[Q] I9000 brick after KIES update - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to flash Froyo on my friend's SGS.
It had Eclair 2.1 update 1
Three button combination never worked.
So....I had problems with MTP application but eventually I managed to connect the phone with KIES.
KIES offered me the update and I followed the steps.
Once the update process began the screen of the phone turned absolutely green.
When the progress in KIES came to 13% it stopped and I plugged the phone out after an hour or so because nothing was happening.
Now the phone is bricked and what ever I do it only shows black screen with a small white phone and a PC and the orange warning triangle is in between.
So..I can't get into download mode, and that's exactly what KIES suggests so I have no idea what to do.
Please help!

Simple, call up samsung and get them to fix it for you. They have service centres all over the place. Those symbols means its a software brick, which in most cases is easily fixable.
Alternatively buy a jig from ebay, to force download mode, and then follow what Kies says, or use odin to flash the stock or custom rom.
PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BAR FIRST AS THIS HAS BEEN ASKED MANY TIMES

thanks!
sorry for posting the thread but I searched and I didn't find my exact case

Updated to Froyo and now stuck on boot

Hi guys, I just updated my galaxy s (australian model) to 2.2 via kies and now the phone won't boot past the very initial "Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung" screen. The phone originially had 3br enabled and when I plug it into the computer the battery charge screen comes up but the loader doesn't move. I can also get into download mode but I'm unsure of what to do next. Any help would be greately appreciated.
Cheers, Dan.
there was a topic for this matter already. Would like to get my phone to download mode aswell. I wonder if there is some other tricks that could make it happen.
I was fortunate enough to be able to flash back to my stock firmware using odin and then I tried to upgrade to froyo again and it worked this time! Must of gotten lucky.
Did you remember to remove your lagfix before upgrading the first time? That might of been the problem.
Was never running a lag-fix mate so I'm not sure why it failed to work the first time.
Happened to a fair few people. Only roots back appear to be:
a) Use the 3 button keypress to get into recovery and try a factory reset
b) Use the 3 button keypress to get into download mode, then use Odin (few threads about what to do with it)
c) Use your warranty
The 3 button combinations fail to work on some Galaxy S's including mine.
I had to take back to T-Mob UK today. Didn't have a problem, just told them that plugged into KIES and updated and now doesn't boot. My only problem now is that they have my Galaxy S for a few weeks and I have a ****e nokia loan phone!
i used the kies reg hack and worked just great for me now a happy 2.2 froyo user without any data or info lost at all JP1 to JP6. fooled kies into thinking the phone was from the nordic region. many thanks for the info from a member of another forum for this.

[Q] Can't boot without Charger/Usb

Hello
I had some trouble with a bricked SGS for about 3 weeks ago but got it on the run again with some flashing help.
Now i have this strange problem. If i turn it off or if it just goes black out, which it has begun to do after i flashed it, then it can't turn on, it just show the sun looking loading icon and then a empty battery icon and then turns off.
I can't load recovery mode with the combo, but i can make the download mode combo work.
But if i connect the phone with the charger/usb i recognize it and show that it charging up. Now it boot and shows the Galaxy I9000 model no. image.
Had tried flashing newer versions From XXJPO -> XXJPY -> XWJS3 and both with and without pre-partition and it still occur.
Now the question: Does any of you experienced people know this problem and can it be fixed somehow ?
Thank you in advance
First i would liik to charge phone for 24 hours and also check with another battery .

The battery don't seem to be defected. Once the phone is booted with a cable connected, it goes without problems. It just will not boot without a charging signal.
Bump - Still actual
Try using Block 2 Odin method here to go back first to Eclair and if that works test phone then upgrade to Froyo .

That happened to me a while back and I couldn't find a fix for it. Ended up doing the above and it resolved it.

i agree wiv the suggetions frnds given.galaxy is hard to brick.i did all sort of unusual things an even uptodate lol.don worri m8 jus flash to older stock and hard reset.check the connectivity pins,to b clean even the battri pins.somtimes its best u format ur eternal xd on pc an format.and giving another hard rest makes things better.i had once formated my int sd on pc and the phone had emptied, then i flashed and things worked fine.personally sticking to stock rom is better if u dont wan troubles, cause every custom rom has som drawback an needs a lil knownledge to tweak it up.check kies if ur on it,i recomend download the recovery driver in it.hope u get some help.cheeeerzzzz
Same here...
Hello everyone,
I too have the same issue as stated in the first post.
I even had issue sometimes that when boot up.
The USB notification icon wouldnt turn off even if i wasn't connected.
Some threads suggested that I clean the USB port, which i did and nothing changed, even if it looked a little bit dirty in there (Hard to say since it is really small).
Now the USB port looks just as new but same issue: I cant power on the unit witout having it connected with a power cord.
Also, when offline in download mode, Odin detect the unit and I can flash my device (Which I did yesterday by flashing UGJH2 re-partition and UGJL2 not re-partition) but when boot up, I can't make it to sync up with the computer. No sync possible (Also now I'm not rooted anymore).
The unit is under warranty but since it is unlocked with a tool that needed rooting to lock back, abviously I would need to be rooted again but to do it, I need to be able to sync it with my PC (No cant do here).
I have some engineer at work that offered me to check it out for me, they think it is related with the USB port, but I'm worried about the warranty seal. I found how to disasemble it but does anybody knows where it could be located on the I9000M from bell (Vibrant)? Does it have one?
Anybody have any better suggestion or a second opinion, please?
Its my 3rd Galaxy S from Bell and Samsung is now the last company I would think when buying a new mobile.
EDIT: Did the Block 2 Method and now it doesnt even want to boot at all (Did the JPY_JPY_JPY.tar part), now it shows the loading sign even faster and the battery doesnt even show it self at all.
Hello again people!
Got my friend engineers to open the phone and they didnt find anything that would cause my issue (Also no warranty label...).
Does anybody knows how to root a Galaxy S with Froyo without a PC?
I want to return my phone to Bell Canada under warranty but my phone is unlocked and I want to lock it back before sending it back and I need to be rooted to do so...
Thanks for your help!
I got the same problem here. Could someone tell me more on this. What is this Block 2 ODIN method?
this problem can be caused by water or sweat that got inside the case of your sgs.
the biggest hole in the case is micro-usb port) i think condensation accumulated there and locked some contacts.
try to disassemble the phone and carefully clean and dry it.
this helped me.

[Q] Froyo 2.2 to 2.2.1 upgrade serious failure

I purchased a Galaxy S I9000 November last year. I upgraded the firmware to Froyo 2.2 using Samsung Kies in December 2010 with no issues. I also have a lagfix loaded which solved all of my sluggish email issues.
So i connected to Kies today to look for a cpu monitor (high battery use issue) and Kies was kind enough to let me know that there was a firmware upgrade to 2.2.1. All went well through the download until the phone went to reboot. It will now only boot up to the white "S" screen and then stop. It will go no further. I have turned the phone off, removed the battery for a good 5 minutes and when i try to go into recovery (volume down/power/menu button simultaneously) the screen changes to the little green android man in the triangle, shoveling something (i think it is a pile of dead sgs phones) with the word "downloading" directly beneath the triangle and the words "Do not turn off target" below that. It will not change from this screen until i turn the phone off. I did not disable the lagfix app before doing the upgrade download and this may have been the cause of my problem. The phone cannot now connect to Kies.
I am hoping that there is an andriod wizard out there that can help me recover this phone. I would appreciate any help given.
Thanks.
Yes, the lagfix is most probably the reason for the flash failure. Most lagfixes change the filesystem from the standard samsung rfs. When you updated, the new standard samsung firmware is not able to work on the modified filesystem.
The yellow triangle with android with a shovel is a good sign, meaning your phone is not bricked - this is the download mode, which means the phone is waiting for a firmware.
The solution is flashing a new firmware with the program odin using a package which contains pda, modem & csc packages and selecting the repartition checkbox. You also need the 512.pit file. For how to perform such a flash please check the flashing guides in the sticky posts in the general section.
The bad news is that as far as i know this will reset your phone and you will lose all your settings and data. Any stuff on an external sd card should be fine though.
Good luck.

Thanks liraindon appreciate the information. I will have a read thru those sticky`s.
Can you recommend a good site to get odin?

You need to read and understand before doing anything at all .
As your first post proves .

Just wanted to thank you guys for all of your help and advise. I have managed to reprogram with Froyo 2.2.1 and it all seems to be working as it was.
This forum is awesome.

[Q] Forgot .pit file in Odin...now stuck

Well, I got a bit cocky after previously flashing a T-Mo Tab and didn't carefully (re) read the directions (I know...dumb..dumb...dumb).
Anyhoo, I rooted a factory AT&T Tab that was running Froyo, I verified the bootloader was not locked with the downloaded .apk..and began flashing BG stock (en route to Overcome) with only the PDA and Phone files selected....no .pit and not repartition checked.
The load went to about 90% then Odin "stopped unexpectedly". The device is currently stuck on the download screen showing the stuck progress bar. I am keeping it like this to drain the battery.
I have to confess that I actually did this same thing once before (on a unit that was returnable). I have only NOW determined that it is almost certainly the lack of the .pit that is causing this. I know from this previous experience that if I force the unit to power down...it will do nothing..no restore...no download. Therefore, I am keeping it in this state to drain the battery quicker.
I found another poster on the forum that has the ability to "un brick", but I am hoping that after the battery drains I can get to the download screen and Odin again.
Anyone have any thoughts? Am I likely to recover after the battery drains? Time will tell I guess...but I am anxious!
Thanks much...
p
Sorry...obviously I was flashing GB (GingerBread) stock.
TIA...p
If its in download mode doesn't ODIN recognise it? If so, just reflash with all the necessary files...
If you drain battery you might not get it working again. There have been people with problems like this....
Odin "sees" it as evidenced by yellow in COM port...but upon attempt to flash it fails to connect - load never starts.
Thanks for your reply anyway.
1st post, w00t!
Mine did something similar. After multiple attempts at getting Odin to connect, it finally did. I basically had to put it into download mode 5ish times. Pressed the 'reset' button in Odin a few times, unhooked it from the USB cable a few times.
I wish I could be more specific, but I don't remember the exact process, sorry . What I can tell you is that I was able to charge it over night by just leaving it plugged in and from what I could tell, it was powered off.
Best of luck mang!
Thanks for the note.
I wish I COULD put the device back into download mode.
Completed dead now....
Looking at un-bricking options (Samsung, private party, etc..)
PM sent...

[Q] Yellow Triangle Issues

I was using the instructions from here to remove the yellow triangle from my Note N7000, and found that other people have had similar issues to what happened with mine (on page 34 of thread). I flashed the 1.tar and get the complete black screen as the instructions state (step 6) ... but from step 7 onwards, I have no response at all from my phone. I have 2x Jigs, and have attempted to use both to get this fixed, but I am not able to get phone to reconnect to ODIN. People have reported the same issue, but to no response.
I had a Galaxy Note N7000 on Telstra (Australia) but unlocked from network, running CM9 4.0.3 and was trying to flash to 4.0.4 when I got the yellow triangle. Can't check any other the other stats at present as obviously, my phone is a brick. Anyone got any super secret squirrel tricks that will get my phone back so I don't need to take it back to Telstra to get them to fix it.
Further to the above, answering some questions already asked in original forum, battery had a charge, but when I attempt to connect to charger to confirm, get no battery charging symbol on screen, get nothing at all.
When connecting the phone to Odin 1.85, and 1.87 for Steps 7-9 and the Jig Bought from here as well as making one myself, still no joy.
Any assistance will be appreciated, or am I going to have to revert to the devil to get a repair due to a hardware fault?

At points 7-10 the screen will not work!
Follow the rest of instructions and your phone will be all set..
My Point was that even after steps 7-10, nothing happens. Follow them to the t, and don't get my screen back, still just have a brick.
No feedback from device, device won't connect with Odin at step 10 (No COM:XX comes up) ... and device doesn't even register with PC as being connected. Different USB Slots used everything tried, and I have scoured every post pertaining to a yellow triangle in XDA, still without having any joy in getting this fixed. :crying:
Further to the above, it was step 5 that lead to this result. From step 5 onwards, I haven't been able to use my Note. Which makes me a sad panda.
Just trying to find a way to fix it rather than sending it back to Telstra to try and get a warranty repair ... if I can.

Just to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong, got the stop watch on my G15 out, and timed everything to the T, making sure that the battery wasn't in for longer than expected etc, and this was after having the phone on charge since my last message. Still to no avail. Follow the prompts of taking battery out etc, boot into download mode, push volume up to accept the download mode, connect to PC with Odin Loaded, and then without Odin Loaded, and no response from PC, so Phone isn't responding to the Unbricking, or the computer isn't responding. This was tried in my 3 free USB ports tonight, with no luck.
