no need to worry I hope this brought some spirits up because I know a lot of people are worried about it. .
Well.....NOW I can sleep...
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!
just a heads up the Mayan calendar isn't based on calendar days, its based on celestial movements. There wasn't a modern calendar hence the creation of the Mayan calendar. May your dooms day be grand

Also what PulledOvr said. Mayan calendar is not based on the Gregorian calendar. So that date is still the one when the mayan calendar ends which is December 21st 2012 when converted to the gregorian calendar.

E3 2013
What?
Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3, is an annual trade fair for the computer and video games industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game publishers and accessory manufacturers to show off their upcoming games and game-related merchandise.
Unlike Gamescom, Penny Arcade Expo (a.k.a. PAX) and other video game trade fairs that are open to the public, E3 is an exclusive, industry-only event. Persons who apply to attend are required by the event's governing body (Entertainment Software Association) to verify that they have some professional connection to the electronic entertainment industry.
E3 is commonly held in late May or early June of each year at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) in Los Angeles, and was held there from June 7 to June 9 in 2011. In 2007, the convention was exceptionally held from July 11 to July 13 in Santa Monica, California.

I cannot wait for E3, so much stuff will be there! I mean, consoles are only updated around every 5 years, so when they are they'll be HUGE improvements! This then means that developers will have less boundaries and the games graphics + smoothness will go through the roof!
Even if your not a console gamer, a lot of games are first made for console then ported to PC.
I'm stoked!

"When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, in the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment. Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward"

Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, in the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment. Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward"

Yup, it's tomorrow. Kinda interesting that their event is the first in line of all other press-conferences

Not really.. MS usually goes first, Sony goes that night and Nintendo always goes the next Morning..
It puts the lotion on its skin!
Except for this time Nintendo doesn't even have a full-fledged press-conference
Nope, they are doing the Nintendo direct instead... so, it still makes sense for the order..

T-Mobile Video Calling Update

http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/issues-insights-blog/video-calling.htm
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 now have T-Mobile Video Calling available through simple software updates, while the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge updates will be available next week.

Hopefully this will also bring Samsung Pay, RCS and some of the other enhancements seen in later builds on Sprint and other carriers.
So this means next Sunday night 11:59PM pacific time
Actually the advanced messaging excites me more than the video calling does.

Just a speculation but I'm thinking since T-Mobile announced the advanced messaging features a couple months ago this update may only be that since the development and testing would of taken some time. I'm probably wrong but I kind of see the advanced messaging update coming and then if not on just before the 28th for the update Sprint received a few days ago to coincide with the Samsung Pay launch. Of course they may have bundled all this together but we wont know that till sometime next week.

I'm not sure what you're exactly trying to say, but in any event, Samsung Pay has already begun rollout, Advanced Messaging and Video Calling are standard on GS6E+ and Note5... The testing is done, we're getting it all.

I'm not saying we arnt gonna get all the features like advanced messaging or samsung pay and the UI changes I'm simply suggesting unless samsung bundled it all into one massive update we may only get the advanced messaging update next week and the one with samsung pay and all the other goodies either on or just before the 28th launch in the US. But since there is no proof that this update contains anything more then the messaging features we will just have to wait and see.
I guess I'll have to enable VoLTE in order to use this... I'll have to decide between features or battery life.

The info in the first link posted to the thread posted on the 3rd of last week says our phones will get it this week.
Does anyone know about when they release the updates is it early morning/afternoon/evening or is it sporadic and just have to keep checking? Hoping it comes tomorrow I'm excited to see if it has all the stuff sprint got a week ago.
Darn nothing today hoping for tomorrow!
I checked for a system update a few minutes ago and got this weird message.
