First, I would have posted this under the Victory Dev Section except I haven't enough posts yet. Yesterday when I got home from work my wife told me that her custom ringtone did not work. I checked her phone the default tone that she had was not checked nor were any of the other ringtones.
Today, I got a call and the same thing has happened to my phone, except I have custom ringtones for every one of my contacts and they were not applied to the contacts nor was my default ringtone. All the ringtones are still on my sd card.
Anyone else having this problem with KH3 or Victory 2.0?

so... I'm having a problem.
Every time I add new music to my Captivate, it screws up my ringtones. I'm using whoisit lite to manage them, but it is useless. even its backup get screwed up.
I found this thread where the dude has a similar problem, but mine does not go back to default. they all change to a random music. but no one there posted a solution.
so i'm asking it here: how do I fix this? which app do i have to download to make sure my ringtones won't change every time I add new tunes?
I've had this issue on stock ROMs before as well. It happens because the phone unmounts the sd cards when you put them in mass media mode, so it can't see your custom ringers anymore. I don't know why they get reset sometimes though and not others. Some ROMs did it to me, some didn't, and I don't have a good answer as to the rhyme or reason.
If you're rooted, you can copy your current ringers into system / media / audio / ringtones and they'll stay put (because they won't unmount anymore), but I don't have a great answer for you otherwise.
Does it do it with the stock ringtone picker as well, or just the one you downloaded?
Stock picker have this bug as well. which is why I downloaded whoislite in the first place.
I just downloaded Locale, which handles the contacts ringtones, but does not work with the alarms. but might solve at least 70% of the problem. doing some test right now.
I'm using Andromeda rom, BTW (not sure if its the current or not, tough)
So I found that the clock app is different, coming from Mosaic 9 and I like the style of it, although one of my problems is that I can't seem to make the alarm sound a song on my phone. Anyway to get a custom alarm in that im missing?
On a similarly related note, I installed a TW Clock or something (can't quite remember the name, looking for the link) but the option to use a custom alarm doesn't work if anyone knows whats going on, although the OP said everything works besides the note that says the time to alarm.
the error it gives me: App package com.sec.android.app.myfiles not found
okay im stupid, im assuming this is because I dont have My Files installed anymore or it doesnt come with Slim ICS, trying to restore the app with titanium backup... any other suggestions?
heres the exact one I DL'd: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558337
Thanks!
Agree, wondering how to get custom alarm sound to display in choices for this clock.
I figured it out. For some reason I couldn't get files to save from the phone but when hooking it up to my computer, I was able to copy files into the ringtones folder. The songs now show up as choices for the alarm ringtone.
kinda tedious, but hey, not that much work.... I *think* setting something as ur ringtone from poweramp should work too if i remember correctly then.
Thanks!
Hello,
perhaps someone has an idea and can help:
when i select an individual ringtone to one of my contacts it does not fit. If he is calling it always plays the standard/default ringtone from the settings.
I tried tonepicker and winamp but didn't help. I shows me the selected individual mp3 file in the contact setting, but doesn't play it when he is calling.....
Many thanks and regards
Rod
Look in your SD card for a folder called ringtones.if it doesn't exist create a folder called ringtones.now copy your mp3 tunes to that folder and they should appear when u select a ringtone under contact
many thanks for your replay...but the folder already exists and i can select the mp3 in and for the contact but, if he is calling me, the standard/default ringtone will be played :-(

this function works for me, all I can recommend is backup your important infomation. then reset the phone and see if the issue still exists.
its an extreme fix but its essentially the next level of "turn it off and on again"
hope this helps.
ok thanks a lot think i will try it as you said.....there is also a brand new version of my rom available since a couple of minutes so this is a good chance to reset everything an install it new
First try to change the default ringtone in settings/sound/ringtone.then return to contact and set the ringtone again.still not working try reboot and do it again...if this doesn't work.then a factory reset is necessary.
I tried again to set the ringtones to default. Select one mp3 again as an individual tone, restarted, set permissions, wiped in CWM.....but no success...
Because a new romversion, i wiped and formated everything again anyways and installed the new rom. But also with this action: the selected individual ringtone in the contact does not play when he is calling...
Think its rom related, and its not a big problem, i don't care.....think i will try an other ics perhaps next week, then i will report again whether its working with other rom on my S1
regards
Rod
Okay. My last suggestion.download a music player(eg. Poweramp or playerpro) and change the default ringtone and reboot, then try set contact ringtone again.
PS. Did u copy/paste your music mp3 files to the ringtone folder on your sd-card.
many many thanks for your efforts!
I tried it with poweramp and with tonepicker....yes i have it on the internal sd card in ringtones folder....a few minutes ago i tried it with an other contact again, because in the past i always used the same contact and phonenumber, so i thought perhaps the contact was corruped....but alos no success...
As i said no big thing for me, perhaps when i have time i will deinstall the stock contact app and the phone apk and change to an other app. Perhaps this give some changes . Many thanks again.
Soo here are some news .....yesterday i tried it with the new updated version of the installed ROM, but no success, even the same, can chose a different ringtone, but its not playing....(did all wipes and formats before flashing the update)
Today i installed an other based ROM complete new (also different Kernel), and after selection the individual ringtone? it works like it should.....!
On selecting a custom ringtone from the sd card, on the next reboot or so the ringtone changes to an Unknown ringtone . Not able to figure out why. I tried using different formats, smaller file size but after a while it reverts back to the unknown ringtone. Facing this issue after the update to lollipop.

Found a workaround for the ringtone issue. Seems that lollipop has trouble accessing the sd card at times during an incoming call so it reverts to the unknown ringtone. To solve this convert the ringtone to ogg format and place the ringtone file in the internal storage of phone at this location /system/media/audio/ringtones. Your phone needs to be rooted to be able write to internal storage. After placing the file restart the phone and you should be able to see the ringtone in the selection list.
The dialer is indeed slow ..I switched to another dialer from the market. As for the other issues (battery, sync etc) I suggest you perform a factory reset. The migration from kitkat to lollipop messed up many apps.
DId you update through OTA or manually from the captured updates from the forum?
i updated through OTA
i made a factory reset for two times
cleared wipe cache n partition in recovery more than 4 times
all cleared in every possible way
nothing changed
i used multi window and exdialer pro stil no home it shows sonetimes when v r in need or hurry it shows unfortunately stopped error
already i hv my ringtone ogg format eventhough it work for 3 to 4 days and its back the game of unknown ringtone and im not rooted though( gonna check in root as ur word)
i updated all gapps through play store and download other apps from google which is of lollipop compatible
sometimes i get google play service error after the update of 7.0.99..

not any more, because i already solved this problem :
1. do not save custom ringtones or the other tones in system/media/ringtones
2. save the custom ringtones folder in internal memory
3. you can use mp3 or ogg file for custom ringtone
i hope this will help you
same issue
Hi Guys,
Facing the same issue, not even resolved by the internal memory.
Whatever ringtone i select (from the default ones), it changes to unknown somehow. I don't know how and why.
There is also a strange thing, whenever the ringtone changes to unknown, the media from gallery also disappear (my photos and videos)
Please help.
This is driving me nuts.
Already tried:
1. placing in internal memory, restarting.
2.no custom mp3 tones, only default ogg
3. device is rooted.

are you already try this :
1. create a folder and name it with ringtones
2. place custom ringtones in this folder (.mp3 or .ogg)
3. place the folder in internal memory ( /0 or /1 ) not in / system/media/
4. change your default ringtones setting with your custom ringtones
5. reboot
it work for me..
note : folder name should be lower case and always name it with ringtones for ringtones or alarms for alarmtones , etc.
I also witnessed unknown ringtone in lollipop. But I actually liked it and I want to download it. Is there any way to download that unknown ringtone. It is one of the best ringtones I have come across. It rings like ting....ting.....ting...... Any suggestions on how to download that unknown system ringtone in android lollipop would be highly appreciated.
Hi all,
I use a couple of apps that I use custom notification sounds for. However, when I test or get a notification on said app, the Note 9 "seizes" the notification and plays the default notification. IOW, my custom setting has no affect. So I miss the event in question. Happens on multiple apps, so I know it's the phone.
This thing is amazing, once I got other things straightened out. It really is the Star Trek tricorder. ?
Any ideas? Help much appreciated!
Rich
Bumping this... anyone?
Try a reboot. Should work after the first reboot when you add custom sounds so I doubt it is a legit fix. Something else must be going on.

Been there done that... no change
Have you tried deleting your ringtones or sounds and pasting them back in folder? I'm just throwing mud at the wall here. Once I paste in the folder if it doesn't work right away a reboot let's the OS see it. Is it regular mp3 or ogg format also?

They're ogg format. Tried everything you said. I put custom notification sounds in 0/notifications and it works fine on every other device I own, reboot or not so I know it's in the phone or Oreo. The app (Space Launch Now) lets me set any notification sound I want and has a test button. When I do the test or get a notification the phone won't see the custom sound and plays the default notification anyway, after several reboots also.
This YouTube video is for Note 8 But its the same procure for the Note 9

I Am Having the Same Issue!
Hi Rich, I’ve had the exact same problem and have spent likely 10-20 hours trying to get this to work over months worth of time. I started with Android Pie (9) and Samsung UI 1.0, and had the issue. Recently, I hard-reset my phone, and installed Android 10.0 and UI 2.0, and nothing has been fixed. Also, I exchanged my phone when I first noticed the issue under the old operating system, and both phones are experiencing the same issue!
I select customs sounds for some apps (under Notifications), but they will not sound. Samsung/android takes over the notification and plays the default sound. I have a newer Note10+, on T-Mobile. In fact, yesterday I was working with a senior tech support person at T-Mobile, and we tried everything. He had a Note10+ there, tried changing to the custom sound, and his device also did not work, did not change it to the custom sound!
Just wondering if you ever got this to work, or have you found any workarounds? I would really, really appreciate your response!
Thanks, Dave
I had this exact same issue. I had to strip all of the tags from the mp3 files and put them in the 'notifications' or 'ringtones' folders. Once I did that, they appeared in the built-in media picker and also worked when using esExplorer to set the ringtone or notification.
