E3 2013
What?
Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3, is an annual trade fair for the computer and video games industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game publishers and accessory manufacturers to show off their upcoming games and game-related merchandise.
Unlike Gamescom, Penny Arcade Expo (a.k.a. PAX) and other video game trade fairs that are open to the public, E3 is an exclusive, industry-only event. Persons who apply to attend are required by the event's governing body (Entertainment Software Association) to verify that they have some professional connection to the electronic entertainment industry.
E3 is commonly held in late May or early June of each year at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) in Los Angeles, and was held there from June 7 to June 9 in 2011. In 2007, the convention was exceptionally held from July 11 to July 13 in Santa Monica, California.

I cannot wait for E3, so much stuff will be there! I mean, consoles are only updated around every 5 years, so when they are they'll be HUGE improvements! This then means that developers will have less boundaries and the games graphics + smoothness will go through the roof!
Even if your not a console gamer, a lot of games are first made for console then ported to PC.
I'm stoked!
Konami's Pre-E3 conference is in 5 and a half hours.
Guess they'll show actual Castlevania LoS 2 gameplay, announce PES14 and share some info upon MGS 5/GZ

Well, if you'll be watching it, for example, tomorrow first time and read nothing about unveils before that - you'll have pretty much the same feeling IMO. At least I did when I watched Sony's E3 press-conference in 2011

It's nice to important, but it's more important to be nice.
"When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, in the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment. Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward"
Yup, it's tomorrow. Kinda interesting that their event is the first in line of all other press-conferences

Not really.. MS usually goes first, Sony goes that night and Nintendo always goes the next Morning..
It puts the lotion on its skin!
Except for this time Nintendo doesn't even have a full-fledged press-conference
Nope, they are doing the Nintendo direct instead... so, it still makes sense for the order..

To have in mind: Three eclipses in a month
The world will witness a rare astronomical event- a series of triple eclipses starting July 2009. The fist in the series of triple eclipses will be a lunar eclipse on July 7 which will be followed by a solar eclipse on July 22 and then a lunar eclipse on August 6.
I hope i will wake up early to see it!!! lol....
I've been fortunate enough to be in the track of a total eclipse before (Aug 99 in Cornwall, England) and it's definitely one of those events that you remember for the rest of your life.
I hope our Asian friends have clear skies and the time to fully appreciate the changes in the environment as the eclipse progresses.
Roll on 20 Mar 2015.

Ahh!! i was far asleep as against i hoped. **** missed the event!!!
I've heard on the radio here in England that some people feel eclipses bring bad luck or ill health.
Would anybody sensible, in the 21st century, miss this incredible marvel of nature through fear or superstition?
Wow!
I´m amazaed about reading this.
Here in México is completly oposite, prehispanic cultures saw eclipses as a very special events that make a positive influence on live!
Apocalypto
If you saw that movie... they think that the eclipse is the way about one of the gods that maya's believe in, feel happy and satisffied with sacrifices... that horrible things ceased to the population...
Amazing isnt it?
And now we will wait for the align of the planets... maybe some magnetic chaos could happend, alerts has been talknig about here and there about that.

This is what MS should have been doing with WM7 from the beginning. Apple announces iOS5 will go live Oct 12, 2011. Guess what? iOS5 will be available exactly that specific day. It won't be spread out over 2 or 3 weeks, or even over 2 friggin days. Every iPhone 4 owner *will* get the iOS5 update exactly on Oct 12, 2011. That is the difference between Apple's dominance and MS's efforts.

If Microsoft only had one device to update to it'd occur just the same, Microsoft decided to offer a bit more freedom and with that comes as much as a whopping three week wait for an update a number of users dont even know exists, how painful.

Not really. My Android gets the announced update on the announced day. The iPhone gets the announced update on the announced day. The WM7 gets the announced update on...umm...wait....let me rephrase. The WM7 doesn't get the announced update...umm...on the unannounced day or the announced day. In fact, the WM7 never gets an announced day. Something closer to "Fall" is when the WM7 can expect an update. And even then the update is pushed to 11:59:59 PM on the last day of Fall...lol....maybe...if intentional unforeseen events don't change it.

Well, would you prefer a dodgy update that borderline bricks your phone, or would you prefer a good update?
It's the same situation with Deus Ex: HR. I was glad that I had to wait for the game to be finished before they released it. Even the later patches were very minor and very small.
Think Fallout: Las Vegas.

I would prefer MS challenges themselves by setting a date and living up to it. I would prefer that if they do announce a so-called date...like Sep 27, 2001 for AT&T phones...they actually put the update out on that date. But, instead, WM7 users get all kinds of excuses about why the updates don't come or why they are delayed. There is nothing but excuses coming from MS and WM7 fanboys. Plus, those very same fanboys never say anything about people expecting the update the whole time prior to the update. They do, however, come out of the woodwork after the date of the update and bad-mouth anyone complaining the update never came by saying MS never announced that date or MS set it for a 2 or 3 week roll-out period.
I can see why you're disappointed. And I have to agree with you. El Goog works hard to make sure that the updates are out too

Yup... now running iOS5 on my iPhone 4 It was announced a couple weeks ago and it happened just exactly like they said. My Focus still doesn't have Mango. But AT&T told me the 16th or 17th would be the second round of updates. Hopefully mine will be among them that receive the update. doubt it, but a person can hope.

It it was a biggie, i'd imagine anybody north of the Arctic Circle got a great show! It's certainly not so common south of that so to see a good display across most of North America is rare indeed.
There's a couple of great examples in Jaszek's Time-Lapse thread if you haven't seen them. Absolutely breathtaking stuff! Once my dream of moving to the Alaskan wilderness comes true i'll be seeing these regularly of course!

It's a big enough concern for NASA to park satellites in the Lagrangian point between us and the sun:
SOHO
When one of these is headed towards earth, satellites in orbit are often turned around to protect the more delicate instruments. The effect on the earths magnetosphere can be likened to it being hit by a huge boxing glove!
Funny enough, one of these CME's took out the power all along the US Eastern seaboard one year. 9 months later hospitals up and down country recorded a massive increase of mothers giving birth.

"Spaceport Sweden launches its first space tourism experience:
Northern Light Flights - an exclusive way to view the magical northern lights
Spaceport Sweden has collaborated with the ICEHOTEL, Kiruna Airport and Scandinavian Airlink to launch an exclusive space tourism experience that will allow clients to get an even closer look at the magical and mythical northern lights.
”Space tourism is no longer a dream but a new industry being developed here and now. At Spaceport Sweden our mission is to provide space related experiences for all; on the ground, in the air and in time to space and we are very excited to now launch our first product. The Northern Light Flights offers our customers an exclusive experience to get closer to and view this natural space phenomenon of the northern lights from a front row seat”, says Karin Nilsdotter, CEO at Spaceport Sweden.
The Northern Light Flight experience starts at ICEHOTEL with a short presentation about the northern lights and a transfer to Spaceport Sweden where an airplane with seats for nine passengers each with a window will take clients above the clouds. The flight will last approximately 1 hour.
The premier flight takes place on the 15th January 2012 and there will then be three more flights on the 5th, 12th and 19th of February. The flights can be booked via icehotel.com as of 19th of October 2011. There are three types of package deals to choose between: a standard, deluxe and a charter package deal that is bookable all days between 1st of January and 15th of March 2012.
The Kiruna region is situated within the aurora zone and has among the best prerequisites in the world to see the northern lights. There are several climate zones in the region that together with good weather conditions increase the chances of seeing the northern lights. The solar activity, which causes the northern lights, peaks every 11 years, so the aurora borealis tends to be more frequent and intense at these times. Additionally, the years following a peak see increased northern lights activity - this winter, we are now reaching the peak and the next two winters are expected to be very active and exciting. "
The price will be around 4000 NOK (norwegian kroner) which is about $700 (!)

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," in accordance with the Armistice, signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. [1]
The day was specifically dedicated by King George V on 7 November 1919 as a day of remembrance for members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. This was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.[2]
The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields". These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England’s overthrow.
But, by God’s providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James’s sake!
If you won’t give me one,
I’ll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn’orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
I hope we all had our 2 minutes silence at 11am, watched it on the TV here. Google has a nice little poppy too.
On the 11/11, we will remember them.

Remembrance Day isn't related in any way to Guy Fawkes. That particular commemoration was November 5th. Remembrance Day is the 11th, although the Sunday after is when people usually gather at memorials. This year the two coincide.

Always loved the Sopwith Camel
Oh the music, when a P51 (or a Spitfire) flies by overhead!
1. Veterans deserve a lot more than they currently receive (hopefully some of the veteran related amendments wind up passing, particularly the one related to their spouses).
2. I'm not here to troll, but telling me I'm not "allowed" like you are somehow above me definitely makes me want to.

Yes I am. My Nexus One has seen better days, even if Evervolv injected hopes in my device with 4.0.4 a couple months back.
Do you think we can expect shipping by the end of the week or am I dreaming? Please make it for friday!

According to here, google will be shipping the same day, which is on november 13th.
I want to get the phone badly but I am worried about battery life. I want at least 6 hrs of screen time.

It is most likely not going to go on sale on midnight the 13th. The best bet is 9AM PST because that is when Google started selling the Nexus 7 and is when the work-day for the Googlers in Cali starts up typically.

6 hours of screen time means nothing unless you want to just stare at a static screen for the 6 hours. But maybe you're just really into optical illusion apps, so I'm not judging.

Damn that means I have to wait till noon on Tuesday since I live on the east coast. At least I'm free from 11:30 to 12:45pm so I have about 45 minutes to get my order through. I think I'll have some time to spare
Google says sales will go up at 12:00 PST. That's 3:00AM if you're a New Yorker like me.

Where did you hear that from? I really hope you're right, since I'm also on the East Coast.
Sorry should have been clearer. Google didn't specifically say that, but it's the general consensus. Although an AndroidPolice article says that it might be midnight PST, but more likely early morning PST.
