Anyone else have there phone just shut off? Appears it is a known issue now with Verizon. I have this happen several times a week. Go to use my phone an it is powered off.

Mine has rebooted a few times but I think I was running stock when it happened lol

I had the issue too. On stock, called Verizon had me do a hard reset haven't had the issue since.

Mine did it a few times, the "tech support" at Verizon said it is a "common" problem and there is no definite solution. Mine has done it even after the Hard Reset that they recommend you do.
Iv had this issue too but i think mine was more with the phone running hot and shut its self down.
I've had random reboots before ... it shut off without a reboot for the first time this morning (while on the charger) didn't think anything of it until I read this.

Had the problem with stock, decrapped, and re-homed right now its not that big of a deal but if it starts to happen more often then I will wipe the phone and put it back to stock then maybe toss it on ebay. Verizon suggested the same thing LOL.
They suggested I use one of the upgrades from my other line to replace this phone. Of course she also stated that 4G was in my area then transferred me to a tech who promptly stated that no I am in a 3g only area.
Never had this issue on the revo but I know it had been happening with the thunderbolt...I have never had this issue before with Verizon I wonder our maybe someone can confirm it is a Sim card issue? Nothing else I have every had used a Sim card

Have this problem very rarely, but each tone I do its related to a heavy workload or intensive app(s) issue and a CPU issue. I use setcpu to closely monitor and throttle it for battery, and it usually happens if it is doing a lot whole at either the highest speed, 1024, and the lowest, 245 mhz. Very rarely happens though.

I had major problems with reboots when i had watchdog installed (2 to 3 times a day) uninstalled and now it may reboot once or twice a week.

happened to me twice while in Austin for the BBQ.
Once during the drive there while using GPS, and once while using Wifi-Tether for about an hour on the charger.
Both times the device was on the charger.
I think I've had this issue to some extent or another with every Verizon phone I've owned. I think Verizon actually pays someone to sit in a cubicle and send remote shutdown commands to random phones as part of their "Encouraging Frequent and Unnecessary Upgrades Program."

Hehe. I'd have to agree with jamRwoo. This is my first smartphone with Verizon but thinking back, every phone I've had with Verizon for six years now, has done this. But, the other common trait is they've all been LG as well. Hmm... ;-)

Interesting
You're right, all my Verizon phones have done this. Except a ****ty iPhone I was using for a month.

happens to me on a regular basis, probably once a week. If i use setcpu or any other CPU throttling it happens more often. very annoying, since I use my phone as an alarm and I oversleep wakeup to find my phone is completely shut off.
Mine reboots itself every once and again, not in a while *knocks on wood* when I first rooted it, it would loop every morning when I first went to use it until I pulled the battery...

My first full day at work today and my bionic kept dropping 3g service all day.
I came from the thunderbolt and never had that issue.
I hope this was just a fluke.
I've also had 3 calls go straight to Voice mail at home. My phone never rang.
I hope this isn't a habit. I've already sold my bolt.
Anyone have these issues?
If I have to take it back, I'm not sure what phone to go to.
I picked it up last Friday. Got a little time left.

I've read a few are having 3G connectivity issues. Why not try another Bionic and see if it solves your issue? If not I would move to different phone then
Sorry I posted in the wrong section.

Problem is, what phone to switch too if this one doesn't work out.

Wait a month and see what the HTC Vigor has in store. Droid HD might be on the horizon in time for the holiday season for big red? Or wait longer (who knows how long maybe even next year) for the Prime. Or wait till spring 2012 they'll be even faster phones out. round and round you go
Try disabling LTE. I had this issue, until I disabled LTE. What I am basically seeing, is that LTE is coming to my area, and something is getting picked up.
Or it is just 3G being a problem.
Settings -> Wireless & network settings -> Mobile networks -> Network Mode -> CDMA Only.
I had it set that way when it happened. I actually switched it back to see what would happen.
I'll see what happens tomorrow. I hope it was just a network issue for the day.
I can't be turning the phone on and off all day just to get 3g.

Also, try a wipe before you do end up returning it. That resolved the same type of issue I had on my DX1.
Well it's happening again today. 3g drops and then I have to restart my phone.
How do you do a wipe?
I've already did a battery pull.
I switched to 3G only. Still drops.
Any ideas?

I havnt lost 3g or 4g what i think you might be talking about is: 3g is dropping when the bionic is actually on a call. So no internet when your making a call. what Ive also noticed is that if I'm in a 4g area I will get a 4g connection when im on a call, But it goes in and out. I suspect on the update that comes out or a leak it will be fixed. I'm sure it will be fixed quick being its a major issue/problem. If you think back I bet you just got off a call when you noticed the 3g has dropped. I was on a call for a couple hours last night and my 3g wasnt coming back so i did a reboot and she came back. Small little issue that im sure will be fixed soon. Thats the only problem ive had with the phone, The Bionic is 5o times better the the Tbolt and thanx the cell gods im away from HTC Sense.
No, I wasn't on a call. I just turned it on and there was no 3G. Woke it from a sleep, not totally off.
Yesterday it happened 4 times.
Only once since 5AM today.
Maybe it's getting better.
Lol

Which battery saver mode are you in? I've had some issues with anything but "performance" mode that might or might not be directly correlated to my mobile connectivity issues. Check and see
I've been on performance since I got the phone.
Only one drop so far today.
I hope it continues to get better.

Correction - My friend just told me that Verizon does not have date on a call. Two things though, I could have sworn that I had data on a call with my Tbolt. Also If ur in a 4g area I noticed that you will get data its just will go off and on.
The thunderbolt is capable of simultaneous voice and data, even on 3G, but the bionic is not.

I am also having this problem. If Motorola still used vanilla android this wouldn't be an issue. I hate when manufacturers feel it necessary to fix something that isn't broke. I am sad to see how many people are experiencing this problem because if it was isolated to my phone and a few others then a warranty replacement would do the trick. I now feel like I wasted 380 on phone and accessories. I placed a call to Verizon tech support and their as clueless as usual. I hope an update is released soon that fixes this issue (or a custom rom). I remain hopeful that we start seeing good things on our Motorola devices now that google owns moto.
NOTE: I wish people would start reading through existing threads before starting new ones. I started a thread to this effect back on day 3. Several others have started threads to this effect as well. I think there are now 4 or 5 on this very same subject.

So, it seems my Bionic has serious issues connecting to LTE. When I first got it, I got 4G all the time, without issue. Then after about a week, it started only connecting to 3G even though I had LTE enabled and I know it is in my area. Around the same time I started having battery issues where it would drain in about half a day when mostly idle. At this point I had done very little to the phone, hadn't rooted, and only installed a handful of apps. Well, when unleashed 1.3 came out, I decided to root and flash that to see if it would fix my issues. On first bootup, I only had 3G still, so I rebooted, and finally, I had 4G LTE back! Well, I stupidly decided to install LTE Switch and turn off 4G when I wasn't using it. The problem is, now when I turn LTE back on, it only connects to 3G again. Hasn't connected to 4G again since that first day when 1.3 was released. Rooting and calibrating my battery has fixed the battery issue for the most part, but I still feel like my battery doesn't last as long as it used to or as long as others on the forum claim. I am unsure if I got a lemon (I didn't buy on release day but a little less than a week after), especially because I have had ZERO random reboots or other problems. Phone runs buttery smooth except for the 3G only and subpar battery life... Any ideas? Anyone have the stock modems that I can flash to see if that fixes things?

Next time it happens, open your dialer, dial *#*#INFO#*#* and select phone info, scroll down, and click turn radio off, then click it again to turn it back on. It doesn't solve the problem, but might save you a reboot or reflash.
Careful what you mess with in that menu, I'm not sure what everything does.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.
When my revo turns on it talks and says loss of service and then seconds later the voice comes again and says Verizon wireless. As well as when I make a phone call. Before it goes through the voice says Verizon wireless and then begins to ring. Anyone else have this happening or know how to fix it? I'm not on any custom roms nor have I rooted this phone yet.
Mine did that for one whole day about 2 months ago then stopped. Don't know why though.

I have been through 2 phones already, this one here is the worst yet. Within the 1st hour of use it had rebooted 3 times. Now it seems to happen at random.. the phone can be sitting idle on the table and it will randomly reboot.
Anyone else having issues this bad?

Mine's done it about 3 or 4 times in the month I've owned it... perfectly acceptable and better than my previous Android device... or my iPhone before that as a matter of fact.
I have to wonder if it is due to some piece of software you have installed.
The new phone was received today. I had only added my gmail account to it and not restored anything on it yet. it was bone stock with the exception of the account. and it rebooted now 5 times in the last 1.5 hours. The last 2 times were done AFTER a factory reset
Mine reboots maybe once or twice a week, which while annoying, I can live with.

That bad no, but mine had the occasional reboot as well and that was completely stock. It did it after resetting the vivid. The next logical thing was to back off the stock bloatware / spyware one at a time and of course the stock app uninstall is very limited, but I did what I could and it still did it. I blamed Carrier IQ, which may, or may not be true, but I blame it anyway. <G>

What I have come down to is returning it to amazon. After speaking to a very polite and helpful rep he had state they have been getting lots of returns for locked bootloaders as the main reason but also random reboots. So he gave me the skyrocket for free i just have to make sure that upon delivery I hand the vivid to UPS. I really Hate to leave HTC but this is something I cannot deal with as I need a phone that works since it is tied to my business.
I've had mine for a couple weeks now and it has done it once. Freaked me out though. It was just sitting on the car seat when I happened to look over, it shut off briefly and went to the splash. I thought about returning it at that momnet... and still am. If It wasn't so new, I probably wouldn't care.
Mine did this while charging and went away with new battery. I called HTC and they sent one out.
Bad batch of phones?
There is another, older thread on this same issue. I have experienced reboots three times in this first month, but not in the past week or so. Based on your experience, and some other issues in other threads, I think there must have been a bad batch of phones. It's too bad a replacement did not make things better.
I used to have random reebots, but for the past couple weeks it hasn't happened. Not worried about it anymore.
I don't really get random reboots anymore but it freezes sometimes while trying to lock/unlock the phone. Just emailed HTC to see if my device is faulty or if its a known issue.

I can not say this will help you, but it helped me with the same problem, this is a fix I found on rootzwiki i believe, i forget the authors name but the fix is not mine and it is simple and gives me good connection for about 1-3 weeks before i have to do it again.
turn off your phone, pull battery, and sim card, replace battery and turn phone back on and let it boot up, turn phone off and replace sim card, turn phone backup, that is it. What I have read is that this refreshes your sim connection to Verizon, I have no idea if this is the case or not.
I did also find that when I activated an old phone to update some software in it and then tried to reactivate my Bionic the web site did not let me activate my sim card with the numbers it had on the card itself, so I called up Verizon and jumped through some hoops and they activated my sim card and had very good data connection after that for about a month. Just a reminder if you are rooted don't tell them that.
Hope this helps a bit.
My data still is not %100 but getting much closer when I pop the sim card in and out.
So what else is new.....
I am in Los Angeles, an area blanketed with 4G. I have a solid 4G connection at home 99.5% of the time. My first 4G phone was a Samsung Droid Charge and while I liked it I often found in my travels that I would have 0 connectivity and all my 3G friends would be surfing along just fine.
I thought it was my device and ended up going through 5 Charges and now Verizon has given me a Bionic and guess what, exact same performance (well, in terms of connectivity). I find it hard to believe that 6 phones by 2 manufacturers exhibit the same problem so concluded it had something to do with the geography of my travels and the associated towers and hand-offs.
I then read, and totally believe THIS
Thanks that worked great and you last posted good to know!!!!

Well I am on the. 901 update and on the same day I got a new sim card. And my connection was completely solid..... for two days. After that the drops were as bad as ever. Have had mine for close to two weeks. Data drops weren't a problem until a day or two in. Figured out that at least for me, it was my own doing. Some of you are probably the same, while others are something different.
Settings>Data & Battery Manager>Battery Mode>
From here you have several options. I had set mine up on custom one night, while half asleep, laying in the bed, playing with my new phone.
This morning it dawned on me, after thinking that it seemed a lot like Juice Defender acts when it takes a while to register data again. I went back in and changed it from a custom profile, to Performance Mode. Voila....
All day long and not single data drop.
Hope this helps some of you.
I have had 1, 5 second drop since updating to .901. I would urge anyone that is having serious data drop issues to try it. It is a signed update and is supported by Verizon and Motorola. They can't void your warranty or anything for updating to it.
How would go about. 901 do I gave to root anyway to push this to phone without root
