Hello all,
I am in the hospitality business and organise events for a number of blue chips – in short my company is the best in the business.
I get good rates on hotels, restaurants and have excellent connections for all things conference throughout Europe. So if Italy, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Uk or Ireland is a possible venue for the proposed event, I will be happy to get involved. I am a big fan of XDA.
Work is on going on our website just now so I am aware that a number of pages need updating... its in the hands of the HTML engineer... link in my signature if ya wanna have a look at what we do.
Best,
J
This would be pretty cool however i've never seen it work out in any other forum. I think the best thing to do would be to create a poll and see where most people are located. Say there's a bundle in California, then we could have one in LA or some place close to all Californians. Same thing for other states, countries, even cities, etc. We could then all share our experiences. As for me, i'm in Southern California, hence the reason i used it
More or less this event might take place in the US or somewhere in Europe...only few asian are here...
It is a nice idea. Make it a convention and invite some guest speakers to show off the future of mobile devices, have reps from HTC and others perhaps like Sony, Motorola, Nokia, Jabra, etc... showing off newest gadgets and gear - Workshop seminars and stuff like that. It could be a fun time to meet some of our members in person, talk, show off our devices and envy the other person's device and a good learning opportunity as well.

it won't be an eyeball anymore. It will look like a convention, a meeting, etc. And that will be boring because everyone should be formal. Just an "ORDINARY' but "GRANDacious" eyeball.. exclusively fro XDA-DEV members and if you like we can invite M$ as our guest speaker..LOL
Just a regular GRAND EYEBALL, just to meet each and everyone here at XDA-DEV. No paper works, no signing up just beer and phones and girls too...

Agree with the poll
Starting form there we can see how many would like to attend and where most people is located
But I must say that I agree with Daveshaw that the best place should be where all this started: Amsterdam!
So who is going to create the poll?
Yeah, Amsterdam would be great! And there will be raffle promos and HTC Devices giveaways courtesy of all xda-dev's moderators and admins... Come one let's make this happen.
Great poll!
LOL
Last option looks pretty cool!
hehehe if that last option wins...you got to pay my expenses going to your place!

just a cent from a newbee, i hope this great idea will happen sooner...
i agree however that safety, next of course to resources, is definitely the issue needed to be considered by anyone else. but who's safe nowadays? i dont think there's a better place than our own abode (just be sure our better half is out.. lol)..
a little clarification though about Philippines vis a vis Abu Sayaff (ASG). ASG concentrates mostly in northern part of Mindanao and now being relentlessly pursued. on the otherhand, there are great places in the Philippines particularly in Luzon & Visayas, although as i've said cant be considered safer that our homes. But on the brighter side, your 1$ to Php47.++ is quite noteworthy of consideration.... more than double the fun i guess
Btw, considering the "safety" issue as quoted, i voted for the last option (peace orb...)
cheers...

of people who dont speak english naturally, yet have the patience to learn such a difficult language. im always impressed and flattered by foreigners who speak incredible english with great grammar and sentence structure, especially when people like me who have trouble getting the rules straight when we already should know them. what makes learning english even more incredible is that there are over 1,000,000 words in the english language (most arent used anymore but they still can be). german comes in at a very distant second place with just over 300,000 words. and most english words have at least five other words that mean the exact same thing. random english words fact: there is no single word in english for "the back of the knee". anyways, its great to hear people speak english as their second language. so, kudos (slang for "congrats") to all you non english speaking people who have the incredible patience to learn something that does not come naturally to you. i do hope to learn german one day, because i have family in germany; and maybe even learn russian too. again, thanks to all aspiring linguists around the globe.
p.s. sorry if i use words that are big/fancy. i have a bad habit of doing that.
Thank you, I feel flattered as a foreigner and I think my decent english is due to watching a lot of television. Like talk shows and movies. Actually imo english is easier to learn than dutch or french etc. because most foreigners grow up with hearing english stuff around them. This almost never the case in England nor America. It's just the universal language, so there's less need to learn extra languages.

I´ve learned as a second language due to my mother is teacher/translator English/French.
Remember when I was a kid watching the movies in English, even if I did not understood a single word.
I consider I speak quite well (much better than my writing skills)

Dude, there are absolutely no errors in your English. God I wish I was that linguistically skilled. English is that common in other countries? I never would have guessed that. By the way, I absolutely love Europeans. I think they are the most pleasant people to be around (at least I think they are). I've only been to Europe once, but my dream is to visit every country in Europe. There is just something so wonderful about Europe. Anyways, you Europeans keep being awesome!!!
For example my mother moved to the US from the Czech Republic in the 80's, she grew up around many other languages and now speaks 9 (I cant name em all if i tried). And All 3 of her children (myself included) speak English to her, English for her is a second language but we speak to each other easily and she even thinks in multiple languages now. I have a lot of respect for her
It's not just in Europe and the US where English is the 'universal' language! Don't forget us down under (eg. Australia and New Zealand). I never realised how hard English would have been to learn until I did French in Year 12, especially given that English technically my equal first language. I speak Cantonese at home, for those who are interested. It's a real shame that, in Australia, another language isn't something that it required to graduate from high school (college in British and American English?) though. It's amazing how some people can speak so many languages. I wish I had that ability... And or patience.

Thank you. It's not so hard if you're using it for some 30+ years...
And you must remember that main language used in computers is english... so anyway I had to learn it better when I selected my profession... which originally was computer programming.
For me English in my 3. language. We have our own language in the Faroe Islands that is only spoken by some 60-70.000 people in the whole world. Our 2. language is Danish. But TV is the main reason that mostly everyone in the Faroe Islands speaks English quite good. My son is 3 years old now and has already started learning some English. All the cartoons he gets to watch are in English.

Hi,
For the moment there is no GPS software compatible with WP7.
We must wait more time for the companies launch new version that could work with WP7.
Thanks
Santos
im conused now, so , should i exchange the phone or should wait few months??
That's really up to you. If you don't like it, then the phone isn't for you, take it back. If you do like it and are willing to wait another couple of months for GPS software, then wait. For info, i've been using the built in Maps application to get to places and it's fine as a temporary workaround.
The biggest problem at the moment is that we are forced to use the Zune portal and this will only work in a very limited number of countries.
I cannot buy any application in the marketpalce just because I live in Portugal!!!
And this is the main reason why so many companies are not willing to spend money, time and resources in developing to such a limited audience.
IGO8 was the best GPS software I have ever seen for the Xperia X1 or for any Win mobile 6.5 phone, now we cannot use it because the developers, european, are not going to do something that most of their present costumers won't be able to buy and use in their WP 7 phones!
For the same reason we don't have Skype and so many others...
Microsoft forums are loaded with complaints about this, even the people in Canada can't use Zune portal, can you believe this?
This sucks...
Not sure if I'd call the countries that WP7 is available in a "limited audience," that isn't a fair judgment simply because your country isn't supported... Most major countries ARE supported...
Now, to answer your question, the OS is a couple months old, I'd expect to see a rush of GPS software being released soon, especially with Verizon and Sprint getting involved. I'd also expect a lot of these to utilize the API to Bing Maps... Saving space on the device and making a more direct inclusion to the OS.... That's just my theory though. Be patient...
Are you for real? This is the list of supported countries:
Australia (English)
Belgique (Français)
Belgium (Nederlands)
Canada (English)
Canada (Français)
Denmark (English)
Deutschland (Deutsch)
España (Español)
Estados Unidos (Español)
Finland (English)
France (Français)
Hong Kong (English)
India (English)
Ireland (English)
Italia (Italiano)
日本 (日本語)
México (Español)
Netherlands (Nederlands)
New Zealand (English)
Norway (English)
Österreich (Deutsch)
Schweiz (Deutsch)
Singapore (English)
Suisse (Français)
Sweden (English)
United Kingdom (English)
United States (English)
20 countries!!! 20!!!
Out of almost 200 existing now! That's 10%...
In the remaining 90% of the countries in the world we are not able to buy one single song, one single application...
Imagine yourself in this situation, what would you do?
I know people that returned their phone the moment they realized how crappy the situation is.
I won't do it but I really feal cheated!
I'm not saying its an enjoyable situation, but most of the major countries are supported... Major... Also, yes, 200 countries.. But there are also some countries that won't allow implementation... But no, I wouldn't want to be in the situation, and as a Microsoft supporter I would like to see the list grow...

Guys Question, maybe i too stupid for that, but how you can cancel/off everything , what you use in hd7 eg. video player , music other app?? Do I have to use arrow to make everything off? just arrow?
Yup, 10% of the worlds countries but I bet that's close to 50% of the worlds population.
Wouldn't call that a small market??
edit; According to wiki, that's 32% of the worlds population.
But the problem is Microsoft tend to distribute their phone with operator of the country without realising they dont fully support for the country like what apple do in the past. So people who buying the phone will stuck with the phone basic apps and we cant even sideload the app (although we can but ask microsoft yourself) and stuck with a contract you cant easily terminate it.
You can see that my country Malaysia had been announced as one of major countries that will sell HD7 under Maxis but do you see my country listed above? How do we suppose to buy app? by hacking the phone?
This is the link for proof
http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/windows-phone-7-handsets-the-tale-of-the-tape/
I think all the WinPhone 7 is good and better than apple with support of outlook and most importantly office sharepoint but the lacks of support is really frustrating. Im really regret that i not opt for HTC Desire HD.
P/S : Steve Balmer and Steve Jobs ( name also same ). Sorry for my English.
I am not sure what to learn. I started learning French a while back, it was quite hard. Haven't officially given up but I've not studied it for over a year now... I still can understand very simple texts, but can hardly speak it, and man the dictation is a pain in the a$$! I'm not sure to continue French or start a new one, like German, or Italian?
What do you think?
Any practical reason, or just to challenge yourself?
In my case, living in southern California, USA, Spanish is almost a must. No other language would be of any use....well, maybe some Asian languages, but Spanish sound easier

Well, you already have the advantage of being bilingual, so you could probably learn faster than someone like me. The little bit of Spanish I do know gets me by, but I'm just too embarrassed to speak it. I never feel like I'm saying it right.

What is tricky for me though was being raised on the east coast. The Spanish they teach there is the Puerto Rico dialect. When I moved to California, I realized how different it is. So the 4 years I spent learning Spanish is almost of no use now. Ahh well.

My ancestry is German. I've been interested in learning it.

French is a matter of getting the specifics down. It's kind of odd at first in that different endings on verbs are pronounced the same way, having to add consonance only if there's a vowel following certain words, using possessive adjectives that modify the thing they are possessing, not the owner. Just starting it but I love it.
I think Spanish will be my next language because I have a number of friends from South America. Going to learn German eventually because I must visit the home of the VW Audi Group someday.
I would ask to learn spanish.. or italian.. i love both of these languages..
Don't forget to hit 'THANKS' if I helped..

Also, it's a HUGE plus to have chinese as a second or third language when you want to find a highly paid tech job in Singapore or whatever.

If you want some challenge, try Portuguese. Verbs in English have 3 possible ways, and most of them applies to all the pronouns. In Portuguese, you have AT LEAST 9 different verbs times and one for each pronoun ( Me, you, he/she, we, them and he/she ( plural))

that's all the Secret Service cares about apparently
Heey guys, i know it not even touches the theme of the forum, but i want you to know where i live.
So, there is the worse government in my country for 5th year and then they published that, they want to introduce the "Internet tax" that means 150 HUF (hungarian forints) which is 0.63 USD or 0.49 EUR / GB after every started gigabyte. So that means, if i watch a movie or 4 youtube videos i have to pay In addition to the monthly fee, + 150 HUF / GB. As you can see on the following image, there is the taxes (below "ADÓ").
Mod edit: Inappropriate image removed.
What i want is to post it on your website or anything that you can make it heard by the whole internet community. It's really sad and may be that some country's government will hear all about this thing and they may help us out.
Sorry for the english skills of mine, but i really want to live in a country where is no taxes for breathing.
I hope lot of you will understand us and will help somehow.
Thank you!
i heard that from the news. i was furious and confused too... the government is so greedy...
hope that policy won't be implemented in your place ^^ n probably won't
