Why does every body oohing and ahhing about this piece of junk? IT DOES NOT VIBRATE!!!!.... Let me repeat. IT DOES NOT VIBRATE!!!! So the only way for you to get call notification is to either wear the ear pieces all the time or turn on your Athena default ear shattering notification sound. Now, I understand that a lot of you think that no one will ever call you or the line of work that you're in will never ever require you to attend any meeting at work so the default loud Athena notification is not a problem. But think again!!!! On that rare occasion when the hooker you paid to go out on a date with you calls, you will find yourself looking like an IDIOT emitting that horrible stupid default call notification sound that came with the Athena. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS PIECE OF SH*T.
The only stereo BT headset that also vibrates up until now is the Jabra BT8010.

Manner would be spending a minute searching for more info (problems, etc...) about the item one is thinking of posting that have been reported time after time after time after time... up here before starting another thread tricking people into buying junks....

I'm with you Red_Toyol.
I bought this headset and the Jaba but took the Jaba back after a few days in favour of this one for two main reasons. First, the sound quality on the Sony-Ericsson is definitely better, both on Music and both ways on calls. Secondly, the wires for the earpieces act as the necklace so you wear it round your neck (and inside your shirt) and it only comes out when needed.
Now, since using it for some 4 months now, I can give you a couple of other pointers.
The DS970 has caller display so I can see who's calling before I answer. OK, it's number only (there's probebly a fix for names) but I'm good with that.
Also, I charge mine once every two weeks or so. That's as I use it only now and then for music but for phone calls all the time. However, I leave the BT on the Ameo ALL the time but switch off the headset when not using it. That's because, when the phone rings (and I only have 20seconds before switching to answer machine), I have time to power up the headset (about 5 secs including logon to Ameo) and answer. When call finished, I hang up and switch off.
If you do this, you get sooo much battery life for no convenience loss AND it means vibrate would be useless anyway.
Each to their own I suppose but I am so pleased with this bit of kit. IF you need vibrate, look elsewhere. If not, this is the best IMHO.
Oh, and as for the ringing, why would you use the default ringer anyway? I have my own ringtones for various purposes and when I get a call, my Ameo rings as if I didn't have a headset. The only difference is I can choose at that point which method to answer by.

DS970 indeed looks like quite an ideal BT headset.
Vibration is completely unnecessary for me also. Even if I have such a function, I won't use it. The reason is this. If I'm outdoor, I want normal ringtone to come through from the phone's speaker. If I'm in the meeting, I would just switch via profile into one of those "special ringtone". Special ringtone could be mosquitoe ringtone (ultrasonic frequency ringtone which I can hear but some others can't), sound of coughing, or even sound of a vibrating phone, etc. Something that sounds acceptable from etiqeutte standpoint. In addition, my profile would have set the ringing to go from soft to progressively loud. There is no need to actually vibrate.
I like the style of the phone where you can hide it in your shirt with only two wires hanging out. It is much better than hanging it on the ear, which looks really wierd in my own opinion.

Beware of fake HBH DS970 from ebay sellers.
I did a quick research on this, and noted that many have bought from Hong Kong sellers mainly, but some are out of US too.
If you have it very cheap, it's likely to be a fake.

Tritton - Another Option
Here is another option I came across while looking for a BT solution. The Tritton relies on the housing to clip on your pocket, shirt or coat but I have also used it with a lanyard when wearing a t-shirt. It also allows you the option of using any stereo headset with a 3.5 mm plug.
It is a very clean, mimimalist design (no blinking blue light) with an OLED display and Caller ID (number only) to conserve battery and relies on only 3 buttons for all the functions. So far it has worked very well with the Advantage and the range for both headset and stereo functions has been excellent with no static or popping at all. You can actually keep your device in your pocket, bag or briefcase without any degradation to audio quality. The only con is that there is not vibration feature.
I purchased mine at Tiger Direct for less than $100.

While trying to source for DS980, I came across DS220, which seems to be similar to DS980 except you're free to plug in your 3.5mm earphone of your choice if you wish.
Has anyone used this before? If so, how is the sound quality?
Anyone knows if there are other differences between DS980 and DS220?

bizarre this thread should appear as i bought some of these this very day for 40 quid from Cex, though they are brand new and CERTAINLY not fake. certainly if they are available for twenty quid il be gutted!! they seem to work fine. sound quality is great and i dont feel like a **** wearing them. all good then. the only thing i havent figured is whether i can get it to automatically open up media player when i press play. i also cant get it to work with my n95 - after pairing it just says 'unable to connect'. stupid n95.

my main gripe with the sony units is that they have their own propriety charger connection, a kinda bastardised Sony phone charger.
IMHO the tritton unit is much better, recently upgraded to one from a hbh-ds970

i guess it all depends on each other's preferences. some like the headset to vibrate, some like it hanging via neckstrap, etc.

it's an r35 itech unit. i use the white one and i like it for the following:
- no need to hang it in your ear all the time
- minimalistic and you can hide it in your shirt collar...or clip it
- has a built in buzzer that i can hear even when outdoors. when a call comes there are 2 beeps that go off. they won't stop until i answer or the caller hangs up
- my x7500 is either in my laptop bag, the diaper bag or in a backpack. so this saves me the trouble of carrying it all the time
- during meetings, i can disable the buzzer and change the notification to rapid light mode. basically, i leave it on the table so when a call comes through the normal flashing light turns to 2 rapid flashes
- i can change the single earphone to dual for a2dp stereo use. the headset also allows me to skip to the next track or go back to the previous, etc
- and i can plug my nifty bose noise cancelers on it as well

Sadly, despite the immense processing power of today's phones, they are slower than the cell phones 10 years ago. Why? Fine, we're doing a lot more with them, but still, if i can put linux on my P400 and surf the net and play 3d games and even change the screen orientation within less than a quarter second... then why can't my phone do that... and maybe even do it better?
Is it too much to ask to have a zippy menu interface and nearly instant screen orientation changes?

How will this help when the phone is in your pocket and it either hears nothing so rings very quietly, or hears a thunderstorm of noise from the keys and change it is rattling around with?

My,,, haven't we grown impatient over the years. I can remember when a dial up modem and a 9600 connection were killer.

I give up - how the hell do you voice dial from supplied headphones?!!

I've just defected from Iphone 3gs - I got the Mrs an SGSII back in July and she it has become a permanent fixture to her left hand.
Anyway, as I'm sure a lot of you know, with the 3GS all you had to do was hold the call button down on the headphone cord, wait for the tone then say the name of the person you want to call and off we go.
I cannot for the life of me replicate this behaviour with voice talk on the Note and it's driving me nutz as I used that facility a lot when listening to music out and about. All the searches I've done seem to come back with stuff about blue tooth headsets.
Help!! (please)
Incidentally the Note headphones seem to be a step up from SGSIIs quality wise.

Touchless Control Accuracy While Driving

I'm currently using a Nexus 5 and I find the voice dictation terrible when I'm in the freeway with wind noise is the background (windows closed). It stops listening half way through sentences or even after the first word sometimes. Its happened multiple times where I give up because it absolutely can't translate what I'm saying or just stops working halfway through the sentence.
Is the new Moto X any better at blocking out ambient noises since it has more microphones? Anyone with any experience with both of these phones for a comparison?

I tried it couples times on my girl's Moto X while I was driving with the radio music on to ask what's the song on radio or navigation
it works pretty decent that it recognize what it has to do without lowering down the volume on the radio
the phone were sitting in cup holders(passenger side, I put mine on the driver's side)
I don't remember if the windows were opened though
the voice recognition of voice input comes from google itself, I dont know how much it would affect compared to the simple function

Well the Moto X is way better thah nexus 5. The moto x has the noise cancelling tech and it works pretty well. U will surely find an improvement in recognition.

If you activate it then it's very accurate but if you use the one where it announces texts or calls, it struggles for me.

I turned off the Moto Voice and went with just OK Google, and the performance is so much better. All you lose us the ability to speak to your phone while it's off (which barely worked 50% of the time) and the pointless voice commands like "check my Verizon bill".

anyone able to fully test the turbo and moto voice in a car environment please? maybe with windows open also.
i would like to confirm if the turbo can handle all the touchless functions while the car has the windows open.
On the note3, it is unable to differentiate voice from car engine/wind noise and thus continues to listen until it times out and thus recognises nothing useful at all., totally useless in the car.
Im hoping the turbo mics are able to block out the wind and engine noise and such.
if it all works, im hoping to root the phone and add custom commands so nearly everything can be performed without touching the phone.

I'll give moto voice a few stress tests. I'll post back with results.

For me.. Moto voice has a tendency to pick up road sound....I'll be done talking and it'll keep listening..Microphone seems uber sensitive..

nice thanks. its one of the main reasons to moving over to a turbo from a note3, for me anyways.

Really? cos thats what my note3 in doing now, makes the google now voice service useless unless your in a car that is silent.
So, Is this with the windows down? so it cant separate wind noise or car engine noise?

Windows up or down.. doesn't make a difference..

I'll report some better findings. I use Moto voice in my car all the time for placing phone calls and short text messages. I also use the voice recognition of Swype for longer texts/email replies.
Generally I'm in a Mazda 3 which is a bit quieter than the cargo van i also drive. In the car with the windows up, it always recognizes the wake up phrase and as long as there isn't a commercial vehicle next to me, it also recognizes my commands. When Moto voice doesn't recognize the commands, it punts the voice data over to Google Now which can usually finish the job. In the cargo van, i usually have to loudly speak the wake up phrase, and it almost always needs Google Now to finish the task.
I find the voice controls and recognition much better than on S4/5 and can easily use it without worry or frustration in a car.

Got my turbo on Sunday. I picked it over a note 4 because of the touch less control. After spending a few days with it and constantly trying to use the touch less feature. I must say it sucks. Its pretty good at picking up the wake line. But after that its a hit or miss. I have to turn off my radio every time when I have to use touch less because it won't stop listen with the ratio running. Overall I don't think the touch less control is ready for prime. I'm at the verge of turning this feature off completely.

I wouldn't expect it to work with the radio on, it is listening for human voice after all. Once you unlock it, any words (yours, your passenger, or the radio) start to get analyzed. It does ignore music without lyrics and auto noise.

I've had really good experiences with the voice. Of course it will pick up the radio. It's kind of silly to think it could pick out your voice from all kinds of ambient noise. I usually just kill/mute the radio while I use the voice. It's only for a few seconds anyways.
If there is a lot of road noise or there is a strong crosswind that I can hear in the cabin of the car, Moto Voice will tell me it's a little noisy and I will need to speak up. But as long as I speak a little louder and clearer, it works really well. I just need to get another car dock that fits the Turbo. My old Moto X dock is too small.

i do know the the tubro wouldnt have the ability to isolate different voices so definitely would lower/ mute the radio.

If voice control is something you REALLY want, I can say that my Moto 360 lets me voice control my Turbo while in my Mazda Miata, with the top down, at 75 mph.
